UPDATE My bricklink order came through. Here is what she looks like near complete. As you can see it looks like what I proposed in the first post. I am still a little unhappy with the distance of the masts. But in truth I am just in love my first real MOC ship. The back sail looks much better in real life than I had expected. You will also note I moved it to the back of the ship rather than at the wheel. It is a much better distance back there, though not sure about historical accuracy... The size fits perfectly between the CC and BSB! You also note that the two front sails have a similar distance between them as the Imperial Flagship There is a small order still waiting till she is done. I also need to figure out how to get the blue windows with the lattice work. :/ I ordered train windows that don't have the "snap in holes" the others have over hanging bits not able to go with the bricks around the window. When it is done, I will post it up in a new thread and give you a back story, description and name, Hope you enjoy the teaser. I promised she was coming in real bricks! The ship with the red and white sails looks to be about the right size and shape of Brickbeard's Bounty. It is obviously a computer generated graphic. The crows nest however is interesting. I am with Phes though, I am a little over the red and white sails. Hoped the 10210 Imperial flagship put an end to that. It is however a "signature" feature of pirate Lego. In the past when we see things like this we have hardly been disappointed but I am still wanting to remain "reserved" so not crushed if the ship isn't real. Does ReBrick have any good ties with Lego? I notice you can use Lego IDs to sign in. AB

Hmm don't set full sail just yet. As seen here, The Legoland's are revamping some sections. This could be a ship not in a normal set or release but a model in a park and "souvenir polybag sets". I really, really, really do however hope I am wrong! AB

I would just use the black clips you have on the deck (the ones you might be swapping for the horizontals) to hold the brown bars. Again however just a humble suggestion, its looking great! AB

Ship looks like it is in great condition. Bummer it has missing sails though, they can be worth up to 33% of the ships worth! (when sold individually). A few things I noticed that I haven't before thanks to your photos. (I hadn't given much thought to 6289, preferring 6286 and 6285). 1 - the 4th cannon area toward the rear. 2 - the front ratlines are "hanging at the bottom!" I think your white bricks are in a good condition compared to what I had expected. I have many worse bricks in my Eldorado Fortress - Although they add a charm to it like nothing else! AB

I think Sebeus is saying the bucket wasn't historically accurate not your ship. ;) And what a beautiful ship it is too. I am always amazed at how long these creations can take, spanning months and even years. Must feel very good to have it getting close to finished. My only humble suggestion is to maybe replace the black tiles on the side with clips and brown light sabre pieces? AB

Interesting his pictures were there recently. Weird that a set from 1996 could have aged so much in box. I am guessing by the fact is not complete it saw some play and display? Most of my 1989 stuff is "dulled" and not sparkling white like new sets. But IMHO it adds to the nostalgia of the set. So short answer to your question, the bricks are old, Lego does change some colouring between modern and old. If you buy new to replace it will be bright brilliant white. As for reversing the age. I don't know of any anti-aging cremes for Lego AB

No, it wasn't me, but well done finding some cheap hull pieces. I only buy on there don't sell. If you have any pirate sets or imperial soldiers to sell I am happy to be your local buyer. Also might be worth looking into an event coming up in May called Bricktopia (by Southern Bricks who are associated with the Birdwood Museum.) PS if you were looking into those lone ranger sets Myer Adelaide had 3 left and they currently have buy 1 set get one 50% off. (until the 30th). I second this! After the pain of trying to get my LDD ship into real bricks and managing 3 different orders! EDIT found this!

Set 10040 were sold in Australia we only got shooting cannons. Plus when in doubt I check BrickLink category entries. AB

Beautiful ship! Being a South Australian Lego Pirate fan, I can fully appreciate your story behind the colouring. I just bought the Imperial Flagship this year myself on eBay (around $350) I regret nothing, The parts you get, and the build itself is amazing. However I think if your ship were available it would quickly out sell it! For getting parts I assume you know of bricklink.com? It is one of the cheapest places to get Lego bricks. (Much less than local stores (assuming from SA)) I tried to find an old post somewhere on these forums with a brilliant display base. It was like the "giant chess set" but used a lot of 2x2x3 black slopes. I think a base built higher will look really really good with yours ship. If you find a sale on at Myer any time soon they still have some lone ranger sets. If you get the cavalry set it also comes with a cannon and a fair amount of wood bricks you'll probably use in this. Great build and I wish you the best making it real bricks. AB

Entry 4 - 3 points Entry 7 - 2 points Entry 3 - 1 point Well done to all who submitted a creation, I loved them all. There can only be one winner in the end. I voted not on just the beauty of the creation but how much I felt a "Lego designer" would have made the set. That to me is what sets Entry 4 apart from the others. I could see a Lego designer sitting on youtube describing the play features and revealing the how the two sets join. Entry 7 was second because it was like the 1980's Lego and seems to have a great balance of playability and "cosmetics". Entry 3. That ship. That fortress. It took me into a Lego version of AC-Black Flag. Amazing. Honourable mentions. Entry 6 for creativity and story. Entry 5 for best use of bricks. AB

I will be attending a Lego event in Adelaide Australia soon as in exhibitor (It is early May, so some time away). It might be possible to get some surveys circulated. I would need to organise this with the co-ordinator of the event and we would also need a much better idea of our process.

I have noticed this on a few sets for sale on ebay. I am going to guess this was due to geographical sale? Where English isn't the first Language? Where did you buy the set from? AB

I could have sworn I replied to this last night! Must have closed the window and not clicked post! I am using black handrails if it doesn't look right in real bricks it won't be too hard to change. Now this stern. I like your amendments Kolonialbeamter, seeing your example it was a clear mistake to have the slopes interrupt the straight line of the stern. Thank you for taking the time and improving the design so much! I also like the simple solution to the skylight, however I do prefer three windows over four or two. I see why you have removed the white from the body, however it is something I want to keep. The main reason I started the project was how nice the blue shutters look with the white frames (I took these designs from the BSB). Keeping the white however means I need to "splash it around" a little more and I think I have a solution with the stern. (I also feel it too much of a block of yellow). I also added in some more blue (the slopes above the cabin) I prefer it to the yellow. I think you may have changed the lanterns to blue in a SES style as the stern was very yellow, I still however prefer the black. The addition of the guns to the bow was a brilliant idea, exactly what it was missing thank you! I am deleting the attached file in the earlier post (for attachment space management) and attaching the new one here. A small issue I am facing is I built the cabin in MlCad, and the rear is not lining up with the proper hull piece. A small issue but changes my parts order around a little. This is getting close now to me committing to real bricks. I will need it done by May. As I have been accepted as an exhibitor in one of South Australia's Lego users exhibitions! ABBoat5.lxf

I had been thinking today how the underwater "raised island" plate is underused in pirate mocs. As a kid I painted a classic space baseplate into an island. Luckily the paint was not stubborn in coming of in later years, although it still slightly smells of the mentholated spirits I used to get it off! I really like the small details in the creation. Great use of SNOT techniques. Great job, a beautiful creation with a great play story as well! AB
