Thank you, C3POwen. Doing the Find/Replace method worked like a charm. -
[Guide] Rendering LDraw models using POV-Ray
Walter Kovacs replied to C3POwen's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
I was attempting to render a model today and ran into this error: ...line 987: Parse Error: Expected 'undeclared identifier', float function 'float constant' found instead Render failed Here is the offending line (and those after it, if it matters): #declare 48/LDX_48_slash_t08o5000_dot_dat_in_part = torus // Torus 0.125 { 1,0.5 clipped_by { plane { <0,0,-1>,0 } plane { <-0.70710678118654746,0,0.70710678118654757>,0 } difference { cylinder { <0,0,0>,<0,1,0>,2 } cylinder { <0,0,0>,<0,1,0>,1 } } } } I'm fairly certain that the part in question is this one. Does anyone know of a workaround or fix for this error? I seem to recall getting it before and finding one, but I honestly don't remember how. -

Party Lines Mafia - C&D: Inauguration
Walter Kovacs replied to Tamamono's topic in LEGO Mafia and Role-Play Games
:roflmao: Oh wait, I'm in the same boat. At least we'll have some new company on the deadboard. Happy New Year, everyone. -
I picked up 75084 - Wookie Gunship at a local Target over the weekend. It's an OK model, the shape looks very clean and smooth. The wookie minifigs look much better in person than they did in the photos. I didn't like them when the photos first appeared, but the printing really blends in well. My only complaint is that it just feels...small. It might be that I assembled it shortly after finishing the 10188 I got for Christmas.
-
I have no problems with the size of the set; it is pretty close to the scale it should be. My big issue is that the lower section is far too round. The AAT has a very slight curve, not a hemispherical one like used in this set. The lower section should in reality be only 3, maybe 4 plates tall, yet here it's a whopping 8 plates tall. This is what kills the set for me. It will be one of the last 2015 sets I pick up.

Party Lines Mafia - C&D: Inauguration
Walter Kovacs replied to Tamamono's topic in LEGO Mafia and Role-Play Games
Thank you very much for allowing me to play, Tammo. It was fun while it lasted, though unfortunately far too short. Ah well, such is Mafia. Let's pull it together, Loyals. -
When giving advice to aspiring writer's, most authors tell them to "Write about what you know." So in that vein, I will use set 8014 - Clone Walker Battle Pack as my first review. I own 15 copies of this set. To say I am familiar with it would be a gross understatement. I could assemble the walker in my sleep, if ever that was necessary. I've even assembled the set while traveling at 65 mph (and yes, I was driving. Not sure if that's a good thing or not.) Set #: 8014 Name: Clone Walker Battle Pack Theme: LEGO System / Star Wars / Clone Wars Year: 2009 Pieces: 72 Minifigs: 4 Price: USD 10.99, CDN 13.99, EUR 14.99, GBP 9.79 Links: Bricklink, Peeron, Brickset PACKAGING The Box: There's nothing special about the box front. Standard Clone Wars style white border, the "Build Your Army" logo in the bottom left. The art does show the walker in action, firing those flick fire missiles. That's probably the farthest the missiles will ever fly. And the Back: The back of the box shows what everyone is likely after in this set: The Minifigs! Four nice phase I clones, including a Gunner. In a pinch, the Gunners make nice substitutes for Pilot Clones. It also shows one regular clone in the full commander gear. Take a good look, it'll be the last Commander you see in this review. Along the bottom is a picture of the two Battle Packs for this year. I find it interesting that you get a picture of the set you have in your hands on the back, but this is intended as an impulse set of sorts, so I guess that's OK. I apologize for the crumpled look of the box. I had taken some pictures of a brand new, unopened box, but the photos came out blurry. I had to dig it back out of the trash . INSTRUCTIONS Front: Back: Parts List: Random Instruction Page: The instructions are very clear. No issues trying to discern Dark Gray from Light Gray or Black. That might be because of the limited piece count, though. The back has a part list, as is standard in almost all sets nowadays. The opposite page has a nice scene with some of the 2009 Spring line in action. THE BUILD The Contents: There are three bags that come with this set. The largest contains most of the big pieces. The medium sized one has the small parts. The minifigs are spread out between these two bags. The third bags contains the Clone Gear, in a nice Black color. As I said before, I own 15 copies of this set, and I have yet to open one of the Clone Gear bags. So don't expect any photos of the gear. I'm not going to do it, no matter how you whine and plead The DSS: Can it really be dreaded? There are only two stickers. They aren't THAT hard to get aligned correctly, but it does ake a little patience to get them on straight. MINIFIGS What Everyone Wants: There they are. Three bright, shiney Clone Troopers and one Clone Gunner, just begging to be deployed into an RGS or AT-TE. Because this set is relatively inexpensive, they do make excellent filler for your phase I vehicles. There are only three Blaster Pistols, so unless you open the Clone Gear bag, one of the clones will be going into a gunfight without a gun. The Walker's pilot doesn't need a gun, right? CLONE WALKER The Walker - Front View: Side View Back View The Walker in this set is almost an afterthought. As far as Battle Packs go, it isn't a bad vehicle. The legs could use a little more detail, but it really does fit nicely into the Clone Wars theme. The flick fire missiles feel like they belong here, as opposed to just being tacked on. The cannon on the front is simple, but effective. I find the parts selection to be rather nice. I like using wedge plates in my MOCs, and this set comes with two pair. It has two nice 1 x 4 Bricks with studs on the side for SNOT techniques, which is always useful. And the finished walker has two cheese slopes in Light Gray. I no longer need to substitute Dark Gray. Yeah! The legs do move, which is a plus. Unfortunately, any position other than both feet flat on the floor is unstable, which limits the poseability. The Walker, with Friends: Here is the Walker with a pilot and a passenger. I'm not sure why LEGO keeps giving us vehicles with two seats. A single seat walker with three ground troops would have worked well. It probably has to do with circumventing the No Action Figure clause in their contract. At any rate, I am not really thrilled with the two seat aspect of this set. But that is what MODs are for (more on that later). DIE, Clankers!: When the droids see this, it usually is the last thing they see. Extra Parts: Here are the extra pieces that come with this set. Did I mention that I love the Light Gray cheese slopes. HUH Now, for the Huh Moment: As I mentioned, I have bought a lot of these battle packs, mostly for the clones. Imagine my surprise when I realized, just last week, that the clones have two DIFFERENT face prints. They look like mirror images of each other, but they are clearly different. I hadn't heard anyone mention this before, so I thought I'd throw it out there. Of course, this revelation caused me to channel my inner DeNiro. Are you looking at me? Are you looking at ME!? You must be looking at me! I'm the only one here! Thank you, thank you. My acting skills are unparalleled. Playability: 7/10 - The flick fire missiles don't fire well, at least the legs move. Minifigs: 10/10 - Four Clones. 'Nough said. Design: 6/10 - The Walker is solid, if not very well detailed. Price: 10/10 - The Price-to-Parts might be off a little (as it is on all BPs). But four clones for $11 ain't bad at all. OVERALL: 33/40 - If your looking for cheap clones, look no further. If you're looking for a great Clone Wars era vehicle, then this set isn't for you. But I'm guessing you knew that already. Here is a link to the Brickshelf Gallery (when public). MY MOD As I have mentioned several time before, I have many copies of this set. 15 copies is enough to pack both versions of the RGS, both AT-TEs, the new AT-OT (all un-MODDed) and a MODDed Twilight full of clones, and still have enough left over to have one clone for each of the 15 Walkers. But the Walker has two seats. What to do? MOD it, of course: This MOD is cheap (~$0.40 on Bricklink) and can be done with minimal changes to the original Walker.

