  1. I don't think we need to worry too much about merchandise for the show replacing that if the movies for sometime yet.

Compare the upcoming show with Game of Thrones for example - both big book series with plenty of cgi and large casts. Not a perfect comparison but not a bad one!

On GOT, the show runners and author were ready to work together in 2006, development started 2007, the pilot shot in 2009, the series finished shooting in 2010 and was released in 2011.

HPTV may already be doing some pre-production work, but the showrunner will not be in place for about three months. The idea the show will be ready for release in two years then looks dubious.

  2. Interesting we only get one of the Trio in the advent calender, not a bad thing tbh.

We can tick the troll off the list then! I hope by Sinistra they mean Vector in the Great Hall - both non speaking roles after all.

Two ghosts and three students could be interesting - we could get the Fat Friar (there is a Hufflepuff Common Room...) and the Bloody Baron, but they could easily be repeated characters.

The three students - I hope for Alicia Spinnet, Millicent Bulstrode and Ernie MacMillan as it is based on the early films, but I could very easily be disappointed 😁

I’m wary about the whole new adaption thing, but I really want to finally see the house elf/SPEW plot finally adapted from the books).

The films cut some good things from the book series which may have been necessary but disappointing, but cutting most of the story of the house elves was very a good call.

It's never a good idea to have your hero be a slave owner. The house elves role in the books also shows a massive problem with the story - the wizarding world is heavily biased against house elves, goblins and centaurs. You would expect the book series to address and heal this divide in society, but no systemic change really occurs by the end of DH.

Problems of the book series aside, the release date is likely to be pushed back a year or two as these things often are. I also think the chance of any lego sets from the reboot this decade are low.

  4. The amount of GoF figures this year makes me think Yule Ball is fairly likely for the advent calender so some could be repeated. The Harry and Ron variants I mentioned before could be joined by Hermione in her dress using one of the newer plastic pieces and medium legs. Side builds could also include plenty of Durmstrang and Beauxbatons stuff.

That would be my favourite version of Fred and George to get. Closest thing to how they appeared in the old pc games.

    Very much so!

If they did redo the Yule Ball, there are still several characters we could get in their formal outfits. Like Ginny, Draco, Neville, Karkaroff. Not to mention Fleur's date, Roger Davies. Also a new Cho with a more accurate skin tone.

To keep them interesting, Harry and Ron take their jackets off later in the ball for a new variant for 2/3 of the trio. We got the jacketless Harry back in the old 2010 line.

    McGonagall and Moody too!

The thing is, based on the last two advent calendars and what sets are currently on shelves I don’t think lego can go with anything from the first three movies in the near future.

I was thinking of Fred and George's Weasley jumpers (Percy wears one too but it's barely seen) and Hagrid's fluffy coat from PS would make good new figures.

  7. I would love Grimmauld Place or Christmas at the Burrow - neither are particularly fun but would have good figures. Fully expect Lego to go for a Christmas in films 1-4 and tbh as long as the calender is good I don't think it matters now if there are no new characters, as long as the builds are good and their are variants of exists minifigs.

Didn't she already come in this outfit in the previous Beauxbatons set?

    Yes

    Uh, no, she did not.

She was in this outfit in the last set.

Fleur also wears the Beauxbatons jacket, as Gabrielle was wearing in the original post at times.

Gabrielle should be a new variant then if she's in the set. Both the arrival and the black lake variants are different from the one we already got.

^^ this is what she wears in the black lake.

^^ this is what she wears when they arrived.

I agree it should be one of those, I wouldn't be opposed to this variant though if it came down to it.

All six ghosts L-R Moaning Myrtle, Nearly Headless Nick, Bloody Baron, Fat Friar, Professor Binns, Grey Lady.

Myrtle hasn't changed, Nick has the old Harry hair in lbg and a white ruff. The Baron has the Unkar henchman torso and legs, with the face of the 1920s CMS detective and CMS Judge wig. The Fat Friar has the old Gandalf torso, with the cheerful CMS mime face and Ron's old hairpiece in black - I'd much prefer this in lbg. Prof Binns used the very old Peeves torso which doesn't quite work in the old grey colour, a face from the BAM tower and a white turban, again I would prefer this in grey. Lastly, Helena Ravenclaw is the same that came in the set.

Do you think that the boathouse will connect to hogwarts castle with those pieces?

    image.png.2bac87c214462b657ebc128a7411a87c.png

I would rather expect connections with pins, like in the sets from 2018.

Yes, they look like they will be connecting with clips. I personally prefer clips but they would be very easy to swap for pins if that's your preference as its just swapping out the 1x2 with clip for a 1x2 with Technic hole and if you have any of the older sets you should have enough spares of the Technic pins to be okay.

Little disappointed the Great Hall is from Book 1.

They have to include new stuff, and new stuff only. Really don’t want to be seeing figure repeats at such a high price point.

    Give me the troll, too!

Can someone give me an idea of a Great Hall set where it’s all new? Like ghosts etc.

Great Hall is set up for Halloween Feast, with floating pumpkins above four tables. The Bloody Baron and Fat Friar are swooping between the pumpkins, while Dumbledore with new hat mold talks to Madam Hooch with new hat mold and Vector .

Quirrell, with new torso print variant, bursts in to announce there is a troll in the dungeon!

Below the great hall the Trio with nee dusty robe prints battle a new molded troll.

Are they really „needed“ tho? If we go for absolute completion, then yes, but otherwise, I doubt Fleur‘s dance partner, akne girl, Cedric’s dad, and random muggle who gets avadakedavrad are high on anyone‘s wishlist

Well, yes, they're needed in the sense that without them we would not have a complete minifig line up as the list shows, but no, they won't be top of many people's 'most wanted' lists if Narcissa, Bill Weasley, and characters like them are still missing. It's not a wishlist!

