[COR - FB] Aspen Adventures, Lacryma

What a beautiful scene! Those yellow hues really translate well into an autumn scene, and the round studs really give the impression of a thick cover of fallen leaves! -
[COR - FB - Ship] Class 5 - HMS Queen
Bregir replied to LM71Blackbird's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
As always, I am happy to see another vessel from the Quinnsville shipyards, and a brick-built one at that! My favourite parts of the brig are the bow and headrails and your raised quarterdeck. It does look a bit funky that the sides converged towards the stern right from the bow backwards. On your next ship, I'd suggest you look into having more or less parallel sides for approximately the space between the fore and main mast. I feel like I am spotting some hinges, but can't really see a tumblehome, which may be a nice challenge for your next brick-built vessel. Your rigging looks good too - you could experiment with custom rigging. It takes a bit of string, but it's good relaxing work. I'd also like to see you try out more realistic masts. Right now, you have the topmast sitting right on top of the mainmast. In reality, they should be staggered, similar to what I have in this picture: The fall of the Resilience by Christian West, on Flickr Overall, excellent brig, sir! May she bring Brickford safely to the east to bring war to our enemies! -
The 1x1 transparant bricks work well for the water - perhaps a dark green or something along those lines underneath instead of light blue would make it look more swampy? I really enjoy the vegetation throughout, and it is really cool that you have placed the building at an angle. Last, but not least, it is tied really well into the world, both the type of settlement, the outcome of the tMRCA, the GoC, and the ETTC. Well done and a big for GoC!

Brethren of the Brick Seas (BoBS) Intro Thread, Era II
Bregir replied to Bregir's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Generally, I'd say the cut-off is the tMRCA deadline. So basically, you can still recruit troops until the deadline, if I understand you correctly. Doesn't seem like there is an issue for you?- 1992 replies

Corrington has long planned to take the fight to the Lotus, so we have been in the process of shipping troops east already. Exactly how far they have gotten, I am not sure until we see the results, which should be under way

Woah, that's an excellent torso for uniforms! I am thinking hussars, but they could be good for almost anything. Might be hard to come by in any quantity, though.- 233 replies

The rules for hideouts have been simplified, and once a hideout is established, you no longer need to post builds to keep it active. This is also an opportunity to remind the good people of BoBS of this nice little feature, so very effective for black flaggers not wanting to risk going into an unfriendly port! Some aspects have been clarified too:

Looks excellent! -
Oh, I hear ya. Writing stories is tough work. What I would suggest is to start with where the ship is built, who is the captain and owner, who will it sail with, what will it do, etc. That can typically kick-start a small story, that helps the build come alive

[OL-FB] Troop Raising-Crown Battery
Bregir replied to Jeff of Clubs's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Looks good - a very nicely built scene, and I like the limber and carriage for the gun - it looks like a heavy piece. It doesn't look like you've bungled anything. I think some of your pictures may be overexposed, though - the white limber is very lit up to the extend it is hard to make out the details.- 7 replies

A very impressive ship. A few notes on posting. It is perfectly fine to post the ship elsewhere too, but we need a post here if the ship is to be used in bobs. That is to make sure it is part of bobs, that people know it exists, and to give it a story. Remember, ships are not just a mechanical thing to optimise the mrca. It is a living breathing part of our world. BoBS is a collective story building effort, and the builds are part of building the world of bobs. So I encourage you to give the ship a small story in BoBS. It is interesting to hear your comments on how it was built, what details you like, etc. I would ask that you consider whether the following comment and the big link to another forum is really the optimal way to add to BoBS. The link is perfectly fine, but I would suggest you add it last. Generally, I start with the story of this ship, then the practical stuff (such as class), and lastly OOC comments on the ship. I would suggest you consider something similar, and thus focus first on the things that are most relevant for BOBS.

From what I see, she is looking quite nice. If I were you, I would consider whether the upper bow piece is a help or a hindrance for you. It may be either, but as the transition from sides to the bow and stern are typically the hardest part of any vessel to build, make sure you keep your options open. -
Fun little story, Evan - I wonder what Brickletons purposes are for the women of Wullham? Overall, a very good build - what really draws my attention is the various details in the walls, both lower and upper parts. Excellent furniture too.

