    LEGO Hobbit 2014

$50 seems a good markdown for DGB. Up until last weekend, Amazon had Mirkwood Elf Army at $25 for a couple months, I think (and DG Ambush at $15; not sure why they decided to end that nice sale; together those two sets were the same price as some TRUs in my area were charging for the Elf Army set alone!)

Super Heroes 2014 Rumors & Discussion

Ideas might be the best chance for something like that… Watchmen's a bit too grim & adult for any 'proper' Super Heroes release (granted, they made Nolan-Bane, and Metropolis-destroying MoS Zod & Supes, but…y'know. Watchmen.)

LEGO Sci-Fi 2014 Pictures and Rumors

I've yet to be burned out on Lego SW (however, I don't buy nearly as many as I'd like to, and was burned out on the lackluster face-prints so many had until fairly recently), but Hasbro's horrible distribution & assortments burned me on their SW stuff over the last couple years. One of my favorite things in the Customizing section of SW toy sites are the vintage-style customs of characters we never got proper figures of back in the day, like Tarkin or the Rebel Fleet Trooper from Leia's ship. Those really bring the nostalgia…Lego's RFT minifig kinda does the same, it's very simple with the print entirely on the torso and plain light-bley legs, but hits every mark for me (I wish TLG would do the mod many fans do with RFTs, tho, and give 'em small pistols w/ a light-bley half-pin on the barrel, as it looks far more like the DH-17 blasters they used in the movie). Anyhoo! Back to general sci-fi… I love the Galaxy Patrol CMF, and made sure to get a handful for a little squad. I'd gladly buy sets based on/around him and/or the pink Spacegirl or even white Astronaut from the CMF series (as well as the Blacktron updates from the Space Villain, Evil Mech, and SP3's Rench!). Expands Classic Space (and Blacktron!) nicely into the 21st century!

Super Heroes 2014 Rumors & Discussion

I don't think Owlman's all that obscure… he & the rest of the Crime Syndicate are evil alternate-universe counterparts to the Justice League. But I could see wanting Captain Boomerang before them… it'd mean we'd get a boomerang Lego piece!

LEGO Sci-Fi 2014 Pictures and Rumors

I kinda look at it like Star Wars figures… I love a lot of the highly-detailed, highly-posable figures Hasbro's put out over the last 8-10 years, but there's a charm to the classic vintage Kenner figures with (generally) low detail & only 5 points of articulation (fewer, even, than a Lego minifig!). Sometimes 'simple' can be better, but…not always (my first ever minifig was a truck driver--plain red torso, plain red pants, black male hair piece…a little TOO basic). Classic Space is one case where 'simple' works.
  6. It'd be pretty fun to see TLG's take on non-Marvel Thor & Odin at least, and maybe Freya & a Valkyrie. Odin's crazy horse (Legend-Beast-style!)… brick-built Frost Giants… ah, it could be so much fun! And, most importantly, at least SOME non-horned helmets

Super Heroes 2014 Rumors & Discussion

Thing is, they can spread the content out easily with different versions of characters. Earth has 5 Green Lanterns now (Hal, John, Guy, Kyle, and the new guy Simon), there are many ways to do their outfits. Flash's costume has changed a few times (mostly belts, other lines, sometimes colors--dark red instead of regular red, gold instead of yellow). Superman & Batman have various movie & comic looks plus the New 52. Aquaman's got different hairdos, sometimes different pants, and there's his whole 'shirtless long-hair' phase with the hook-hand (and post-hook-hand, when he had the magic water hand--trans-blue hand, anyone? Good for Sith lightning-hands maybe, or anyone who can blast energy from their hands), Martian Manhunter has his more classic look, Wonder Woman's got various looks, etc. They don't really need to stretch it out in the Stormtrooper/Sith-Trooper way with "Oh, but THIS one has leg printing!", tho they could (and I'd love it on some of these, since the boots provide that extra bit of color to complete their look). True, there's more use, but like I said above--the boot color often adds a lot to the look. Imagine if Wonder Woman was released with plain fleshie legs…or solid red legs. It'd look weird. They could've gotten away w/o boot printing if they chose one of her pants-wearing outfits, of course. But with Batman, Superman, Flash… that splash of blue/black, red, or yellow makes for a nice visual. I'd rather have parts in new colors, back printing, printed elements, AND boot printing… but then I don't know anything about budgets over there.

I like the window effect! Very nifty idea… <sigh> more parts to buy…

LEGO Sci-Fi 2014 Pictures and Rumors

Very nice! I'd love darks blue, green, and red spacemen… I wouldn't even mind a resurgence in Futuron as well as Classic! I always liked them as the "next step", and without the helmets & air tanks they're kinda like "Starfleet" uniforms. Hadn't thought of doing something like that (or pink/purple) in the CMFs, but I love the idea! A much better way to deliver that than in a set, you're very much correct there. I've got a ways to go before getting an AARP card, but I remember the old helmets very well; I don't recall if any of my spacemen had broken chinstraps, but for sure I knew someone who had one as I always worried about it happening to more of mine after seeing one.

LEGO Sci-Fi 2014 Pictures and Rumors

There might be a certain charm to having that in a collection, tho Like having a piece of an alternate history where you got a Classic Space set in 1984 with a green spaceman in it and the ol' chinstrap snapped on you (as they did for so many others)

LEGO Star Wars 2014 Pictures and Rumors

The pic's probably no more than 4 years old, due to all the Atlantis packaging in there. I seem to recall first seeing it posted maybe 2 years ago.

