    LEGO #21344 - Orient Express

I used the Crocodile base as the guide for my steam Moc and sourcing all the parts for the base becomes a pricey endeavor...in 16 stud increments.

    LEGO #21344 - Orient Express

This seems highly plausible. The cylinder size and height is a little off but everything else seems to match up pretty well. Ultimately, I suspect the guiding factor for this (in relation to piece count, and therefore, price) was the 16 stud rail: https://www.bricklink.com/v2/catalog/catalogitem.page?P=3228c#T=C Even a locomotive a few studs longer would require another set of rail elements, which then require additional support pieces, which leads to dead space...so then they add additional drive, leading, trailing wheels along with more pieces to fill out the longer locomotive...you can see where I'm going with this. Pretty soon we have a $400+ set. The final retail set was probably the sweet spot between substance (loco, tender, two coaches) and price.

All the snippy back and forth regarding the locomotive is getting tired.

    LEGO #21344 - Orient Express

I like what you did here...well done and agreed on all counts. Lowering the cylinders makes all the difference. Here's hoping the existing base can accommodate a lengthening of 3-4 studs.

    LEGO #21344 - Orient Express

I love the color, the coaches look great, but the locomotive is surprisingly simplified on first glance. At that price point it would be disappointing to feel the need to mod the locomotive but at the same time it's a good starting point to add some detail. Looking forward to better images.

Thanks...after I posted this I realized there was a thread. My apologies.

Rumblings on IG that the Orient Express is being delayed?...any truth to this?

Winter Village Sets - Rumours and Discussion

Technically speaking the new set-up is easier to integrate because you no longer need the IR receiver with Powered Up, but with that said you either need to use the app or purchase the bluetooth controller. Links below. Full disclosure: I don't have the new system yet so I can't vouch for it. The new parts get spotty reviews but I think that has more to do with the improvements they could make rather than the overall functionality. Maybe those that have it can chime in to give their opinions. To integrate Powered Up you just skip the steps that involve the IR receiver...it should result in a much cleaner end result. https://www.lego.com/cdn/product-assets/product.bi.core.pdf/6216992.pdf https://www.lego.com/en-us/product/hub-88009 https://www.lego.com/en-us/product/train-motor-88011 https://www.lego.com/en-us/product/remote-control-88010

Winter Village Sets - Rumours and Discussion

Two Pines Inn. It's not my favorite of the collection but I like it a lot. I'll probably rebuild the pond as something else but overall it's very nice. I like the tall, slender style of the conifers w/ white tops.

Winter Village Sets - Rumours and Discussion

To be clear, I'm mainly referring to 2022 and I'm cautiously optimistic for the 2023 Lodge but reserving judgement until we can see the full images. And I don't have a problem with the $100 price point, so long as they live up to expectations...for me, least year's didn't. But that's a me problem and I still may pick it up at the right price. We'll see.

Winter Village Sets - Rumours and Discussion

I don't necessarily disagree with this, as my village setup is completely exterior facing. But from a satisfaction standpoint, I will be highly disappointed if they scale back or abandon the details and fun of the interiors. I enjoy the builds and the features, even if they don't see the light of day during the holidays (aside from my son turning them around and playing). I have yet to buy the 2022 edition because the value and detail just doesn't seem to be there. I'm accustomed to and expect more advanced building techniques and when they aren't there I'm less interested. I guess part of my relative disinterest is my collection is outgrowing my mantle, which makes it easier to skip a year. And with all that said, if I find 2022 on sale I'll probably pick it up. I hope 2023 lives up to the years of 2021 and previous. Sure, I could do that. Would Lego consider retailing them at $79 opposed to $99?

Winter Village Sets - Rumours and Discussion

Feeling better about this after the most recent / better quality pic but I'm still interested to see the inside. I like the outhouse and the snowmobile side builds but the pond(? is that a kid with a hockey stick?) build seems completely unnecessary. I would rather see that piece count go in to the main structure itself. Might rebuild that into something more ski lodge oriented. Chimney could be a few bricks taller...easily remedied. Light brick? Looking forward to the official pics.

Winter Village Sets - Rumours and Discussion

Lack of interest, i dunno, but the 2022 official reveal was on Sept 22, VIP sale started Oct 3, regular retail Oct 7. 2021 was a bit earlier in Sept.

Winter Village Sets - Rumours and Discussion

Hard to tell from this very blurry pic but initially I'm disappointed because the proportions are vastly different than the rest of the buildings. I'll reserve final judgement until we get better pics but based on this I'm kinda worried. I hope I'm wrong.

Winter Village Sets - Rumours and Discussion

I hope this is a return to relative build complexity we'd become accustomed to with WV sets. Looking forward to seeing the lodge.
  16. General question: is it just me or has the hashtag search function on IG become absolutely worthless? It used to be great for finding the new sets and figures you guys are discussing but lately it's been so difficult. And no, I'd rather not follow a specific hashtag because it'll flood my feed with nonsense people spamming the tag,
  17. My Xwing was delivered today, shipped separately from the GWP items, which are set to arrive next week. That's the first time I've ever had that happen.
  18. Really underwhelming and I'm surprised the decision makers thought this was worthy of a set. I already have a Bo-Katan so, unless it pops up super-discounted, I'll probably pass. The arm-print and mando helmet "upgrades" aren't worth it for me. Looking forward to the summer sets.
  19. Thanks for posting this, @Brickroll All that stupid hype for that. Spare us with the cryptic tease crap in the future.
  20. For me, the only reason I'm buying a Microfighter is to get a minifig on the cheap and part out the rest. At $16, the chances of that are less likely, especially for Mando, of which I have three already (4 if you count the advent Mando). Absolutely no interest in the Snubfighter.
  21. Especially obnoxious to tease something then periodically pop into and view the thread to admire the wild speculation...
  22. I missed out on previous UCS X-wing models so I'll likely be in on this unless they completely botch it. Might be an unpopular opinion around here but I'm glad they're revisiting it.
  23. Everything looks good but I think I'll limit my collecting to the spaceman, orc, t-rex, carrot, and falconer. The rest are nice but they don't really grab me. The koala is cute...hope to see that in other sets.
