My own one word review: "Meh" Excellent idea, I remember one guy posted pics of two Helm's Deep sets linked together to form one large enclosed castle, but I can't find it now.

41999 from shop.lego.com - problems, concerns, questions, answers

... Mr Fedex brought me something nice this fine morning :cry_happy: (for reference: ordered Aug. 1st 7:30 AM) -
I strongly disagree here. The Helm's Deep set from last year has a better piece/price ratio, more basic bricks and less specialized pieces than the preceding generic castle from Kingdoms. Nothing stops kids from rebuilding Helm's Deep into a generic castle and have the uruk hais as the defenders! There's nothing preventing kids to use licensed sets and use them in any which way they want. Superman can wear the One Ring and chill in Olivia's bed room with Darth Vader while she serves them cupcakes. There's no "wrong" way to play or build.

There is a way to keep all the boxes and save quite a lot of space without flattening them. Just fill the larger boxes with smaller boxes -

Finally got an email that it was shipped! (I ordered aug.1st at 7:30 AM) -
I got back into Lego as an adult in 2002, so it's very hard for me to remember. I remember the name being thrown around more and more on Lugnet as that site got more and more stubborningly stuck in its ways. Then all the reviews on Brickset started linking to here. I'm amazed it took me this long to register - maybe because for a long time, I thought EB was german language only.

What has happened with re-sellers just now has been the bane of concert movie goers for 15 years: eBay ticket scalpers, so I'm not too surprised this happened. 20000 is nothing - some big arena concerts I went to hold almost as much and for some of more popular acts, (Iron Maiden, Rammstein) sold out in a few hours - for one city. The 20000 sets we get is worldwide! And yes, Lego re-sellers and ticket scalpers are the same thing. That's why I stopped watching Brickshow on youtube since they freely admit to buying in big quantities (especially limited polybags) in the hope of making a profit later. But this time it's MUCH WORSE than usual. Usually, people have ample opportunity to buy the Lego sets they want at MSRP. As long as you're not in your dark ages when it's for sale, you shoud be fine, even for sets which were sold for a notoriously short time such as the 8275 bulldozer. This time the window of opportunity was drastically reduced.. BECAUSE of scalpers. -
Here is an interesting article on the subject. It treats Canada vs US but this applies to Europe, too. Retailers say, blame the suppliers (which in our case it would be Lego) http://thechronicleherald.ca/business/90009-why-is-stuff-cheaper-in-us-blame-suppliers-retailers-say

The 8865 is one of my favorites of all time. To this day, still boasts the best suspension of ANY technic set, even 8880.It's one of these sets I looked at in catalogs as a kid, yet was beyond my reach, but bought it as an AFOL. I also love the blue header, acknowledging 90s motors and pneumatics. Probably from the box of 8868. Please don't ever change it. Thanks. -

It doesn't improve my mood. I ordered before you, in that morning at 7:30, with a long history of orders, and still backordered. In which country do you live? EDIT: august 22nd - gotta be europe since it says aug 17 for north america. RE-EDIT: I said north america assuming to include canada, USA and mexico, but just now I found out Mexico is not longer a country you can select. How long has that been the case? I feel sorry for Mexican fans - doesn't Lego have a factory there? -
The one Technic Set you wish you had gotten
SheepEater replied to FuzzyBallz's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
You ain't missing much. It sucks. The only reason I still have it is that I'm somewhat of a 90s technic completionist. -
 Their international headquarters is in Montreal, QC Canada and I personally put the blame on them for NO Lego Stores at all in my province. When I lived in Montreal, I went to their warehouse once on my bicycle. Circled the entire area. Could have entered their shipping area easily if I wanted, there were no fences or security guards around.

I don't see how a well designed, sturdy brick built creature isn't any less playable than a molded one. Look at Shelob.

Ugh!! In one single article she reiterated the large majority of ALL annoying sayings we listed on this thread, with the obligatory "stepping on bricks". I like how most of the reader responses demolish this ignorant dummy's piece of crap article.

Wanting to start a Technic Collectioni
SheepEater replied to nicoga3000's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I strongly disagree. I own the vast majority of technic sets produced between 1978 and 2010, plus a good bunch of the better recent ones. The 8258 is "meh" for a few reasons: - LAs instead of pneumatics. Plus, the LAs you might get from the set are of the older type, before they got improved in the 8043 reissue, after the recalls. - The outriggers are only partially motorized. After the outriggers are out, you need to deploy each feet by hand! What was the point of using a motor then if you're just going to use manually operated gears anyway? - The crane's winch, AND the crane extender, are manually operated. What's the point of having a motor to rotate and move the crane arm if you're going to use your hands anyway? I actually prefer 8285's alternate model to 8258's main model. The 8285 B model not only has a crane, but an interesting way the trailer is attached to the truck, via pneumatics. -

If LEGO is not sure that they can fulfill all orders that were already placed, then why does it still say USA & Canada "Out of stock, expected ship date 16 Aug 2013" Europe, Australia: Out of stock, expected ship date 22 Aug 2013 With all of them being available to add it to their shopping cart? -

SheepEater replied to rm8's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
It says out of stock but I think you can still add it to your shopping bag. My story: I planned on placing my order last midnight. But the website experienced some heavy problems and long delays (there was a red error message acknowledging it). It also charged me for shipping, and tripled my taxes when it shouldn't. So I said, screw that, I'm waiting for the morning. So this morning (7h30, Eastern time) I placed an order without a hitch. But a few hours later I got an email that said it was out of stock and would ship later than expected. (But my order wasn't under verification or anything of the sort that happens when Lego gets suspicious) Assuming everything is fair and it's first come first serve basis, what are the odds of me getting my set? Can someone please reassure me -
I'd prefer it in the style of the 10193 Medieval Market Village.
