Maybe it be easier to play into our lack of creativity for those ships The One Love The Two Cents - lost The Three Pigs :)

    New features to the MRCA

To be perfectly honest, if this turns into a GoH overnight I won't bother participating anymore. Don't get me wrong: I am hoping to use the feedback received to improve my future builds, but at the moment most of my work is done over an evening or two once the kids are asleep. This is something I'm doing to unwind after a long day, not to impress judges, and improve my knowledge of building techniques over time in the process. I had never used a SNOT technique before last month and now I studying Capt Greenhair's notes on shipbuilding; things I'd never would have done if not for my joining BoBS/EB community for the sheer fun of it. You want a prime example of casual improvement: look at GulagUrag's first ship versus his second ship. Had his first ship simply been rejected out of hand, do you think he'd have stuck around? Having said that, I understand some of the highly skilled builders would like to see the standard raised. Sir Stig's stuff amazes me very time he posts (sorry for trying to raid Bardo btw; nothing personal, just business). I personally can't attain that level right now (skill and collection wise) but I want to eventually. And I agree there should be an avenue to showcase that talent. Perhaps the Challenges should be the avenue for this, where entries need to approved prior to being accepted for submission and the in and/or out of game reward is something significant to reflect the effort. Maybe even a "Hall of Fame/Best of BoBS" sticky with the winning/worthy entries. TLDR version:An arbitrary committee rejecting submissions is a bad idea to me. Challenges become a strict showcase of skill, with significant reward attached, is my proposed solution. TLDR TLDR version: stick = bad, carrot = good

    [OL-FB1] Baron Nicolas' workroom

I'll echo the others in that I love that pipe. Very well done room décor as well.
  6. Laurent Dugay lives at the edge of Lowtown in a small shack on a sandy spit of land, which he has built with whatever drift wood and debris he has come across. He lives a simple life. Every day he walks along the shoreline, casting his net in the and selling his extra fish at market for a few coins; coins used to buy a bottle of grog now and again. This build came about while playing with my 5 y.o. son and his collection (we have separate collections of course) this past weekend, when it dawned on me that Spiderman's web would make a great fishing net. I have to admit, building 'ramshackle' has proved far more challenging for me than I thought it would. Property: Small residence Status: Licensed small residence in Charlatan Bay's Lowtown
  7. Previous installment in the storyline Upon returning from Bastion alongside Amara, Captain Meloche agreed with his subordinates assessment and declared the area suitable for establishing their clandestine base of operations. It offered a suitable cove off a bay for use as a harbour and the dense jungle surrounding the beaches would allow for a quick disappearance in the event a nation should decide to confront them with a sizable force. However, while it was a secret now, Meloche knew that the location of this new lair would eventually spread; regardless of threat, a sailor's tongue tended to loosen in the presence of rum and warm company. So precautions must be taken lest they be caught unawares. Master Gunner Aron Fox was given a detail and ordered out into the jungle. There, on the small rise near the mouth of Charlatan Bay, he set up a small battery of 12 lb long guns, cleverly concealed in the dense foliage. Without a working lumber mill as yet in the nascent colony, a series of gambion baskets were quickly constructed and filled with locally mined surface rock to protect gun crews against return fire. And as an added measure, the cunning Mr. Fox built some small, mud brick forges, which he had worked day and night in order to keep his shot red hot. While this added an extra degree to labour (as well as safety concerns) to the harbour sentries' duties, the chance to ambush an incoming ship with cannon fire capable of lighting sails & rigging or firing a powder magazine made it well worth it to the ever laughing sniper. This may be licensed in the future as a small (and extremely frugal) fort.
  8. This is a very fine accomplishment Maxim. I'm still in the initial Bricklinking (yes, it can be verb) stages of my two decker. Give me 6 month and you'll have a proper dance partner. It will likely take that long to save up the license fee anyway.

I think that is only half of it. The EGS rules encourage rapid expansion of colonies with the licensing rules of 2/3 per month, so those playing the economic game will obviously feel obliged to push to that limit which means rushed projects in abundance. If the monthly property licensing limits are reduced, the personal ship limit reduced, and the mayor's pay eliminated or reduced, I think you'll get better results. This might have to be applied retroactively mind you so that early adopters are not given to much of a head start. Having said that, we're only 2.5 months in (I started a month late myself). Personally, I know that my collection is lacking in certain bricks required to produce polished MOCs (e.g. earth tones, tiles, classic style windows and doors, ship bits) but Bricklink/B&P orders only arrive so quickly. That should be taken into consideration this early into things.

  17. Nice looking tavern scene.
  18. February 2016 MCRA Official Result: Escort went off without a hitch ==== “Captain, the convoy leader is signalling to make sail” “Well then raise sail Mr. Moore and take our station. I’ll be in study and I’d trust you’ll not disturb me unless it be an absolute necessity.” “Captain, the convoy has reached our first port!” “Quit your yappin and let me get back to what I was doin’.” “Captain, the convoy has engaged a ship!” “I SAID I WAS NOT TO BE DISTURBED, YA FECKLESS INGRATE!” “Captain, the Poseidon’s Wrath has just foundered in the storm!” “zzzz” “Captain, the convoy has reached our second port of call!” “That’s fine Mr. Clarence. Send for the cabin boy and Mr. Axel." "Axel, my long time friend, I finally found the clue I have been searching for all these long years. It was hidden in the first accounting of Bishop Millars' prophecies. Have a gander and tell me what you think.” ”CAPTAIN! This is madness! You can’t follow this course. It’s unconscionable. It goes against all that the worship of the Patheon stands for. I can’t be a part of this!” “Are you sure of this Mr. Axel?” “Emil, I’ve known you for over 15 years. But if you are set on doing this, we’ll need to part ways. I'm sorry.” “I see. Well, fair thee well then.” “Boy, fetch the bosun an tell him to have this mess heaved over the side. Then inform Mr. Moore to signal Captain Amara to come aboard.” “But Captain, Amara’s ship went down in the hurricane three days ago.” “Did it now? Well, then… Mr. Moore! Set our heading back towards whence we came and collect that luckless harpy Amara. She and I need to be having a discussion on a venture I have in mind.” "AND FETCH ME SOME MORE RUM!" ==== Story so far: Introduction The Donatus The Propehcy [by Gulagurag] The Poseidon's Wrath [by Gulagurag]
  19. That was a great story build and an interesting take on the challenge. Well done.
  20. The Heldenbergs were washed along the eastern seas like so much jetsam, having fled their home country of Mardier after having been persecuted for their religious beliefs . Upon finally finding a safe haven, they continued to do what they had always done: bake. While selling bread and pies to their neighbours and friends, this industrious dockside bakery primarily caters to sea captains looking to resupply. They produce barrels of hard biscuits at a prodigious pace in order to meet the demand of the free captains looking to replenish their stores before they return to the sea for another cruise. This build represents a small commercial bakery/victualer. I'd prefer to eventually license it as a factory as opposed to an artisan property since it is a commercial venture, but I'll abide by the ruling of the higher ups when it gets to that point. Property: Small factory Status: Licensed

Dang Dr Spock. Could you lower that bar back down a bit?
  22. Clever idea regarding Le Dindon. I can't wait for Vedauwoo's reaction.
  23. Gorgeous detail on the ship. Well done!
  24. My kids own those books. I just happen to 'borrow' them while they're asleep. ;). My wife does think I have issues as a result though. As matter of fact, my son was complaining about my appropriating Axel for the last few weeks as my big hulking side kick, so I wrote him out of the story.
