    TUTORIAL Custom power pickups

What a blast from the past, I forgot about this helpful post from 11 years ago this month, I've been working on new 9v power system as my own personal project, working on grabbing the right size of wheels and searching for the "pizza cutter" variety originally listed, I think I've found them but amazon and ebay have ruined my trust of smaller websites that sell stuff. Right now the only think I can make a FUNCTIONAL copy of is 9V track. Copper foil tape 1/4in is the perfect size to tape to regular PF track to tape to the rails and give power without issue.

    A Layout in Three Eras - 4.5v, 9v and 12v - Photo update!

This an an absolutely amazing layout and I am blown away by the time and attention to detail you've put into this set! So great seeing it at every show ya bring it to! Seeing it in person is a treat as always with yesterday show :) - Bear/Tyler Ya should share the photos of it from the event! Actually who was taking photos for the LUG? Haha

    [MOC] Atomic Express

First off let me say... I know its a bit of a repost but at long last the WHOLE THING is finished and if you know me I never finish anything! Anyways.... I'd like to introduce you to the Atomic Express! An atomic steam turbine power locomotive with classic streamlined stylings with a heavy influence of vintage Popular Science and Popular Mechanics vehicles and machines! Instead of your usually low tech boiler this beauty is packing dual atomic high pressure boilers suspended between the water condenser and the cabin! The train is moved by a single direct drive steam turbine with dual counterweights instead of blind drivers! Continuing with the sleek curves and designs of the locomotive and tender isn't filled with any sort of coal or fuel but a special mix of water and coolant to keep the reactors running! Have you noticed the bright red components of the locomotive yet? The color is used to show off moving parts or something a little more reactive! A big 'ol warning to watch out! As we move on the Atomic Express has its own special fleet of sleek passenger coaches! With two boarding coaches and a blind middle coach! All with long clear bar windows to see the countryside flying by on your way to adventure on the Atomic Express! Here's a few more photos just for fun! She is a one big and heavy locomotives she is running pretty well now too! Got a few videos for ya'll of her making a pass or two on the tracks. It really had been a long time in the making... At least a few years at this point... From idea to LDD models to digital renders to brick form! And I gotta say I am really happy how it has all turned out! The engine looks fantastic in my own opinion and the coaches work really well with it even with all the troubles I had designing them. Let me just tell you that it is a royal PITA to build anything in green. A ton of parts you think would exist just don't and what little does exist is really expensive! I was going to build the windows on the coaches with the 2x1x2 panel windows in green but it was just way too much! I almost swapped out the windows on the cab to black and added a black stripe to cut the cost down. But I looked at it again to keep the color by using the large 1x2x5 clear bricks. So much cheaper and I think it keeps the style really well for the steamlined aesthetic. I even fixed a lot of the running issues with the help of everyone here over the years, from the front truck with a design for a super flat one for my pneumatic train (RIP) to replacing the rear trucks ball joint with more stable peg connection! Thank you everyone who helped me and for putting up with my dumb questions and rambling! Now I hope ya'll enjoyed I hope to make a lot more cool things in the future now that I have my own dedicated space for building!
  4. Hey y'all! I'm back with more nonsense, so here are modular mini city blocks! A whole city block in 1 MILS plate! I prefer the Creator 3-in-1's small modular buildings to the full sized modular buildings... and turns out since creator buildings are about 8 deep and about a 4 wide side walk you can fit two rows of buildings onto 1 32x32 MILS plate! By using the 8x16 plates you can make thin 1 way or alley way streets! And it's very easy to add a little over hang into the base for extra depth and details and such. You do need to make a new type of MILS road plate to connect to these 8 wide roads. Alright here's the rest! A mod of the 31131: Downtown Noodle Shop A MOC inspired by 7641: City Corner A news station! \] A MOC based on a local Pharmacy and Deli that has been around for over 75 years. Stacking market stalls. Some sort of hotel? I'm still working this one out, working with some big bricks and just makes it a little dark. Here is a, moc? Mod? A rip from a video game that isnt Lego? No one I know ever played Blockland or knows any deep cut Blockland lore so I ripped the gas station from the best premade map in the game Everyone needs to use more DUPLO in builds, there are so many cool structural parts that fit into most MOCs! Thank you for getting to the end of pink sprinkle city!
  5. I picked up a complete in box copy of the best hospital set Lego has made over the summer! I've been working on MILS-ing every one of my MOCS and I really wanted this in my city... so I made it a complete building! Something weird is going on inside though... Set 6380-1 Emergency Treatment Center!

[MOC] "Totally not a Christmas" Train

Working on that as we speak! I got a hold of a ton of 8x16 road plates and have been building whole city blocks in the space of a single MILS plate, and its all modular!.
  7. Hey Y'all! It's me again! I don't really have much to say about it but here is my "totally not a Christmas" train! It's cute! It's very small! It's just Christmasy enough to be in season but not too Christmasy to look out of place any other time of year. I did take some inspiration from Jason Steinhurst and their Vulcan Iron Works 0-4-0T Whole Train. Locomotive and tender. Gondola Passenger Car Caboose

    [MOC] Atomic Express

I'm am doing well! Since I joined RVALug I get a lot of my train fix there and don't visit the forum as much, and honestly I don't have a lot of completed mocs to share! I have been working on a Christmas train thats almost ready to share, but this forum doesn't need any more of my half baked projects and ideas hahah.