Party Lines Mafia - Day One: Lame Ducks
Walter Kovacs replied to Tamamono's topic in LEGO Mafia and Role-Play Games
At the time I started to change my vote, Maurice had not voted, so I had the count at 5-4 Carol over Addie (I know the timing looks like there is quite a discrepancy, but these old arthritic thumbs just don't type that fast on these new-fangled devices). So I thought i was making it 6-3, not 6-4. At this point, it's 9 votes for Carol, 4 for Addie. A Day 1 lynch of a Loyal will do more than a non-lynch, so I think I will keep my vote as it is. There's a chance my instincts are wrong, and Carol is an Octan. * I want to clarify that last line. A Day 1 lynch of a loyal will give us more information (based on voting patterns) than a non-lynch. I hope I was clear the first time, but I think everyone gets my meaning now. Of course, a scum lynch is the best result of all. Only time will tell that. -
Party Lines Mafia - Day One: Lame Ducks
Walter Kovacs replied to Tamamono's topic in LEGO Mafia and Role-Play Games
I agree with Mr Davy. We need a lynch today if we are going to learn anything today. Although I don't believe she is scum, I'm afraid Carol is the best candidate here. I am sorry, Mrs Nottingham. Unvote: Addie Tremain (adventurer1) Vote: Carol Nottingham (Calanon) -
Party Lines Mafia - Day One: Lame Ducks
Walter Kovacs replied to Tamamono's topic in LEGO Mafia and Role-Play Games
The odds go up significantly when you vote for someone you think is scummy. And to answer your question, no, I have no reason to defend Gerald, other than I feel he is less scummy than many other members of this legislature. I've been going over the proceedings from today, and I don't feel right voting for Carol at this time. Instead, I vote: Vote: Addie Tremain (adventurer1) Addie has had very little to say all day, voted for herself very late in the Speaker debate (3 hours, 15 minutes before the close of voting, to be exact), and has not given us her opinion in the form of a vote on who she finds suspicious. -
Party Lines Mafia - Day One: Lame Ducks
Walter Kovacs replied to Tamamono's topic in LEGO Mafia and Role-Play Games
Yes, his retaliatory vote was messy. But it also points to him being Loyal to this assembly. So you are saying you would rather vote out a likely Loyal, rather than trying to find an actual Octanite? What do you hope to gain out of such a vote? What can we learn from that kind of vote? Unless. Unless we loyalists have one of your Octan cronies in our cross-hairs, and this vote for Gerald is just a distraction. Hrrm. -
Party Lines Mafia - Day One: Lame Ducks
Walter Kovacs replied to Tamamono's topic in LEGO Mafia and Role-Play Games
Now would I go and poke someone like that? In point of fact, it was merely a poke, and it elicited quite an interesting response. Though I CAN agree that his response might have been from inexperience, and not from scumminess. I'm leaning more Loyal than Octan on Gerald right now, so... Unvote: Gerald Hatley (Goliath) As for the speed of my accusation, we have a limited time to try and get information for a Day 1 lynch, and accusations generate discussion, and defenses. The more we get the Octans talking, the more chances they have to slip up. In that vein, why wouldn't I try and get meaningful conversations started as early as possible? It almost seems scummy NOT to throw out an accusation early, especially on Day 1 when information is so limited. The final point is Carol. As I stated before, I did find her speaker vote curious, more curious than Tiny's vote. However, there is a danger of a bandwagon rolling out of control right now, so I will hold off until I hear more discussion, especially from Ms Nottingham. -
Party Lines Mafia - Day One: Lame Ducks
Walter Kovacs replied to Tamamono's topic in LEGO Mafia and Role-Play Games
So... everybody is still suspect in your eyes? All joking aside, that's how it should be. For now. I'll answer for my vote for Siegfried. I find it hard to believe that an Octanite would put himself in the spotlight as early as Mr Dixon did. And waiting for any evidence, concrete or circumstantial, is like..., well, it's like I've always said about wishes: wish in one hand and shit in the other, and just see which fills up first. I don't trust Siegfried any more than I trust any of you. But we have to find the Octanites somehow, and everyone voting for themselves was not the way to accomplish that. You have to break a few eggs to make an omelette. Now it's time to get down to business and find those that Octan has cajoled. To that end, while there are two individuals that struck me as more likely Octan than others. One was Carol Nottingham, based on the timing of her nomination. The other is Gerald Hatley, for his firm refusal to vote for anyone, even though it is probably better to vote. If the two, I'd like to hear more on Gerald's reasoning. So... Vote: Gerald Hatley (Goliath) -
Party Lines Mafia - Day One: Lame Ducks
Walter Kovacs replied to Tamamono's topic in LEGO Mafia and Role-Play Games
Well, well, well. Today is certainly the most interesting first day of a session that I've encountered in my nine years of public service. It certainly will be one to remember. As for the task at hand, I have known Siegfried for many years. We have worked together on countless committees. I know him as a man of integrity, and one who is passionate for his causes. Therefore I vote Speaker: Speedy (Siegfried Dixon) Note that this endorsement is in no way a confirmation that Mr Dixon is loyal to the government. He is just as likely to be in Octan's pocket as the rest of you (myself excluded, of course ). At this point in the day, there is very little evidence of anyone's allegiances to either confirm them as loyal or condemn them as a traitor. Let us hope that more information is forthcoming. Uh, Mr Laughlin, you do realize that the Indy 500 is in May? And today is January 19th, don't you? -

