CCC 14 - The Grand Bazaar
Johan the Yellowhead replied to Mark of Falworth's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
This must be one of the most stunning and most beautiful creations I have ever seen. I am in awe! -
After lurking around the forums for a while, it is now time to start contributing! Here, I bring an overview of the modular buildings (pictures moved to new thread here) and my edit of the interior of the Cafe Corner. I hope to be able to make some modular buildings of my own in time... Now, for the promised interior! What's that? No green plate interior? Wait a sec... Someone is in there! On the ground floor, a Friends-like (the sitcom...) cozy corner, a bar and of course an espresso machine! Bird-view... Upstairs, we find two bedrooms for guests. One larger room with a fireplace, the other room a little smaller but with a nice flower. The top floor shows a recreational room with library. I hope you enjoyed watching. Thank you! Feedback is much appreciated!

Great set-up! And what a wonderful idea to make the screen detachable!

Is the free Spiderman Super Jumper set only available in stores or also through online shopping? I wanted to wait ordering the Ferris Wheel until now so I would also receive that set, but it does not show up in my shopping bag...

Layout In another thread of mine where I showed my interior of the Cafe Corner I noticed people are very interested and thrilled to see a group-shot of all the modular buildings. With the photos in a post not all people would necessarily look for them, I decided to make this new thread with more pictures! I first bought Cafe Corner off e-bay some time ago when it was still ‘reasonably’ prized (that said, it was my wife who, through showing me pictures of the CC, pulled me out of my Dark Years!), with the Green Grocer following swiftly. Every since the Fire Brigade, I am ‘on target’, buying them mostly a few weeks after they arrive in stores. After buying the Fire Brigade, I went on a stroll to collect all the pieces for the Market Street, seeing as it was virtually impossible to get it for a decent price at the time. I managed to buy most parts through Pick-a-Brick and the missing parts department of Lego. Throughout the year, my modular buildings are stored safely in the attic, out of the light and partially dust-free (or at least more dust-free then in my other rooms in the house). Every two weeks or so I climb my ladder to wonder at them. Once a year they get their chance to shine, when I bring them down every time I finish a new modular building. Then, I proudly show them to my wife and family or friends who happen to pass by. After two days, I take them back up again, and they will have to wait a whole year to see the light again! Now, for the pics... I hope you enjoy them just as much as I do when I sit in my chair, looking in wonderment! I will try to get a group picture every year once I build the new modular! My future plan is to buy some streets and connect them, creating a nice sidewalk. The corner-shot photo... Hmm, it's light, but where are all the people...? A full-frontal shot! The back alley. Although it is way more simple then the front, I still really enjoy looking at it, seeing the different colors interconnecting perfectly with each other! I envision one day, when the modular buildings come 'full circle', to build a grand park in the middle, with a play ground, trees, water, etc. Bird-view... Gotta love it! Thanks for watching, hope you enjoyed it!

Modular Buildings Together

Hello Farfadette. Seeing as you are a first time poster, I would gladly remind you, you can PM me through Eurobricks.com. Or otherwise you can ask your question through these forums! -
New 2015 sets not showing up on lego site
Johan the Yellowhead replied to kermit's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Nothing here also (Holland), except for a gigantic sale on several (160) items, even on baseplates. Have I missed out on these before? They are all sold out now... -
Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
Johan the Yellowhead replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
Seeing as the hiatus in between the official modulars could take a while, I started collecting the pieces for a Blue Grocer, inspired by the one I saw on Eurobricks. With 1 PaB and 4 BrickLink orders underway, I expect to start building next week. I was able to scratch a lot of pieces from one older modular of mine (especially grey pieces), which left me paying less money than a modular would normally cost. Of course, I did some adjustments to the scarcer pieces, but these will hardly be noticed. Can’t wait to start! -
Lego World 2014 (NL)
Johan the Yellowhead replied to WoutStopmotion's topic in LEGO Events and User Groups
Visited LegoWorld today. Had a blast, but really missed the market. I went out with my wife and 16-month old son, so there was only little time to dig into the part buckets, and now reading of the SW minifigures in there I wish I really paid some closer attention... My wife scored the bulk of stuff, going all out on Friends. Being relatively new in the AFOL community, are there any worth mentioning real-time "markets" in Holland where you can buy parts? -
Brickgrrl's town-on-two-shelves (perpetual WIP)

Can you take a close-up shot of your medieval market village modular? It looks awesome! -
I see you managed Benny. Awesome! That swipe of the spaceship: magnificent! Now, what shall I ask for this time... ;)

Love the way you incorporated some Fabuland pieces in there, if I'm not mistaken...

