    Bricks 'N Pieces Magazine scans...

As a TF fan and in particular a fan of that character, I love your avatar and username! "Hur hur!" :) Sadly, I checked that link and that ONE Pirates-themed issue - Summer 1989 - gives a "404 error", file not found. :( However, to fix it, use this URL and it works! Thanks! http://miniland.nl/LEGOclub/Bricks en pieces summer 1989.htm (note: the double space needed before "summer" was the error)

    Bricks 'N Pieces Magazine scans...

Thanks, but those end at 1988... and the pirates-themed issue mentioned in the original post is Summer 1989. :(
  3. I'm looking for LDD versions of the newer Pirates sets, mainly the new 3-in-1 Creator ship and the Barracuda Bay (ship and shipwreck versions) to mess around with. They're not in the Official Sets in LDD megathread so thought I'd ask here if anyone's done them and was willing to share? Been away from Lego for awhile but the Barracuda Bay set totally roped me back in and I have both that and the Creator 3-in-1 sets on the way now... so much nostalgia for the old (I mean old) Pirates set from when I was a kid, I couldn't resist!
  4. Thanks everyone! I can't seem to find the LDD files in that "Modding the Barracuda" thread, at least not on the first few pages. Sorry to be a pain, but can anyone point me closer? A few years back when Pirates had its last hurrah, I bought multiples of all the sets (even the chess set) as I was recently out of my dark age (though it was actually Alien Conquest and Heroica that got me back into Lego first) and got the feeling that run of Pirates was a "one and done". Built the chess set during a fairly dark time in my life and still love it. The memories came flooding back, too. I enjoyed those sets so much that I then went and tracked down the previous run of Pirates sets (could only afford one each that time, as I bought them all NIB even though I planned to build them), and a reissue Black Seas Barracuda (had the original as a kid but like the fortress it's disassembled and likely long lost, I fear). Only thing I sadly couldn't afford is my current "holy grail", the Imperial Flagship. :( A couple of years went by and real life pushed Lego aside again, but despite it's high price I saw the Barracuda Bay set and had to have it! Several family members say they might give it as a birthday gift next month but I don't know if I can wait.:) Tempted though to say yes to mum, as my parents bought me that original BSB back in the 80's and it feels like full circle... Looking through the forums, I do wish I'd been into Lego when they were making those cool Islander sets (and the western stuff!!!). Wow!

Does anyone still have these scans? The links are all dead. :(

    Ship "Admiral's Eagle"

Many thanks for sharing your great MOC MrOutlaw! I'd have hated it to have been lost to the mists of time. Most MOC impress me but this is one of the few that I feel is both awesome *and* still looks like it could be a real Lego set in the appropriate theme. As amazing as some of the highly complex, giant diorama-style MOCs are, they always feel like adult display pieces to me as opposed to attempts to create what could be a "missing" model in a Lego series/wave. The Admiral's Eagle really fits the "no Imperial ships" hole in the recent Pirate wave, and even fits the scale of those newest releases too, IMO. One day I'd like to track down an Imperial Flagship to build, but for now I will be attempting to gather the parts to make the Admiral's Eagle for my pirates to fight! Thanks again, MrOutlaw!

    Ship "Admiral's Eagle"

I know this is an old topic (as much as I'd like to take the time to say how great it looks), so I'll just post the relevant: If anyone has the LDD file for this and can reupload or share it, please do! I'd LOVE to build this! (surely "bumping" is only a keelhauling offense if it is pointless? would it have been better to have started a new topic linking to this one asking the same question, though?)

