LEGO - God Knows What Vehicle
SheepEater replied to selfshot's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I love it when people make City/Technic hybrid MOCs -
There is no doubt now that Orthanc is doing great in sales. Toys R Us now carry it on their website (both USA and Canada) when it was supposed to be an exclusive to Lego.com. There is NO DOUBT that TRU negociated with Lego once they saw how much of a winner it is, and the real must-have of the second wave (and I'd say, of the whole theme so far). This is very good news for us who are hoping for more huge LOTR sets.

Great MOCs, why don't you get her to create an Eurobricks account so she can post her MOCs herself?
-
I agree and would love to get a Balrog set obviously, but you know there will always be a very vocal minority trying to create controversy by trying to paint Lego as demonic children's toy.

Assuming this list is legit I'm hopeful for the inclusion of these characters: 1) Galadriel 2) Witch King 3) Eowyn 4) Faramir (in Osgiliath set) 5) Gothmog, the Orc general. No Aragorn, Legolas or Gimli - good, we already have enough of them. If this concludes the LOTR theme, then very few characters will have been missed. Old Bilbo - Can do without, his younger self got a whole theme named after him Balrog - I suspect this is to avoid any criticism/boycott from overtly religious people. Remember Jabba's Palace? Denethor - he's neither a clear cut hero or villain, and his character arc is too dark for kids. Treebeard - he'll be missed but you can always mod the Ent in Orthanc to more closely resemble him Celeborn- well, you can always pretend Haldir is him...close enough for me

If this is legit, the ranger in Osgiliath has to be Faramir.

In all themes (Town, Technic especially) I see lot of people complaining about breaking their strings used in cranes, winches, etc Well, I came up with my solution 10 years ago. Just go to a big name fabric store (Rossy in Montreal is perfect). You'll find rope in the exact same quality & thickness Lego is using, for very cheap. But it probably won't be black (My store only had light tan at the time). So I went to buy some black dye. They sell those in small black boxes and are very cheap. Pour the contents in hot water, simmer the rope for a few hours. Voila, a lifetime of black Lego rope! And I am still not even close of using up my original batch made in 2002 that I tainted myself. And it's still black as ever. So for those looking for those ultra long ropes from set 8288 - crawler crane, don't pay those ridiculous prices on bricklink - the ropes you taint yourself end up identical!

The Black Gate of Mordor (expanded set)
SheepEater replied to Karlson's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
I don't recommend buying it twice at full price. You can easily find it without animals and minifigs for around 30$, if you don't wanna bother selling the extra figs on bricklink. I didn't want a 2nd eagle, since I already got the one from orthanc. You DO want the orcs, though. -
are the only things missing in this set, and will be substituted really quickly when I get it. Don't get me wrong, I love the classic smiley faces as much as anybody, but they feel at home in the 80s.

The Black Gate of Mordor (expanded set)

Here is this setup In real life. -
I suspect Tauriel will die at the battle of five armies. You heard it here first!
-
I'd say bring on a large $500 Minas Tirith set! Even if it replaces an entire wave :excited:
-
I was there when the café corner came out and never regretted passing on it - IMHO it's extremely overrated, it's just a boring, big empty box compared to what came after it. I got the Green Grocer and love it, but its 2nd and 3rd floors were mostly empty. This one is filled to the brim with details!
-
To this day, the Green Grocer is the only modular I own because it made me go "wow. I gotta buy this one" upon seeing it. That one may be my 2nd. a big LOL at the guy proposing to his girlfriend with The One Ring to rule them all! A kneeling minifig, I think this hasn't been done since that set I got as a kid!
-
Hey! Is that the new restaurant modular? It looks awesome So do the scooter, btw

Does it bother you that every single female minifig face (that isn't the generic classic smiley) has lipstick in one way or another? I have seen a girl on youtube complain about that, actually. I can't find it anymore though so I can't provide a link to it. What about the painted-on hourglass shape on torsos? Me, it doesn't bother me (of course) but I was curious.

[Castle] What do you like best? Generic or Specific?

Specific... as long as specific stands for Lord of the Rings. -
The Black Gate of Mordor (expanded set)
SheepEater replied to Karlson's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
Hi! I stumbled upon this thread and I'd like to share in my experience. - Bought my 2nd black gate on eBay without minifigs for cheap. Got the 2 missing orcs on BrickLink (plus a 2008 orc) along with two cheap "Gondor Soldiers". . Also got a few more accessories on BrickLink. Aragorn uses Anduril (a chrome Lego greatsword) so I gave his basic sword to the soldier. Got a bow, a shield, and orc hairpiece and an armor for the orcs, and a silver spear + shield for the gondorians. - Found an excellent LXF file of the extended black gate on www.lordofthebrick.com , it looks familiar to the topic creator's, maybe the topic creator submitted it to them? Anyway, thanks guys! I had to somewhat modify it, though. It lacked many of the recent parts, and I had to retool the SNOT front plates a bit so that I could fit in the door knobs so that it could look more like the official build. - This is the set exactly as it appear in my room, minifigs positioned like that.... except for the two orcs that are on each tower, I can't fit them there on LDD, so they are right on the back. And Gandalf's cape won't fit in LDD, either. Black Gate LXF file Minifigs only -

I would rather get NO generic castle sets at all so they concentrate on LOTR. Gondor stuff would easily outclass anything than can come up with on the new castle line, if this year`s castle sets are any indication.

Yep. It changed owners a couple of times, actually. Erector used to be a separate company from Meccano. Nowadays Erector is just a different brand name for their products sold in the USA. With that said, they could at least try harder. Imagine if the Kristiansen family bought the company. They would probably replicate all the existing Technic functionality in metal. We can dream

LOTR Orcs, Goblins & Trolls vs 2008 Orcs and Trolls
SheepEater posted a topic in LEGO Historic Themes
Minifigures: LOTR Orcs and goblins come in good color variety (dark tan orcs/goblins, green moria orcs and dark red uruk hais) but with few color variation in weapon & armor (mostly pearl dark gray). 2008 Orcs only came in sand green, but had more body print variations and a very good weapon and armor selection, having silver and bronze weapons and helmets, and a few different kinds of helmets. Large figures: 2008 Trolls were all identical, with the only difference being plastic color (tan or sand green) and print color. LOTR / Hobbit only have the cave troll and goblin king, but they are completely unique. Which do you prefer?
