You're right! Those seem perfect for a Tin Soldier. The Musketeer legs didn't really look right, and would've been an odd re-use there.

LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 10 Discussion
Venkefedo replied to CM4Sci's topic in Special LEGO Themes
I'm disappointed in the legs, but I think that was just chosen by whoever assembled the image in the other thread... when I saw the head, 'hair', and torso, I assumed the legs would actually be one of the Ninjago snake-tail lower-body pieces, with a bit of new deco probably. I like her head & torso well enough to add variety to Troll females at the very least.- 1076 replies

LEGO Collectable Minifgures Series 9 Rumours & Discussion
Venkefedo replied to muscleman's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Agreed... I also wish they'd use the cyborg arms for the LEFT arms occasionally! Every figure with a cyborg arm has it replacing their RIGHT arm! I finally had enough of the right-arm-only practice with the Evil Robot, so I got a couple extras and gave one of 'em TWO cyborg arms--now I need a spare regular black right arm & red hand to replace the donated cyber-limb. -
That IS black with white pattern, in the database on Brickset. http://www.brickset.com/parts/?part=6021366 I wondered the same, too, when seeing the Judge listing for S9. If that's the case, then I'll need to get a few Judges to use some wigs with a Revolutionary Soldier or two, some POTC figures, etc... the wigless judges could easily be turned into Lego Supreme Court Justices or something A tricorn hat would make more sense from a 'soldier' perspective, but the wig's a bit more fun (and there's plenty of tricorn hats to be had already)

LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 11 Rumours & Discussion

Diner Waitress with roller skates & a nice '50s/'60s style could be fun. Barbarian, definitely (if it's the Heroica Barbarian, even better--would love minifigs of the Heroica cast). Tiki Warrior, definitely. Scientist/Alien Scientist, possibly. Holiday Elf, Bavarian Lady, most likely. Gingerbread Man, Jazz Musician, Scarecrow, if they look good. Yeti, definitely. Evil Mech, absolutely. Lady Robot, most likely. Grandma, well Grandpa needs his wife and Grandma Visitor needs someone to visit! Constable, if he's an English bobby, with the Pith/Sun Helmet in black and fitting for a Victorian-type setting (to go with the Detective, for instance), then definitely a few! Mountain Climber, Welder, probably skip. -
LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 10 Discussion

One of them may be the Character Encyclopedia bonus figure. A lot of cool figures there, even some of the City ones (I tend towards Castle first, then Space, then some City). Warrior Woman's gonna be a fave, a 'Boudica'/Xena-type Celtic Warrior Woman to defend her home against the Romans or Vikings (or share tactics with the Viking Woman), perhaps join the Highlander or the rumored Barbarian, aid the Heroic Knight, fight the Evil Knight, and just generally be an awesome female warrior addition to the Castle-type theme. Glad to see another Roman soldier, now commander. Hopefully he'll have a cape, too (I got an extra dark red cape in my Helm's Deep set, so I gave it and a regular red plume to one of my Centurions to promote him; the cape adds a lot!). Grandpa's a fun one and will be nice to get extras for the torso & bald cap. The Librarian's great as Amy Farrah Fowler or Velma customs perhaps. Bumblebee Girl's a great addition to the costumed theme (Lego Blind Melon 'No Rain' video, go! Just switch out the head with the Librarian's for the glasses). Tomahawk Warrior and Revolution Soldier are swell (extras of the latter for that wig can spruce up some POTC figures, no doubt, and POTC/Pirate hats and hairpieces can add variety to the Revolution Soldier as well!) Medusa looks good, too.. not only as a mythology figure, but also for parts for female Trolls! Baseball Fielder's also fun... but first I gotta get a couple Batters! If not a full group for each team Sea Captain's also snazzy looking. The rest look pretty good, but I'm iffy about (tho I love the Painball Player's helmet)- 1076 replies

