I wasn't fooled for a minute. I automatically raise my skepticism to the max this day each year. Seriously though, that's a really good edit. I like it. I'm not joking about that. -Toa Of Justice P.S. It would be nice if this book were real though...

Awesome work, CoolerTD! I think your MOC has just raised the bar for creativity with only simple bricks and plates. Best of luck in the contest! -Toa Of Justice

Thanks for the pics, whung! The Lambo Police Car looks really cool so far! -Toa Of Justice

Review: 30050 MINI Republic Attack Shuttle
Toa_Of_Justice replied to Big Cam's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Clean out all of these BrickLink sellers' supplies, that's how! Also, you can try eBay. Altogether, it might not be a zillion, but it's pretty close! WARNING: Shipping and handling costs may add up quickly. -Toa Of Justice EDIT: Alternatively, you could take a trip to the USA and clean out several Targets' worth of stock. You might save money on shipping fees that way, but those savings could be offset by airline, rental car, and hotel fees. -
Review: 30050 MINI Republic Attack Shuttle
Toa_Of_Justice replied to Big Cam's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Nice review! I bought that set mainly for the pieces, but I really like the structure of the cockpit and rear engines, as well as the adjustable guns up front (are they adjustable on the real ship?) and the folding wings. I gave this set a 4/5 due to its somewhat simple design and spots of bright red that I wish were dark red instead. Nevertheless, I like the Mini Republic Attack Shuttle a lot! -Toa Of Justice -
Awesome model! It looks like it could be a Brickmaster exclusive model (if it was, I would sign up right away)! -Toa Of Justice

In my humble opinion, I think LEGO designed the promotional Racers sets like that in order to cut production costs. Cutting costs seems to be especially important for "free giveaway" promotional sets because LEGO isn't making as much money off them as they are from sets you would typically find in a store. -Toa Of Justice

MOC Red Hawk Rescue Helicopter
Toa_Of_Justice replied to allanp's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I really like your flying machine, allanp! Best of luck in the LEGO Technic Challenge Competition! I think this topic is worthy of the front-page! -Toa Of Justice -
I managed to build my 8072 Sea Jet in the bag. I even modified it to have lights on both sides. That is not very evident in the picture though. Basically, what I did is mount the lamp holder underneath the vehicle and put a clear 1x1 round plate on both sides of it. To fill in the place where the lamp used to be, I added the extra gray 1x1 round plate (to mirror the other side). Finally, I added the extra lime 1x1 round plate to the bottom of the Sea Jet to balance out my lights up front. Full Resolution Version (3072x2048, ~3 MB) Who knows what lies beyond the mouth of that easy-chair-cave... Enjoy! -Toa Of Justice

Thank you very much, rupi! I'll be sure to let you know if I get confused with the building anywhere. When I finish the model, is it OK if I upload it to Brickshelf and/or LEGO's design byME gallery? Or shall I just give you the model (i.e., attach it to a post or PM) to upload yourself? -Toa Of Justice

That is an awesome race car, rupi! Can I download your model in a virtual format (e.g., LDD or LDRAW)? If not, is it OK if I make a virtual version of your race car and upload it to Brickshelf and/or the design byME gallery? Or would you rather do that yourself? If you let me do it for you, I will promise to give you credit in both the file name and the description. If you don't want me to upload your model anywhere, may I please just re-create a copy of your car in LDD and/or MLCAD for myself? -Toa Of Justice

New TECHNIC-esque set discovered!
Toa_Of_Justice posted a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
FAIR WARNING: If you don't like mixing LEGO bricks with (seemingly) non-LEGO elements, you might want to turn back! What do you get when you cross LEGO with Erector? TETRIX. I recently received this really cool set from my former high school robotics teacher as a 21st birthday present. Has anyone here heard of it before? Note: If you're wondering about the price, it's because the product can only be bought in cases of 25 ($5 per item * 25 items per case = $125) each. The point is to sell each one for a little more than $5 in order to make a profit. ($_$) -Toa Of Justice -
New TECHNIC-esque set discovered!
Toa_Of_Justice replied to Toa_Of_Justice's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Actually, I think TETRIX is very worthy of LEGO. In fact, I wouldn't mind seeing a few TETRIX elements in some regular LEGO TECHNIC models (that you don't have to be an educator to buy) someday. My warning at the beginning of the topic was intended for hardcore LEGO purists that would get ticked off at seeing something that didn't really look like a traditional LEGO element on a model. -Toa Of Justice -
Little Devil
Toa_Of_Justice replied to Jurgen Krooshoop's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
That's a fantastic model! I wish that LEGO would release an RC car very much like what you built, Jurgen Krooshoop! -Toa Of Justice P.S. Unfortunately, the Brickshelf link is broken--here is the correct page. -
Great job! My favorites are the Havoc and the TIE Advanced. I wish those were real LEGO sets, especially the TIE Advanced! -Toa Of Justice

It's nice to see the internal palette, but I do wish it wasn't in lossy JPG format. Some of the colors have obvious "stains" on them, especially #102 (Medium Blue). -Toa Of Justice EDIT: A higher-quality PNG version of the palette was posted at Brickset! *grin*

I see it now. Thanks! That is a very clever build. By the way, how hard was it to invert the rear tires? I tried it myself, and it was very hard to do, but I was eventually able to do it. -Toa Of Justice
-
Great job! My favorite parts are the quadruple exhaust pipes, the inverted rear tires, and the front end. Could you please provide either instructions or at least an exploded view? I am very curious as to how you managed to attach the side elements to the rest of the vehicle (especially near the center). -Toa Of Justice

I ended up choosing the gray one (Shadow) as my favorite. I also like the white one (Royal) though. I think the green ninja (Agile) is quite unique, but I think his green is too bright--he should have been dark green. Too bad dark green did not come around as a regular color until 2004 (source: this Bricklink page, sorted by year). -Toa Of Justice

This is a very nice MOC. I especially like how the outriggers come out from the crane rather than the whole truck. However, I wonder where the outriggers' remaining pieces go when they are folded back into the truck. -Toa Of Justice EDIT: Thanks for fixing the Flickr link, dr_spock. I really like the ability of the crane to stand alone and mount to crawler tracks!

Telehandler - 11 motors !
Toa_Of_Justice replied to Fistach's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Wow, that seems pretty strong for a LEGO model! My main concern was that since your model is so complex, you might have been saddened by a very heavy load breaking the boom and falling on top of the model, causing massive damage and requiring major repairs. I was thinking that you could add another battery pack for more power to lift heavier loads, since you can only get 15 minutes at a time. On the other hand, you could just remove a motor or two to save power, but then the topic title would have to change... -Toa Of Justice P.S. Michael Moore is known for making movies about American political and social topics. Here is his Wikipedia page. -
Telehandler - 11 motors !
Toa_Of_Justice replied to Fistach's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I agree completely. I especially like the interior lighting! Intact, how much do you think your telehandler can lift? I would understand if you don't want to risk breaking the model with unknown weights on the forks. -Toa Of Justice -
I agree with this post. By the way, speaking of Thunderbirds, I was listening to the Thunderbirds theme song as I was reading this topic. I thought it would be great music for RES-Q. -Toa Of Justice

Thanks for this review, KimT! After comparing the new ARC-170 Starfighter to the original, I personally like the original better, but the new one is cool too. I am very curious about those transparent 2x2 dishes on the engines of the new version--are they in a new color? I don't remember seeing those in trans-purple (or are they trans-pink?) before. -Toa Of Justice
