Lightningtiger - before joining Eurobricks, your creations on Brickshelf always grabbed my attention. I love the way you capture the Australia atmosphere, yet are able to achieve the playable nature of LEGO sets. And once again, this hardware store fits in perfectly. Looking forward to seeing more creations. Cheers, Tim

Hi Warick, Registrations will be opening for the Sydney Brick Show in March! We are finalising the maximum size of displays, rules and criteria for exhibits and hope to have information available for everyone very soon. There will be age categories, thus the question on your age was asked. Multiple requests are coming in everyday and we are trying to get through them as quickly as we can. I work 6 days per week (not connected to the internet), so it is tough to keep up with all the emails coming in. Regards, Tim

9398 - Lego Technic 4x4 Crawler
cossack225 replied to AndroTech's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
A all wheel drive dune buggy with power puller wheels where I took the current limiter out of the battery box, used multiple ir receivers in parallel and still wondered why the buggy would stall on hills. I have an xl motor that I have removed the temp sensor. I planned to test it out, but decided to BUild another truck trial using nxt servo motors from mindsensors.com -
The Gowings Building - My version of a Grand Department Store

I am not sure why the photo is not appearing as I can see them, when logged in or out of Eurobricks. You can see the main pic in my Flickr account. I will try to upload more tonight. Unfortunately, "Clcwong", I am yet to finish the lift, but will post some photos of my progress thus far. Regards, Tim -
The Gowings Building - My version of a Grand Department Store
cossack225 posted a topic in LEGO Town
B-OV-26D The Grand Emporium was a good set, but lacked the grandeur of a true department store. In 1868, John Gowing opened a business in Sydney. It quickly grew and in the 1920's the family purchased a block of land on the corner of Market Street and George Street in Sydney. There, they invested in a department store and built the one of the tallest buildings in Sydney at the time. In 2006, The Gowings Retail flagship store in Sydney city shut its doors to the public after an unsuccessful bid to launch stores in Suburban Sydney. The actual Gowings building is currently being refurbished into another retailer on the first three floors and a boutique restaurant on the levels above. My Creations is a representation of the beautiful building, attempting to capture the overall look of the building, though does not accurately capture the scale, lift shafts, or the style of architecture. However, I am happy with the outcome and content with the model that has taken two years to get off the ground. I have chosen the "time" of my creation as to how I remember the building in 2004 with the first 3 floors housing the Gowings Department Store (Ground, Level 1 and Level 2). From there, my creative expression has taken over with; Level 3: a Sumo match with spectators, Level 4: Piano Bar Level 5: ABS Medical Clinic - "Absolute Health" Level 6: ABS Bank - "We keep your money safe" Level 7: Minifig Expressions - Where minifigs update their faces Level 8: A weapon emporium Level 9: A jewellery store Level 10: Penthouse (lower) under construction Level 11: Penthouse (upper) under construction Other than the penthouse, all floors have staircases linking them together. The crane stands above it, providing workmen assistance to install the new lift and complete the penthouse residence. The lift will stop at Ground, Lv 3, 5, 7 and 10. The lift (motorised and with automatic doors) will be complete for the Sydney Brick Show to be held on 2nd & 3rd June in Sydney. The attached picture is of the Cityscape by J.P. Manalo and myself. We won Best Town MOC at Brickvention 2012 in Melbourne. More pictures will be posted soon! See for in my Flickr Account -
Hi Steinkopf, Your models are really amazing. Is it possible to see a couple of photos of the interior? Have you gone to town with the details on the inside as you have on the outside? Tim

I will be displaying a displaying a few Sydney Buildings - one of them nearly 2m tall in Minifig scale. I will also be displaying a train layout with an RC dock. Tim

The problem I find with the xl motors is the temp sensor in them limits them long before they reach their stall current - though the battery box and IR receiver can't deliver the stall current either. I hope the new motor has better performance and possibly not limited so much in comparison to the current XL motor. Thank you Technic designers! I can't wait for the this set to be released! Tim -
cossack225 started following Replacing 9V Train Motor
-
Hi all, I have done the unthinkable and burnt out a 9V Motor. Last year I experiemented with DCC and was please with the potential. However as I always tinker with everything I took the voltage limiter off preventing over voltage. My 8 car metroliner was happily running at 12 volts without much heat generation from the 9v motor, but at about 13V the motor shorted out and destroyed both the DCC chip and the motor. As both are prices about $45 AUD, it was very annoying. The casing for the motor is fine so I was wonderin if anyone has previously replaced just the actual motor as I have a few older 9v train motors where the motors are starting to wear out but the wheels and casings are still in pretty good nick. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated as I have tried various websites and hobby shops in Sydney. Thanks, Tim

Hi all, Tim from Sydney Australia. Got my first train in 1990 and never stopped collecting. These days I am looking at using mindstorms to control a whole layout with 9v track blocks all controlled by H bridges, automated points and signalling. I am also trying to make some 9v slips as well. Would be interested if anyone has had success with 9v slips before I start cutting up these rare sets. Look forward to joining the discussion. Regards, Tim

I like the use of the thin lift arm below the plate - that will reduce some of the friction issues I have been having with the technic plates. I have used Part x928cx1 Technic, Axle Connector Rectangular Triple Spring-Loaded for a steering centre. I have found it works well with a micro motor - though I haven't looked at how much current the mircomotor needs to turn against the spring (I often test these things to prevent burnout of the old motors). The PF M motors also works well with x928cx1, but don't try to gear the motor down. I try to put motors in everything. Cheers, Tim
