    LDD 4.3.6 bugs

Here is another possible bug: According to page 32 figure 44 subfigure 4 of the 2nd instruction of set 6243, the mermaid tail 51345 (a.k.a. 84676) should fit into a brick 1×2 (3004 or maybe even 3065). I guess it's safe to assume that every minifig lower part should fit into every full-height brick.
  2. I guess the part 6159 Window 4 x 4 x 3 Roof with Center Bar should be in LDD, too. Although this part was used in only 7 sets from 1994 to 2001, it matches the similar 6160 / 57894 and is a perfect enhancement for 4447 and 60806.

Well, you didn't get my point: Besides the question whether it is legal or not to attach a stud, you should definitely be able to put a [EDIT] light [/EDIT] sword blade through a fence, even a small 3633 one: There is plenty of space, but the collision boxes of those fences are plain wrong here, so that you currently can't do that in LDD, and that's the actual bug. [EDIT] See page 16 figure 10 of set 2508's instruction to get an idea what I mean.[/EDIT] [EDIT] If you have a look at page 22 of set 5955's instruction, you'll see that even this technique was used in an official set, albeit in the alternative model. [/EDIT]

    LDD 4.3.6 bugs

Reading the news about the new 10241 Mærsk Line Triple-E I couldn't help but wonder how to do this in LDD. First of all, I was a bit shocked that in 2013 there are still new sets with "Sticker over Assembly": I hated this technique back in 1983 at the 6683 and I still hate it 30 years later. Anyways, since LDD can't handle stickers at all, this is not an issue to post here. But I encounterd another issue. Have a look at this image: It is impossible in LDD to attach a stud at the lamellas of a fence (3185, but also 3186 and 3633). Moreover, those pieces are not even permeable: When twiddling with those parts, I noticed you can't even put a much smaller piece (like a 30374 light sword blade or a 87994 shaft) through the holes, even if you don't touch any lamella at all. Thus scaffolding the 6141 round plate becomes even more messy. So I guess the collision boxes of those fences should get some refurbishment, especially since other fences like 2583, 6079, 30110, 15332, 30055, 30056 and 30077 are not affected. Even if it remains illegal to attach a stud at a fence in the depicted way, it should be possible in LDD to put smaller parts through the holes.
  5. The missing 30277 Vehicle, Base 2 x 8 x 1 1/3 might be simulated by 1×3001, 2×3660 and 2×4600. See this post for an example (incl. LXF file).
  6. 6437 - Beach Buggy - Theme: Town: Coast Guard (LXFML-File, LXF-File) LDD 4.3.6, Brick version: 1182 (click for larger image) [Brickset] [Bricklink] [Peeron] [LEGO.com] Errors: 30277 replaced by 1×3001, 2×3660 and 2×4600. Missing stickers / prints / minifig decorations (replaced with most appropriate surrogates where applicable). Remarks: The flag 30322 might as well be placed on the left instead.
  7. I always wanted to have this set... Nah, just kidding. Well, not really. I actually want to have this set. But not as a reward for such a simple task. Anyways, have you ever considered to make your own electric power, so that you become independent from the power supplier and its blackouts? (and maybe dope your hamster...)Maybe you want to head over to this thread to request an auto-save feature for the next version of LDD to avoid data loss?
  8. As LXF files are simple ZIP files, you may use a freeware like ZIP-Repair from DiskInternals to obtain its content, namely the IMAGE100.LXFML file. This is a plain text file containing some sort of XML which LDD uses to display your model. You'll get something like the code hidden in the spoiler below. Copy this code to Notepad (or the text editor of your choice), save it to a text file (the name does not matter, but the extension must be ".LXFML") and import it in LDD. Voila. (Obviously brickshelf.com is down at the moment, so I can't upload that file for you.)
  9. Maybe Calabar should index this set as a star wars theme: To build it you obviously need a lot of force... Unfortunately I do not have the real set, but I guess it's really 4513987: In real life it'll fit, if you put enough . The same applies to the roof shells: LDD simply can't twist and bend axles and large plates as real life can. Maybe the designers assumed that if you have built this set for real, it's unlikely you are ever disassembling it, so malformed parts and cold flow wouldn't be much of a problem. This segment isn't held by much more than those two axles and one single connector peg, so it has to be a stable connection. Maybe too stable for LDD. As vean picks all the easy sets, I had to choose something challenging. No, seriously, this set clearly shows the limits of LDD concerning tight fitting of parts and 3D-turning and -aligning beyond the xyz-axes. Instructions 1 & 2 are rather straightforward. But as soon as you reach the roof shells, you'll probably regret having started this set in LDD. Anyway, I would greatly appreciate if someone does some hi-res POV-Ray renderings of this set. None of my machines is powerful enough to attain acceptable results in a reasonable period of rendering time.
  10. This set is dedicated to the lovely people ɹǝpun uʍop. 10234 - Sydney Opera House - Theme: Sculptures (LXFML-File, LXF-File) LDD 4.3.6, Brick version: 1182 (click for larger image) [Brickset] [Bricklink] [Peeron] [LEGO.com] Errors: Missing 3857 (round corners) replaced by 2748 (sharp corners). 2× 74340 are preassembled in LDD, total part count thus is 2987 instead of 2989. Bricks and plates are not as bendable in LDD as they are in real life, so the roofs don't fit as smoothly as they should. Maybe some connections are simply illegal, from a strict point of view. Anyway, one segment can't get fully attached and thus one black 2780 can't be put in place. Two bright red 32062s can't be put in place, as they won't fit into dark stone grey 3022s' antistuds (instruction 1 figures 31-34 & 37). Two white 3069s can't be put in place, as they would each collide with a sand yellow 6587's knob (instruction 4 figures 6-7). Remarks: The Bricklink inventory erroneously lists white 3001s, where actually 3002s are meant.

