Sorry for necromancing this old thread from 2004 but this MOC is pretty good.

Considering that the 2nd wave of LOTR sets will probably feature a much better ratio of Return of the King scenes, I think the female character that is the most likely to be represented in a set is Eowyn, because she appears in a climactic, pivotal ACTION filled scene. And she won't need any new special hair mold for elven ears. Arwen is next, if only for the flight to the ford scene, untrue to the book might it be. They probably won't create any other scene she appears in, because Lego sets are marketed to little boys and they want action, not romance. Though I'd love a coronation scene. Same reasoning goes for a "Lothlorien" or "Mirror of Galadriel" scene for Galadriel; though I'd love to have that scene I'm an adult and my tastes are different than a little boy or a tween. Maybe little girls would love a Lothlorien or Mirror of Galadriel scene with tons of pretty flowers and trees, foliage and such. They'd just have to paint the box pink and put it in the girls' aisle. I know geeks like me would find it anyway. Remember, back when the movies came out, Mattel made a Barbie Arwen/Aragorn set and Barbie Galadriel. Not sure how successful they were, though. To the girls in the audience, do you think my idea makes sense? I know MOCs made by serious female AFOLs tend to feature TONS of flowers, trees, and details and I'd love that in an official Lego set.

Welcome back to the hobby! I only have Gandalf Arrives and Shelob Attacks from this line, and the book spine does have white lines, but I think that's normal and nothing to worry about (unless yours is actually really cracked, and is about to split into two). The technic flex connector joints from late 90s were also like this, and none of them ever broke on me. If any of your parts break, call Lego service and they'll send you a replacement part. Or use their dedicated form on their web site. Don't know about spears, really. I got back into the hobby in 2002 and collected almost exclusively Technic and Town/City/Trains - the only "castle" set I ever owned is Blacksmith shop.

Which Lego LOTR Character is your favorite?
SheepEater replied to Aragorn8713's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
I love that they gave Merry the "Han Solo" trademark smirk. -
You forgot one 9476 Orc Forge

So you don't care about the minifigs? Interesting. I think generic-castle fans, for all their complaining about the fact that licensed sets are more expensive, are in for a treat if they can sell their minifigs. You buy a $130 set, sell off all the figs on bricklink for $60-70, and you end up with 1300 gray and dark gray bricks for a mere $60-$70. ---- READ THIS IF YOU PLACED AN ORDER OF HELMS DEEP ON TOYSRUS.CA last saturday: About the Toys R Us "sale" last saturday of Helms Deep for $79.99: They haven't canceled the sale yet, and sent me confirmation emails for both of my orders, and I have called the Office de protection du consommateur, roughly translated to Office of protection of consumers, a canadian government agency. The lady on the phone told me that YES, it can be enforced, but the way it works is that if they do cancel the order, I have to actually buy the set at full price, THEN submit a formal complaint asking for the difference. She confirmed that the confirmation emails sent by ToysRUs to me do work as proof that they did have the "sale". ---------- I just sent this email to theonering.net ... Hi! I have been a huge LEGO fanatic since 2002 AND Lord of the Rings fanatic since the mid 90s, having finished reading the book only 2 years before the first movie. So when Lego announced their toy line, I was ecstatic. I REALLY liked your review of the Shelob Attacks set, because it was from a very different point of view than that of a hardened AFOL (adult fan of lego), as AFOL reviews tend to be a bit grumpy and obsessive over Lego parts (as we will inevitably compare it with previous Lego themes), so yours was refreshing. Are you going to review the remaining 6 sets of the line?
-
Really? I'd see that as a good thing, as both Merry and Pippin each come in relatively expensive sets; this would be a good way to all four hobbits (along with Frodo and Sam from Shelob Attacks) at a decent price.

- Saruman - Elrond - old Bilbo - Arwen - Eowyn - Galadriel - Celeborn - Faramir - Wormtongue - Gamling (Theoden's lieutenant) - Sharku (Warg rider Orc leader) - Denethor - Gondorian soldier - Gothmog (The deformed Orc general from Return of the King) - King of the dead... along with: - Ghostly soldier - Haradrim human fighting for Sauron (barbarian) - Mouth of Sauron - Mordor troll (the ones attacking Minas Tirith, and defending the Black Gate) - Rosie Cotton - Generic Elf Archer **** the following are variations of existing Lego LOTR characters. I'll leave it to you folks if they should or shouldn't be a part of the poll: ***** - Gandalf the White - Witch King of Angmar, decked in full armor and with morning star - Aragorn, King of Gondor, with Anduril - possessed & frail Theoden I wanna make a poll, but I don't have the privileges. Hopefully a mod can convert this into a poll. Thanks Let's stick to the characters from the movie; as much as I do like Glorfindel, Tom Bombadil and Radagast the Brown, we all know there's no way Lego will ever make them into minifigs. I think large characters like the Balrog and Treebeard should be brick built, so they aren't an option for a minifig. I think IF Lego do make a Balrog, there's almost 99% chance it will be brick built, since that's the way it appears in the Lego LOTR video game trailer.

