LEGO Ninjago 2017 Discussion
badbob001 replied to Peppermint_M's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
As seen in earlier screenshots, the technic holes are in the proper depth and height to attach to other modulars. LEGO may never suggest this as a feature, but may explain them as sewer holes with a wink. I don't really see multiple ninjago cities being connected together without heavy modding to remove the redundant look, but maybe this is the first set in a series of licensed-themed modular buildings. Sure, the set may not include the 'pins', but other modular buildings would have them already. So the only 'creativity' involved is deciding which buildings to attach. And if your city layout is more than one building deep, you probably don't even use pins to make it easier to swap buildings out. -

Yes, I meant Nya. My kids are more involved with the sets and show than I am. Normally Ninjago sets are not so well made and favor toward action elements, but it seems like any set associated with a movie seem to get extra special attention and budget for the design. I wasn't going to pick up the Temple of Airjitzu, but I have now since I can see how the water elements of that set can complement Ninjago City. I can probably add to this scene the Old Fishing Store and the Fun at the Beach sets. -

What I love about Ninjago and other lego-source-IPs like the Lego Movie: more varieties of yellow-skin lego citizens. It was due to the LEGO movie that we have city dwellers sporting fabuland and blacktron t-shirts. Ninjago City has so many cute city characters, but I may also pick up the City Chase set. Look how cute Mia's clothes are: -
I have all of the sets, including the ps4 dock w/ supergirl, but no console to play it on since I primarily game on PC. I guess a PC version is out of the question now so I probably should get a console before they shutdown all dimensions downloads/updates. Any particular console is suggested? I stated that I already have the ps4 dock, which should also be compatible with ps3/wiiU, but I'm sure once the line is not renewed, docks will go for dollars anyway. Is there a particular platform version of the game that is the least problematic?

Cost not only depends on the quantity of pieces, but also the diversity of the pieces based on type, color, printing, etc. I think this is because there is an extra cost to dedicate molding machines for each brick type. So a set with 1000 pieces of the same piece will be cheaper than a set with 500 pieces of one type and another 500 pieces of another type. I think LEGO gives each designer a type of production budget to fall under. A smart designer can squeeze in more piece types into their design if they use brick types that are being produced for other sets. I think there was a good discussion of this on reddit for the Lego ideas/cuusoo exo-suit.

I hope that window covered with newspapers(?) is printed.

This will go well with my modular buildings, as did the Haunted House. I can also put connect to it 'Fun at the Beach' and have an old man to tell the kids to get off his, uh, beach. I think I spot a ladder for going up the lighthouse, which is much better than magical teleportation via the hand of god.

How long does a bricklink order usually take?
badbob001 replied to Brikkyy13's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I just ordered something from Austria to USA and I think I will get it tomorrow, which makes it 7 days since shipping. But most interesting is the tracking data. It only takes 2 days for it to arrive to the US, but it takes more time to go through an International Shipping Center and then a couple of hops before it gets to my local postal branch. I always thought the long delay was due to the package being in foreign parts but it's actually within the country already. -
I got the solution: Download wanted list. Upload wanted list into a new list (or into original list if you don't need to keep the original). Repeat upload to add quantities of each part to the list.

How do you display your modular building collection?
badbob001 replied to yanathin's topic in LEGO Town
I've been planning to get several Ikea Billy bookcases with class doors, but I've been putting it off since there is some work involved to adjust them to fit three modules per shelf. Then I noticed that Ikea now has this: HINDÖ Greenhouse cabinet, indoor/outdoor, gray Width: 24 3/4 " Depth: 12 1/4 " Height: 56 3/4 " Max load/shelf: 51 lb Width: 63 cm Depth: 31 cm Height: 144 cm Max load/shelf: 23 kg It's smaller than the billy, doesn't look as nice, but OMG why can't the billy have frameless glass doors like that! The per unit cost is less than billy ($99 vs $180 for billy with glass modliden doors). But the Hindo can only hold 8 modulars at most while each billy can do 12 (18 with width hack). -

I agree about Canada and I'm from the US! It's weird. I guess they can't just kick the packages over the border. But then then you're saying it takes 1-2 weeks from within Australia. Is this just shipping time? Within the US, I expect the shipping to be 1-5 days (usually 3). -
Say I parts out something into a wanted list. But I want to buy multiples of the entire list (eg: 2x, 3x, etc each part). Is there an easy way to multiply the parts count of a wanted list and store that into a new wanted list? I wish there is a multiply option when adding a wanted list into the store auto-finder.