I commented on it, too! Maybe it was temporarily removed (hopefully not deleted) because it was posted too soon?

I'd be fine with that… any of 'em other that Scorch (Hasbro seemed to LOOOOOOVE Scorch above all the rest)

    LEGO LotR - general discussion

I think Gondor Pippin & Rohan Merry are just as important as some of those others, like getting Gondor Aragorn and Gandalf the White… if we did get a Witch-King/Pelennor Fields set, the most obvious characters to include are the Witch-King, Eowyn, and Merry. Theoden's there, too, and I wouldn't argue against him & his horse being included in something smaller than Helm's Deep, but not if it meant we wouldn't get Merry.

    Review: LEGO Ideas #007 Exosuit

That's my plan, too! With some head-swaps for the spare Pete & Yve, of course, to expand the Salvage Team ranks. Really nice review! I'm a little disappointed with the storyline in the book compared to the video one; I like the more immediate conflict the video implies between pirates & missing crew of a derelict ship, while the "decades-old crash-site with mysterious occupants" doesn't appeal to me quite as much. Are the others in the ship the aged remnants of the crew, or their offspring? New alien inhabitants? A pirate gang who've claimed the wreck as their new hideout? There's lots of possibilities, of course--I just like the more 'recent' feel of the video's situation. …still need to get Metalbeard's Duel, so I can have Metalbeard duel with someone closer to his own size

    LEGO LotR - general discussion

Aside from the Council of Elrond, wave 2 of LOTR was hobbit-free! …that's just odd. I was really hoping for all 4 you mentioned (particularly because it'd be a way to get more use out of a Rohan helm, out of a possible Gondor helm, and a possible new Orc helm in addition to using them on more regular troops from those armies)

    Future Star Wars Minifigs

Sev's red coloring's probably just paint; most of their enemies have been droids, and I'm not sure Geonosians (probably the only organics they'd engaged in combat before the game begins) would even have red blood. If they had to split up the squad between two BPs due to some rule about not having 4 unique prints in a single set, that's fine so long as we get some interesting droid builds (one could have Destroyers akin to last year's AOTC BP, one a mini-spider-droid, and then a couple random Battle Droid minifigs)

    Future Star Wars Minifigs

Pfft… pointing out my own stupidity here, I linked a weapon that only debuted this year and said it "doesn't see enough use". I had confused it with the guns from Indiana Jones & Batman sets, which didn't have studs on the sides or top (but were otherwise fairly similar in proportions, if a bit shorter)

Post your general LEGO Star Wars questions here

That'd actually be a Deak/Vader confrontation ;) Deak's brother, Luke, was still at home with their Jedi uncle Owen Lars, their cousin Leia, and their younger twin brothers Biggs & Windy. Oh, 2nd draft of Star Wars, why are you so wacky? But yeah, some proper McQuarrie-style versions of the characters would be great. With Zeb already a minifigure, it'd be simple enough for TLG to turn him into an actual McQuarrie Chewbacca; GOTG Star-Lord's helmet could be a great base for McQuarrie Deak.

    Future Star Wars Minifigs

Yes! Delta Squad would be pretty easy (a new helmet might be nice, but new prints on one of the existing clone or Mando/Bounty-Hunter helms might do in a pinch), and a great Battlepack (just needs a brick-built droid enemy from the game, which should likewise be pretty simple to do! And hey, if they don't use the new launching-blasters (which, to be fair, look closer to Delta Squad's DC-17m than they do to other SW weapons), they can always use this one which doesn't see enough use, and could be great for Sev's sniper add-on or Scorch's anti-armor attachment.

    LEGO Hobbit 2014

They've had Preview Night on Wednesdays for over the last decade! …tho traditionally not much 'new' is shown from most toy lines that night (usually it depends on whether the toy line has a dedicated panel during the weekend, I suppose; for instance Hasbro will reveal new SW figures and Transformers in the display cases on the floor following the panels for those toys. I never paid attention to whether Lego did anything similar there)

    [MOC] Ogre Encampment

Thanks for that breakdown! This whole thing's fantastic. It immediately screams "WoW" (makes me wanna dust off my old characters I haven't played in months). Might have to try to make one of these to give my own little cyclops "ogre" squad a home!

    Future Star Wars Minifigs

I'm with Wesker, the CW Dooku/JJonahJameson hair seems most fitting for Tarkin. It flares on the sides, has a nice peak in the middle, far closer to a good silhouette of Tarkin in Lego form. Not perfect, maybe, but better IMO that the slicked-back AOTC-Dooku/Tri-Fighter Palpatine hair or Grandpa's bald cap.

LEGO Sci-Fi 2014 Pictures and Rumors

The guy was surprised by his friend in the mech, remarks "this is groovy!" when he gets one, and they approached the situation without any suits of their own. All that points to them knowing how to pilot suits, maybe (tho I imagine that's fairly standard knowledge), but not that it's their primary job in the Classic Space Corps. They'd have mini-mechs like Zane & Kai had in Ninjago or in the smallest Exo-Force sets, right? It makes more sense to me for them to have a broader job description than just "mech pilot".
  25. Venkefedo

LEGO Sci-Fi 2014 Pictures and Rumors

Ah, but they only found the mechs in the launch video... What was their prior role?