Love it! You might consider a black piece for the mouth instead of a white? Maybe that will make it look a bit sharper. What's next? Benny and a miniature of his spaceship, spaceship, SPACESHIP?!

Wonderful detail, especially love the water! Although, you might consider removing the drunk dude off the beach...

As owner of all the modulars (and not having made any MOC's or MOD's whatsoever) I still have to agree with Rick. Buying modulars is not an accomplishment, it's just a matter of spending money and following instructions. And although I like the MODded modulars, it really isn't the same thing as someone using his or her own creativity to create a whole new building...

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
Johan the Yellowhead replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
What I have understood so far is it will be a part of the Creator Expert series, which is not limited to modular series. So yes, it might be a Creator Expert set, but no, it does not necessarily mean it is a modular. -
I currently own all modulars, with only Market Street bought via PaB. Since the last year I have started to collect several modulars double, a blur which started when a 50% sale on all Lego sets was in one of our toy stores. In the store itself only the standard sets were on display, but on the web shop of the said store several modulars where available! So then I bought PS and FB again, and Tuesday I ordered a second GE on the Lego shop because of the double VIP-points and the expectation it will be withdrawn. They will be for sale later on or, in case I might win the jackpot, for MODDING...

This set is simply beautiful! Normally I only buy one set when it comes to modulars, but this set has got me thinking... I love the colour-scheme. And the atmospere of it all... It just breaths France! Bonjour, bonjour, restaurant Paris!

Seeing as it is my holiday, I finally have some time to spend on Lego once again. Ever since seeing the Palace Cinema I envisioned making some alternate movie posters. Nothing huge ofcourse, compared to making your own modular building, but something nice to spend time on. There are many very nice lego movie posters around already, and I took the liberty to use them for good purposes! Sadly I am not yet able to show them to you in use at the Palace Cinema, since my wife will not let me unwrap my present until my birthday on august 16th... I've tried out several ways of printing the posters. The most easy way would be on normal blank paper etikets, but that didn't seem to work for me. So I bought some transparent etiket paper and printed the posters on those, which gives a very interesting effect. The posters are clearly visible, yet the interior of the cinema will also stay visible, leaving more room for light in the process! Ofcourse these are not the only posters I've used. Here are the other posters which I will put on the glass windows, possible incorporating them into the set in the near future! (sorry for the picture quality, I took the shots with my phone...)

Alternate Palace Cinema Movie Posters
Johan the Yellowhead replied to Johan the Yellowhead's topic in LEGO Town
Today, I had a nice surprise. My wife saw me working on the posters all day yesterday and decided since it was my holiday, I could have my birthday gift a little early! So today, we build the Palace Cinema together (on a hot steamy 30 degrees celsius day) and ofcourse I immediatly tried out my stickers! Interesting effect. When the top floor is disconnected and an abundance of natural light flows in, the effect I wished to achieve with the transparent stickers works out wonderfully. You can clearly see the posters, yet the inside of the building is also vaguely visible. The effect is hard to catch on camera, but in real life it looks really sweet! See the happy visitor! But... When the building is stacked, the effect is less clearly visible. One probably needs some artificial light from within the building to extent the effect, and even then I am not sure whether this will work or not. Sadly, I did not have the equipment necessary for this at hand. Here are the pictures. Though slightly visible, yet much less clear... So, I leave the decision up to you lot. I think I might keep it the way it is, but I am also going to make some posters on white sticker sheets, just to see how they work out! Hope you enjoyed this little quest!