LEGO Collectable Minifgures Series 9 Rumours & Discussion
Venkefedo replied to muscleman's topic in Special LEGO Themes
I agree about the Knight... Evil Knight's helmet in silver? That helmet has basically been a 'villain' helmet since its debut. A new or different helm in silver (or gold) would be ideal. Cyclops sounds intriguing (especially with S10's Medusa!) and Marion too. The Battle Mech wasn't said to go with Galaxy SQUAD (which is a lighter blue, and the blue robot already appears twice in Wave 1), but Galaxy PATROL from Series 7 according to that guy--so, probably Dark Blue. But if the parts are from the Galaxy Squad robots, I hope they're from the orange or green (or green's head but with wings of orange) in Dark Blue to match Galaxy Patrol. Then if the rumors of an Evil Mech in a later series pan out, maybe use the red robot's head for that (if it's meant to go with the S9 Alien Trooper, the red robot head's more 'alien' in appearance). I love all the S10 brickset leaks, but can't wait for more S9 pics! -
They do seem a bit high; I think those are Canadian dollars, but even compared to similar-sized sets like Captain's Cabin from POTC it seems excessive. Captain's Cabin has a few more pieces and a 3rd minifigure, AND is licensed, so... seems a bit odd that it costs the same as Space Swarmer.

Agreed... especially since the insect-aliens here could also be used as an Annihilation Wave with the Marvel Superheroes theme and the Wave had some massive ships along with the smaller craft & legions of bug-soldiers. All that's missing is Annihilus himself (who we might see if we ever get Fantastic Four sets!) Maybe Wave 2--if there IS a Wave 2--will feature some larger bug-ships, maybe a bug-base, a 3rd alien head-type, more Squad members (would be nice if, eventually, we could have a Blue Squad, Red Squad, Green Squad, and Orange Squad, with 2-3 humans each and a couple different robots to fill 'em out; I don't mind the current rainbow Squad of 5 humans & 4 robots, but the more the merrier!), maybe a Squad base.

Robots: 2, actually! 2nd robot is in 70700. Unless you're not counting repeats, in which case Blue humans drops down to 1. Same guy in 70701 and 70703. I like 'em, overall... the robots are kinda interesting, I like that the armor has clips for wings, I like the colors of the squad members and the face prints (Blue's head will be nice for Galaxy Patrol variety, as his eye-covering viewer is on the other eye). and dig most of the vehicles. The aliens get the short end of the stick on big ships, with their largest vehicles being rather flimsy-looking, but I think they make up for it a bit by having some fun small bug-vehicles in the two biggest sets and the Space Swarmer. Kinda disappointed that the Blues are repeated in '00 and '01, as I like the other colors' robots more... but, good custom fodder, and I can't pass up the ships in those sets. Thanks for all the pics!!

Lego Mirkwood Elf Guardian Polybag @ Toys R us
Venkefedo replied to sgtbernalcl25's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
I was worried about that, but just got the shipping confirmation email an hour or two ago. That's AFTER getting the order confirmation yesterday... so... fingers are crossed! -
Same here, but that could be normal. I haven't ordered from TRU via PayPal often (if at all--and if so, never for something I was worried about). Kmart's website is notorious for listing items as 'in stock' but then canceling paid orders because "Oh, we don't actually have that". Not sure about TRU's history on such things. I hope it goes through!

No More Elrond Minifigures Available?!?
Venkefedo replied to Deathleech's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
I think I mentioned it in the main LOTR/Hobbit thread, but my days-after-Halloween preorder showed up yesterday, and Elrond was indeed the bonus they'd mailed separately! Phew. Might be worth checking at a GameStop location to see if they have leftovers... could always use more Elves!- 146 replies

