I think you have a good idea The Brickster, but I have no faith in LEGO whatsoever to deliver a theme giving your idea the justice it deserves. By adding Spanish and Mexican armies to the Western theme it would bridge the gap between Pirate and Western. Maybe they could even share a Spanish sub-theme! We can dream... can't we? I don't understand why Lego wouldn't make a Vintage line that reproduces old sets or makes sets that cater to AFOL... I guess there just isnt enough of us to make a dent in sales... For example... if Lego rereleased the 6086 Black Knights Castle... would it sell incredibly well... or would lots of AFOLs buy it but not many kids and perhaps this simply isn't enough for lego...

    The GREAT historical LEGO WAR!!!

...irgh... fine you guys are screwed when the Exploreons are re-introduced(Worse than death?). (I think they had some light grey) Okay... if they didnt than I know that Unitron stuff did!
  4. Your ending was hilarious. You bring up many good points... I can't really argue with what you said. I just told Phes that I think KK2 is not Castle... but perhaps after reading this I will have to change my mind. Who knows. I need time to think. ANd mostly I need to stop thinking about Lego and think about other stuff. No one is stopping me from building the kind of castles I want and admiring the ones I want. Maybe there will be some other good arguments... I will sit back and watch the debate flow for now on... only offering my 2cents when I feel like it :-D

I believe what he means is that all of these Conquistadors look alot like your avatar - Breastplates, Morions, red torsos, and unshaven faces.

    The Mighty Conquistador Army

Phes you both intrigue me and irritate me. Because this theme idea I thought of is indeed of my own, everything I say on the matter of the idea is correct! For the theme in my mind, it was to be around the time of first contact. So in my idea it would be set in the latr 1400s or early 1500s! Hate it or love it is my idea and I am not arguing for this to be a pirates theme... but if you look it is closer to the Castle Timeline (500-1500) than the Pirates of System Lego (Which due to many hints (like the Imperial Armies using Flintlock weapons and the uniforms) ) took place in the late 1600s-1700's. I researched and it says the Golden Age of Piracy lasted from 1560-1720 - which would mean it only started dying out AFTER this time... as the dates inside were the golden age. The Pax Romana was when the Roman Empire was at its best... you don't say Rome was falling in the later years of the Pax Romana... you say it was falling apart after the Pax Romana. I think we can probably assume that Pirate lego takes place from 1670-1720. Besides... if you look at the models that inspired me... they are armed with Crossbows, breastplates and broadswords. Certainly not the main weapons of imperial armies in the 17th and 18th centuries. And it doesnt matter what your seller friend thought he was doign when he put those pieces together! His little lot made me think of an idea that I liked and I presented here. Because it is the late 1400's/early 1500s... I thought it would be closer to castle... but due to the fact that the Castle we know and love is not even truely historical(They are all made up factions)... this Conquistador Idea would have to be of its own. I have figured out the flaw with my comparison... and it was none of the reasons you presented! Whether or not my idea belongs with Castle isn't the point. It certainly doesn't belong with Pirates though as this is in the early stages and there was little piracy going on in the Carribean(not enough to make a theme about it) in the late 1400's/early 1500s. And it would consist of two NON-PIRATE factions - the Azteks and the Conquistadors! And Castle has nothing right now! KK2 is crap and I would hardly consider it true castle! It is more like He-Man as blueandwhite pointed out! Now lets put our differences on my idea aside Phes. You know as well as I do that this theme... or anything historically and carribean related - would be amazing. Us Pirate fans have to stick together. If we didn't than the poll on Pirates vs. Castle would be even more catastrophic than it is.

And Brickster... do not forget the amazing possibility of a Western Train subtheme... or even a single Western Train set... this could be amazing and come with a cool group of Train robbers(one of which could be unique to the set) to raid the train! It would be like Pirates in the desert... and it would lead to the inclusion of a Trainstation/Yard set as well... ...and we cannot forget the inclusion of Mexicans or a rival Nation to fight against the US. (Although because the blue soldiers are officially United States forces (they have U.S. on there belt buckles... Lego may not want to include the Mexicans and call them that...)

After reading the storyline I am looking forward to this theme based on the possibility of cool pieces and maybe even cool sets. I have stopped my hatred against Fleshtones because at least Fleshtones only mean flesh heads and hands - I can change the hands to yellow and put on a new head - no problem. I hope this is System! If it is the same crap as Galidor I will projectile vomit for 3 days. No lie. (not because this Anime is amazing... but because Galidor was so low in legos books it hurt) (P.S. - I love Anime... Patlabor is my favorite actually... how about some freaking Patlabor Lego that would be wicked)

    Oh my!

