...was there some story I missed or forgot where it was ever confirmed that the lead for Rogue One was originally set to be a man instead of a woman? The only role I recall hearing that about was Captain Phasma, who did so little in TFA that it really didn't matter one way or another.

If they want a $100+ set for Rogue One, an AT-AT might be possible (this time packed with a palm tree!), or the landing craft (tho another brick with upright wings might not be terribly exciting) but it's also possible there are other vehicles suited to that price point in the film that we haven't seen yet. The hover tank seems a given, tho. That world isn't Dantooine, tho. Guaranteed. The Empire doesn't find out about the Dantooine base until Leia tells them, and when the scouts arrive they find it'd been abandoned some time ago... the Rebel base on Dantooine precedes the film, possibly by months. They're on Yavin IV already according to the trailer. If the filmmakers did enough research to know that Ben Mendelsohn's ISB officer needed black pants to match ANH, they'd know that Dantooine shouldn't be a factor in this film that takes place immediately prior to ANH--and that the Empire shouldn't be involved in any Dantooine stuff in any event!

Right? Even as a little kid, this was one of my favorite scenes to quote & watch.

Picked up the Rebel Alliance Battlepack... still haven't built the bike, but the figures are fun! Looking forward to getting a couple more in the coming months.

Yes, Ackbar participates in the evacuation efforts, but nothing in the comic suggested there were massive fleets of Mon Calamari ships. And the reason they could only throw what we saw in ANH at the Death Star is because that was all that they had available or could get there in time; the rest arrived to help in the aftermath, like the comic showed. Except that's more Legends stuff. Nothing in the new canon suggests that the Mon Cala ships (which, again, number in the single or perhaps arguably very low double-digits at Endor) were the first capital-class ships at the Alliance's disposal. It could easily be argued that we just never saw their major capital ships outside of the odd frigate and the cruisers at Endor, but that more were 'just offscreen' at Endor or elsewhere. It's a new canon now; the Mon Cala contribution may not be anywhere near as significant as before, and those ships could've been 'lost' the same way Alderaanian convoys kept losing ships, providing a handful of cruisers to the Rebellion.

Awesome little diorama! NPU for the comlink, too. Wasn't the window on the other side of the console? I thought the closet was on the right side of that console. Guess I'll have to refresh my memory and watch it again

Who says there are massive fleets of Mon Calamari ships aiding the rebels? There were only a handful at Endor, where most of the Rebel fleet was located. Who says Mon Cala was liberated before the war's conclusion? It may well be an Imperial world until after Endor... if they liberated it beforehand, what's to stop the Empire from sending another Star Destroyer fleet to take it back?
-
You're assuming that the Mon Calamari didn't join the Rebellion until after Hoth. The new canon has made it abundantly clear that we never see the entirety of the Rebellion in ANH or ESB. There could be several Mon Calamari ships among the fleets that only show up to Yavin after the battle, to aid in the evacuation... all we saw in ESB were some transports to clear Hoth, and a scattering of ships at the very end that don't represent the fully assembled fleet. No, the actual victory came in the battle, as the title crawl states. It's the first victory for the Rebel Alliance in a major battle... prior events, like the victories in "Rebels", are smaller scale... the Alliance doesn't exist yet in the show, it's a loose network of rebel cells, many who still think they're independent. Victories in the years between the show & Rogue One will likely be those where they successfully escape, smaller engagements like stealing supplies and destroying shipments, etc. What's described in the opening crawl is thought to be the first major battle, a fleet of Rebel ships vs a fleet of Imperial ships, and the Rebels win, alongside the mission to steal the plans. Then they destroy the Death Star which is an even bigger victory...but at the time of the crawl, there's only been one major victory.

He could always be rebooted into canon elsewhere. Stealing the DS plans was a very, very small part of his storyline (and of the game itself), and multiple others also "stole the Death Star plans" in the EU, too: Havet Storm in a "choose your own adventure" Jedi book, Bria Tharen & Red Hand Squadron in the Han Solo Trilogy, Rianna Saren in Star Wars: Lethal Alliance. ...but what's the story for such an "important moment"? We already know that Ackbar is part of the Rebellion as of ANH, which means he's already part of the Rebellion at the time of Rogue One... the old EU story of the Mon Calamari joining the Alliance is gone, and stopped making sense once they ditched the idea that the Mon Calamari only recently joined the galactic community and welcomed the Empire as friends before being enslaved. The story of them joining in the new canon might be interesting, but maybe not "movie" interesting... not like a heist film about stealing the plans to the Death Star and winning the first victory against the Empire.

