    Minifigures Series 8 Guessing Game

The only one I got right was Pirate Captain, yay, I suck! But but but, I did guess Santa's Elf but we're getting a proper Santa so that should be awesome I look forward to seeing how the Fairy is executed, and if the Robot and Skier are both female.

    Aussie Rules Football Discussion

Any other AFOL's also fans of Aussie Rules? I got in trouble for discussing it in another thread and was told to come here, which is fine by me as I can talk about the game until I'm black and blue red. This weekend my team (Essendon Bombers, second on the ladder) played the Sydney Swans (4th on the ladder) - Bombers played shockingly all through the 1st, 2nd and 3rd quarters, spent about an hour without kicking a goal *forced laugh* - then as we went into the final quarter, we were 47 points behind, and holy moses, how on earth we managed to turn that around into a 4pt defecit is beyond me, but we somehow turned it on and within 2sec of the final siren one of our players caught the ball (meaning he would get a set shot for goal- for anyone who doesn't know the game) but as he caught it he played on and the umpire called play-on right as the siren went meaning we lost by 4pts, but hey, to kick 43pts in 20 mins of football is an achievement, and if we hadn't kicked 100pts in 20mins last year I'd suggest it was our greatest quarter ever - well, it would have to be by sheer competitiveness as Sydney had switched it on but were tiring out. Either way, I've ended up busting a nut in panic and stress, sweating and almost in tears as the clock ticked down and even though we lost, and even though it was only 4 pts (our only other losses this year were by 1pt and 6pts) because the players can't see the clock, he didn't know how long he had so it was just a simple mistake, but for that 20mins of play, we were on fire and it was awesome, I kept my son awake because of my screaming at the TV lol... and I can't help but think THIS is why I watch, ya know? Even though we lost, it was that raw excitement and emotion that comes with these heart-stopping matches. Essendon has a long history of letting a game slip away early on but then coming back to win it by a point or two, it really would've been lovely to have that happen again (would've been 2pts had he kicked a goal) but hey, can't change the clock. Essendon are now 3rd and Sydney are top of the ladder. This needs to change. I'm a sore loser and won't stand for it. Anyone not know the sport? I would be more than happy to introduce you! Those who do know it, what are your best footy memories?
  3. Down under we have a unique sport; Australian Rules Football, so I've started a MOC project to translate some of that into LEGO. I've started off with some basic Collectible Minifigures which I've put up on Cuusoo - http://lego.cuusoo.com/ideas/view/17609 I've started experimenting with making a mini MCG MOC (Melbourne Cricket Ground) but my knowledge is very limited with LEGO, in fact, when you see me with it I'm like a 4 year old lol... bloody hopeless... But as I buy more sets and build them I'm slowly learning so will post the MCG on here as soon as I get going with it... But onto the Minifigures, I thought since Aussie Rules is unique to Australia (albeit many, many leagues of it around the world) but the main professional league has only 18 teams, the CMF's have 16 MFs, for a 4x4 layout on the sheet, so I added 2 more (Umpires) for a 5x4 layout instead. As Cuusoo is about our Lego wishes, it doesn't matter if this idea is impossible to achieve (nothing is impossible with LEGO) but it is well worth a shot to try to get a unique collectible series to Australia. Why Aussie Rules Footy/AFL Teams and not the more widely known NFL? Well, for starters, as I say, there are only a small amount of teams in the AFL so the impact of quantity is lessened, but also because the rules/league of Aussie Rules (at the time it was the VFL for Victorian Football League) they were officiated before any other football code which is a somewhat little known fact about the sport. It's immensely popular in Australia, albeit not everyone likes it as with every sport/movie/music etc., but it is OUR code, our one true sporting invention and I think it would be fabulous to honour the past 150-160 years with a small series of Minifigures. This is an example of it for those unfamiliar with it - showcasing the rules and some best bits - As I say, I'm going to expand the theme beyond the initial CMF minifigures, and whilst I can make a little Gym, with a cute little punching bag, what other ideas are there for Footy related sets? So far I have; 1. Collectible Minifigures, designed clothing/faces 2. MCG MOC, brainstorming 3. Training Gymnasium, built a few little pieces 4. The Footy Show Set, drawn up rough ideas for set complete with Sammy Newman Minifig haha There's over 150 years of history to choose from haha Really hope you can vote to support this project, even if you don't know or even if you dislike the sport- not everything is everyone's cup of tea obviously, this would just be a fantastic toy for children and a great collectible for Adults fans of both Lego and Football. Edit; oh, and GO BOMBERS!!!