About The Hobbit: Do you guys think Lego will use this old dragon mold for Smaug? I hope not.

http://www.escapistmagazine.com/articles/view/editorials/reviews/previews/9661-Lego-Lord-of-the-Rings It seemed like such a sure hit, most of us wondered why it took so long. Well, the wait is over; today, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment announced Traveller's Tales is currently working on Lego Lord of the Rings. I recently had a chance to get an early look at next week's E3 demo, which follows the Fellowship in Balin's Tomb, from Pippin's accident at the well to the battle with the orcs to the final showdown with the cave troll. The game features the full Fellowship, and presumably several unlockable characters, and all the voices are provided by the cast from the film. Yes, the Lego series appears to be moving away from the gibberish dialogue and pantomime featured in previous games. It's a bit odd at first to look at these comically blocky figures and hear the gravitas in Ian McKellen's voice, but I think it works overall, particularly because the situations and animations still have that slightly silly Lego feel. In true Traveller's Tales fashion, each of the characters has unique abilities that you'll have to use to get past certain obstacles. Sam Gamgee, for instance, has a tinderbox he can use to burn certain objects in the environment. The mechanic should be familiar to Lego game fans; the bounty hunters in Star Wars and Batman in his own game each had bombs that could destroy certain parts of the environment. In the case of Balin's Tomb, Sam has to burn a pile of wood to get at a key the Fellowship needs to open a nearby chest. The game also adopts that slightly humorous take on the situations and characters the Lego series is known for. Gimli's power, for instance, is that he can be thrown through certain walls to unlock new areas and items. Here, Gimli's got to knock down a wall to get at the crank the Fellowship needs to wind the bucket up the nearby well. Each character also has a unique fighting style, so when the goblins come rushing in, you'll find that Gimli and Legolas don't fight the same way. As an archer, Legolas is also useful for hitting out of the way switches with his arrows. It works exactly the same way the blaster characters worked in Star Wars, except instead of shooting red targets to drop crates on Stormtroopers, you're shooting red targets to gain access to the materials you need to barricade the doors leading into the Tomb. Not surprisingly, the powers all suit the characters and the circumstances of the movie. During the fight with the cave troll, for instance, Legolas' arrows play a key role. The player will have to lure the cave troll into using his chain to strike at key points in the environment. Once his chain gets stuck, the hobbits have a chance to jump on the troll's back and give Legolas a chance to shoot him in the eye. It's all very faithful to the source material, which is no surprise if you've played Traveller's Tales versions of Star Wars, Batman, Harry Potter, Indiana Jones or Pirates of the Caribbean. There's still lots more to talk about with this game, such as which other heroes or villains we might get to play as, if the co-op play is being extended beyond the couch, or if we'll see a Hobbit expansion. We'll be swinging by to check out the game again at E3 next week, so be sure to come back for more updates.

That minifig's face would make a great LOTR Eowyn. From what set does she come from?
-
No, Merry is in this set, he's the redhead. Sam (from set 9470)'s hair color is a cross between orange and tan. Pippin has normal brown hair, and he's in Mines of Moria.

Review: LotR 9469 Gandalf Arrives
SheepEater replied to Captain BeerBeard's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
Great review! I respectfully disagree, I like the staff that comes with the set, the reason being this book cover that has been ingrained in my mind since the mid 90s: Here's a MOC made with only bricks from the cart, Frodo's wooden car! http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=70330 -
Upcoming LOTR minifigures wish list!
SheepEater replied to SheepEater's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
Treebeard should be BRICK built. Good call. Nobody mentioned peasants thus far, and they ARE a big part of the films. Although, for people who don't mind the yellow heads, the generic Lego Castle peasants should work just as well. -
Is Lego Star Wars the most successful SW toy line of all time? I remember being a kid in the 80s, the Kenner SW toys were huge.

Yesterday I ordered six in total (in one internet order of 1, and a phone order of 5). If they don't honor at least my internet order (where I have proof of the transaction), I'm calling the office of customer protection to file a formal complaint. So they WILL honor at least the first castle I bought, or else they have a world of hurt coming from me. I called my credit card company to verify; and they have only "frozen" the actual funds - they will only actually charge me when they ship and until that time I don't have to pay back any money to my Visa. TRU never sent me a confirmation email for the 5 castles I bought on the phone - maybe I should have placed them all on the website... Still, it involved no risk at all to me. So thanks a lot for the heads up again Funny how when they reverted back the price of both sets, they reduced Weathertop's price to Lego's MSRP of 74.99, getting rid of the maligned ToysRUs tax.

Upcoming LOTR minifigures wish list!
SheepEater replied to SheepEater's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
Really? Who'd have guessed? -
That has to be one of the most "adorable" picture I have seen of any LOTR set, yet.
-
This would make an awesome house for a LOTR Bree village
-
I placed a second order for FIVE more of these sets - but this time, over the phone. The phone representative was very sleepy and had no idea whatsover. At the very worst, they'll have to give me my money back when they find out about the glitch.
-
JUST PLACED THE ORDER It's backordered, but I placed it anyway. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU   Not only there was a glitch in the pricing, but I got free shipping as well! It more than makes up for having to wait until they get it ;-)

I just noticed that the official lego lotr site has had a massive update - the video game trailer (as pointed out above), the official toys commercial, and the rest of the sets on the middle earth map. Also... the official message boards finally have a LOTR forum.
-
The only bad thing about this set is the horrible price-per-piece ratio ($75 canadian for 430 pieces). Especially when compared to Shelob Attacks ($25 canadian for 227 pieces). If it was $60 CAD I would already have it.

LOTR + Hobbit Sets - The Continuity Errors
SheepEater replied to just2good's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
Interesting how obscure stuff from the book shows up when it doesn't appear in the movies. I really have to read it again - haven't done that since 1998. Kudos to Lego for having hardcore LOTR fans design their sets. Speaking of the book, before someone here complains about Gandalf's staff being too simple compared to the movie version (as many reviewers from other sites pointed out)... here is the book version: As you can see, very simple staff, apart from the tiny light coming from the tip end.