Party Lines Mafia - C&D: Inauguration
Walter Kovacs replied to Tamamono's topic in LEGO Mafia and Role-Play Games
Good morning my esteemed colleagues. I, Winnifred Karchevsky, am ready for yet another session. I couldn't have said it better, Maurice. -
My first instinct was to use this piece, though getting a bar to clip onto at a 45 degree angle might be tricky. Alternatively, this part might work just as well, and be easier to use. I have no idea if the potential colors will work for you.

MLCad New user issues with Grid
Walter Kovacs replied to kieran's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
To answer your question: Yes, this is normal, especially if you use MLCad's default grid settings. I have changed the settings on the grid to something I am comfortable with. You can get there by going to: Settings => General => Change and go to the Step, Grid, Snap tab. I set my coarse grid to X: 10, Y: 8 Z: 10 and the Rotation to 90. This will move a part half a stud in the X or Z plane (the two horizontal directions) and raise it 1 plate in the Y (vertical). The Medium Grid is set to X:1, Y: 1, Z:1 and 22.5. This grid I use primarily on SNOT work. It's fine enough that I typically never need more than 4 movements to line anything up in any one direction. The rotation angle happens to be exactly one 'click' on a locking hinge. The Fine grid I set to X: 0.5, Y: 0.5, Z: 0.5 and rotation of 0.5. I rarely need to move anything in the XYZ planes on the fine grid. I use it primarily for rotations, and I tend to change the rotation setting depending on how small I need to rotate. I've gone down to 0.05 degrees for some rotations. Hope this helps. -