    The CMF collector's problem

A couple of weeks ago I collected the final Series 3 figure - the indian chief - I had bought them all off E-Bay as random packets, for no more than $4 each, sometimes it was 3, I was actually really surprised (and really bloody happy) That I managed to get 14 out of 16 as mystery bags and only needed to order the Mummy and Indian separately - and for cheaper than an individual mystery bag, so Series 3, a year after it's release, I was able to collect all of them with only about 12/13 doubles - (1 extra fisherman, 4 samurais (so not complaining about that), an extra snowboarder, an extra mummy (I bought 2 when I bought the first so it's not really counted), 3 extra Elves, 1 extra Tennis Player, an extra Dancing girl/Islander girl and finally, one extra Rapper... So in hind sight, series 3 = really lucky for me! As for the rest, haha! Well, I managed to get Series 4 - but had to order the Ice Skater online and also got about 23 doubles lol And to be honest, the rest I got tired of getting so many spares that I've started buying them on ebay identified - but still will buy a few mystery ones when I'm doing a Lego haul lol - The whole point of it is the fun of not knowing what we're getting so I still like to get at least 3 every week. As for series 1 and 2, well, I have to get them identified, but I highly doubt I'll be able to afford one of the zombies, bugger! Anyways, all your mathematics hurt my head lol But I'm 70% stupid.

I come from a land down under

Hi, my name is Az, I'm very new to the Lego community :) Well, by that I mean I played with it lots as a kid from about 1989 until 1997, then went to high school and pretty much stopped. Now I have a son, I'm collecting sets/figures for him for when he's 4 or 5 years old, so I can give him a huge bag of LEGO like the one I had as a kid, but I may have gone a little over board haha Anyways, that's my story and why I'm here, because the kid I'm buying the bricks for is only 2 atm lol G'day all :)

    Minifigures Series 8 Guessing Game

Instead of doing another list of series 8, I'm gonig to do a list of which Animal/Animal suit figs I predict AND hope we'll get... a mixture of wishes and guesses. 1. Pantomime Horse Guy 2. Shark Girl 3. Sheep-ish Dude 4. Snake Suit Girl (they have some moulds from Ninjago already) 5. Bear Suit Guy 6. Lion or Tiger Gal 7. Unicorn Suit Girl 8. Lobster Suit Guy (it would be funny and Lego have a wicked sense of humour) 9. Dog Suit Guy 10. Butterfly Suit Girl 11. Donkey Dude 12. Girl with the Dragon Tattoo Costume. I put a couple of mythical creatures in there many of the CMF's have got partners, or trios/groups already (indian chief with indian hunter or skier, snowboarder, snowboarding guy) and at the moment, bar the elves (which can fit into LOTR with tan faces/hands) the Minotaur so far has no partner so a Unicorn and Dragon would be cute and fun. Dragon could be easily done- modifying the Lizard Suit Guy's tail to include some small wings, and modify his head to be more curved and dragonesque. The panto horse/unicorn can be an upstanding person in a suit or even with a 2x4 base with 4 legs - and no arms (has there ever been an armless minifigure torso?) - I can picture it quite clearly but would have to draw it up to describe it properly lol

    Minifigures Series 8 Guessing Game

I got the idea from Luna Lovegood from HP with her Gryffindor Lion-head-dress-thingy. Overall I really love that they've included a few animals, Even the Minotaur which I reckon can be put in a MOC paddock as Bison haha. Gorilla suit guy is great for Zoological MOCs but Lizard Suit Guy is more Dinosaur than Lizard but can still be a giant goanna or something haha. all you need to do is put the Small Clown's head with the Bunny Suit Guy and even he can be a proper Animal... and with the smaller actual Animals in the sets, one can have a complete Zoo, so it really just needed a Big Cat. I wanna do another guessing list, or is that cheating? I just had a bit of fun making the first haha

    Minifigures Series 8 Guessing Game

oops, I was very tired when I did this haha, even on my hand written list there's two lady robots lol *smacks head* I thought nothing was impossible with Lego? ^_^ Don't worry, I didn't put Nun as some sort of religious agenda, can just picture how the minifigure would look so thought it was worth a guess :) I would also love a Buddhist Monk one, that would be too cute in LEGO.

