[MOC] Porsche Boxster/Cayman
Thirdwigg replied to Thirdwigg's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Alright, the Boxster is finished! The nose is a little off, and the area around the mirror could use some work, but I'm pleased with the overall look, and the functions that were implemented. Features: Steering with HOG Opening doors, bonnet, and rear deck Rear with drive with Flat 6 engine Convertible top Front storage for HOG extender or rollbars Lime! Also, I wish I was able to round the rear a little better ... And a little video. I have a draft of the Cayman, which will be finished when 42196 is released. The Boxster needs an orange partner. I hope you all enjoy. -

Watching this thread is getting me excited about RC trucks again. These axles are great. -
[MOC] Peugeot 2008 DKR 1:10 (Dakar Rally)
Thirdwigg replied to Lipko's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Get job @Lipko and it's great to see you back to building. I love the manual builds, so this makes me happy. The suspension design is great. The spare tires are a nice features, as their size makes the addition of this feature significant, so congratulations. Great MOC! -

Very cool. I long for this kind of event in my area. Maybe it's time for this kind of event at Brickworld Chicago next year. -
[MOC] Unimog U423and U530 1:20 Scale
Thirdwigg replied to Thirdwigg's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Yeah maybe. The issue will still be height, as it has been with the Axle with Stop engines. It looks like the these new parts still need 5.5 modules of vertical space, which is more than the 4.5 needed for the old piston parts. The half module offset of the old crankshaft still works really well when space is at a premium. -

Thanks for sharing. I like how you used the base of 42139 for the MOC. Limitations aside, it's a good idea. -
[MOC] Unimog U423and U530 1:20 Scale
Thirdwigg replied to Thirdwigg's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
This little U423 project turned out to be a great project for me. I loved the design, and some design features allowed for it to expand into a number of other supporting projects. However, at some point I wanted to design a long wheelbase version of this MOC, and I finally was able to finish it this spring. Like the U423, the U530 has all the same features, but in a longer wheelbase. The longer wheelbase allows for a pneumatic pump to be included in the frame to power a rear pneumatic pump for trailers and the like. The full feature list is as follows: Steering with HOG RWD with portal axle I2 fake engine Rear pendular suspension Tilting cab Three way tipping bed with left side radiator HOG Opening doors Front PTO Rear and Center PTO with On/Off switch Front, Rear, and Bed attachment Points Rear pneumatic PTO pump All the other U423 attachments can be used on the U530, except for attachments that require the same bed length. The U423 has a 15 stud bed length, and the U530 has a 19 stud bed length. This does mean that the U4000 beds (such as the camper) may be used on the U530. Below is the rear crane. Or the Snow Plow. The rear Pneumatic PTO allows for pneumatic trailers to be used as wanted, such as the Atmos Dumper. Here is the truck all opened up. And here are both trucks together. Instructions are available for the U530 if you would like at Rebrickable.com. And the U423 instructions are still freely available. Finally a little video to show you all the truck in action. I don't have anythings else planned for this project at this time, but we'll see if that changes. I hope you all enjoy. -
Thirdwigg's MOCs
Thirdwigg replied to Thirdwigg's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
A couple of years ago, when LEGO 42098 came out, I loved the little car, and thought I could improve upon it. Someone requested that I post instructions for it, so I took it upon myself to do this. You may find free instructions for the car at Rebrickable.com. The car keeps to shape and proportions of the original design adds in a couple of features: Steering with HOG Rear wheel drive with fake V-8 Rear live axle suspension Opening doors Wide rear tires And a little video. I hope you all enjoy. -
[MOC] Porsche GT3 RS 42156 B-model
Thirdwigg replied to Alex Ilea's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Great job @Alex Ilea. Your builds keep getting better. I love the use of the black curved panel on the bottom just behind the front wheels. Also the front bumper is spot on. I'm happy that the lime green us used subtly for the interior and the rear wheel. Overall, well done. -

I'm a little behind, but I love that boat. Any more progress on that? Also, I looked for the Unimog, but can't find anything else about that. Any progress on that MOC too? -
[MOC] BMW LMR '99 - 1/15 Scale
Thirdwigg replied to prototyp's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
The LMP car is my favorite, and the 90s-00s were my favorite time for them. I love the open, offset, cockpit designs on this era. This is an iconic car, and you recreated it well. Those arches are perfect for the front wheel covers, and flow nicely into the side pods. The engine cover looks great as well. You did a great job on the bodywork. Know that all the shapes, and snot work did not go unnoticed. The internals are top notch as well. great job fitting everything in. When I did my OCTAN LMP this last year, I was constantly putting the engine cover back on to test the fit of each and every engine detail I made. I would make a change, test again, change the cover, and on and on. I wonder if you experienced something similar with this design. Great idea for the engine trumpets as well. Overall great build, and one you can be proud of. Well done.- 6 replies

General Part Discussion
Thirdwigg replied to Polo-Freak's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I actually find that that part does not do too well with twisting axles. After a certain amount of torque the axle will "skip" 90 degrees in the axle slots.- 4599 replies