    [ MOC ] Real Rocket Raccoon's Warbird

Just came across this build and absolutely love it! I don't suppose you have instructions, lxf or even just more pictures/info on how to build it?
  9. I've been wondering about something recently: there are obviously many parts made by Lego that have never been manufactured in certain colours... is there any way "around" this if I REALLY wanted one specific part in an unavailable colour? I know, the answer is almost certainly "no"... just writing this makes me think it's an impossible ask. But I've seen utterly amazing things done by dedicated fans of Lego, from original printed bricks to custom replacement arm poses to wireless LED lighting, making me think that with the right skills, resources and dedication, little is truly "impossible" (just impractical!). So, if I really REALLY wanted one specific part (for example, the microfig Heroica "horned helmet", only ever released in dark bluish grey) in pearl gold... what would be the way to go about it? Painting an existing part to match (close as possible)? Recasting the part from scratch? 3D scanning/printing? Like I said, I doubt this is realistically achievable, but I'm curious if anyone has actually done it before, and to what results.
  10. Since I'm fairly new to posting here, I was trying to find the section of the forums that deals with the (sadly now discontinued, it seems) Lego Games (boardgames)... particularly their Heroica line. I know they're no longer produced, but I assume some folks are still playing/interested in them. Where can I find these posts and fellow fans here? That's presuming there IS a section and/or still fans of the game... then again, Pirates has a great sub-forum here and there were apparently no Lego Pirates sets for five or ten years at a time! :)
  11. Apologies if this is in the wrong section, but I was strongly thinking of buying this but it's a HUGE investment, so I was hoping some other AFOL could help reassure me before I go ahead and drop the hammer... I only got back into Lego after buying Heroica and a couple of random on-sale Alien Conquest sets. I fell in love with both, especially AC, and now have a small armada of the line! I ended up buying the LOTR/Hobbit lines and a bunch of random City, Space Police II and Star Wars sets too, and have enjoyed them all (particularly the licensed stuff); Star Wars (original trilogy) has been massively nostalgic for me too, since I was a huge SW fan as a kid and remember making my own "Star Wars Lego" creations with space and knights back in the day... still amazes me to see how far Lego has come! But the Death Star... it looks pretty cool and detailed, but I've got limited space. I couldn't warrant something like the UCS Executor, X-Wing or Falcon price tags as I'd never keep them built. But the Death Star has enough "play value" and cool bits and pieces to make it a neat talking point and display rather than something that just hangs from the ceiling or sits on the table and might as well be a non-Lego model, right? I'd honestly sworn never to spend THAT much on a single Lego set, but I loved the look of it since I first saw it (and nearly had a heart attack at the price... remember I've been away from Lego for twenty-five odd years!) and have been debating buying it ever since. One other thing: I love minifigs, but notice that the ones in this set are the "older" designs... are they that bad compared to the new Lego Star Wars ones out now? I've bought every recent SW original trilogy set (Jabba's Palace, Y-Wing, Echo Base, etc.) but not tracked down the older ones as I've preferred the newer designs in most cases. The Death Star is an "old" design, though, that has just stuck around a long time (a rare thing for Lego it seems!). I've pretty much committed to buying it tomorrow, but am suddenly feeling a bit nervous, and hope I'm not making a big mistake... are there any happy owners of this set, especially those who are also Star Wars OT fans, who can reassure me that this is awesome and not a giant waste of money? :)