    LDD 4.3.6 bugs

Oh, good to know: I always assumed pneumatic tubes and technic flex cables to be synonyms. *embarrassed* I definitely have to become way more nit-picky before getting my tag... [Edit]Disregard that.[/Edit] As long as there is no real physics engine in LDD, adding pneumatic tubes is sort of futile isn't it, as they wouldn't work as intended anyway.
  13. Please have a look at the section rules: So imho your topics 1-4 surely won't be suitable. And topics 5 and 7 are most likely already covered by the LDD Manager (unless you have something in mind, LDD Manager can't do).

    LDD 4.3.6 bugs

Sir, yes Sir! *salute* I doubt it will fit that smoothly in real life though: There is no real "snapping" connection, but a rather tight one, similar to the pneumatic hoses. In LDD you can't connect a pneumatic hose (or in LDD "Outer Cable" 58856, 55668, 76324, 76302, 76255, 76270, 61356, 76275, 76257, 55676, 62530, 76254, 76277 and 57274) to a connector peg like 4697 or 99021, too, since LDD can't handle elastic materials properly. The flexible elements can be bent, but not squeezed or get their shape somewhat shifted. I suppose the hole in 4288 is bigger in LDD than it is in real life, although I must admit that I haven't seen a real 4288 tire for more than 20 years. But as far as I can remember, you had to push 6141 out of 4288 by using a cross axle and a lot of force, since it fits that tightly. And thus 6590 must be of similar difficulty.

    LDD 4.3.6 bugs

4288 is quite a versatile tire: As a balloon tire, 4288 is made of vulcanised rubber gum and thus is of a rather flexible consistency, far more than usual bricks (think of liquorice). However, 6141 should fit only with its stud in first: Have a look at the tire down left: if an axle like 3749 is put in the tire from below, there remains a small offset or gap where the stud of 6141 (and maybe 85861) smootly fits in. I guess regular round bricks with an height of 1 like 3062 won't fit that good, as the bottom lip of 6141 / 85861 sort of snaps in (remember, 4288 is flexible). In real life it is more obvious than in LDD. Apart from this set 6507 from 1989 and 6389 from 1991, the tire 4288 is often attached the other way round: The crossed hole then points away from the vehicle: In earlier sets (like 1558 from 1986, but also 6812 from 1991), the tire is thereto held by 122c01 or 122c02, but later 4624 (e.g. set 6987 from 1988 or set 6833 from 1990) got more common. LDD does not support 4624 attached to 4288, but only 3749 and other axle-based connections like the ones used in e.g. set 6847 from 1985, set 8444 from 1999 or set 1290 from 2000; there, however, with the crossed hole pointing towards the vehicle, but without 6141 used as a rim. The first set using 4288 (6880 from 1982) and also the last set where 4288 was used (8435 from 2004) even use cross axles in conjuntion with 3713. LDD does not support 3713 being put inside 4288, too: This build would, however, most likely be illegal nowadays, since it causes permanent stress to 4288. In real life, however, 4288 is flexible enough to cope well with it. So to answer your initial question: 6141 may in real life be forced to fit the other way, too, but as this would put way more stress on 4288, I wouldn't recommend this connection to be supported in LDD. But LDD should support 4624 (and maybe even 3713) to be put into 4288, as this is needed for quite a bunch of official sets.
  16. Nice . But it's a pity, that you can't easily make such videos with LDD out of the box .
  17. 6520 - Mobile Outpost - Theme: Town: Arctic (LXFML-File, LXF-File) LDD 4.3.6, Brick version: 1182 (click for larger image) [Brickset] [Bricklink] [Peeron] [LEGO.com] Errors: x77 omitted: No acceptable surrogate in LDD. 43903 has inappropriate shape in LDD and does neither flex nor attach to 30285. 30104 does not flex in LDD, replaced by its flexing counterpart 60169. 30287 has collision error: 4623's hook can't be put through face hole. Missing stickers / prints / minifig decorations (replaced with most appropriate surrogates where applicable). [EDIT] Whoops, I was a bit too late. But in spite of vean, I got the colors right : His/her set uses 311 [EDIT: got corrected], this one uses 49 for "Trans-Neon Green".

In LDD 43903 has a totally unusable shape: It either should be flexible or similar to 71372. Additionally, it should attach to 30285, 51377 (not yet in LDD), 55982 and 55981.

3020 does not fit under 87613 (as needed for set 8638): If you have a look at the instruction, page 48/49, figures 25 and 26, a complete 3020 should fit lengthwise under 87613. LDD however does not allow those sort of contact. Illegal build from TLG or wrong collision box in LDD? By the way: Parts 87613 & 93595 should be multicolored, but LDD does not support it, too.

  25. Nope, the first one is not (yet) in LDD: This part was discontinued 2003, whereas the latter is still in use. You may, however, file a request in this thread to get it added with a future update.
