    Bionicle 2016 Sets Discussion

I'm guessing the shim guard looks unappealing on Gali because her upper leg bone is shorter than the ones in the Star Wars figures: they tend to have an extra module between the middle balljoint and the knee. So using a longer bone piece or a shorter armor piece (preferably the former) would help. It'll be interesting to see how MOCers make use of the shin guard.

As long as something like that is introduced with new bones instead of replacement bones, that would be interesting/cool. Though I wonder how useful that would be. If current bones can support that for the Star Wars figures, do we need new bones for it at all?

    Star Wars Constraction 2015 Discussion

Fair enough. Never been excited about the printing, I know it adds to Vader but it makes the piece less versatile for MOCing. We'll see though. Oh, if I could but understand French... Interesting build though. These guys are gonna be tall.

    Star Wars Constraction 2015 Discussion

The arms definitely look like they have 8M shells to me, yeah. Either way Darth Vader is pretty huge. Not tall compared to Grievous, perhaps, but huge.
  5. I've been wanting to recreate Generation 1 characters in CCBS for a while. The main problem was that I wanted to use the old Mata heads (so I could fit both old masks and krana), but conventional methods of attaching said head to a CCBS torso looked ridiculous. Solution? Build a new torso. First up is Bingzak Kongu, displaying the Matoran build: I partially used the Mask of Light movie as a guide when building these; it mostly influences the neck and the shape of the arms. Full skeleton in the first picture. The second shows where the chest plate attachment and neck socket fit. The black bracket piece doesn't connect to the socket directly but it keeps it from jiggling around much. Can't say I care for the back much, but it's not an eyesore. Next up is Narmoto Vakama with the Turaga build: The Turaga are a bit more broad and wide than the Matoran to accommodate the sockets for the legs. Vakama features his stole from Mask of Light. Full skeleton along with a better shot of how the front and neck joint connect to the rest of the torso, similar to the Matoran build. Shot of the back. This is the biggest problem with the Turaga build: it's very boxy. Adding the stole (connected by the four exposed studs) helps somewhat. The light bley pieces will be changed to black once I get ahold of some. "Back! Back you foul creature! One more step or I'll--" (Wrong villain, I know, but ssshhh. ) You can really see how the back sticks out here. Again, not a fan, but I don't currently have a solution. Bonus: Turaga Korgot Whenua! Giving him his hunch was as easy as connecting the neck to the back of the head instead of the eyestalk. He needs Dark Bluish Gray hands but those will have to wait until I get some. Thanks for looking! Comments and critiques are highly appreciated.

[MOC] CCBS Matoran/Turaga with Mata Heads

Thanks! I would prefer tiles too, but the back of the stole is a 4x6 plate held on by two studs. Difficult to do that with tiles, unfortunately. Certainly a clever idea, though I'm a purist and wouldn't dream of cutting parts to achieve such ends.

I want to say $35, but that number is off the top of my head. Seems fairly reasonable for a figure as large as he is.

Hilarious (and vintage) article about BIONICLE

I say "live and let live" when it comes to this kind of stuff. The author's opinions on BIONICLE were short-sighted, perhaps, but hindsight is 20/20. And I would definitely say he was wrong about the "juniorization" of the line; the Toa Kaita models already encouraged consumers to experiment with the "5 or 6" ( ) pieces of each set and make their own models. But if he wants to say the sets were <insert that tiresome argument> (despite the Rahi), he certainly can.

Ok, that Grievous box art has 100% convinced me I need him. If not for display, definitely for parts (I lack a lot of the longer bone pieces so he's a fantastic snatch). I'l probably get Jango. Vader, maybe. Would get Cody but I think I'll wait for the First Order trooper.
  10. Shoulders are really wide but still well-executed. Color balance is good too. Like it overall.

I'm actually ok with us not getting new mask molds (assuming the leak is real of course). Gives TLG money to make other new parts. And it's a guarantee that we won't get ugly mask molds...

I doubt that last part, but you know what? I certainly wouldn't mind at all. Would be reminiscent of sets of old (like the Rahi) that had alternate builds right out of the box. Speaking of which: I'm guessing that since the creatures are called such in the set names, they won't be called Rahi this time around. You never know though.

