Sorry, but I don't like it. It looks like an owl-man-thing.

Ridiculously good... the detail, the green fire, everything... wow!

Your sets are splendid. Great work! Other than that... Can't you use a face for Gollum? That's the only nitpicking I can think of.
-
You mean the purple legs, right? What do they look like below? Do they have 1 1/2 studs so they can sit down? Are they custom made? If so, who made them? Link?

Nice jeep. It sure seems like Friends MOC are all the rage here. For all the hate on mini-dolls, I sure see them an awful lot in town MOCS

I am not as old as the image suggests, though. Although it came out in 1976, my parents bought it in 1980.

That mock set and accompanying caption is hilarious. I don't think Lego would stoop so low as to include a BURP piece in such a small set, though... the closest we have to this mock up is Uruk-Hai army, and the wall piece is quite detailed.

As much as I absolutely love LOTR (the book, the movies, AND now the Lego sets as well), and look forward for more sets for the LOTR line, I unfortunately am not really excited about Lego The Hobbit sets because a majority of the characters will probably have stumpy legs. I think that now is the time for Lego to redesign their short legs to at least give them SOME articulation.

Looks great. Those hands are friggin huge!

Least appropriate place TLG has placed a flickfire missile.

I'd actually like them... if they'd go further than a couple of inches. -
I know, but there is still a way to see Shelob's designer video, Click on Products, click on Shelob Attacks, the video on the bottom of the screen will be the correct one.

I'm gonna vote after I have obtained, and built, all 7 sets. Only have the 3 smallest sets thus far.

Helm's Deep animation is HILARIOUS! One lone Uruk Hai knocks on the gate with his sword and has to take on Aragorn, Gimli and Theoden all on his own. That's one courageous orc. The wall explodes in an avalanche of bricks, and the berserker uruk hai doesn't die, he's just slightly knocked back from the explosion and ready to go again. Lego have a way to transform very serious and intense scenes into adorable cartoon violence.

Having read the book in the late 90s before the movies even came out, I was drooling when Lego announced the new LOTR sets. My problem however is that I was never into castle. I buy Technic & Town(City,Trains) sets exclusively. I imagine those sets must be much more appealing to AFOLs who already have a sizeable castle collection. Sets like Helm's Deep will be much better if you already have a sizeable collection of: 1) castle walls 2) brown/wooden parts, wooden wheels etc 3) minifig soldiers 4) farm animals to expand it to.

I'm excited about those new LOTR sets but...

After going through my collection, I think I have many sets that I can use for castle-ish MOCS. What's your take on this? Blacksmith Shop (the only non-LOTR castle set in my entire collection) Green Grocer Log Cabin 5771 Hillside House (nice green plates, tree, white bricks) My collection http://www.brickset.com/search/?ownedBy=UndeadHalfOrc -
They didn't send me any emails yet. Went to Toysrus.ca with both my order numbers, and they are still active, in pre-order status. And if they do, whether or not they send me a rebate is irrelevant. I'll buy it from them, then sue them for the difference using a formal consumer protection office complaint form. Did you bother to call your province's consumer protection office? Unless they genuinely run out of these sets, cancelling these perfectly valid orders is actually ILLEGAL! Them making a mistake DOES NOT give them the right to go back on their announced price. Sorry if I seem grumpy. I'm very aggressive when it comes with big companies who take advantage of the little guy. Especially if my money is involved.

My local walmart's boxes are all glossy, but I noticed that Shelob Attacks's coloring is a bit off.

Makes sense. I think Lego probably has this planned: (these are my predictions and as such are subject to debate): First hobbit wave this christmas. They will still have enough of the initial 7 LOTR sets for sale. May 2013, A second wave of LOTR. They are probably already roughly planned, if not designed already. They'll focus more on Return of the King, with at least 2 sets depicting the battle of Gondor (with at least one of those with Eowyn and the Witch King). At least one set related to Isengard/Orthanc, with the obligatory Saruman. At least one set involving Treebeard/Ents. One small set focusing on the destruction of the Ring. The rest is up to anyone's guess. (King of the Dead scene? Rivendell scene?) If Lego doesn't produce a Saruman or either of the 3 main female characters, I predict a backlash, and a vast increase of popularity of custom figs depicting them. (I'm already eyeing a few sold on eBay) Christmas 2013, 2nd hobbit movie line. Initial 2012 LOTR wave is discontinued by that point, with 2013 summer's LOTR set is available. May 2014 is when things REALLY start to depend on the overall success of the line so far. If successful, THEN maybe we'll start seing some adult oriented UCS sets. I also predict that in the next few months, we'll know if Lego ever plans on upgrading the design of their short legs to something more poseable, because with 1 hobbit and 13 dwarves, this is the best time, in their entire history, for them to consider it.

Picked that set yesterday at Walmart. I think they nailed a good balance between satisfying the adult LOTR/Lego geeks like us by incorporating lots of details, and satistying the kids with the "cute" little play features found in all of the sets.

If you could meet Tolkien himself...
SheepEater replied to SheepEater's topic in Culture & Multimedia
After creating this topic, I ended up doing my own little bit of internet research on the life of Tolkien. He wrote the Hobbit as a middle aged adult in his late 30s or mid-40s, having just started his big family. So I imagine him as a nice young teacher, who loves entertaining kids. At first (in the 1940s and 1950s) he was grateful for every letter sent by fans, and would reply back. From the way I see it, as he found mass success in the 60s, especially with the american hippies, who would bother him constantly, he became increasingly grumpier over time. At one point he completely resented The Hobbit, and was considering re-writing the entire book to make it less childish, and more in line with LOTR. So if I came back in time to 1948, maybe Tolkien would let me talk to him and discuss his books characters at length. But if I came back in time to say 1965, he would probably tell me to bugger off, since at this point he had morphed completely into a grumpy old man -
(Not my MOC, but I thought I'd share)

Review: LotR 9469 Gandalf Arrives
SheepEater replied to Captain BeerBeard's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
Found this MOC while digging up some brickshelf folders -
There is now a Shelob Attacks CGI animation! But not on the Middle Earth map - on the Lego main page itself. http://www.lego.com/en-us/default.aspx I'm kinda disappointed that all Gollum's doing is waving his fish around. But Shelob's awesome animation more than makes up for it Now only Helm's Deep needs an animation!

Awesome scene! It's "Fly, you fools!"
