  1. I made a small lightbox a while back. woof It's definitely the best Lego photography environment I've had, though it's not perfect. Because of it's open top, I have to shine the florescent lamp directly at the subject, which is not ideal lighting, even though it still helps visibility a lot. I think I need a way to reflect the light instead. Any ideas on how to go about that?

    Lego 4207 City Garage review

I'm loving those new tall support beams. They're like the ones from Jack Stone sets, only way better. And those new wheels are beautiful :o Very cool set, and it's nice to see something truly unique for LEGO City. :3 OH YES PLEASE. though this doesn't look much taller than the modular buildings. How tall is it compared to those?
  3. Shortcut to Part One: Hero Factory Shortcut to Part Two: Ninjago Shortcut to Part Three: City This year, Aanchir and I were invited to attend Toy Fair representing BIONICLEsector01 and HEROsector 01. Since our sites' normal coverage doesn't extend outside the constraction themes, we reached an agreement with Eurobricks to share with them our coverage of the LEGO Collectors Preview and all the sets and themes on display. Part three of our coverage shall cover two themes: LEGO Dino and LEGO Monster Fighters. The former theme consists entirely of sets already released, but Monster Fighters is new, and scheduled for release in August. Dino The Dino theme features dinosaurs and a team of humans tasked to stop the breakout of dinosaurs from attacking the city. Each set includes unique dinosaur figures and minifigs with vehicles and bases to capture the loose dinosaurs. The 2012 press guide refers to this theme as "iconic" and "an evergreen in construction." Exactly what they mean by this, we are not sure, but it would seem that this line may be treated like a classic, and we may expect more dinosaur-themed sets in the future. 5882 Ambush Attack 80 pieces USD 11.99 CAD 14.99 Other currencies from Brickset Features a minifigure with an off-road vehicle, a coelophysis, and a small patch of landscape. It's the smallest set in the series, but it has a nice amount of content for its price. 5883 Tower Takedown 136 pieces USD 19.99 CAD 24.99 Other currencies from Brickset Includes a small tower base with a dock, a watercraft, one minifigure and pteranodon. Atop the tower is a turret for launching a net trap. 5884 Raptor Chase 259 pieces USD 29.99 CAD 39.99 Other currencies from Brickset Includes a large off-road vehicle, two minifigure, a green raptor figure, and a small base with landscape. The vehicle contains many features, including a turret with a lasso with bait and flick-fire missles. 5885 Triceratops Trapper 271 pieces USD 49.99 CAD 64.99 Other currencies from Brickset Comes with two minifigures, a triceratops, and a large truck for carrying dinoaurs. The truck is specially designed to fit the triceratops, but could easily fit raptors and coelophysi, and perhaps a t-rex. 5886 T-Rex Hunter 480 pieces USD 69.99 CAD 89.99 Other currencies from Brickset Features a large helicopter with two minifigures, a buggy with a trailer, and a large tyrannosaurus rex. The helicopter features a crane for carrying the t-rex. 5887 Dino Defense HQ 793 pieces USD 99.99 CAD 129.99 Other currencies from Brickset The largest set; includes a full headquarters, four minifigures, three dinosaurs (t-rex, raptor, coelophysis), a helicopter and a small jeep. The headquarters is mostly a large cage for dinosaurs, with a control tower, a helicopter landing pad, a crane with a net, and a turret with flick-fire missles. Monster Fighters A new theme to be released in August 2012, Monster Fighters is a line in which a team of "Monster Fighters" who combat classic monsters such as mummies, werewolves and vampires. Each set features a different type of monster, and each includes unique "moonstones", which are collectibles similar in concept to the rings in Atlants or the golden artifacts in Pharaoh's Quest. 9461 The Swamp Creature 70 pieces USD 6.99 CAD 9.99 A small set; includes a hovercraft, a piece of swampish landscape, and two minifugres, one monster fighter and a Swamp Creature, and a moonstone. The Swamp Creature is an interesting minifigure, to be sure. 9462 The Mummy 90 pieces USD 11.99 CAD 14.99 Includes a minature helicopter, a chariot pulled by a skelital horse, one monster fighter and the Mummy, and a moonstone. The Mummy's chariot is rather impressive, but the helicopter is less interesting. The Mummy looks similar to the collectible series 3 mummy, though this is a brand new figure, with gray skin and new torso and leg prints. 9463 The Werewolf 243 pieces USD 19.99 CAD 24.99 Features a nice car, a spooky tree with an alter for a moonstone, one monster fighter and one Werewolf. The tree would appear to have soem sort of function, as some branches are attached with technice pieces, and there is a lever of sorts in the back. The new Werewolf figure is very nice, especially compared to the old one from LEGO Studios, and includes the same claws used on Wolverine. 9464 The Vampire Hearse 314 pieces USD 34.99 CAD 44.99 Includes a small motorcycle, a large car, one monster fighter, a Vampire (Read: Dracula) and a Zombie driver. The Hearse looks very cool, with nice details and decals. The monster fighter in this set is a very cool figure, including a new robotic leg piece. The new Vampire figure is very nice too. 9466 The Mad Scientist and His Monster 427 pieces USD 49.99 CAD 64.99 Includes a full labratory, a large car, two monster fighters, a mad scientist and a monster (both clearly based on Frankenstein). The labratory is full of cool features, including a laser (which appears to include a light brick), a bed for the Monster that can be angled with gears, and a prisson. The car looks awkward, but has a alot of nice features, including a lot of missles. 9467 The Ghost Train 741 pieces USD 79.99 CAD 99.99 Features a ghsot train with three cars, a propellor plane, two monster fighters and three ghsots. The plane includes flick-fire missiles and some kind of barrel with hoses (A vacuum ala Ghostbusters, perhaps?). The Train is not designed to work on traditional LEGO tracks, but engine uses regular LEGO train wheels, and thus could theoretically be used on regular tracks. The ghosts use a new type of glow-in-the-dark plastic, whcih appears whiter than previous GITD plastics when in light. 9468 Vampire Castle 949 pieces USD 99.99 CAD 129.99 The largest set, featuring Dracula the Vampire's castle, a car with a net-launcher in the back, two monster fighters, one male and one female vampire, and two man-bats. The castle has a plethora of nice features, including an interior, a spiked pit trap, an organ, and more. Of particular note is the castle's clocktower. The face of the "clock" has slots for each of the six moonstones, which can be spun by a knob in the back, or unfolded by pushing the knob inward. It's a very nice feature, and includes great new technic parts too. Our next part shall cover the new LEGO Super Hero sets. Stay Tuned!

