You can buy the set on eBay for $140 I think I'll wait, but at least the box looks nice!

Advanced Models 10248 Ferrari F40: Discussion Topic

I was really hoping Lego would do the F40 justice and sadly this doesn't work for me. It looks very "kiddy" and the insane amount of stickers used is very disappointing.

    Problem with Parts Cracking

While dusting my 8070 today I noticed that a bushing felt loose. Once I examined it closer I could see that the entire part had cracked in multiple places and one section was so loose that it fell off! This was a brand new, unused part left over from my 42009 spare parts and was only used as a stop on an axle that never saw any stress. I have to mention that I mailed about fifty cracked parts to LEGO a few months ago and never received an email or letter about the issue. I hope they are taking this seriously but I fear it has gone unnoticed. I only want to make a great product that I love even better.

    8051 Streetfighter

Had a little fun with the 8051 and I really liked the result. Just a few simple mods give it a more aggressive stance and feel like a proper Streetfighter.

Thanks guys! When the suspension is pressed the headlights do touch but I thought they looked better placed lower. As a sport/race bike it has limited suspension travel anyway

    Problem with Parts Cracking

32039 is the latest victim :( The black 42039 that is used for the handlebars on the 8272 Snowmobile is cracked in the same place. Lego came through with the replacement parts which was great, but if I use them they will start to crack eventually. They asked me to send some examples of the damaged parts and I plan on sending a lengthy letter explaining what I believe is the issue(too much grip force plus thin plastic).

    Problem with Parts Cracking

My 42009 has developed cracks on nearly every connector part with an axle hole except for beams. Lego sent me a few replacement parts for my 8420 and 8272 and in the letter they sent along with the parts they said contact them again if something else should come up. Well...I just placed an order for 64 various connectors so let's see what they do I urge everyone to check for these stress fractures. The cracks are small and are seen best when a black axle is inserted into the axle hole. You may not even notice them until you feel the lack of friction.

    Problem with Parts Cracking

Yes, go to the Lego website and request replacements. I would also urge you to send an email to Lego letting them know that these parts are defective. The more we write the more they pay attention. I sent an email last week and their reply was just a copy and paste message telling me to order new parts It doesn't matter how many new parts I order, they will ALL eventually crack due to poor design. My solution for now was to file the axle holes on the still intact pieces using a needle file. I know it sounds insane but I think reducing the clutch force by even a little might help.

    Problem with Parts Cracking

Just checked my 42000 Grand Prix Racer and all of the 32291 and 42003 pieces are showing the same stress fractures. Most are not all the way through but that does not matter. The grip level is noticeably less than an unbroken piece.

    Problem with Parts Cracking

The diecast cars or the LEGO? I already sold most of my 1:18 cars but the few that are left look terrible. It is clear as Erik said that the problem is too much clutch power. Whether it be with the small ridges inside certain parts or thin beams, the stress is too much for plastic. The focus shifts to stopping the cracking before it starts and the only way to do that is by sanding down the pieces.

    Problem with Parts Cracking

From what I can see the problem is definitely being caused by the ridges inside pieces like 32184, 32291 and 42003. If you insert an axle into one of these parts you can feel when the ridges on the inside start to grip. For some reason the ridges are only placed in the middle which causes the force to be centered in the middle, causing the part to bulge slightly and over time it will eventually crack.

    Technic 2015 Discussion and Speculation

The 42043 is not a bad looking set but I can't stand pneumatics. The hoses always pop off and displaying is a pain because the air leaks out. I can appreciate the more realistic approach compared to linear actuators but if Lego wanted to really do something amazing, why not create a closed hydraulic system? It could be similar to an all-in-one CPU cooler where everything is sealed so no mess.

    Problem with Parts Cracking

If I discovered a few cracked pieces in twenty years, I could live with that but not with sets two or three years old. I still have K'Nex purchased back in the early 90's that look brand new to this day so Lego should have no trouble.

    Problem with Parts Cracking

I'm not happy about it. Some of the pieces are not that old and now they are useless! What about reselling the sets? I have to go buy new pieces to replace the countless ones damaged by TLG's faulty design. I stopped collecting diecast cars because my 1:18 and 1:43 scale models were starting to get paint bubbling and some even had cracking metal bodies due to cheap materials. It seems my LEGO days may be over as well as I cannot afford to have $200+ sets fall apart on the shelf.

    Problem with Parts Cracking

I just checked my 8272 Snowmobile and 32184 in black, 42003 in red and 32291 in black are all cracked the same way. I'm afraid to look at my more expensive models like the modified 42009 or my 8110 Unimog. This is very upsetting and should NEVER happen. This is not simply because of aging, etc. In my opinion this is down to poor engineering because with 32184 you can clearly see how the part bows out when you insert an axle. There are also small bits of excess plastic on the inside to increase grip but they could be the culprits.
  18. I posted this in the Technic section but I felt it was important to post it here too. I dusted off my 8070 Supercar today and noticed that all of the 32184 pieces were cracked in the same place. It has sat on my shelf for three years so the pieces were never stressed.

    Technic 2015 Discussion and Speculation

I'm more in awe of Dokludi's abilities than the model itself but it doesn't look bad. New panels/beams in silver would have been killer though.

    [WIP] 2016 Ford GT Supercar

As much as I love the 05/06 GT, the new GT is simply incredible. It is so far beyond anything Ford has made and is now a true supercar. As soon as it was unveiled I thought about how awesome a Technic model would be so I cannot wait to see what you do!

Third Party Tires for Lego Technic Rims

I tried different foams and even cut some PVC tubing to fit inside the Rock Crusher XT's but nothing worked. The foam would always end up flat and the tubing worked well but there was a weak spot where the two ends meet. The best solution I found was to shove the Unimog tires inside They actually fit pretty well once you get them in and they keep the sidewalls nice and stiff. I reckon they would be able to support a 12-15 pound MOC without a problem.

Another crane truck? I would definitely prefer a proper dump truck over another 8258.
