Sorry, I was too busy going on to the other gazillion threads of things I don’t normally engage with to say how I think everything is rubbish and wrong. Did I miss something?

Of course. But for this set - the part used wasn’t even the best they could

Yeah, surely even a white recolour of the rubber duck would have been better than the small bird?

Things were just perfect in the olden days, it’s true.

I guess I just don’t get the point of these kind of posts. If everything is so un-awesome - why be here?

I think the elephant might fare better, like the triceratops does with the frill , having the ears as a foil

I agree on the lions. With the elephants - yeah same mould, think that the head is like the mammoth and some of the dinos, so it will move and rotate

At the risk of being a total geek, wanted to update that the printed snake is definitely based on an African Rock Python, which has a very identifiable spear shaped marking on its head. to me, Lego have really raised the game with these animals: making sure that they are a realistic assemblage of species, and not just making them generic. Whilst I guess this new monkey mould will be widely used and come in a variety of colours from now on, I think in these sets they represent vervet and samango monkeys, which are the species most commonly found in Savanna and Southern Africa.

Yeah, I don’t really agree with any of the complaints. The new animals are simply amazing, and the amount of them in the sets way exceed anything the jungle theme brought. The inclusion of more animals leads these to be more ‘kid friendly’ and hence targeted at lower age groups, which in turn means simpler vehicles. As to the scenery - folks do know this is the African Savannah, right? It’s a bit different from a jungle, so standalone trees, Rocky outcrops and waterholes are all legitimate and accurate. Yes they have chosen a simplistic style on the trees, but it’s a pretty good approximation of a simplified acacia tree imho. Lastly the sets also include a bunch of green and blue bases which are also very useful for landscape building. Bravo to Lego for this wave. 10/10 from me.

Such an awesome set. So happy with the level of detail in the new animals and the amazing reprints. Also - new braided black hair piece!

It’s the eagle mould, recoloured and printed to look like a vulture (99% sure that’s what is going on) I take it all back. It’s a bateleur eagle. Not a vulture Wow. I’m shocked at how specific this set is, with the white lion variants and a specific southern African eagle species ... now I’m off to look up monkeys

You might be right - but I think it’s just the eagle mould recoloured. The photos are so blurry. The eagle mould hasn’t resurfaced or been reused anywhere yet ...

Lego Licensed Parts available from Bricks & Pieces

Mammoth was, partly because it was several parts, iirc. on the others - not all always were / are available - the standard pink pig, is a notable example. You can get the one with eyelashes though 😜 It was momentarily online I think - but was orderable for a brief while as a phone-in certainly. The sheep may not be easily available since it seems to be first appearing in a licensed set - then it can count as a licensed part, like they did with the lobster to start, and the pink pig still.

Latest news about Lego animal moulds

Indeed. Almost all of the ‘standard’ CMF animals have showed up in BAM later on, and similarly some animals like the dolphin have shown up in CMF after sets. Can definitely see sheep and monkey and the ‘big cat cub’ being in a range of sets (historical, fantasy, city, licensed) or showing up as BAM accessories. Tbh I think white/tan is the most realistic colour variant for lions, the other option would have been a darker body colour and a black/dark mane ... which I’m sure will turn up at some point, but might have been a little on-the-nose in terms of Lion King similarity :)

Latest news about Lego animal moulds

No, but look at what they tend to do - create animal moulds with more than one use. Elephants, big cats and monkeys can be used in various themes; giraffes and hippos are a bit more limited in scope ;) FWIW I think we all had expectations raised and dashed when the Prince of Persia sets gave us ostriches and camels!

I mean ... if you have very high expectations then you’re gonna be disappointed. Did we really expect lion cubs, sheep and baby elephant this year, let alone the long-awaited reimagining of adult elephant, monkeys and a male lion? Let alone sets with 5 and 8 critters in them?

Yeah, same elephant mould, different ‘tusk’ pieces, the standard horn and ‘tail’ pieces it seems