If the Black Falcons can have a castle, why not the Eagles? Maybe it'll be like the Thundercats' Cats Lair fortress... or the Silverhawks' Hawk Haven (ie with a big brick-built eagle head on a tower or over the gate or something) I hope there's some substance to it, more like the Kingdoms' King's Castle or Fantasy King's Castle Siege than the flimsy-looking Dino headquarters/pen (with a bunch of vehicles taking the place of the dinosaurs)
-
That'd be nice... I'd love a bunch myself. Maybe one of the custom accessory sites will do up a sword very similar to TLG's elven blade (I know at least one of 'em has an 'Elven Blade' but it's a lot fancier, not as elegantly simple as the official one). Of course, by then, there might be enough real swords on the market that the Bricklink price of the sword will have dropped to $1 or under, which is about what a custom one would cost anyway. Could always hope for another Helm's Deep army-builder set with a few of Haldir's troops with longbows AND swords (and elven helmets?).

I think it's intended to be from the Woodland Elves' area of Mirkwood... less murky. Not a direct tie into the Spiders set (tho until we see the movie, I'm not even sure Legolas & Tauriel are actually IN the scene; could be just convenience, and the fact that Bilbo makes more sense in Bag End, Barrels, and Riddles--it's not without precedent, TLG does it with Star Wars all the time like with Amidala in the Gungan Sub or Obi-Wan in the Podracers set), but a way to make a little 'brighter' Mirkwood for the Elves to hang out in. YES. That would've been excellent. Even though there was no easy way to get the Uruk-Hai poly around my area, one thing that kept me from hunting it down was the lack of the Uruk sword... I'm not a big fan of the halberds so many Uruks (and the poly) have, but I love the swords. At least with this Elf, his non-sword weapon is the longbow, which is still pretty uncommon and very useful in the broader Castle theme. Caedus, it's not actually Legolas' torso... it's the Elf Guard's torso from the Barrels set. Pretty much the same colors, though!
-
I like the Space Swarmer, and the robots will probably grow on me (not too crazy about the blue bot's 'weapon', but he's got some nice AC/Galaxy Patrol blasters on his jetpack I can always use instead). And the red 'scorpion' alien in another color! That's great! Hopefully the robots will come in BOTH colors (so we can get the orange bot's head & armor in blue, too, that is). Not too crazy about the orange uniforms, or the high price tag on what seems to be a fairly small set... the orange vehicles aren't all that big, and the mosquito's ship is really small! At first glance, seems overpriced. May feel differently once I'm looking at it in person. :)

I had the same concern, but went ahead and ordered 5 anyway A hair piece (different color from the Barrels elf guard) and/or a cape or Olive hood would've been ideal, but now I just have an excuse to get more Uruk-Hai Army sets to steal Eomer's cape! Wine glass, longbow, dark green hood (great for forestmen, Green Arrow customs, etc), and a nice generic Elf Soldier body, PLUS a tiny tree to add to the brighter parts of Mirkwood? That's pretty good!
-
No longer having to track down the retired (and expensive) Killer Croc to add to your Arkham Asylum, for instance! And all kinds of other reptilian monster-men.

If he was a noob like me, I'd say "Definitely far-fetched"... but the guy's been around here a few years. Benefit of the doubt?