I will have to order them all from UK, the US and Canada than... Or we could reach an accord. I'll have the Northern Hemisphere and you can have the Southern... but that doesn't really seem fair...

    Turners Cross

Phes, you should really look into building some MOC's. I'd like to see what you could come up with!
  15. Because Orient Expedition uses alot of the exact same Characters... I'd say it is a Subtheme of Adventurers... or just a logical continuation of it. Like the Pirate theme... Redbeard was around from 1989-1996.
  16. It is more foolish to change something for the sake of change. If you like lego solely for how good the set looks built on your shelves than I can't say we are on the same page. As a person who loves building a lego set... admiring it for what it is and tinkering with it... and then eventually taking it apart to build something of my own... I find little value in the <insert that tiresome argument> junk known as KK2. I find little value in something that will just look good on a shelf and can not be modified at all as a large portion of the pieces are so specialized. Castle would not have become boring because there are so many ideas that could have been done. And KK2 isn't much different than anything else except it lacks quality, uses rainbow coloured knights, and tells people buying lego sets what the story is. Very little room for imagination. They could have even made KK2 in the old style - (that is good set design and less specialized pieces) and It wouldn't have been that bad. Also... liking older lego designs and being someone stuck in the 80s are actually incredibly different... Lego isn't my whole life... actaully it isn't even my biggest hobby... and most people here have much more hobbies than Lego... so saying we are "stuck in the 80s" because we like vintage lego is a fairly ignorant comment.

    The Mighty Conquistador Army

Well this theme would take place in the 1500s whereas the Pirates took place in the 1700s. It is obvious that the conquistador army you showed us from eBay is based on earlier expeditions as they are are all armed with Crossbows, swords and armor. And I recall you wondering whether Ninja is part of the Castle Theme - but yet Ninja takes place in Japan... so how come with my idea it is all of a sudden NOT Castle based on geography but yet you think it is possible to put Ninja within the castle theme. LoL.
  18. Sting

    Oh my!

It will be a battle. At least I know my shipping for the most part will be cheaper(Or will it be more... since the more lego you order the higher shipping costs) :P

    The Mighty Conquistador Army

Seeing that auction really makes me want a Conquistador theme of lego... it could be part of the Castle theme and have the Explorers and the Natives... who would be based on the Azteks... the 2 big sets in the theme would be the Aztek Temple and the Explorers ship. It would be amazing.
  20. I definately agree with Blueandwhite, Lost Viking, and Sir Dillon (lol) The only thing is... I just hope LEGO considers KK2 a seperate theme. If they consider it the Castle theme than we'll be stuck with this crap forever...or until they realize how crappy there sets are... (I am sorry... I don't share the optimism of alot of people here and I see very little good about the KK2 sets...) I wish that lego would just get any other historical theme going. The Dino Attack line in early promo pictures appeared to look like a new Adventurers Theme(do people recall that cool looking Prop plane?). But they ditched that for the crappy Dinoattack we see now. I only call Ninja a castle subtheme because it is basically Far Eastern castles... which would make sense... and the Far eastern powers did use gunpowder more widely than Europeans did at the same time... As i mention every day I wish lego would bring these sets back from the dead or start fresh with some new good themes. I wouldn't even mind Bley if the sets were good...

Sheriffs Lockup! It was the only set I had... and even though it may not be the BEST (Fort Legoredo or Gold City Junction probably has that... although all the sets were good... especially Frontier Patrol as it was the only real good Historical Army builder released besides the old old Classic Castle sets) It is DEFINATELY my Favorite! I remember I played with it for hours... I even surprised myself with how much I had... and it came with a crapload of guns!

    Brickmoor Castle

I am more into Pirate MOC's... but because most Fortresses in this time were basically Castles in white and yellow... so Bley isnt as big a problem to me as it is to others... ... but I am going to make a Northern Fort.... and this will aquire grey... I think I have enough old grey to build this but if I want to build more(which I will eventually) than I will need to get more... Curious - why do you suggest getting lots of new grey instead of old Gray?

    Brickmoor Castle

I don't know where to start. I said alot in the post in which I requested but there is so much more to say... The hieght of the walls. I have seen many castle MOCs with nice walls but the sheer height of yours is very striking. Impending. The crosses and accent bricks look great. The terrain is some of the best I've seen. It flows and mixes very well. What color baseplates did you use for the whole thing? The house-ish areas inside the castle(the black and white and red buildings.. over looking the courtyard) look perfect too. The throne room with the checkered backrounds. There is too much to say. This is one of the best castle MOC's I've seen. Your others are very good too! I love the Santa Claus(St.Nick) Vignette! P.S. How did you aquire all those grey bricks? The supply seems to be endless!