For those in the USA, do you have any preferred countries to order from? I've had good results with Germany, with orders arriving in about 7-10 days and the shipping cost is reasonable. I just tried Austria, which is next to Germany, so hopefully the results are similar. Or are there countries you would definitely avoid due to how long it takes? I've seen good parts selection from countries like Hong Kong, but I suspect it may take a month for those orders. -

When I order from a store for the first time, I would check their recent user comments to see if there has been any recent activity and see if there are any common issues. Some may ship on the same day but some may take a week to take any action, but I try to understand that this is usually their hobby and they may be busy or on vacation. And even after they ship, the shipping time will vary with each country and eventually you may favor certain countries over others due to shipping speed. I'm in the US and I try to order from US store, but my main fallback is Germany. -
REVIEW: 71018 LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 17
badbob001 replied to WhiteFang's topic in Special LEGO Themes
I think a lot of people hate the idea of rare figures, such as Mr. Gold or rare figures from conventions. Being blind-bag is enough stress for a kids product, but let's not encourage adults from buying up all the inventory. The extra pieces idea will encourage people to collect all the figures rather than chasing after one rare figure. And even when you don't get them all or have extras of the extra pieces, you can always use them to build custom figures. With non-LEGO products, those extra pieces are basically garbage. And the extra pieces don't even need to be for an extra figure. It could be accessory pieces that are used with the figure it comes with but can be combined to form something else. -
REVIEW: 71018 LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 17
badbob001 replied to WhiteFang's topic in Special LEGO Themes
I wondered how LEGO was expecting this to remain a mystery. But I suppose as long as the figure is not printed in the sheet, bag, or box, then anyone that comes into their stores can potentially be intrigued by the 'mystery'. Of course, that person also needs to have no interest in LEGO other than buying it as gifts... and won't lookup LEGO information on the Internet. Now for the next series, how would we feel if they include extra parts of a figure within each bag and you have to basically collect them all to build these extra figures? I've seen this done with Marvel figures (non-LEGO). -
Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
badbob001 replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
Perhaps the CMF parts are sourced from many more countries than the modular buildings, which can lead to more opportunities for leaks. I think many toy leaks are from factory workers. LEGO now has factories in China and CMF parts can be sourced from there, but I don't think all/most sets are using those factories yet. -
I don't think the the Mini Volkswagen would be considered directly part of the normal seasonal series, but a car-related seasonal series may be a good idea: Valentine's day: Couple in red convertible with picnic stuff in the back seat. Or Couple on a horse-drawn ride? Easter: Person with easter bunny costume driving a white car? Summer: Car with beach stuff. Much like the Volkswagen set. Halloween: Hayride truck with kids in costumes and lots of pumpkins. Thanksgiving: Car with the whole family, perhaps going to visit relatives? Christmas: Car with Christmas tree on top and presents in trunk. Would it be too frightening to have a car full of Santas, carpooling to malls? That or Santa on sleigh with a beefy reindeer on roller skates. For these to be minifigure-scale and be decent, they probably need to have more pieces (and priced accordingly) compared to current seasonal sets.

How do you display your modular building collection?
badbob001 replied to yanathin's topic in LEGO Town
This looks so great and roomy. It's really hard to find dust-proof storage/display that is horizontal. Did you buy or build this cabinet? Is it three stacked on top of each other? How do you open it? Seems like the front doors would hinge up or down, but not sure how all that weight would be suspended or supported. IKEA has bookcases with glass doors but I don't think the doors will work well with the whole thing turned sideways. -
I'm building a second copy Santa's Workshop and am building it flipped/mirrored so I can more easily connect it to a normal build of it. For those of you that do such a thing, how do you do it? Do you use the normal instructions and mentally flip the build? Do you reflect the instructions off a mirror? Do you download the pdf instructions, batch convert each page to an image, and batch flip each image? I ended up using the last option but it was a bit frustrating because the pdf instructions from LEGO are low resolution and often too dark to make out colors and details.

Lego BrickHeadz 2018 - Rumors & Discussion
badbob001 replied to Captain Nemo's topic in LEGO Licensed
But it's not really rotated. Her plate is the same width as the others. But the depth is doubled. So if you have them on display and have them all flush from the front, then they will look the same. -
This may go well with another tan baseplate and the Fun at the Beach set.

I hope the set keeps the option for a closed-back not always opened like a dollhouse.

I understand the pink is for the brain, but what does the red represent? Underwear?