    MOC: Chols The Wolf (Selfmoc)

Aye, I'm very glad to have finally completed it too. :3 I'm also quite fond of the paws. That was where the moc originally started. I was messing around with parts when I realized I could make a paw that resembled both a foot and a hand, and it all kinda flowed from there. Seems like most people prefer the quad form more. I guess that makes sense, as it looks a bit more consistent that way. Personally I have no preference. I like it both ways. c: Actually, the connection on the tail is pretty lose (perhaps too loose, the axles are kinda falling out right now x_x), so there's very little stress on the sockets. If you were to turn the beam inside the socket a lot (and I mean a LOT), you could risk breaking them, but it would take a significant amount of force, and you probably wouldn't even need to turn it that far. It's actually a pretty good technique IMO; it's worth giving a shot (I recommend using liftarms instead of beams though, to avoid axles falling out).
  6. Flickr | Brickshelf I guess this moc needs a brief explanation... I'm sure you're all familiar with the concept of a "selfmoc", a moc which serves as a persona for its creator. It's a great concept really, though until now I had never been inspired to make one for myself. Recently, I've had a growing interest in the furry fandom, a creative community based on the concept of anthropomorphic animals. Furry personas, or fursonas, are very popular among furries. So I thought it would be fun to take both concepts and combine them. :D Anyway, yes, this is a moc of myself as a wolf. I'm quite satisfied with the moc, but as a fursona, it's more of a beginning concept, which I intend to build upon later. Also, this moc was designed to be both an anthro wolf and normal wolf. This meant altering the body proportions a bit to accommodate both forms, but I believe the results were worth it. That's all. Looking forward to your feedback. Love y'all. :3

It wouldn't make sense for them to be a first and last name. The latter name is clearly stated to be a team name Recon Team Alpha", so they should refer to one team. I'm gonna bet that Alpha is the correct name and Omega was a mistake. "Alpha" is used in the body of the article, which was likely written first, and whoever added the title made an oversight.
  8. I am not pleased with this new upgrade. Also I find it kinda funny that Bionicle fans have always been demanding new purple sets, and now they we finally have one, nobody seems to like it. :P Yeah, voltix is a bit jumbled, but certainly has value in its parts.

    Uh ... Hi

I dunno why I never signed up here before, but hey, better late than never. I'm Chols. I'm a moccist and staff member of BIONICLEsector01 since 2008. I guess that's all there is to say really. Hope to get to know y'all. :3

    Hero Factory 2012

Any idea what this book will be like? Is it a story, or more of an information guide? I'm hoping for the latter, personally. Given the description and title, plus the lack of a true author name, it looks like a guide. This might be a good thing too, especially if they elaborate on the Makuhero parts mentioned in the description.

    Your weirdest MOCs?

I don't really have a lot of mocs I consider "weird". Looking back though, I've made some pretty strange things. This device was supposed to be a tool of sorts. The problem? The Lego pieces were too weak and it failed to work no matter what. Turns out I was able to fix the problem with my hands. Why I even created a tool for the job, I don't know. :| And then there's this thing. It was basically just an experiment in parts usage. Eventually it was just too awkward and I had to abandon it. That unfinished moc is still sitting around in my room, four years later. I'm honestly not sure what I want to do with it.
  14. XT4 is just too quirky for me. Nice concept, but he looks kinda jumbled. Not to mention I don't feel a lot of desire for so many light gray limbs when dark gray is more versatile for constraction mocs. I would actually prefer if Stormer's chest was stickered. It's such a nice big piece, it could be used for much more than just a chest. (Heck, I don't think I'd ever make a moc with a chest that size.) Though I'd be fine with prints too.
  15. It's possible that those stickers are preliminary. Many models at the event had stickers in place of actual prints. The preliminary box art does not even include a chest print or stickers, so it's possible they were added later into production and will be made into a print later on. I'm very impressed by this lineup. I already plan to get Bulk, and perhaps Core Hunter too. Stringer also looks quite impressive. :3

I'm still bummed that Stringer is not dark blue. :< But man the new set does look really good.

I love you too Dory. c: I'm in the process of scanning the press guide I got from Toy Fair. It will NOT be published publicly (I don't think that would be legal), but we definitely plan to share more information from it in BS01/HS01's upcoming coverage. Summer 2012 is looking pretty promising for Hero Factory. I'm quite excited. :3
