  1. Incredible collections! How do you guys find the room! Here is my small collection thus far:

    Inconsistent color within a set.

Even without any UV fade do the older red liftarms have less saturation compared to new ones? The ones that came with my Unimog are vibrant and bright while the ones on the 8420 are slightly duller but not as transparent looking if that makes sense. I don't think it is UV fading because even some of the pieces that were in on the inside away from all light have this issue too. This is a picture of the 1x3 liftarms. The one on the right is more orange-brown than red.

Lego Technic 2013 sets & info

Any idea on when the 42009 will be available? I know Lego says August but if the past flagship release dates are any indication this should be out before that, right? Maybe early July for some?

    Inconsistent color within a set.

I have noticed these color variations in the past(2010-present sets) but when I tore down a used 8420 I bought today the differences in some of the 1x3 thin liftarms is staggering. Half are bright red and the other half are darker and less saturated. They almost appear brown in sunlight! The two 1x9 red liftarms also exhibit this difference but they are not as bad. The seller said he built the set once and just left it so I don't think anything has been switched. Everything looks brand new save for the expected layer of dust.

What are the most ugly B models

The 9398 and 42000 are right at the top for me, with the 9398 taking the win.

Lego Technic 2013 sets & info

I think a semi truck would have been better. It would have been a great fit since the set has ten wheels.

Lego Technic 2013 sets & info

The more I see of the Mobile Crane the more I want it. This set is most definitely worthy of being a flagship. The 42009 seems to based on the Leibherr 1100: I live next to a railroad bridge and when they put the new 145 foot concrete beams in place they used a crane very similar to this. They left it there overnight so I went and had a look around it took a few pictures.

    Buy now or wait?

I really want the 8265 loader to go with my 8043 excavator and I keep hoping to find one under $200 but that does not seem possible, especially here in the U.S. Is this set worth dropping $200+ on or should I wait for the next big Technic loader? Maybe in 2014 since it would be five years since the 8265?

    My 42000 Improvements

I have been making changes to my 42000 model over the past few days and the first thing I realized right away was that the new hubs are not at all useful for this type of design. They are too wide to be used on a modern Formula 1 car and that is the reason for the almost cartoonish track width on the stock design. I still have some more ideas that I want to try but I wanted to share how nice the 42000 can look with a few small changes! - Side pods widened by one stud and moved forward slightly along with roll hoop and floor - Chassis lengthened by two studs between front and rear axles - Revised front wing - Yellow pieces changed to black or gray - Front suspension mounting points moved forward one stud - Rear drive shafts changed to u-joints to allow for hubless design - Flexible axles added to engine cover - Safety light added to rear - Rear diffuser added - Track width reduced by two studs on front and rear

    My 42000 Improvements

The suspension in the front seems a bit easier to compress, but the turning radius is still so-so.

    My 42000 Improvements

Thanks guys! It doesn't seem any less rigid than before even with the added length. The wheels are now attached by a single axle since I didn't use the new hubs and it's rather pathetic that they now feel more secure than before. The new hubs are way too wobbly! The single axle solution works better because it allows for a tighter, more accurate suspension. The only issue with my changes is that the flexible axles extending from the roll hoop must be detached at the base near the rear wing in order to lift the engine cover. Not a big deal for me though since I display it closed. I will be changing the front and rear wings soon to get them more in line with the 2009-present F1 cars. Wish I had a few more white beams though!
  13. I recently purchased the new 42000 Grand Prix Racer set and after putting it together I am not that impressed. It looks very unfinished with the yellow and gray pieces, and the open areas around the cockpit and side pods make it look cheap so I'd like to make my own with a more realistic look. The suspension and the proportions of the car are completely off on the 42000. I tried doing a search on this forum but it won't accept a two character entry such as "F1" and Formula 1 comes up with hardly anything. Does anyone have any examples of modern F1 cars(meaning 2009-present) in Technic? Searching around I found this really nice suspension design but unfortunately it is six beams wide so it is very difficult to mesh it with the studless parts. I tried it with a five length beam but the shocks touch and with a seven it looks too wide for an F1 car. And this one which is a pull-rod suspension:

    Modern Formula 1 car ideas?

I'm very new to Technic so even figuring out where to start is a bit daunting. I'm just trying to get some ideas from some of the talented builders around here and on other sites. The hardest part is building something by seeing one or two photos or renders, but I did manage to get something close to the first front suspension I posted albeit with the new wheel hubs. The problem is the new hubs make the wheels stick out too far.

    Issue with 42000. Help please!

Check the differential gear. I have put more in the wrong way than I can count!

    10240 Red Five X-wing Starfighter

Good for those who missed the first UCS like myself. Not a fan of stickers though.

    Lego Technic Clones

There are quite a few differences between the Decool and Bela "8674" sets. The Bela set has much shinier tires while the Decool looks more like something from Lego. The Decool also has yellow shock absorbers.

    Lego Technic Clones

I know it might seem insane, but I'm seriously thinking about buying a Decool set. For the longest time I have wanted a proper Technic F1 car but the prices for sets such as 8674 or 8458 are out of my reach. The Decool set looks decent and it's only $95.

    Lego Technic 2h 2013

I'm very impressed with the 42009 so far. As someone who missed both the 8421 and 8053 this is really exciting and the manual slewing is a welcome sight. The only let down is that I can't buy it now. I started saving today

    Cleaning models

I use a dusting brush I found at a dollar store. It works great, but it does need a good wash every now and again. For the tight spaces I use a can of compressed air.

    [REVIEW] 42000 Grand Prix Racer

I think the price is way too high. This set should be in the $80 range, not the $140 it is listed for here in the U.S.

    [REVIEW] 42000 Grand Prix Racer

I like the look of this set but why is Lego making Technic look like Duplo? Stop with the "pretty colors" already!

    8110 - Unimog - MODs and Improvements

My black rims arrived and I could not wait to put them on. I also added large sprockets for center hubs(the small ones looked too small). I haven't applied any stickers yet. Now this is a proper Unimog! Why Lego switched from the black to gray during the prototype stage I'll never understand.