We are at the stage where we are below 50 characters remaining until they have all been ticked off the list now. A good thing is we are getting named extras like the Flower Witch, Malkin, etc to expand the selection of figures beyond the credited roles in the films, while slowly but surely filling in the blanks both of new characters and new variants.

I'm looking forward to the complete line ups and I'm really hoping as the GH is PS based we complete the ghosts line up as the Bloody Baron and Fat Friar both make their appearances here.

  14. So far the new information tells us we're getting five brand new characters next:

    Malkin

    Flower witch

    Wheelchair Student

    Crouch Sr

    Karkaroff

With the Aragog set almost certainly not having new characters and the Potions Class most likely based on the early films, but possibly anything up to HBP, here are what I think are the possible new characters based on the needed minifigure lists:

Great Hall - Prof Vector, Bloody Baron, Fat Friar, Alicia Spinnet, Troll in the Dungeon. Millicent Bulstrode, Ernie MacMillain and Penelope Clearwater appear in CoS so are unlikely but possible I think.

Potions Class (if from HBP) - Katie Bell, Leanne

That also reduces the needed GoF characters to just Roger Davis, Eloise Midgen, Amos Diggory and Frank Bryce!

    (not including Nigel

  15. 76435 Hogwarts Great Hall

This looks good. I wonder if the set will contain the Great Hall and the rocks beneath, or the Great Hall and Grand Staircase Tower. Either way, this looks a great reboot for the castle.

I'd echo calls for Fat Friar and Bloody Baron (both of which belong to underground common rooms...) as well as the missing teachers Vector and Grubbly-Plank, and new outfits for other teachers. Keep it based on any films pre-BoH I think.

76440 Durmstrang Ship & Beauxbatons Carriage - I'm guessing the ship will be the dominant part of this set. For Beauxbatons I'd like to see Fleur and Gabrielle in their Lake Task outfits, failing that their other Beauxbatons uniforms not present in the last carriage set. For Mme Delacour, any of her outfits bar the two we already have.

For the ship I think we need Krum, Karkaroff, Karkaroff's assistant and maybe a random student. Crouch would be okay here too.

    76439 Ollivanders & Madam Malkins, 744 pieces, $99.99

This sounds great. I want to expand the contents of my Diagon Alley shops and the WWW set last year was good for this. Glad to see a Padma without bindi to go with Parvati from the Divination set.

    76427 Buckbeak, 723 pieces, $59.99

I reckon a waistcoat Hagrid and maybe a scruffy/torn clothes Malfoy here.

    76433 Buildable Mandrake, 579 pieces, $59.99

If there is a figure I'd expect Neville, but would love a Sprout in new outfit or another figure with earmuffs molded on.

    76431 Hogwarts Potions Class, 397 pieces, $37.99

Heart says Slughorn era, head says Snape's.

    76434 Aragog Forbidden Forest, 195 pieces, $14.99

I'll skip this unless Harry and Ron have torn/dirty clothes.

Not that many left! I guess Prof Vector, Prof Grubbly-Plank, the Bloody Baron, the Fat Friar, and maybe some students. Who else is there?

Karkaroff, Dawlish and Crouch all appear in Hogwarts - as well as various Order and Death Eaters in addition to who you mentioned.

No wonder they start struggling to include new characters in the sets and have to resort to variants and animals to keep things interesting :laugh_hard:

Hey, some of us like the variants 😁

But you're right, not many left.

    Found it:

It's a bit hard to hear, because of the loud music, but can not find this part without the music. The setdresser (Stephenie McMillan) literally says: 'Each shop had an shopkeeper'.

    Thanks that's interesting!!

I've read somewhere (I do not know where, sorry) that all shops in the movies had an owner cast for it. Thus we saw Florean Fortescue  in the 2020 DA. That should mean that there was someone cast as Madam Malkin and that LEGO could have that info somewhere.

I've not heard of this, it would be good to find a source for this :classic: I have collected all I can about the various extras and crew members who doubled as shopkeepers (like Fortesque):

    QQS(man on the right):

Flourish and Blotts (two for this shop):

Wiseacres (Bald man in a robe can be seen in the doorway):

There may well be others I've not come across yet, like Malkin.

That's a great idea!I hope they do that.

I tend to think of it more in terms of the sign up (or FB). Maybe they could split the scene between OotP and DH (like they did with the 2018 Great Hall PS and CoS) to give them a broader character selection.

@Seaber, you rule. Great eye, even better memory (or link collection). Wow. 😮

Haha no problem, I have most of the adults costumes sorted, but I still need to check all the students which will be a massive job 😁

Iirc, Narcissa was onscreen in the neighbourhood of 8 minutes. Anyone know how many outfits she had?

    Five, I think:

She wears a long coat in Spinner's End when Snape makes the Unbreakable Vow.

A shorter coat and skirt when she visits Borgin and Burke's with Draco.

A black dress at the Malfoy Manor meeting.

A velvet(?) black dress in the Malfoy Manor battle.

Death Eater-like robes at the Battle of Hogwarts.

As for design tastes if the blocky exteriors with endless accent colors and window designs are your thing then more power to you.

The blocky corridors worked well for the connecting various towers together, but with the inconsistent window design and use of sand green looked out of place.

I personally liked the sets, but 2018-20 did look better. The Boathouse and Owlery look more similar to that style, luckily.

As long as they have different themes, it won´t. They even made one for Thor although we already got a viking ship already. Then we have ships in city, the pirate ship - and actually next year there will be more ships added too. Anyways, if they would care for the number of ships in total we already would have to many now.

The ships in the City theme are very different to the list of 'similar' ships I explicitly mentioned. And yes, there are too many boats right now, but as at least one is EOL.
