My 4 year old is one of them. She doesn't care about the Disney princesses. But the can stand in the aisles for tens of minutes trying to decide which animal to take home with her!

Who else here is into all sorts of themes?
Sarah replied to Blondie-Wan's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Friends Elves Eventually I'll get a train set Some City (Shuttle sets) Most of the Seasonals Really various misc sets I like. Recently I've been heavily into Elves and have ever set in that series except the castle. -
I don't think its a cop out. I grew up in the late 70s/early 80s. My sets were Homemaker, Space, and Fire. I lusted after the Yellow Castle, but my parents never bought it for me. (And probably could not afford it, looking back.) My space men were equally women and men. I didn't need any special head or hair or anything. It was all under the helmet. I don't know what they were "supposed" to be. I saw very few advertisements. Just the box and put the pieces together and played my stories (With my sister when I could rope her in) Only the space sets got taken apart and put together in different ways. The fire house pretty much got used as a fire house -- though the lady drove the trucks just like the people with fire hats. The kitchen and bathroom were used to do house stuff. And all the minifigs got names, birthdays, likes and dislikes (written down on little pieces of paper). Some were girls, some were boys. And they became toddlers in our Barbie play and children in our dollhouse play.... we always ended up with way more kids than grownups. An orphanage or something. FYI AS for the minidoll vs minifig argument... I guess it isn't a big deal for me because I've already gone through 1 change in figures. My very first Lego set was Farm -- with the heads with arms and you built them up with 2x2 blocks (mostly -- also trapezoids, I think -- or blocks that made trapezoids for skirts and plates sometimes). Then the Homemaker series had hte adults being build up figures and children being minifigs. Then you saw more and more minifigs and the built up figures just sorta disappeared. So I don't think Lego HAS to be minifig. But they do get a lot of sales from the minifigs -- so many they now sell them BY THEMSELVES! No set attached. I like the minidolls and the minifigs. My son (8-ish) prefers Mixels (which have eyes, etc. But no minifigs) and a very few licensed characters he recognizes -- but which one he prefers changes a lot. My daughter (age 4) likes to take minifigures apart and put them back together in different ways. But is probably more creative with Legos than any of us, within her skill level. She uses plates for hats on the minifigs, sometimes. And other times puts a flower up there. Her favorite "Figure" is a horse. She makes "cars" for her horse and "Airplanes" and even boats. (And houses... if you ignore the fact that it doesn't have a real wall going all the way around) All centered around one specific horse. She loves the bright colors of more girl focused sets and ignores the minidolls, for now. We will see what happens as time goes on. But yeah, I am not buying a $100 set for her. Her biggest purchase so far was the $40 (I think?) Lego Junior Castle set. She got halfway through the instructions of putting it together and wanted to play instead of build. Which of course is fine. But the pieces shortly thereafter got scattered and combined with other sets. It would be too frustrating for her to put together y the instructions now. So it will likely never be "Finished"

I'd agree with Mixels. They mix and match beautifully. My son does more free building with his mixels than anything else. So we mostly keep them separate from the rest. (they'd be hard to find in the larger mix!)

Oh the tram was QUITE necessary in this set. NOT having the Public Transport Station, I am tempted by City Square partly because of that neat looking vehicle!

WATCH out US Folk. The Lego site is saying the Holiday Train is being added to the cart, but it is NOT being added I called Lego Shop and they confirmed It is not being added

I wouldn't say girls don't like building toys -- more. They don't like building for the sake of building. Being able to build your own backdrop for the stories you want to play? And modify it to be EXACTLY what you want? That's FUN.

