I have already started rebuilding mine to add more historical accuracy... Here are some comparison shots to the original:

I had that same problem... I ended up connecting the string 1 stud closer to the front of the elevators... Works pretty well now... Overall I am really impressed with the kit. I like the wheel carrage of the first Sopwith better and think they should have added a little more height to the fusalage profile... But still a great set!

Thankyou! It is just a snot technique using slopes... Can be seen here...

Thanks for all the praises everyone! I decided not to clutter the deck and leave them off.

Ship-of-the-Line Under Construction

Are you planning on making the wall removable? -
Nope, just trying to be helpful. That stiching wasnt possible to do on the machine unless you have a special machine. And the cost is managable when spread out over 7 months

That's a great looking hull! Excellent improvement!

Wow thanks for all the complements everyone! It was a fun project, but have to say I am happy to be done with it. I have to give thanks to my wife for her help with the sails, that's her excellent sowing machine work. I did the flags by hand... As for the cost I am afraid to add it all up! I lost track after around $700 in... and we have countless hours in the sails and flags... The rigging wasn't too bad, the spool was $5 from the local craft store... Thanks again everyone for the support! That would be a great honor, thank you!

Thanks! I will have to look if there is one near where I live...

Can I ask how you cut the plexiglass? I am wanting to do something similar to keep the dust off.

I didn't come up with that, I took inspiration from a fellow member here, Siercon and Coral. Found here. That was only possible with the great insight and inspiration of those on these forums! Thanks everyone for the comments and suggestions!

Edit: Here is the final design... Starting the actual build now, will had pics as the "develop"... Brickshelf Gallery ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hello, I stubbed across this site looking for inspiration on my own Lego Frigate. Ever since I got set 10210 last Jan. I wanted to build my own, more accurate frigate. I figured other out there must have done the same and after some googling, here I am. I have been ordering parts for the past month as I am finally getting time to under take this project. I just finished modify set 10213 (space shuttle) and before that I built a completely scratch built Atlantic 4-6-2 steam locomotive and tender. So I just wanted to say hi and to say I how great it is to have found this forum! :)

[MOC] USS Poseidon - Minifig Scale First Rate Ship of the Line
SuperSirLink replied to shiplover's topic in Pirate MOCs
Wow, very impressive! Would the bow spirit mast be that large in diameter? -
Another update... Cannons are in place, finished the bow and anchors, and most of the rigging... Still need to do the sails. Next update I have will hopefully be finished shots... Gun deck guns are held in with the 11L Lego string with studs on the ends, the main deck guns are tied in with custom rigging. All the knots are clove hitches and taunt lines, probably not exact for the use, but nice an clean... I think there might be too much clear in the water and needs more of the light blue... In taking the pics, I notices I goofed my anchors, so the first few shots are before the rework... Here the gun deck: Main deck guns:

another small update... Reworked the shrouds... I angled them back towards the stern as best as could be done (without doing alot of rework to the hull). I also made them more trapezoidal, though the pictures don't show that very well... I think it looks better than before. Got one more to finish, then to build the upper platforms and then add the upper shrouds...
-
I think I see my issue... the lower yards on both my foremast and mainmast shouldn't even be there... I was going to use the lego techniuqe for using it to hold the lower part of the sail. Looking at the reference ship, there should only be 3 yards on each mast (your reference matches that). Shifting them back and making them more trapezoidal maybe more of a challenge... I would have to start over, since the verticals would need to be different lengths... That is not completely out of the question though, as I am not 100% satisfied with these (would have like to get the ratlines tighter)... I used a 4 long tube at the top and a 6 long at the bottom... May need to spread it out to 8 long on the bottom... I also want to double up on the number of robot hands that mount them to the side of the hull... it is .8mm hemp cord, I got 200ft of it from Michael's for $5. It's pretty close to in size to the lego cord (with studs on the end) but feels less like nylon and more like a waxed cotton. Edit: Okay, did some rework of the masts...

Small update... Been working on the shrouds... Still alot more to go...
-
Well that's appropriate!
-
Excellent update! It is looking really good!
-
Wow, that is heartbraking to see! Not sure that would be compensation for me, but it is cool non the less.... What does the headline of that first article say?
-
Anyone know where to get string like Lego uses? Found some that might be close... 1mm thick Tex400 or waxed cotton cord... http://www.store.jewelsinfiber.com/nylonclc400.html http://www.firemountaingems.com/shopping.asp?SKW=KWCORDIMITATIONCOTTON http://www.suncountrygems.com/cord.html

I see what you mean... But yeah, I think once I go through the effort on the sails, they will look out of place...
-
They definitely looked better in LDD... I was trying to match the rigging of the unicorn which is why I was going all the way up. I was trying to do it with while staying all Lego, but the sails I have don't fit very well. So I think I am going to do custom sails, so I might do custom ratlines as well. Not sure I know what you mean by making them go outward. Here is what I am working toward: Unicorn Needless to say there is lots of work to do... I tried working that techniuqe in, but it is not easy to do if you want to make the deck removable... I think the next ship I want to try my hand at a brick built hull...

Another update... Still have more details to add, sails, rigging, cannons, and anchors to build...
