    MOD: Game-style Ekimu

MOD: Game-style Ekimu Those who have played BIONICLE: Mask of Creation will know that there has been an update to the game recently, which not only introduces Skull Warriors to the battlefield, but also Skull Slicer, Skull Scorpio, Skull Basher and Skull Grinder as four additional boss levels. Also, once you've fought and defeated all the bosses with their Toa of choice, you can also play as Ekimu, the Mask Maker! Now, those of you who are quite observant may have noticed something a bit off about Ekimu's in-game model. For those who haven't, take a look at his shoulders and arms. Ekimu has the same build as Narmoto, the Protector of Fire! The model uses 5M hinge bones and a 5M shell in trans light blue, which are versions of those parts which we do not have IRL. But, we can still build a close approximation - which I have done! What do you think of this version of Ekimu? Is he now more in line with the other figures of his size, or do you feel that he lacks a certain je ne sais quoi without a gearbox?

  4. One of Bionicle's biggest selling points over the years has been masks. From the collectible Kanohi of 2001 and beyond, to the Comic Con exclusives from this and last year, masks are one of the things that make Bionicle Bionicle. But some masks are more special than others - maybe for story reasons, for being part of a special set, or due to them being a limited release. This thread is your space for boasting about your hoard of precious, face-bound relics! Have at it! My list of special Kanohi/Masks is as follows, in order of release: 1x Golden Hau 1x Silver Hau 1x Infected Hau 1x Silver Miru 1x Trans-lime Miru 1x Copper Noble Huna 1x Krahkaan 1x Gold Avohkii 2x Glittery Avohkii 3x Silver Avohkii 1x Infected Hau Nuva 1x Orange Vahi 1x Keetorange Ignika Helmet 2x Golden Mask of Fire (One has been painted white for my self-MOC) 1x Golden Mask of Earth 1x Golden Mask of Stone 1x Golden Mask of Ice 1x Golden Mask of Jungle 2x Golden Mask of Water 1x Golden Skull Spider 1x Trans-Orange Mask of Fire 1x Blended Golden Mask of Earth 1x Blended Golden Mask of Stone 1x Blended Golden Mask of Jungle 2x Blended Golden Mask of Ice 1x Golden Protector Mask 1x Golden Mask of Creation 2x Trans-lime Skull Scorpio/Skull Basher mask (Currently waiting on the second one to be sent my way from the states - paid £29.48 for it incl. postage)

    [MOC] Toa Cetro and Dendro

TOA CETRO AND DENDRO A 2016-esque revamp of my 2015 MOC, Cetro. While Cetro does have an animal companion in the form of Dendro, the two don't "unite" like this year's Toa do with the elemental creatures. Cetro uses my TW2 gearbox design. Cetro - Front Cetro - Back Cetro - Torso build Cetro - Lower arm build Cetro - Lower leg build Dendro - Front 3/4 Dendro - Back 3/4 Dendro - Underside

    The Custom Gearbox Thread

Ah, the humble gear mechanism. From as early as 1999, a gearbox has been something which has defined a Lego action figure, and arguably made it whole. Although they had an extensive hiatus, gearboxes have returned to constraction in a big way. Many MOCists are taking inspiration from the reboot of Bionicle, and are mechanising their custom creations. Some, however, aren't just using the gearboxes the Danish gods provided them with. Custom gearboxes have hit the scene, allowing for more unique functionality and animation. Ingenious methods of motion are being integrated into models which would otherwise stand static. This thread is for you to share your own custom gearboxes, or work together with other users to develop new ideas. I'll start off by sharing a few of my designs. LW2 - Designed for stability on larger figures. LW1 (not its official name) is a gearbox coined by ToaLeewan, and is the core design the LW2 adapts upon. I have used this on several models, the first being G2 Umbra. SL1 - Designed to mimic the functionality of the Slizers. Rather superfluous, but still a fun experiment. K1 - Designed for back and forth shoulder motion, which realigns via an elastic band. I've only used this on Kaikohuru. MG1 - For use on smaller figures that use the 'XT4' frame.

    MOC: Gadu, Toa of Stone

Builder's note The idea behind Gadu here was to use more classic-styled G1 elements then I'd usually be comfortable doing, while still maintaining a cohesive design language throughout - not the repeating details throughout the classic pieces I chose, such as corrugated tubing, oblong notches and round shapes. I also wanted to dabble with moving away from the usual structure for the TW2 gearbox, ending up with a twisting abdominal region rather than a twisting waist.

    [MOC]The Exterminator

It would be about three/four times more expensive It's more complicated and ergo would be frustrating for some kids to build, especially considering constraction's young target audience Due its complexity it'd likely be too delicate for a constraction set What Onepu said Constraction sets are likely never going to be on-par with MOCs like this.
  12. I use BlueRender 0003 (later versions add a horrible grain effect to metallic pieces, so I've foregone them) and I am getting pretty sick and tired of how awfully it handles translucent colours. It makes them dark and fairly indiscernible. This internet consipirator-esque infographic shows what I mean. What can I alter in the scene file to rectify this?

SHOGUN TAHU An anime-inspired re-imagining of prolific Toa, Tahu. Front Back Skeleton - Front Skeleton - Back Shogun Tahu utilises the LW2 gearbox.
  14. Some fantastic recolours in these. Shame they still rely on that godawful prefab torso frame though, a locked gearbox build would've looked a lot better on these guys, and would've been significantly more interesting to build.

    Future Constraction Lines

I don't know if this has been brought up yet (or what you guys make of 4chan rumours), but... ...an anon posted this the weekend before last. Take it with a huge grain of salt. Larger image if needed

    No Bionicle in 2017 confirmed

Nada. They mostly just talked about how the design process worked.

    No Bionicle in 2017 confirmed

Constraction still is an offshoot of Technic though
  18. While Hero Factory was short lived and didn't always have the most... infallible design standards, there were quite a few sets that stood out in the roster as being exceptionally appealing. Sets like Witch Doctor and Evo XL receive universal praise, but there are other sets which still look the business. So, to you, which set/s is/are underrated, and deserve/s more love?

    Bionicle 2016 Sets Discussion

Ikir was my last G2 purchase too. He's currently poised on a stand atop my wardrobe, as if he's swooping down towards my JtO Makuta cross the room. He's a fantastic figure.

    Makuta, Emperor of Elements

Good grief that's cool. The lower legs are a bit janky, but everything else is wonderful. I love the functionality of the lower arms, and the elemental pieces surrounding the masks.
