I would say we know for sure that we'l get TWO more hobbit waves, one for the second movie ("The Desolation of Smaug") and another one for the third and final movie ("There and back again"). After that, we'll see. As for the LOTR line, I sincerely don't know for how long it is going to live, but AFOL collectors enjoy it a lot, MOC'ers (Pirate and Castle) enjoy it a lot, as for kids. I actually think they're more likely to prefer to get something they see on a movie, like the hobbit.

Can't understand why there is no A-wing, that thing destroyed a super star destroyer. That or a Slave I, which is an amazing ship with lot's of details that could be truly highlighted in ucs scale.

Lego Lord of the Rings video game for mac, will it happen?
mpaisana posted a topic in LEGO Historic Themes
Hey everyone, Does anyone know if they'll be launching an OSX version of the game? I know some of the previous games have been launched for the operative system, but i googled it and I don't know if it's usual for the Mac version to be released after the other platforms. Does anyone have any clue? Thanks (hope this is the right place to post this!)- 11 replies

I always say enough of these Hoth sets for me, but then everytime I see a Snowspeeder give up and get it. It's one of the best ship designs in star wars, dammit!
-
These sets don't attract me as they used too. I feel that they should launch other kinds of exclusives, more expensive if need be but with more detailed reproductions of some scenarios (like cloud city).

General Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit Questions
mpaisana replied to jmagaletta's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
It is on sale, I'm currently building it and I'm not liking it that much. Doesn't feel like a €99 set (standard price), goes better for €58. I keep getting the feeling that I'm building many small sets instead of one big nicely designed set. And it has lot's of stickers. Anyway, it has many nice pieces for castle builders, if you're into that. -

You'll get Gandalf with Bag End, better buy a bunch of 30212 Mirkwood elf guards! -

I second large88, the 79003 is an awesome set, get that one. -
There is no way Star Wars is a theme everyone's sick and tired, due to (re-)(re-)re-releases. This theme has already a historical weight for TLG (basically saved the ship back in 1999), and the current profits of the line don't show boredom in the fan base. The reason why this will go on is because it's a very versatile license. They can re-release boring sets AFOLS will buy (they do, in fact) and they can release products based on new products like Clone Wars and stuff. Please note that even though I'm a Lego SW fan, I'm a bit tired of seeing other themes be sacrificed on behalf of that license. In almost 15 years it's hard to imagine what we've lost in terms of possible Lego space lines. I do hope LOTR doesn't suffer from worse sales, it's totally worth it. As for exclusives, Orthanc doesn't seem that cool to me, would prefer an exclusive Lothlórien.

If you read the previous posts on this thread you can catch up with all the info. There are evidence that points towards a Tower of Orthanc set (pics of the lego design offices show a preliminary design model). On other past posts of this thread it has been discussed that the LOTR line hasn't been that successful sales-wise. The SW and LOTR fan-based community is totally different, I agree with you, SW's much bigger and intergenerational. But I guess for TLG it all comes down to numbers, and if a licensed (and more expensive to maintain theme) isn't successful, they'll ditch it and get another one. I'm not that confident that this line will go on for a long time.

Sorry people, but the announcement was related to the 10240 X-Wing starfighter, so no Orthanc so far...

No one seems to have any insight on the exclusive set being revealed at Lego World. Brickset author Huw is there but hasn't said anything on that matter yet. Meanwhile, and while you wait for Orthanc to be unveiled, you can watch the exhibition on dafished's youtube channel. He posted some cool videos.

Barry asked in the this post what do readers want him to try and find out. Post a comment with your questions, these guys are really nice and they'll give you a clue if they can. I don't know if we'll see anything Lord of the Rings at this fair :/ They'll probably leave Orthanc for Germany or New York. Those fairs don't have a no photo policy, so they're likely to unveil the more massive sets there, to get bigger impact. Hope I'm wrong.

According to Brickfanatics.co.uk, Lone Ranger sets are on display at the London Toy Fair. Unfortunately, there's a no photo policy at this fair, but Barry, who is covering the fair, will be shown round the toy both at 11:30 am and will be making updates from then.

The London Toy Fair starts today (ends on the 24th), Barry, over at Brickfanatics.co.uk will be there and I think the folks over at brickfanatics are particulary into Lego Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit themes, it'll be a nice resource to check on updates on anything that happens at the fair.

Thanks for the great review, seems like a really nice set! If I'm allowed to make a suggestion, the photos are really overexposed, in some of them it's hard to recon the limits of the ship against the white background, and it makes hard to discern the true dimensions and design of the set. Other than that, great review!

Issues with window on set 79003 An Unexpected Gathering, help?
mpaisana replied to mpaisana's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
Even with this issue, I still consider this one of the best sets in quite a while. Well designed, solid, with a wonderful structure. I haven't had time to look at the minifigures in detail but from what I've seen until now, they're also quite good. One of TLG most valuable assets it's the active community around their products, I do think users must evaluate and discuss the quality of the products. I totally agree with you DaMaximus! -
The photos show us Smaug' perspective from up there! :p looks great!

Users who have the 10937 Arkham set - Issue with brick built window
mpaisana posted a topic in LEGO Licensed
Hey everyone, I started a thread on the Historic Themes forum about an issue I had with the brick built window on set 79003 An Unexpected Gathering. I contacted Lord of the Bricks owner and he made a post where user FredleDingle said he had the exact same problem with 10937 Arkham Asylum set. Apparently, due to some mould difference on the 6 stud aches (in build bag number 2, on the 79003 set) leads to a wiggling / sliding window, due to the absence of a small salience / bar that fixes the window in place. I'm waiting for a reply from Lego. They told FredleDingle that they would only replace the parts at his expense... Does anyone have some info on this? The arch I (and many other users) should have got is the one in Lego Digital Designer. Both my arches have flat interior surfaces, no salience to fix the window structure. -
Issues with window on set 79003 An Unexpected Gathering, help?
mpaisana replied to mpaisana's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
The "fuss" is paying premium top prices for sets whose material output doesn't even match the instruction manual. I remind you that this is a flagship set, highly anticipated, presented at a world toy fair. I've encountered a flaw, and it is my right to report it to the lego group, and, if possible, realize if other users are experiencing the same thing. I can't see what's wrong about it. This discussion is being made on the proper place, within the terms of this forum. Please don't troll, or at least use logic arguments. -
Users who have the 10937 Arkham set - Issue with brick built window
mpaisana replied to mpaisana's topic in LEGO Licensed
It doesn't bother me that much either. But it's a bit annoying to pay premium price for a product, expecting to try a new technique that doesn't work well with the provided pieces, who don't even match the images on the provided instruction manual - it's not the same piece. This would be far more acceptable on a Mega Bloks toy, that's for sure. -
This set and Attack of the Wargs are the sets I'm more apprehensive about. But again, I thought the same about the Attack of the Mirkwood spiders and I liked it a lot. I'll wait a bit and slash the price some 25% or 30%. Great review Slobey!