Fair point... tho it really applies to pretty much everywhere on the internet I'm psyched for an OT-looking film, too! TFA gave me something new in the future of the same universe; Rogue One's giving us something new in the OT setting so many of us grew up with. Seeing OT stormies all over the place was wonderful! While I know a lot of people are still upset that Kyle Katarn's not (likely) involved and the old EU is officially Legends, this movie could be to the SW films what Dark Forces was to the video games... no Force-use as a backbone, just soldiers infiltrating Imp bases and causing mayhem. I hope Lego's reference material included pics of the guys in the Endor helmets, too (you see at least one walking out of the hangar behind Jyn & Diego's character when the pilots run out), so we can get more of those snazzy new "dark green band" helmets from the Tydirium in cheaper sets. I love the ragtag mix of the rebel troops: some RFT-style, some guys in Hoth-ish hats with goggles, some Endor soldier hats, some different stuff, lots of different uniforms. Between this movie's sets and the Battlefront Alliance Battle Pack set, we should have a pretty awesome mix of Rebels pretty soon (even if you don't include Resistance troops and whatnot in there, too)

You really can't conclude it'll just be about Jyn Erso... This teaser focused on her, as she's the leader of the group and probably has the most development, but she'll still be part of a team. They might've focused on her up front because of the negative reaction surrounding the 'secrecy' of Rey, holding back on revealing too much about her too soon, the misdirect with Finn & the saber, the media storm over the perceived lack of Rey merchandise compared to male characters, etc. It might be that, but it could just be a character teaser, with more to follow that'll focus on the other members of the team. Too soon to say. It's the first teaser, showing barely a couple minutes of footage of a 90+ minute film. Rogue One... not Rogue Squadron. Two very different things.

No, that's an ISB uniform. Just like Yularen wears in ANH, except with a cape & different rank badge. That's not a Grand Admiral badge, and Grand Admirals wear full-white uniforms, no black pants (again, Lego--and Hasbro before them--got ANH Yularen wrong in that they gave him white pants instead of the black he wore in ANH, tough to see tho it was). He's clearly not Thrawn. I think the tank troopers and the new "sandtroopers" are different types, comparing the ones in the tank with the ones running thru the Imp installation alongside regular stormies later in the teaser. Hopefully we'll get both kinds.

I saw it argued recently that since the creature is essentially Dr. Frankenstein's 'son' from a certain point of view, and has the name "Adam", he could conceivably be thought of as "Adam Frankenstein" making it a-ok to refer to him as just "Frankenstein" Great finds! I still have that old skiff, as well as probably everything from the original A-wing, B-wing, X-wing, and Snowspeeder sets (even the boxes for at least 3 of those, as they had the cardboard trays which make 'em pretty useful for storing loose bricks). I had a few other old sets, too, but their pieces are likely far more scattered among my Lego...

Two of those pics are of Ozzel & Veers... in grey uniforms. The rest seem based on old games (one is Dark Forces or DF2, I think, which aren't great games for reference), or weird comic panel. At best the closest we get in the films is a warm dark grey as opposed to the cool dark greys many wear... Lego's old dark grey would've been perfect for that variation! Dark tan, not so much, especially for Grand Moff Tarkin.
-
That's a warm gray; in other shots in his episodes, it looks cooler. Depends on the lighting. That's how they seemed to have started using dark tan anyway for Rebels Imp officers, because of the lighting in one of the first scenes with Imp officers on Lothal...the whole lighting of the scene was warm, giving their uniforms a 'dark tan' look, but indoors in different lighting it's the usual Imp gray. Basically what I'm saying is it should've been dark bley anyway, regardless of what they think it MIGHT look like in a given reference still. His uniform in ANH was a warm gray, too, and there was a lot of variety between the hues of the uniforms of the Death Star officers, but...dark bley is the best choice.