I think your guns look excellent, and wouldn't personally use the premade guns with these. But I agree with NOD that the size difference is not super evident. Both designs are super nice though! I think you will optimally go for a more distinctive difference between the three decks. Say 36 pounders on the lower decks, 24 or 18 pounders on the middle deck, and 9 or 6 pounders on the upper decks. So if you could design more distinctive differences, that would be icing on the cake. I would say, though, that this is excellent work! I really like what you have here! -
During the recent conflict on Terraversa, Cooke had been through quite an ordeal. Having landed in the dark of night at the center of an Oleonese insurrection, he gave himself in to the local authorities after failing to escape the settlement. Being subjected to a long and taxing interrogation, he was transferred to Kings Port in disgrace under accusations of being a spy, where he languished in jail, until the storm on Kings Port posed for him an opportunity to escape. Having travelled across wartorn Terraversa, and been on the brink of capture, he was finally found by his countrymen. After a short recovery, he returned to duty, assisting in the fortification of South Silitholina. Shortly thereafter, though, he had fallen ill with a malady most likely contracted in the dungeons of Kings Port, striking him down with a dangerous fever. Montoya had called upon his full medical facilities, but had feared for his friend. To avoid the spread of the disease, he had been isolated in the Pine Island Monastery, the very same place diplomatic talks was being held. "My dear friend, you are up and about! What joy!" Montoya exclaimed. "Truth be told, I had feared for your existence." And after a pause... "Young Baker and I have taken turns to sit at your bedside... In your feverish rantings, you said some rather... indiscreet things that we could not let others hear." "I thank you much for your attentions, Isaac. I am certain I owe my survival to your care and competence." Cooke stretched and sat up. "How long have I been indisposed? My body feels weak and spent." "Longer than I care for, longer than I care for. The squadron has sailed. The Greyhound has been passed on. You are still on Terraversa, and apart from the Lotus Empire, we are at peace." A look of dismay came over Cooke. "I am without a ship? I must have a ship! Glory will slip through our fingers if I cannot regain a quarterdeck!" "Calm yourself, my friend. You are not yet your old powerful self... Give it a few days..." Montoya tried to calm his friend. "I know for certain a ship has recently arrived in Westface without a captain, so no need to rush yerself." Picking up his uniform, hat, and sword, Cooke headed for the door, dressing hastily and motioning Montoya to follow. "A ship, you say! In such case, there is not a moment to lose! Time and tide waits for no man!" _______________________________________________________ After a prolonged absence I am returned! And for that, a suitable story an trying to recreate Ayrlego's awesome Pine Island Monastery seemed just perfect!

[COR - Gunboats for the Colonies] Gun Sloop - Class 2
Bregir replied to Justsomebrix's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Perfect. I will have it licensed. Once the next aMRCA turn opens up, you submit orders in the tMRCA form for what the vessel should do during that turn. Typically, a gunboat will "just" be patrolling the zone around the settlement, targeting current enemies of Corrington. They have been quite effective in the past at that. And of course, we are happy to help you, if you have any questions! On that, have you considered what stats you'd like for the gunsloop? You can read about the different stats here. In fact, I suggest you license it yourself through this form: Ship Licence Form. Just make sure you put "Spudkirk" under "account managing this ship". I'll be happy to help if you have any questions to the stats or the process :) -
I agree with Cap here. This could be an educational diorama at a museum, and your descriptions really underline this. It seems like you have done your homework, and this is hands down the best fort I have seen in LEGO, and that is saying a lot. Stellar work! Aurelia will certainly not be an easy target should we ever, Gods forbid, end up at war!

[COR - Gunboats for the Colonies] Gun Sloop - Class 2
Bregir replied to Justsomebrix's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Excellent gunboat! I like the idea of it being manned by volunteers led by navy officers/warrant officers. Her overall shape is very nice and the setup with minifigs looks very lively. I think you mast is a bit too tall, carrying the yard to high. With a lateen, you often have a fairly short mast with a very long yard. I also really like that you have included some form of slide or reinforced platform for the heavy gun. The gunboat will be licensed by the faction (only one per moc at the time) or potentially the settlement of Spudkirk. @Spud The Viking I suggest we license this in the name of Spudkirk? If you approve, I will do so. @Justsomebrix can take care of her orders, if you prefer, or I can do it as a general navy command. -

Very interesting build, kicking off what could be a very interesting story! I shall be looking forward to potentially hunting that damned spy through the streets of Jameston, or whatever becomes relevant In all seriousness, I really like the idea of some sort of shadow organisation employing soldiers on the fringe of society for more unsavoury tasks - this will be interesting to follow! -
