Should LEGO cut ties with Shell?
AyliffeMakit replied to legoman19892's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I rather expected it because they did use "Everything is Awesome!" without permission and pictured the main characters in the lego movie drowning in oil, but I do think it's funny that they spent so much time, effort and money creating this inaccurate ad for it to be just taken down a couple of days.- 214 replies

The reaction they want from the ad: "Legos are destroying kids with Shell! I must stop existing and sign this form! The reaction they'll probably get: "Where can I download that version of Everything is Awesome?" If it stays on Youtube then it's probably fine, but if it ever appears on the telly as an advert, then TLG may have the right to take legal action for using it's logo and products without permission. Also Warner Bros may jump onto the legal action bandwagon when they find out that they've also used the song "Everything is Awesome" and the minifigures of Emmet and Wyldstyle, which are licensed to them. So Greenpeace could end up a whole lot more trouble if it goes on the telly.- 214 replies

I don't have any of the games, but I may go and watch all of the films again and possibly draw a short comic strip thing about it.

Brickset just posted a comparison picture with Peter Reid's original Exo Suit and the final model: The new version is huuuuge!
-
Yeah, I guessed from the test card and some of the comments that Mark Stafford posted on Peter Reid's teaser photos. Anyway, I really love this set to bits, and it's probably going to be a day one purchase for me. I do think that the hands could used this piece in grey instead, but overall I'm impressed with this redesign, The picture on the box does look a bit awkward though for some reason, I think it could be how the legs are positioned, but that could just be me. As for the minifigs, I think the green is a good choice and will be welcome in my collection alongside my other classic spacemen. I still want a purple spaceman though EDIT: I forgot to mention that I got the free classic spaceman minfig yesterday and I'll be posting a review later today.

There's a new teaser photo on Peter Reid's Photostream. It's pretty much the same as yesterday's photo, but the salvage team is getting closer to the door. I would post it here, but then Flickr crashed. EDIT: Flickr's stopped being fussy now, here's the picture: So close yet so far....

It can't be red, if it was then the shade of grey used for the body would be the same as the one used for the CS logo on the torso, which it isn't. It's a test card, and it must have some significance as a usual test card looks like this: Either way, I still think they're going to be green.
-
I've just worked out a very small theory about the minifig included and the colour it is. Basically, at the start of the video teaser there is a test card showing 6 colours. These colours are White, red, yellow, black, blue, and green. You're probably thinking "But they're just colours on a test card Ayliffe, they're not important." But they really are important. You see, all of the colours on here represent all the different coloured classic spacemen that TLG have released in the 70's and 80's. All except GREEN. Furthermore, when these colours become different shades of grey, the shade of gray that green becomes matches exactly the shade of grey on the spacemen. So yeah, the minifigs included with the set are pretty much guaranteed to be Green.

I just found this very interesting post by the creator of the teaser, OldScratch, on Bricks In Motion: Does this mean that another trailer will be arriving today?

Should LEGO cut ties with Shell?

I can see the message Greenpeace want to get across, but some of the things they have said are, well, just plain inaccurate really. For example: Erm, has anyone told Greenpeace that the only sets Lego have done with Shell are those pull-back ferraris, and they mainly use their own brand OCTAN when showing oil companies (and Octan have now transferred to using green energy anyway). Also, did anyone tell them about the upcoming Arctic City sets, which put across exactly the same message as Greenpeace does? And they used an image of an 80's set, before any of this trouble arose! Overall, I think that the message they are trying to get across to people is acceptable (save the arctic), but all they've done is try to hit out at any company that has even the smallest link to Shell, and didn't do their research before setting up a full campaign and bombarding them with thousands of e-mails. Either way, neither Shell or TLG are going to come out of this situation unharmed.- 214 replies

Who says that the Exo Suit won't sell out in only a few days?
-
It could be because instead of having a standard yellow head, the set may include a fleshie minifig as the original proposal had one and this set is designed to, as Caperberry said on his New Elementary blog post about the subject, the set also had to fit in with the storyline that Peter had already set out in his book "Lego Space: Building the Future", which featured minifigures in flesh tones rather than in yellow. So basically, this is probably a clever move by TLG to calm down the AFOLs out there who wanted an ordinary classic space minifig within the set. That's what I thought. Anyway, we'll find out tomorrow....

Basically, this image appeared on Peter Reid's photostream: Could this be the hint we're waiting for....? Either way, it looks like we'll find out in 24 hours....

Great work! There are two films just crying out for this treatment: Peter Pan (not the Disney classic, the weird 2003 version where Neverland is somehow IN SPACE) and the strange live-action Super Mario Bros Movie from 1993. -

AyliffeMakit replied to gogglev's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Here's a picture of the movie version (yes, this is really the best image I could find of the movie version) It's probably around twice the height of the official set version, so if anyone is thinking of building the version from the film, good luck with that EDIT: You know what I just said about that being the best image I could find? Well I just found a better image -

That is a truly beautiful set. Is the Legoland Billund sign printed and exclusive to this set?
-
Nope, it's been delayed until the 19th. However, Brickset has revealed the cover of the first issue and Brick Fanatics has revealed a page from inside the actual magazine. Both Brickset and Brick Fanatics also have the official press release, which is this:
