  1. Hello So I took the plunge on the LEGO 7939 Cargo Train. I wanted to see how I could make my current railway set up better. I am very suprised by this package. I think I was only really interested in the PF part of it but after a couple of pleasant theroputic hours assembling the set I am very impressed! If anyone wants to start their Lego Train journey and has no nostalgic attachments to the 12v system then this is the set to do it! It's helped me understand what I can now do to subtly improve my 12v system keeping some costs down buying current products. The 9v motor/power package has some serious grunt in it with fully charged batteries! Infact its the wheel slip (that old chesnut) and the magnets decoupling that stop the train from hurtling off with 5+ wagons or coaches attached! Are their any modifications for the 7939 Loco? Any lights etc? Thanks Tarbs

How Do You Disassemble a 12v Transformer?

Well my permanent 12v is almost unusable on this transformer and it is a connection issue within the transformer. Someone must know how to dismantle it?
  3. Hi All, I have a number of grey 12v transformers and one of them has a niggle where the permanet ancillary 12v supply is intermittant and when I gently shake the transformer I can here something moving about. I want to have look. Does anyone now how to get inside? I see a number of nipple things around the lower edge of the plastic casing. Do they all need to be press in and then the lower part gently removed? Any help would be great Tarbs
  4. Hello I have to share my delight in coming across a 7745 in its box with instrucions 100% complete and in MINT condition. The person I bought it off new that is was something other than just a box of Lego but what I got for my money has put a big smile on my face. As I say every piece is present including a barely used sticker sheet. The motor is really rapid too. I now have 3 7745's in various states of condition. This one may now become the replacement and I can flog the other two sets off!

Replacing my 12 train rolling stock wheels.

Thanks all. I will see what happens with the 'oiling' - i'll do some tests this weekend. Tarby
  7. Hi, I have been inspired by seeing someone commenting that they had replaced all their old 12v type wheels with the newer 9v ones for less friction. I would like to do the same. I am fairly new to tracking this stuff down but I can see this: The complete wheel - comprising of the housing (bearing element - 2878), the wheels (57878) and the small metal shaft (89815???) - which I can buy from the lego website. Is that correct. I cant tell if the shaft is the metal one or not. Can someone please help me? Thanks Tarby
  8. Thanks for that on the PF. I think I might get a set from eBay and try it out. I am interested in the suggestions on the engines you mention. Can you message me? Thanks Tarby
  9. Hi, Does anyone know which 12v trains can be converted to the new power function remote/receiver/motor? And what do I need to watch out for if I go ahead and convert one? I see the wisdom in one of the posts I have seen about running lots of trains on tracks indeptendly and not having to coin out too much on isolating the tracks etc. Tarbs

    NEW MEMBERS TRAIN TECH Registry

Thanks all! So I have sorted out, cleaned, rebuilt all my old stuff. I have bought a few things on eBAY.. There is this one guy that keeps sniping me by 50p and the like.. Most annoying. Ive made a rule that I will never pay more than the lowest price on BrickLink. I think that safe guards me a little. Thanks for the advice on prices - this pretty much confirms what I have already seen. I am fortunate to have a faily large foot print of a house and the track can basically follow a huge loop around the full are of the house as our stair case to upstairs is in the middle.. The kids are loving it and apparently after last weekend keep asking their mums when are they coming back to Uncles!! I dont want to over do it. I think I have a good set up and know what extras I want. Thanks for all the advise so far - its very good. Tarby

    NEW MEMBERS TRAIN TECH Registry

Hi All, I am new to the forums. I have the pleasure of reliving my childhood with my little nephews as they 'come to age'.. So 1980 - 1986 I was a lucky chap and was given almost all the later 1980s sets. I was able to save them from being sold off and last weekend a couple of big plastic boxes revealed how I had left them on that last 'I have had enough of this' day back in 1986.. Its amazing how its all survived many hot summers and cold winters in my parents out building. Anyway.. Back then the sets were purchased as various birthday or Christmas presents and I was able to save some pocket money for some of the extras.. Many extras I simply couldnt afford and so were left as memories of what some of by better of child hood friends had... I am now currently building a set in my house that my little nephews can play with and also for me to buy those cool additional items! I am enjoying rebuilding everything and seeking out the odd piece that I have some how missing... How expensive is some of this stuff? I see some of the accessories - the signals, the lights, the motorised points... Is Lego plastic really gold? Are there any other 12v fans on here? Also how do I make up those cool little train signatures I can see people using on here? Tarby

    Hello I am a Newbie!

Hi All, Im the new boy. I have recently been interested in my childhood Lego 12v train systems and now 20 odd years old and the urge to burn holes in my pockets I have been buying replacement sets of those that I sold many years ago and to purchase the sets that were beyond my paper boy pocket money! Are there people on here that have a similar interest in the 12v trains? Where do I find them? Thanks Tarby