    [MOC] Washing Tub Pirate Raid

Wow, that's just awesome! I LOVE the sense of narrative as you look around the diorama, with so many fun little "scenes" taking place. The washing tub raid is a great nod to Lego's love of adding a pirate in one with an oar to many pirate sets, old and new. :) I would LOVE something like this as an official set, and can easily see it being done with some simplification, removal of the base and obviously much less minifigs. A pirate dock/tavern set is a dream of mine!
  13. I'm still longing after the Imperial Flagship myself... but at over AU$1000 every place I've seen it, just such a huge splurge. Would definitely be interested to check out any recommended sellers of them (MISB), though, as part of the struggle it seems is just finding one that ships to Australia (and doesn't inflate their postage price to several hundred dollars!!!).
  14. ... excitement! (seems my topic title was too long!) I'm a longtime lurker at Eurobricks, pretty much the only Lego site I visit. At 37, I'm old enough to have had Lego pirates ("Classic Pirates") as a memorable part of my childhood... I only had the earliest sets they made, but one of my favourite Lego sets was the "big pirate ship" (which I only now know was the "Black Seas Barracuda"). Like many others, once I'd got older, my Lego remained in an old chest and was moved around from house to house, to finally the garage, and left there, forgotten. I came out of my Lego "dark age" several years ago thanks to Heroica and Alien Conquest, two themes I discovered by chance and that made me fall in love with Lego all over again. I've bought other sets since, but when Lego released the 2015 Pirates wave I was hit with a shocking amount of nostalgia. Buying them, building that pirate ship (the "Brick Bounty"), assembling "bluecoats" with the backpacks and seeing those shark and cannon pieces just brought back *so* many memories for me. Even though I felt the sets were slightly underwhelming compared to some of the recent elaborate modern sets I'd bought from other themes (Star Wars, AC, Galaxy Squad, LOTR), it was nonetheless amazing to have brand new Pirate Lego in my adult hands! Of course, it didn't take long for me to discover that I'd missed out on a whole ton of older Pirate Lego stuff since I was a kid... I was so sad especially that I'd not come out of my "dark age" earlier to discover the Imperial Flagship, the even older Islander and Spanish sets and even the impressive ships of the POTC line. :( Though many of those were likely too old, rare or expensive to track down, I knew I needed more Pirate Lego than the current sets, so I set out to see if I could at least get hold of some of the 2009 "Pirates II" wave. Well, thanks to the miracles of Bricklink, yesterday I opened up several parcels to reveal good-as-new, mint-in-box Loot Island, Kracken Attackin', Cannon Battle, Pirate Survival, Soldier's Fort, and Battle Pack, as well as the 2011 (I think?) standalone Battle Pack. The "collector" in me feels rather guilty opening these wonderfully well-kept old sets up (is that odd?), but so far I've had *such* fun building those I have. I do wonder now though if I should have done some kind of "review/unboxing", from a less typical perspective, or at least taken photos? Regardless, it's so interesting to see the improvements and changes in the 2015 sets compared to these, particularly as many of the new sets are somewhat "updates" of the 2009 ones. I'm not sorry I got the older sets, though... the castaway minifig in Loot Island is my favourite Pirate figure so far, and having only ever owned "bluecoats" as a kid, the attraction of completely new "redcoats" was huge enough that I've ended up getting doubles of some of the smaller sets just to "army build" them and pit them against my 2015 bluecoat forces! :) Now I'm strongly thinking about tracking down the last couple of 2009 sets, including the ship ("Brickbeard's Bounty"), though I'm not sure if it will be worth the expectedly-high price; from what I can see, the 2015 "Brick Bounty" is actually very similar but superior in most ways (especially sails/masts/rigging). I would *really* like to get that Imperial Flagship... but I don't know if I have much of a chance nowadays. Do other Pirates fans here know if it's as expensive and rare to find (boxed) as I anticipate? Oh, and yeah, I got all these "MISB" even though I'm building not reselling them, because early on in my emergence from my "dark age", I thought it would be cheaper to buy "used" sets I'd missed, only to discover that nearly every time what I bought was in worse shape than the remains of my own childhood Lego, so I decided that it was worth spending the extra to meet my own (probably excessive) standards of quality... as well as to best recapture the feeling of opening a "brand new set" even if it's from many years ago. The downside is obviously that I'm already a lot poorer now! :( Finally, for those who've bothered to read my excited rambling this far (thanks!), I got another parcel today that made me feel like I was eight years old all over again. I didn't know Lego did "re-releases", but it seems they DID re-release my beloved childhood favourite: the "Black Seas Barracuda"! So yeah, I bought that too for probably way too much money, and now I'm looking at that gorgeously retro, sealed box and wondering if it's considered a crime in the eyes of Lego fandom to open her up and revisit my childhood by building that beautiful baby...? :) (sorry for the long post!)

    [MOC] Furiosa Friends

That is AWESOME! Love the colours, love the skulls, love the car and LOVE the minidoll! To Valhalla! I'm personally not a fan of those minidolls used in the Friends and other lines (just too used to minifigs/scale nostalgically, I think), but I'd seriously buy them if they made a Post Apocalypse Friends line! I'm a huge Mad Max and HUGE post apocalypse fan, though, so I'm a bit biased.

    MOC Pirates Paradise

Looking at the recently-bumped review of the big Islander set, this is actually the sort of thing I imagined (that set combined with a shipwreck). This actually works better for the line, IMO, and looks like an official set from the period, too. Since the 2015 sets seemed to be "updates" of the 2009 ones, the one element poorly carried over IMO was the inclusion of a large "shipwreck" structure like this or the Shipwreck Hideout... I'd love to see an official set based along these lines if they do a second wave.
  17. Oooh, now I'm curious! :)
  18. I've got a bit of a "thing" for post-construction "modular play" sets... i.e. sets that can join together (like the 2015 Pirates sets) or be reconfigured (like the 2009 Soldier's Fort), hence why I liked the 2009 Fort enough to get another one so soon after building the first. I'm no skilled MOC'er (I've been too long without Lego!), but I like "expanding" these sort of sets to make new "what if" components that could realistically been sold by Lego, as a bit of a self-challenge (as opposed to awesome and grand MOCs that are much more for passionate AFOLs). Already looking at a way to add more of a "cargo port" to my old and new Soldier's Forts! :) The more I look at them, the more I want those PotC sets... so annoyed I never bought the QAR when I saw it in stores here years ago (it was super expensive even then, but not as much as it is now!). They never made a Flying Dutchman though, did they?
  19. I was looking for a way to do this... thanks! Is the link to your "dummy" file broken or just down for me?
  20. I'd like to support this request from several years ago (but still missing from LDD, as of the latest version): http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=65013entry1177561 Basically, the "Alien Conquest" alien heads needing the correct printing/details. I would understand this wasn't worth the effort if it wasn't for the fact that the cool "Alien Villainess" face printing *was* added to LDD. Why not the others? My beloved alien invaders need faces! I'd also *beg* for microfig decorations (at least for Heroica), but I get the feeling few others would want them as much as I do (so much so that I'm currently trying to figure out alternate ways to render them).
  21. Well done! I'm considering that one myself, since I missed all the older Pirates sets. I'm not a huge PotC fan (fun movies, admittedly), but those two licensed ships look pretty lovely, especially the Pearl with those ominous black sails. My own latest are 2009's Brickbeard's Bounty and Shipwreck Hideout... hopefully! Currently both are on their way to me from far overseas. :) Oh, and also a pair of 2015 Shipwreck Defense sets on sale at Target, since Lego decided not to give us enough cannons for the 2015 Brick Bounty! :(

