It is okay, I will check Ebay regulary and buy canons as soon as I find a great offer. But until then I can work on other ,actually more important, parts of my ship (will hopefully update the thread soon). Wellesley

These are my two favorites. I think a flag containing more white than orange fits better to the selected torsos. Wellesley

I would keep the official Lego canons, even though you are right according to their size. But I think they create the typical Lego feeling. Something my childhood was based on.^^ So for the lower gun decks I would prefer Lego canons most time, while custom canons fit perfactly on the main deck. Love your staircase. Greetings Wellesley

@Kolonialbeamter: Oh yeah the head rails^^ totally forgot to mention, that I'm still looking for more ideas. This is a hard task, because I wanted to keep it more the old Lego style. But maybe I will try to work with hinges again. I really like the one of the Persephone. I think the bow works like that. But you are right. From a few angles it really looks angular. Thats probably because the yellow stripe, which is just straight in the bow part. So I will first try to change the stripe to get a way more curvier shape. Thanks for the critics, nearly forgot about the head rails at all:P Edit: Just looked at her and suddenly had an idea how to make her stern a little bit lower and thiner. So there hopefully will be more updates soon. Wellesley

[MOC] USS Poseidon - Minifig Scale First Rate Ship of the Line
Wellesley replied to shiplover's topic in Pirate MOCs
Thats still just three gun decks:P The definition of a gun deck is, that you have a continuous battery througout a whole deck. Without any gaps. So the canons astern bunched together don't make a gun deck but are part of the main deck. The only ship with 4 gun decks i know was the spanish Santísima Trinidad (and maybe the USS Pennsylvania) @shiplover But here is another perfectionistic idea:) Maybe a little bit late, because your hull is nearly finished. I think it was said before, but that are just too many canons, even for a first rate:P And according to your ships scale, the gun ports seem to be a little bit tiny. So changing them into 3x3 plates and reduce your firepower down to 120 canons would let your vessel become the most acurate ship building ever. Because only your scale offers the possibility to work on the interior very detailed. Anyways its just a beauty (as long as something that was built for war can be called beautiful) Greetings Wellesley -
My Brickshelf is now public again! For the canons I will probably have to check ebay from time to time.

I love your black coats:) Somewhere I have one of these firefighter torsos, too. Could become a prisoner or ambassador then. A beautiful harbour! Wellesley

This looks very nice. Indeed blue and tan was a good choice. Looks exactly like a mauritanian building. Or a babylonian like the Ishtar Gate. The awning built with the red flags is stunning! Greetings Wellesley!

Finally I got enough time to upload some photos, showing you the current status of my 74 gun lego ship of the line. I'll probably name her "HMS Bulwark", according to her 2 bricks thick hull. Only the rigging is left, which is just a question of new bricks I will have to order. And of course: canons, still need 24 of the old grey canons with brown gun carriage. It's not historically accurate. I wanted two build a lego ship and started building a two gun decks vessel out of my mind. The longer it just stood around without any progress because of missing bricks, I had more time coming up with new ideas and looking at some plans and other ships here in the forum. So it grew from a 44 gun frigate up to a 74 gun ship. The Lego masts were too low, so I had to build my own. The ship is around 92 cm long (125 cm with bowsprit) and 93 cm high (80 cm between the top of the mizzen mast and the main deck) Even though the stern is a little bit too wide and heavy and the astern parts are maybe a bit too high, I like her in this shape and for now there are no more plans to change something. Maybe one of you have some ideas or see something, that just doesn't fit into the overall picture at all. So now, here some new pictures (and some more in my brickshelf): Greetings Wellesley

Maybe you want to try this: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/7/73/Michael_Zeno_Diemer_-_A_frigate_off_the_coast_near_Rio_de_Janeiro,_Brazil.jpg It's my favorite maritime painting from M.Z. Diemer. A frigate near the brazilian coast, even with a similar angle. Greetings Wellesley

Oh wow, what a beautiful job on putting your ship into maritime paintings you have done! I espacially love the one from Michael Zeno Diemer (http://marineoilpaintings.blogspot.de/2011/12/michael-zeno-diemer.html 2nd picture), who was my great-great grandfather. Once my 74 gun lego ship of the line is ready I must try this, too. Great work, Wellesley

[pid][/pid] 147B Here you can see the finished vessel! Here you can read about the progress following this thread. Hi everybody, before ill upload my pictures from building the ship of the line ill first give you some background information. I was a great fan of Lego and history, especially of the Napoleonic war, my whole life. When I was around 13 or 14 I built a frigate with 10 cannons per broadside (got no more cannons). As I found this page here the enthusiasm for Lego ships came back. I took some pictures of the frigate to show you these first, then ill upload the pictures of my current work. I just don’t have enough bricks to finish my work (and had to destroy my frigate), but wanted to share the current situation with you. Would be nice if you could give me some tips on how to make the stern (hate the one of my frigate). -Sorry: photos deleted, I'll fix that as soon as possible- so now the ship of the line the curve i use: -Sorry: photos deleted, I'll fix that as soon as possible- both decks will have a battery with 11 cannons. will probably look like that: -Sorry: photos deleted, I'll fix that as soon as possible- my lower stern and the current model from the side: -Sorry: photos deleted, I'll fix that as soon as possible- Wellesley

Damn it, nearly all my photos are deleted by now. Using a brickshelf account from now on to show you the updates. I changed the number of gun ports per continuous gun deck per side from 13 to 14 New gratings improved cabins, doesn't look too thick anymore and the ship gained more stability http://www.brickshel...ry.cgi?f=527858 Wellesley

Nice to see, that non-prefab-hull ship of the lines became more popular. Doesn't look too heavy, lovely curve. Well done Sir!

Heyho, the forums are full of beautiful Lego ship pictures, but mostly just the ship out of different views or details like rigging or the interior. What I miss a little bit is scenery, like just marine life, like reading of the Articles of War, midshipmen learning how to use the sextant. There are wonderful frigates yet; a few even called the H.M.S Surprise, so why not rebuild some scenes from Master and Commander. I would appreciate some pictures. Wellesley

Hi, thanks for the replies exactly, i like stuff like the ToR series aswell, but was searching for some pictures like the one Sebeus posted:) Now i'll check "the Beauty" And here two scenes from my old frigate: greetings Wellesley

Insane how much effort you put in the interior and little details like the captain's cabin, the ship bell etc. Would it be ok, if i steal the idea of the ship painting in the cabin? :P Wellesley

Its a very beautiful ship! But i think the biggest ship class for prefab hulls is a frigate. With two gun decks it could look a little bit clumsy. But actually you did a great job on it and i think the height of the masts solved this problem (you can see it on the third and fourth pic). Wellesley

Found a photo on my computer including some changes: Both done...even though the yellow stripes just got a slight curvature. Still inactive, did this in march. Edit: The part with the mizzen mast isn't at its actual position.

Sure, sorry

These carronades are nice, maybe I'll use some of them on my ship of the line. Good job Admiral Bejaune!