Agreed. I've got a 8 year old son and 4 year old daughter. And between my husband and myself, I'm the bigger Lego fan. DH played with Lego as a kid and moved on. I still have much of my childhood Lego and have gone through two phases of "LOVING" Lego again as an adult. My son loves Star Wars, Ninjago, Mixels, Minecraft. Probably Mixels the most. My daughter loves Juniors (She chose the Castle as her last set). Friends and Elves (The sets and the animals, not so much the figures -- she likes taking the minifigs apart and putting them back together in different combinations. In fact, we've got a box of minifigs that she plays with all by themselves, to do this). She makes "houses" with bricks, to play with a few minifigs in. And vehicles (generally some sort of plane/boat thing) to carry her favorite horse "minifig" around. She also loves the animals of all shapes and sizes. She is just as likely to use a plate as a hat for a figure as using it as a plate. Both kids are getting Airjitzus for Christmas after we saw them at the Lego store and my daughter just fell in LOVE with the spinning part of them (And I was convinced she was able to do it HERSELF)

I want that train. So I guess I'm waiting until the middle of the month to order Lego. My daughter will just have to wait for her minifig fix.

My daughter's favorite movie/DVDs are all the How to Train a dragon stuff! She's been loving the Elves sets I have but I may just have to give her her own sets if one of these is a dragon that can be ridden!

This mother of a 7 year old son and a 3 year old daughter is VERY thankful for this piece. She can actually play with cars made with this piece. My son really struggled with the fine motor control needed on Legos and could have used Juniors a few years ago. But now that we have Legos out and about, neither child wants to play with the Duplos so DD has a few Juniors sets so DS can build her things she can play with herself. (And she can put a few pieces together herself. I particularly liked the pink plate used as a hat idea)

Would you be open to changes in the minifig to make it more poseable?
Sarah replied to BrickG's topic in General LEGO Discussion
The first minifigs I had were both children in Homemaker families -- The Kitchen and bathroom sets. Lego 269, kitchen: http://brickset.com/sets/269-1/Kitchen Lego 261, Bathroom: http://brickset.com/sets/261-1/Bathroom -
Me. If my kid or one of his friends asks for it as a Birthday Gift. Or Christmas. Aunts and Uncles and other people who love their nieces and nephews

I'm sorry. This is driving me nuts. what does GBC stand for? I know it is something like the Perpetual Motion Machines people make out of Lego. (Like the Lego Chain Reactions books I've got on my wish list) But I can't seem to resolve the letters... --

My son (age 8 in August) and his friends are still huge fans of Angry Birds. Transformers gets lots of time. They also tend to love Lego. I suspect I will be seeing these new sets showing up at birthday parties in a year or so. He also likes Plants vs Zombies

Neat. They might be in our book fair next fall. I saw this last one had a BUNCH of Lego books, including Lego Mixels and Lego Friends

A friend posted it on Facebook as "This project just needs 10K votes to be made" and I was trying to educate as to what Lego Ideas was.

Ah. That explains the clothes. I couldn't get the clothes to "fit" but couldn't find another character closer. Ember is Leetah's daughter so that explains (I was introduced to Elfquest by friends who were WAY into it -- she event named her character in our joint writing world "Tember" after Ember. Since I was her twin, this influenced my own character "Tembaly")
-
I'm pretty sure she's from Elfquest (its the first thing I thought of when I heard Lego was coming out with Elves. Those graphic novels I read so many years ago) -- Maybe Ember?

Female characters you want to see in the next LEGO Movie!
Sarah replied to Transparency for Effect's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Or her mom. I'm the bigger fan between my husband and myself. (he had a few Legos as a kid. I have kept all my Legos as a kid, and as a young adult. and spend my spending money on them now..) -
New 2015 LEGO Town-esque house set found at the LEGO Store
Sarah replied to just2good's topic in LEGO Town
Me too. I plan to get it at Double VIP points -
Call before you go. I got mine last Friday when they got a new shipment. After getting it home kind of wish I'd gotten two because of that adorable kid torso! I also love the vignette look of looking inside the kitchen window And the unexpected cookies in the oven And the "Egg" boiling in the pot! I didn't expect that. The "Curtains" from pictures online I had thought were color spigots. It took turning the build around to realize they were curtains.

We haven't used it for any projects big enough to worry about parts going over the edge yet. But we've had good experience using a catering "Dipping tray" for containing parts. 4 side containers and the inner cup.