It's a double-edged sword; we get used to a certain size being associated with a certain price, so when there's a size change to a smaller box at the same price, we feel like we're not getting our money's worth, that kinda thing. As an example: Target and Wal-Mart both have the Star Wars TIE Fighter marked down to $35, a great price for the set compared to the original $50-$55 tag, which most felt was overpriced. The Gungan Sub is in a box exactly the same size, but costs $15 more than the TIE's original high-end price, or $35 more than the current price--TWICE the cost of the TIE, in the same size box with the same number of minifigures (to be fair, Amidala's got more newly-molded parts, and one of the TIE's minifigs is just an astromech), and with only 50-ish more pieces than the TIE. A lot of us judge a set's value by piece count or other 'content' factors before box size, but the boxes do play a role in that assessment; I think it's probably more prevalent with non-AFOLs who don't know all the ins and outs of judging a set's value (I'm still learning 'em myself!). Helm's Deep could probably fit in the box of a $40 set (a Ninjago vehicle or something, rather than Orc Forge), but then you'd be paying $120 for an awfully small (if heavy) box. That would probably give many consumers pause, if they don't know how to price by piece count. I remember a couple years ago, TLG changed several themes' boxes to smaller ones, so they have tried somewhat. I noticed it particularly on the $12-20 range in Star Wars and POTC. Even after the change, there's still a LOT of empty space in the boxes. The plastic bags take up much, and the instruction manuals, but I recently got a friend hooked on Lego and he bought several small sets (SW Planets, Endor Battlepack, the Mining polybags, a $12 Mining truck, and a $6 Creator plastic-case set). Instructions, planet shells, and a couple other things aside, he fit the rest of all that into the plastic Creator case. Two $12 sets, a few mini-vehicles and figures, AND the original Creator set in one plastic case. There's room to shrink the boxes quite a bit more, I think. It'll just be tough getting everyone used to the idea of paying $20 for what's normally a $6 set. I wonder if Uruk-Hai Army would fit, instructions and all, in a $9 Racer box?

Ravens are also pretty dang smart... and these are animals who've been mutated into humanoids, so relative size of the pre-anthro animal doesn't really matter. The heads & 'helmets' (which are, like you said, probably meant to be the real heads with the 'purist' heads underneath) look much cooler in black than in dark flesh or dark tan or whatever they might be if Vultures were picked. As to the bloody theme, Space Police III had at least one figure (Slizer) with ripped, bloody clothes.
-
That, and the character description has the Evil Knight as a mercenary, basically, working for Cedric the Bull, Basil the Bat Lord, and Vladek. I think the boar might work better as a standard for a mercenary group, not a full-on faction. I got several Evil Knights and just have 'em working alongside my Evil Dwarves, all serving under the Troll King (though I did enjoy looking the custom faction decals someone else on EB designed! So I wouldn't be opposed to an official faction, I just don't think it likely)
-
The only thing really 'animated' about him are his eyes... if this was Dexter from Attack of the Clones, he'd probably look very similar. The head would be exactly the same, at any rate. I don't think the 'stacked' torsos work as well here as on Lord Garmadon in Ninjago (and they don't look particularly great there, either)... too tall & gangly, not enough bulk to him. A modified torso assembly, about half-height but still with a neck post and arms, might work better with addons like Krell and Garmadon than a regular torso assembly. Aww, I like the Gamorrean! I wish his head could turn (same with Krell here) but it's a lot nicer to look at than the old no-deco sand-green Gamorrean head/armor from years ago (I like the sculpt of the head on the old one, but it's just too bland without paint!)
-
I think they can rework the Black Falcons back into blue-and-black... could be the Falcon revival was a last-minute thing where they swapped Falcon & Dragon shields, considering everything but the armor is identical to the Dragon faction. I'd rather it returned to (dark) blue and black, if they bring it back. Lordofdragonss, I like your ideas! Elves vs Vikings with griffins & dragons as mounts... would be nice to see the Buckbeak hippogriff mold return or get improved, and would give us a way of getting the Tolkien elf hairpiece in yellow-ear colors, and more color varieties for the CMF elf hair, too. And maybe a new Viking helmet without horn-holes? Maybe it's too odd to want a more historically-accurate Viking helmet in a theme where they fight mythical elves, though Probably too similar to LOTR/Hobbit for a 2013 theme, but I'd really love more yellow elves in the future. Forestmen and/or Wolfpack would be great! Perhaps it could work with Kingdoms, but somewhat standalone, with the Forestmen as the 'good' bandits and the Wolfpack as the 'bad' ones? Like, the Forestmen steal from the Dragons to give to the poor, proper Robin Hood style, but the Wolfpack preys on the Lion faction and everyone else. Maybe throw in a couple new civilian-types like rich merchants and new peasants? And in a couple sets maybe some Kingdoms soldiers as guards for the merchants or just foes for the bandits.
