Pricey Technic Parts vs. Our Hobby

Expensive parts have killed many of my ideas and attempts at building some of the excellent MOC's out there. The flex axles that were common place are now commanding $15-$20 each and when you need six of them it adds up quick. I cannot pay $100+ for thin pieces of rubber now matter how badly I want to build the model.

    Building a Supercar MOC

I should have clarified that I have parts from 9398 and 8070 to work with. The $200 is for the extra bits My choice would be the F40 if only for the scale, but even with all of the LXF files combined it does not seem like everything is there. Plus, those 14L flex axles are stupidly expensive.

    Building a Supercar MOC

I am looking to build my first "supercar" MOC but choosing one is not easy. I have about $200 set aside for extra parts. Madoca's Off Road Pickup Paul's 911 GT3 jorgeopesi's F40 Or, I can continue waiting for the 76023 Tumbler to come back in stock

    1H2015 Video Reviews

Nice, can't wait! Am I right in thinking that the 42039 b-model is like a Bowler EXR-type SUV? Or is it more like a buggy/car?

    42030 - Volvo L350F MODs and Improvements

I was thinking about modding the rear of the loader to something like this. It would look more like the real L350F for sure.

    [MOC] Off Road Pickup

I'm in love! Just wonderful! I know this will end up costing a lot of money but I don't care. I HAVE to build this truck.
  7. I made a few small improvements last night to my 42009. The rear superstructure has been raised and extended by one stud so as to match the front cabin height, and it now sits even with the boom.

    Madoca's new truck again?

Exceptional work yet again! This is what 42029 should have been.
  9. The file for the 76023 Tumbler doesn't load for me.

    42039 - 24 Hour Race Car - Discussion Topic

They really did do a complete redesign, didn't they. The new fender panels are nice and the front air splitter is more accurate to a real LMP1 car but the headlights are too vertical and the choice to use round lenses instead of the tiles was a terrible idea. And what happened the roof and rear section! Ehh!!!
  12. Me too! It really is remarkable and I can understand why some do not like to preview a set before release, but I think it's great.
  13. They changed the page on the US S@H site and it now reads: What a bunch of BS! The nearest LEGO store is 90 miles away from me and they don't even have any left. I have $200 ready to spend but because of someones failure to recognize the popularity of this set, I am essentially being told to sod off.

    Technic 2015 Discussion and Speculation

At least with 42038 Snow Tracker we get more orange 5x11 panels. Maybe I'll be able to add an orange plow to my Unimog That street bike looks pretty bad with those colors and resembles 8051 too much. There are so many amazing motorcycle MOC's out there and yet Lego seems to have seen none of them.

    Ferrari F40

That is beautiful! The F40 never ages and you really captured the lines. I just hope I have enough parts to build it.

A LeMans style flagship would be great! Either an LMP or GT class with a proper gearbox please.

    Technic 2014 Discussion and Speculation

I just came back from Walmart where, overnight, they put out five Technic sets! We have never had any Technic here so I was pleasantly surprised. The sets were the snowmobile, Chinook helicopter, orange race car, green dune buggy and the baby blue hot rod.

    42030 - Volvo L350F MODs and Improvements

The rear sags a bit because of the weight on the rear axle. In particular the area that connects the pendular axle to the rear of the chassis because there is no support above it. The two stud gap allows the beams to bend. My simple fix:
  19. Does anyone know how long the Tumbler is? I'm hoping it will fit inside a Detolf case.
  20. I bought 42030 and I might grab a Tumbler.

    42030 - Volvo L350F Wheel Loader

It took me about seven hours to build 42030 over two days. The entire process was a lot of fun and very comparable to 8265 which still remains a favorite of mine. There are about 1,000 less pieces than last years 42009 but it never felt like it.This thing is huge! I know there was talk of this set not being in scale with previous Technic construction sets but it is. It is close to 1/22 to 1/24 scale which matches up nicely with 42009 and 8043. Of course this replica is a bit longer overall if you were to put it side by side with an accurate diecast model but that is down to design choices while trying to stuff all of the PF inside it. There are areas that need attention like the front but overall I am impressed and seeing this set in person has changed my opinion. The steering is not terrible but I'm interested to see what mod's are in the works. Whether it is worth $250 US is another matter but if you want one you don't have a choice. I went for the Rock Crusher XT 1.9's instead of the stock "Unimog" tires as the tread is too shallow. Obviously these are more for crawling but they don't look half bad until I can find a better option. I did have to move the front fenders back one stud and and modify the rear fender hinges so the tires wouldn't rub when the pendular axle was used. I also added 1x8 tiles to cover the gray frames and panels to improve the front end.
  22. I agree, the attention to detail is very nice to see. They could have put all of the focus on the exterior but the chassis and interior are no less interesting. Why did this have to be $200!

    Efferman's Custom Parts

Has anyone ordered the yellow 42030 rim covers? I'm curious if the color is similar to the real Lego yellow.