    Ideas for New Action Themes

Yeah I noticed the collecting things with Atlantis and Monster Fighters so adapted it to this idea. I do have a set built, well, half of one, it's finding the inspiration for how to finish it, either way it's the Femme Force HQ so the main set of the proposed series. As for the minifigs- I did just swap torso around, though more so what I did was I wrote down a list of 8 names - 100 points to whomever guesses the anagram their first letters make) - then I laid out all my pieces and put them together to what matches the name which I know sounds weird, but I think I did great with Pauline haha - But more so it's because I have limited pieces to use, but with your feedback I am going to update the project and cross my fingers it gets a vote of support! Even then, LEGO would change the designs anyway so my main focus should be the meat- the storyline :s eek, I dunno, I'm hopeless at Lego.

    Cars Licensed Lego Sets

I enjoyed building the cars, I've said it a few times, but when the meat of a set (the structure) is lacking and feels.... empty, it makes me wonder if the cars should've been in 15 pieces or just 4 to allow more meat to go into the sets. I get what you mean about the building experience and yeah, with the cars it was fun, but I know I'm not alone in thinking the sets are fairly hollow and uninspired and ultimately look a lot smaller than other sets with the same amount of pieces. And since I'm in my lego revival I have no frame of reference on any other themes pre 2010 :)

    Cars Licensed Lego Sets

We only have two Cars sets- both from Cars 2- one is the Duplo Tow Mater with the target and cannon... and the Big Bentley set- The Big Bentley was bought for $70 in Australia, which is bloody BRILLLLIANT for aussie prices, BUT, are the Cars sets worthy? There are no minifigs, instead they have exquisite printed pieces for the Cars characters, and whilst they're not technically minifigs, I consider them to be so since Children would be moving them around as the Play Feature like they would a MF. The main problem I have with the Car MF's... wait, no, MV's (mini vehicles, sorry if I sotle that off anyone) - The main problem is that they take up so many pieces to make them and I feel that this 700+ Big Bentley could have been ... a bit more... hmm... Well, firstly, they could have put a little more into the actual structure, although, having said that it is really cool- there's a rope/pully for pulling up Tow Mater, a little spy section, a sliding door (I'd been trying to work out how to make a brick-built sliding door and because I'm stupid I hadn't yet figured it out! Turns out there's a plate piece specifically for it, go figure!) Anyways, there's a few features, but the structure itself feels a little... hollow. Like it could've used another wall or two just to close it off a little, but I guess that's not LEGO's deal. But back to the MV's, I did enjoy building them though, it's not so much a complaint as it is a "I would've done it differently" and designed the Cars to be in 5/6 pieces instead. This Big Bentley has around 7 Cars (AWEsome selection including the bloomin' Queen of England! Aww SNAP!) And all I would need to do is get Flo's V8 Cafe and I would be able to get prety much every Cars character in two swoops. Awesome! Some of the other smaller sets though seem to suffer from the amount of pieces used in the MVs, they would be trying to keep the pce count/price down so there's a selection of small sets, but that means that the actual structure is smaller and ultimately doesn't seem worth the price. Anyways, I just wanted to give my thoughts on the Cars range as I'm unsure how excited people are for them. The MV bonnets and boots (trunks for americans) have specially designed pieces to make them look like real Cars, I'm sure Lego enthusiasts wouldn't like that as it's not exactly brick-built, but for people like me who are hopeless with them, it's great! Only thing is I wish they had've printed the mouths on separate bricks which fit in under them, that way they could be used for more MOCs.

    Ideas for New Action Themes

there ya go- I guess naming doesn't really matter when there's The Avengers with Emma Peel and The Avengers with Nick Fury haha. Either way it still has 0 votes so it won't ever be reviewed, doesn't matter I have 14 other projects on there #obsessedmuch?

    Themes you regret not getting

During my Lego years (89 to 97) we had a huge bag of bricks, I vaguely recall some instruction booklets in there, but there was no boxes and I couldn't say what sets where in there, so I don't really have any experience with the 80s/90s sets, I know NOW what existed, but back then I just had my huge bag and that was enough to build with haha More so nowadays I regret not having any sets or themes as it would be nice to not be such an outsider in the AFOL community haha

Let's share our funny interesting photos!

thanks, I love the Gaga too, the majority of the pieces used were from the CMF's, I figured if I started a new thread it'd just get moved here anyways so thought I'd get the head start haha the non CMF pieces I used were a Friends hair (Andrea), Bellatix Lestrange's Hair, Voldemort's torso and hand, the Road Construction minifig and a City policeman. And of course the background set but that's not the meat of the photo haha

    [rant] LEGO sets missing minifigs

This makes me feel ill - Defintely tell both stores, this is a security/police matter and it will put both stores on alert that someone is doing it, then, next time they do it at one of those stores, they will know to check, sorry it happened to you :( people are pigs sometimes :(
