tip 1) stay native just for the first few locos, as that gives you a better idea of what you want to build as you can see it in the flesh metal. tip 2) try a diesel train as they are very square and makes building more esay. tip 3) build what you feal, as making a real train can be quite challanging for a begginer. tip 4) strenth before style. as a srong one is allways the best start. hope this helps, but i was only saying some of my personal views.(by all means try ignore me) cb

MightySlickPancake replied to Bonaparte's topic in LEGO Pirates

Hi I was reading around and i half way down this article i saw that for once lego may be at the forefront of train design, the article said that some model train companies have put money into making radio controled trains but are only in the prototype stage. so i think lego are first in mass producing the rc train idea and if i am correct i doubt they will build 9v tracks. cb

My first 8 wide train model
MightySlickPancake replied to MightySlickPancake's topic in LEGO Train Tech
hi Thanks Quarryman but i have been in conversation and he says it should be 63.5 studs alond which is a lot less than the 75 studs before. For the new finished train it is here version 2 and it has about 3mm of clearance under switch points. as this is my first 8 wide train i have no intention of keeping it as i will soon start work on my 8 wide thunderbird(is its nickmane)'57/3'. cb -
Hi I have been drawn in to the world of 8 wide models. I was looking around brickshelf and i saw the level of detail and size, after a few hours of careful planing i decided on a once British rail now EWS class 56. i struggled at first with the bogies and articulation on corners but after an hour or so i got the hang of it. the main body didn't take me as long as i thought and looked pretty good as my first try. My first poblem was when i started on curves an switch points. i new that ordinary curves would over hang a lot so i tried Mark Bellis way of 1 curve, 2 straights, 1 curve, 2 straights and so on with only one little grumble i have is it rocked the loco a lot. also a problem is switch points where the loco breaks this piece http://media.peeron.com/pics/inv/custpics/2866.jpg then derails it on to its side. Class 56 folder (when moderated) so if there is any advice you could give me on any thing-model or curves it would be much apreciated. cb

Hi i am working on a new 8 wide train but the bars on the sides and steps to the doors may be 1 or half a stud out of the train, is that ok? and thank u all for this great contest. cb

I love and adore lego trains but the one thing that i can not build in one million years is a 6 wheeled train bogie (as seen here: class 60 on the train i am curantly building) http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?i=4004337 i am trying to articulate the yellow sections of this. info you need to know; I am a pf builder which means the train is going to be longish and pf controled in my layout it looks like this: http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/crabboy329/1-8/delete.bmp which is suposed to be westbury cement works (blue track means off to fiddle yard) picture gallary so you can understand how it will all work(when moderated): http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=393490 are you felling confused or don't understand me then look at Mark Bellis made http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?i=1284113 that is what i would like to achive. cb

help - i need some help on train stuff
MightySlickPancake replied to MightySlickPancake's topic in LEGO Train Tech
hi all. Thanks Freddie as in th end i did use your first idea - i had tried it before asking but built it completly wrong! wih the second idea i think you ment this http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?i=2739776 if i am not mistaken which is from another class 60 model (some bits i may copy on mine ) My final idea is this brickshelf folder(when modarated):http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=393660 lld download( i have included this as the pictures are not very good):http://shop.lego.com/Product/Factory/Produ...cc-8715def95ce0 i really like these and if you want to make them i would be more than happy for you to. a word of warning - it can only just get around set 7996 and if flexi track makes a smaller circul than normal curves it canot manage aroung it. cb -
hi jimoakley666 and welcome to eurobricks. i completealy agree lego should make a british freight train as they did with santa-fe and bnsf so emerald night and a 66,55,57,47,37 (all british train fans will now what i mean) i only think its fair. and if the did i think they would make a 'deltic' (see link 55) as it is a famous american and english train mix. Brickimad the armoured train you see is a british class 20 but with a changed front. (not to mention it but i would love to see that i lego as well) cb

James May to build life size lego house!
MightySlickPancake replied to allanp's topic in General LEGO Discussion
i cant wait. but any news on the tv times and dates its on as that would help alot. cb -
I have been looking through eurobricks and i remembered the http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=28813 topic and remembered that it had a sound brick and that although it wasn't loud it could make an obvious tune. Then i got an idea where lego could put a train horn or 2tone diesels for steam trains a hiss of the boiler as it would sound very realistic. i dont belive that lego would as it is expensive but on some of my trains i would pay for that (http://shop.lego.com/ByTheme/Leaf.aspx?cn=87&d=328if you dont know how pricey they are.) -crabboy329-

yeh 'cause that would be great thanks.

this is great a fantastic ideai demand more (other stuff). but i do need to ask on the pf train motor the mole in the side middle ,can you put an axle in it or some thing of the like for a third wheel? cb

Rarely made locomotives and traincars.
MightySlickPancake replied to Madcat2000's topic in LEGO Train Tech
when you said cab forward steam locos i thought you ment http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SR_Leader_Class (it is a long article but a great one for steam buffs.) (on a very losely baised note (when you said things lego dont make) i think lego should make a class 66 or a emd series 66 to europeans - my reason they will take over the world- train world!) cb -