Thanks! The simplicity was part of the goal, so I'm glad it worked.

    Luxael

I think there's too much gold on this, but that's my only issue with the build. It's a nice model otherwise. Again, that sword in particular is great.

    Creeps from the Deep

These are really fantastic. True to the original sets but with more character. Takadox looks too tall, though I suspect it's only because his limbs are so spindly, not because he actually has too much height.
  16. Really love these. Kalmah especially surprises me due to how few shells exist in dark red, yet how well you pulled him off... The only one that bothers me is Carapar; he's just a bit too wide for my liking. A well done model as the others, just feels a bit off. Not much you could have done, given the size of the large torso piece.

Yes. The damaged armor piece from the skullies seemed difficult to use early on but I'm really coming to like it. More from Umarak (maybe even a new one?) would be welcome. Obviously the Toa will be different this time around, but I doubt we'll see a Nuva-type upgrade. The Toa Mata were upgraded to the Nuva by receiving new weapons, masks, and armor. While the Toa Okoto will likely be getting new masks and weapons, the armor is difficult to pull off because they all had armor to begin with. And adding more would make them too cluttered. I'm honestly just expecting new designs. But we'll see. Hopefully soon.

    Bionicle 2016 Sets Discussion

It occurs to me that if TLG wants to do what they did with HF and keep the same main characters the entire line, the Toa's masks may all keep some level of sameness to their first ones. Too many differences would making it difficult for someone not in the lore to see they are the same characters (adaptive armor masks, anyone?).

    Bionicle 2016 Sets Discussion

I'm 99% sure these are first-wave set names. Not sure why every one thinks we're getting leaks of sets that will arrive a year from now. The leak confirming BIONICLE's return was incredibly early and still six months before release, no where close to a year.

Kopaka XL, anyone? EDIT: Kapura'd by TheOneVeyronian on that one. Glad to see Umarak is not, in fact, Ekimu. New characters are welcome.

My immediate guesses are 1) silver recolors of their currents masks, or more likely 2) completely new masks that still share some resemblance to their 2015 masks. I don't see Nuva masks being redone; the resemblance to the Mata masks was a throwback to the old BIONICLE and helped recreate the 2001-ish atmosphere. But, especially given that the skullies are nothing like anything we saw in Gen 1, I'm guessing it's new stuff from here on out.

    Bionicle 2015 Discussion

Get out. (Only kidding ) I'm really hoping that when Makuta is eventually released, they build him as a Witch Doctor-scale titan or so. That would more than make up for few to no "titan" sets up to that point (though the larger Toa could qualify as titans, curse loose definitions). Also, found the skullies in a US official store today. Picked up MMvsSG. Kulta's about what I expected; will be modding him with LoSS's pieces. Ekimu's fairly chunky, almost too much so. It'd be easier to spread out his bulk on a larger figure, but it's a big too much for the protector body. Not complaining though, still like both of them.

    Bionicle 2015 Discussion

+1 for misspelling. It's just seems most likely, plus I doubt TLG would create a race called the "Tor" (which we wouldn't have even heard of yet) because it already sounds/is too close in spelling to "Toa." Somehow the idea that the Protectors are selling better than the Toa isn't surprising. Not only less expensive, but their unique builds give them each different personalities. Which is funny in a way; early Gen 1 sets relied on unique masks for identities because they shared the same builds. Gen 2 is the opposite of this (bar the Toa, which have unique builds AND masks).

    Original Bionicle vs CCBS discussion

If CCBS had primarily Technic attachment points, then it wouldn't even be its own subset. It would just be Technic, pure and simple. CCBS is designed for both simple and complex builds all on its own as well as builds that use both it and Technic parts. It would be easier to argue your point if CCBS pieces had no pinholes, but the fact is that some do, and it's enough to allow more than just basic Technic integration. I know many people don't care for the CCBS aesthetic and build style (the one TLG presents anyway). But saying that it "doesn't allow for creative thinking" as much as the old system, I think, goes too far. Great MOCs have been built with each and both, I see no reason to bash one and praise the other.