They were likely all feeding off the same story. If it was the story I mentioned, about the obsessiveness over matching Cushing's every last detail and movement from other films, then it's all just as bogus because that's not how CG artists work. They'd be far better off getting Pygram back (and letting him talk) than investing a ludicrous amount of effort in making a Polar Express zombie or another flawed Jeff Bridges.
-
That rumor was weak! When it originally surfaced, there was a whole bit about how they were analyzing other Cushing roles to match his gait, to make sure all his proportions and mannerisms were precise, etc... Which smacked of ridiculous overkill to anyone with any rudimentary knowledge of what goes into creating CG characters. Crafting a perfect CG head might be worth the effort, tho it'll undoubtedly fall into the Uncanny Valley, but the body would either just be a body double with the head replaced, or part an entirely mo-capped character. They'd be far better off recasting than creating a Polar Express/Beowulf zombie Cushing. Besides, Rogue One is about the theft of the plans, not necessarily about the Death Star itself, so Tarkin may not even need to be involved outside of a hologram when an Imp officer contacts Tarkin to reveal that they're under attack and/or the plans were stolen.
-
As I recall, Admiral Daala was Tarkin's lover and she just wore a regular gray uniform. There's no need to modify any legs to give Yularen boots, since he wore black pants and (presumably) black boots! Hasbro and Lego didn't do their research properly. The modified scientist legs would be great for a Grand Admiral, however
-
Nope. Similar expression and shadows under the eyes, but more lines and a chin.
-
Yeah, definitely... Nope, that's Toryn Farr in the UCS Hoth set. There was a Leia in the 2011 set, however.

3D Printed Minifig Head... Creepy?
Venkefedo replied to xboxtravis7992's topic in Minifig Customisation Workshop
To be fair, even Lego goofed like that in their Nuremberg display for the 'park' minifig set, with the guy in the wheelchair. They used the Zach torso from Jurassic World, but forgot to swap the hands for yellow hands to match the head. With these, as everyone already noted it's super-creepy; it's much more fun trying to approximate yourself with actual Lego heads! Granted the flesh heads are still somewhat limited in variety for many colors (and tend to be more expensive), but if all else fails there are tons of great yellow heads that could stand in for anyone regardless of skin color. -
Great torso for zombie-lovers, I suppose... seems pretty boring to me however, tho I realize between this guy and the one in the Rey's Speeder set we'll now have both thugs that attack her in Niima Outpost. I just find the design boring; hopefully we'll never see another desert world populated by people in tattered wraps in later films

What're your favorite and least favorite Star Wars minifigures?
Venkefedo replied to Darthking623's topic in LEGO Star Wars
...even less erasing if you use plain black legs! (most accurate would be white hips and legs that were only white on the upper part, ending where the crotch ends, since he wears black pants & presumably black boots in the film) Some of my faves: Darth Malgus Theron Nett/Red 10 from the Microfighter Throne Room Duel Luke X-wing Pilot Poe Dameron Chopper I like all the modern astromechs (when they started printing the full domes), but they're pretty gigantic compared to the minifigs... Chopper's size is great, he looks good, and his head also fits wonderfully with the R2-Q5/R5-J2 body to make another black & orange Imperial astromech! (I do hope we get "Chopper in Imperial disguise" from when he replaced an Imp courier droid in a Rebels set eventually... black head with red trim, white body & legs, not the slapdash "Breaking Ranks" crappy paint job...for that matter, I'd love some of conehead R4s, too, including that courier droid!). I wish the astromech bodies, including Chopper's, didn't have 4 studs, but just one in the middle so the heads could all turn. That'd make 'em practically perfect, even at their too-tall size. -
I never liked his name, because it's too close to "Sam Hill"... also, he's only the same species as Legends Darth Plagueis. We don't yet know if Plagueis was a Muun, human, or something else in the new canon yet, just that he's male.
-
If they do put one of those on it (which does seem likely), hopefully it'll be on one of the side-guns, making it a little simpler to replace... but given the focus the launcher will have as a play function, it might wind up as the chin gun. My main hope is that the legs will be nicely articulated. I never like it when the taller walkers have mostly static joints on their legs, be it from Lego or Hasbro.