    [MOC] Atomic Express

Just a small update! Changed out some of the bogies with Jacob's Bogies to try and fix the drag issues I have... they didn't! I'm about ready to rebuild the 4-6-2 as a 0-4-4-0 just to stop the derailing, got through 2 conventions before I had these constant issues! Anyways back into hiding I go.

What happened to Big Ben Bricks?

Not to cause any undue fear of BBB being down, but I've been having this thought lately about what we are going to do if BBB goes down, are their any open source archives of the medium and XL and XXL drivers? I know the folks running the L Gauge Wiki have been meticulous about documenting lego trains as a full hobby gauge. Been talking to my buddies has is in the business industrial additive manufacturing and industrial injection molding, and they really think they could help make own own injection molds for wheels, rails, ect. Not for business just out of pure love of the hobby and keeping things around. The average lego wheel is max 50mm by 50mm on the large end and a bench top injection mold machine would be perfect for single batches of new wheels. Just some ramblings from a wall flower here now back to being quiet hahah.

    [WIP] Gondol-Rail

Trying to come up with another way to move coaster trains without the reliable but large standard. NOW MEET GONDOL-RAIL! The best of both Gondola Lifts and Light Rail! Rope driven trains with one motor in the station! Works much like a gondola lift, cars attached to a loop of string with one big motor moving all of them. Not sure how much further I will go with this concept, but I love weird forms of movement. Biggest flaw, very hard to tension, one wrong move and you are knocking down half your towers. And find some way to stick a motor in that tensioner... maybe with one of those technic actuators

V-4 Complete assembly for motor and tensioner Trying to have it pull from the middle, but the string needs to pull down far enough to clear the rubber tire.

    LEGO Trains 2022

So is this our first train of 2022? Little monorail from 80036 City of Lanterns Not really a full scale train but it's got more track and cars then other mini train sets they release. Even looks like its set up to be expanded with modular track sections

    [LEGO IDEAS] Casey Jr.

AHHHHHH it's so adorable! do you have any photos of it running?
  15. I looked around but I can't find anything of them anymore if anyone has heard anything from them could you let me now... It's like they have just disapeared...

    Hogwarts train - tracks?

The set works really well on track. If you buy multiple copies of the set the stations combine really well! I've got 3 copies on myself and the station looks great with them all combined together.
  17. Interesting. I might need to grab some of that then... I never considered that I might be able to motorized my little train. Hard to make small american steamers look conniving.
  18. I gotta say I love the little Shay style locomotives. I'm kinda tempted to grab the instructions because they would go really well with this train I designed a while ago. https://i.imgur.com/hnz9Hp8.jpg Also. It's really hard to tell on the website but what is on the end of the micromotor? Is it a generic gear or something that can hold a lego axle. Without the head on photo it's hard to tell.
  19. Thank you. I was looking at that was wondering how it might work for narrow gauge lego trains. Because we all know it's a royal PITA to runs trains with the PF system. Sorry about that I wasnt sure if that was the generic topic about narrow gauge.

    Narrow gauge goodnes

Has anyone tried using the studly micromotor to power any narrowgauge trains? I know it's an off brand product but it seems like a good way to power these trains since they are all such a space crunch.

    LEGO Trains 2021

I hope what ever shows up is better than the mess than the Croc. I mean it looks pretty but it the running problems and the large gap be much to be desired. I might just be jaded by the size and grandeur of the Apollo rocket but it just seemed overpriced for the small size. 100$ without track... without power.... Just disappointing.
  22. First off.... how have you not seen any of the movies until now? And holy cow that train looks amazing! All the detailed greebling and the use of the chima head!

    [MOC] Atomic Express

Cause I'm a cheapskate lol. At the time using the auto buy on bricklink the windows I wanted to use were something like 30-50 cents a peice. I didnt want to spent 50 bucks just on windows so took the 1x2x5 clear bricks that I got from a PAB wall and went from there! BL can have some wack prices still though. I spent like 8$ on about 30 green corner bricks. It was going to cost more just to order them from anywhere else.

    [MOC] Atomic Streamliner

After years and years in the making and on the back burner I finally had the motivation to fix some of the issues with non existent and expensive parts and PART IT OUT! Here I present the newly completed ESCO Atomic Streamliner! A sleek streamlined locomotive inspired by the classic covers of vintage Science Illustrated magazine covers! This Fission reactor fed steam turbine locomotive will get you where you need to go in first class comfort! With a striking green and yellow color scheme with bright splashed of red to show of some of the more radioactive parts of this train! I'm so happy to have this done after so many years, it's the first train MOC I have completed since moving out and having every last one of my MOC and other trains smashed by my parent while moving away. It's been a long process getting my things into my new place and own apartment! Just getting around to bringing most of my bricks over but I have to resort and organize my lifetime of collecting bricks... God help me. About 5 medium moving boxes of loose unsorted legos. I'm going to be crazy by the time it's sorted. Anyways it runs fairly well but it does have a few hiccups. The trailing truck likes to kick up over the rails sometimes and I need to have it pressed against the rails somehow instead of being loose on a single ball joint. It's a very very heavy train and the 9v motor has a hard time trying to keep up with the curves of the track and it has an ever worse time hauling two of the passenger wagons from the latest passenger train set. It's really cocerning since I do have some plans to make a set of matching passenger wagons for it so it's convention ready. I'm pretty sure I bought just about every green 1x3 curved slope on the market at the time and the rest of it isnt too pricey either a lot of large and very common parts making a nice sleek wagon. This has been a project that has been years and years in the making and I hope you enjoyed!
