[MOC] DBG Gunship - Binocular madness

Fantastic! It looks awesome! Is it System scale?

Is Millenium Falcon 7965 still the one to get?

The new one will probably be better. However, will it be a lot better? We'll have to wait and see, but I'm thinking it would basically be better as the new Gunship is better then the old one. If you're not a huge fan of the ship, then get the cheapest, but if like me it's one of your three favorite ships of the whole OT, get both.

With all the recent Gunship talk, I realized I didn't have shots of mine.

    Prequel Trilogy UCS Sets

Very likely. And I bet that, as PT audiences/fans "mature", there will be more chances of UCS vehicles in the future.

    [MOC] Improved Shadow Troopers speeder

Pretty cool! You sure about the name? What about "Shadow X-Wing Transport"?
  6. After I posted my Slave vs Slave thread, I started thinking. I own the 7676 Gunship of 2008 and the 8129 AT-AT of 2010. _________________ Are the new versions released in 2013 (Gunship 75021) and 2014 (AT-AT 75054) significantly better? _________________ I mean are they different enough in terms of building technique or features or fidelity to the "real" ships that it would be worth spending the extra money on two models that I already own? Using the Slave I as an example, I had the 8097 "toy" version and this year I got the badass 75060. The UCS is in a different league in terms of details and fidelity, but I think the 8095 is still quite nice to have because it's (roughly) up to scale to other regular SW ships like the X-Wing or Falcon and it is swooshable. With that, in my mind I have two versions of the same ship but they are kind of complementary in my collection. Another example: I have (had) Luke's Landspeeder (8092) of 2010 and was very happy with it. But then I got the Mos Eilsey Cantina set (75052) from last year and the landspeeder that came with that set was quite better then the older one, to the point that now the 8092 set has become spare parts. So what about the Gunship and AT-AT? Are they a lot better then the older versions or just slightly better? If I get the new models will I be tempted to transform the older ones into spare parts because they've become totally outclassed? Or are they different enough to the point that it would be cool to have both in the collection? I'm a die-hard SW fan, and I do like both vehicles a LOT, but there are many other SW sets that I don't have any versions of that could be money better spent, since after all I do have (good) versions of these two. What do you think? I would be specially interested to hear the opinion of those who have both versions of these sets.

Current Gunship and AT-AT: are they worth it?

Well, with all your input, I bumped the new Gunship into the "Buy ASAP" list (that's only one down from the "Must Buy"), while the 75054 AT was promoted from the "Not Necessary" list to the "Buy If Possible" list . Darn, and that's with a new Falcon coming out...

Current Gunship and AT-AT: are they worth it?

Hmm... So the first one to get would be the Gunship? The troop doors on my AT-AT would the only issue I have with it. I think they're poorly implemented and are a pain to use. From reviews that I saw of the new model, they now work on pistons, so that's a huge improvement. And about the Gunship, you list features that I really like. Well, with the exception of loosing the nose art. What are "mobie faces"? Your first sentence is what so far has stopped me from getting these newer models. I really like both the AT and the Gunship, but it's hard to rationalize having a second version of both while I don't have some other sets . And your last argument on the Gunship has convinced me on getting the new one. It definitively looks like as being more oriented to be a ground-attack or troop support craft, while the older one would be just a plain troop carrier. In my mind that would make it "different enough" to become a justifiable purchase.

Veynom, got any pics? The absent nose art is an issue for me with the new gunship.

    Slave vs Slave

Yup, that sounds reasonable. In terms of details they're apple and oranges, but even though it's the inferior model, I still love the 8097 - that's probably the 11-year old in me :). Besides, we did get Bosk with it, and just a stormtrooper with the mighty 75060.

That came out VERY nice! I have the earlier version of the AT-AT, and i would also benefit from a tile treatment like that.

    Legoville

I finally have my Lego city! Last year we started building a new and bigger house, and after the second pavement and the roof went up, I went up there and saw that the roof would be about 2 m high from the floor (the ceiling of the second pavement). And that started me thinking . I asked the engineer if I could make use of the space and he said "Sure, no problem". Then I went to the biggest obstacle to overcome: the wife . But after some sweet talking and a full week of the most excellent behavior on my part, she oked the attic idea . I was going to have a Lego room in my new house ! This is how it all started: I had the roof thermally insulated, so that I wouldn't roast up there in the hot summer. The house didn't have an attic in the initial plans, so I had to have a window opened for light and air circulation. I wouldn't be able to use the whole roof, so a drywall was used on the sides to close out the really "shallow" parts. The initial "access hatch" to the roof was just that, so I had installed one of those folding attic stairs on the ceiling of the second pavement. We moved in the new house in the beginning of October, but I still had to have the tables and doors/closets made. By late November everything was done and I was ready to start building .

    Legoville

Update: Legoville now offers French cuisine! Since I have the sidewalk of the road plate, I advanced the front of the building two studs over the set's original baseplate, and with this I could have a larger back yard, that I moded to accommodate a garden of sorts on the back. As you can see, I'm missing a lot of bley 1x2 tiles for the sidewalk (en route), but I guess this section of the city is pretty much done. I think that the next buildings I'll put on the other side of the train track, and start developing that side of town.

    Legoville

Darn, just realized it has been more them a year since I last updated this ! My Legoville is still striving, but in 2014 I did venture in other directions so urban improvements have been a little slow. Still, there are a few new features: However, the biggest news is that last month I expanded my construction space: This is what I intended to do when I got the tables made, and finally last month I got the project done. Below the tables I had made to size small "drawer-tables" on wheels, that I can pull out to build on. One of them definitively will be a Castle & Knights themed area, where I already got my castle and a few sets built (it's been a favorite of my kids lately, so there's no way i can keep it tidy right now). I have a LOT of parts to buy, from baseplates to bricks, and I think I'm getting a second castle to make a bigger one. I don't have anything defined for the other drawers yet, so now I'm just using one as a hangar for my choppers. This afternoon I was doing some maintenance work on the city, and I was thinking of maybe using one drawer as an additional block, though not physically connected to the rest of the city. Except for the Castle & Knights area I don't have anything decided yet, so lets see what I'll do with these new areas.

LEGO Star Wars UCS 75060 Slave I

    X-34 × X-34

Being a huge fan of the X-34, set 8092 ("Luke's Landspeeder") was a must buy for me, but I only got it in the beginning of 2013. It was a very nice set to build, and I was pretty happy with the X-34. But this year the Mos Eisley Cantina (75052) came out, and though I already had the X-34, the cantina (and minifigs) would be a great set to have, and I got it for Christmas from my dear wife. I wasn't very sure about the color scheme of the new X-34, since I had the impression that the old one had nailed it. But after building the set, I could see i was wrong: It has been a while since I last saw Ep IV, and to my surprise Luke's X-34 is more pinkish/salmon then the plain tan that TLG used for the old set. With that, the old X-34 was dismantled and is now in pieces, in my parts bin. Another improvement over the older set is Luke's hair piece; I think it looks MUCH better now, less Prince Valiant and much closer to what Mark Hamill looked like in the movie.