    Lego Golden Girls Kitchen

I stumbled across this at random... and instantly laughed out loud at how awesome the Bea Arthur minifig looks! Fantastic work... to be honest I'd *much* rather buy this than the new "Big Bang Theory" sitcom set (as I actually know/remember this show!). I've supported this on Ideas... though I'm curious why there's a later project than this one there too that appears almost identical, and IT is in review while this one isn't! Is that sort of thing actually allowed under Ideas? I don't know much about how it works, and I can certainly imagine two similar projects coming along... but it seems odd in this case that a copycat would beat a very similar set that's been gathering support for more than a year.

    6278 Enchanted Island Pictorial Review

What an amazing (old) set! I loved Pirates in my childhood, but that was before the Islander and Spanish stuff... mine were the BSB and soldier fortress with the big baseplate. As I'm now returning to Pirates, I've tracked down most of the 2009 sets and of course bought the new 2015 sets... but knowing I missed this "middle" period of Islanders vs Pirates makes me a bit sad... those Islanders are soooo "Monkey Island" (those of my age likely feel the same) to my eyes! Oh for a "Lemonhead" minfig... ;) I'm curious now how much this set sells for, given it was apparently one of very few Lego actually re-released! I recently bought a MISB BSB that was an early 2000's re-release, and it was very pricey... but then, I suspect the BSB has a LOT more of a nostalgic following these days than this set! Can anyone give me a rough idea what this set goes for in as-new condition these days? Regardless, a fantastic review with some great photos of the whole set and minifigs... even though this is an old thread, I am glad someone else bumped it recently so I can add my thoughts too. :) One thing I've noticed comparing the newest Pirates sets to the 80's ones I had as a kid (and these from the 90's) is the move away from baseplates and big "panel" pieces. I actually like that in a lot of ways; whilst I miss baseplates being included as they are a great starting point for creating new things (and make the sets easier to "play" with), visually, I think Lego-designed model sets look better without them.
  24. Thanks, K-Nut! I can understand the drop in popularity now they are no longer produced... such a shame, though, as not only was it a random Heroica buy that brought me out of my Dark Age (leading to buying a LOT more Lego!) but I assumed at the time that the boardgames were a regular line, not a one-off. That said, I am surprised that "Games" never had even their own subforum... were they never that big with mainstream Lego fans and/or was the line really short-lived and it was just a co-incidence that my first encounter with Lego since childhood coincided with that short window they were being produced and sold? And would I be better off looking at somewhere like Boardgamegeek for Lego Games and/or Heroica fandom? Don't want to go blathering on about and posting stuff here, only to find nobody cares about them or even remembers them anymore! :) EDIT: slightly annoyingly, searching for "Heroica" here keeps giving me threads about a totally unrelated forum RPG! :(

    Hi from Banjo

Hi everyone! I've posted a few times sporadically here, but mostly just lurked... but now I want to take a more active part so I thought I'd take the time to make a proper "hello" post (though not as long-winded as my other new post in the Pirates section!). Short version: I'm an Aussie in my late 30's for whom Lego was a huge part of their childhood, but drifted away from it into my own "dark age" until a few years ago. A random buy of a Heroica game set got me curious and interested to buy and build a few other random "regular" sets out of nostalgia, but it was the then-new Alien Conquest theme that made me fall in love with Lego all over again; so *fun* and (for me) mindblowingly different from what was around when I was a kid! After that, I discovered my childhood dream of "Lego Star Wars" actually existed, and the LOTR line was just coming out... and the rest is history. I now own *far* too much Lego at my age, but I love it as much as I did when I was eight years old! Glad to see that I'm not the only "big kid" who feels that way... not by a long shot! :)
