    M4-22 The Winners!

Grand Admiral Oky reporting for duty! Wow, thank you so much! What an incredible honor. And congrats to the other winners! There were lots of amazing entries in this contest. I had a lot of fun making these entries. Thanks for another great contest and I look forward to next year!
  2. Mickey’s safari vest from the new camping set seems useful. Not sure if it has anything on the back that might ruin its usefulness like his aviator jacket.
  3. The G.O.A.T. castle set is the 7189 Mill Village Raid from the Kingdoms theme. Quite literally, as it is the only set to ever feature the highly coveted goat figure! This is my micro recreation of it at half the scale. It has all of the details and even all the play features of the original. The barn can be opened up to access the interior where the trap door and stable doors can be opened. The windmill can be rotated and the sails can be spun by turning the crank in the back which turns the mill inside. The bucket inside the mill can be tilted as well.
  4. Thanks everyone! I'd love to see this used in Heroica! Thanks! Unfortunately, I cheated a bit on some of the part colors. Most notably, the binoculars don't exist in neither white nor brown, so I wouldn't be able to build the goats unless I change them to gray with tan horns. Maybe when the parts become available in the right colors.
  5. Heyo dalee! Mesa Oky Oky Binks. My can taken yousa to Otoh Gunga. Tis hidden city and da most safest place on Naboo. Yousa follow me now okyday? One of the many things that don't get enough love in the prequels is the design of the Gungan city, Otoh Gunga. With all its glowing orbs and the angelic John Williams music playing, I can't help but feel a sense of wonder every time I see it. This vignette depicts the scene in The Phantom Menace where Obi-Wan Kenobi, Qui Gon Jin and Jar Jar Binks take a Bongo sub to travel to Theed and includes a light brick inside the main bubble. Here is a reference image:
  6. During the era of the Galactic Republic, many starfighters were too small to safely contain a hyperdrive and required a hyperdrive ring to travel through hyperspace. The 0-KY1 starfighter (pronounced "Oky-Wan") or "O-Wing" was the first attempt at building a starfighter capable of hyperspace travel by incorporating a hyperdrive ring into its design. The Republic hoped to gain an edge in the Clone Wars by using it for surprise attacks where the fighters could drop out of hyperspace and engage the enemy immediately without the need of having to disconnect from a hyperdrive ring first. Unfortunately, due to its impractical shape, the concept was soon abandoned. It featured a slanted, more aerodynamic design than traditional hyperdrive rings with a cockpit on the lower half and two turrets on the upper wing. The turrets could rotate 360 degrees and be aimed up and down. This slant also made it so that the ship had an O-shape not only when viewed from the front and back, but from the bottom and top as well, which gave it the nickname "O-Wing". It accommodated space for one pilot as well as one astromech droid to assist with hyperspace jump calculations. The cockpit could be detached from the ring to serve as an escape pod for when the ring got damaged... which happened quite often due to it being such a large target. With this entry, I tried to take a silly shape and make it work in-universe. I hope you like it. And kudos if you're an old enough member to remember when I used to call myself Oky Wan Kenobi on here and got the reference. May the 4th be with you... in June.
  7. Thanks! It’s a tight fit, but it works. I tried to keep the cockpit as small as possible to not ruin the O-shape. Otherwise it would have looked more like a Q.
  8. The Outcasts are a ragtag team of scavengers from across different species, backgrounds, and age groups. The thing that unites them aside from their dirty clothes and rusty armor is the fact that they have all been cast aside by the Empire in some form or another. Hunted and unwanted, they were all alone before they met each other and had nowhere to call home, but in becoming scavengers, they have found new purpose and become a family. Together, these misfits travel the galaxy looking for valuable items to salvage that have been thrown or cast out by others much like they were - and find the value in themselves along the way. Sabreena Vex Sabreena is one of the few remaining Mandalorians and the leader of the team. She survived the Great Purge of Mandalore, but she lost everything in the attack: Her home, her armor, and her husband and children. She now roams the galaxy scavenging pieces of Mandalorian armor to rebuild her own. To help her in this quest, she enlisted the help of other outcasts of the Empire and ended up building a new family as well for, and she will do anything to protect it. She is a strong fighter and dedicated leader, but also very caring. While she does not follow the Way of the Mandalore like the Children of the Watch and removes her helmet when not on a mission, she does follow a strict code of honor. She now wears an old Mandalorian helmet that she modified with a visor and a makeshift jetpack which help her locate and scavenge items in high places. Vigo Idalgo Vigo, or "Vig" for short, is a teenage Devaronian whose horns have not quite grown out yet and is in charge of the team's finances and explosives. Vigo's parents used to run a large criminal organization on the planet where he grew up. The Idalgos were in control of a large section of the planet, and when the Empire took it over, the Imperials saw them as a threat to their authority and had them executed, orphaning young Vigo. Vig managed to escape the attack and spent the next few years growing up on the streets. Using what he had learned from his parents, he turned to crime to earn credits, stealing and selling valuable items on the black market. One day, Sabreena caught him trying steal from her, but instead of punishing him, she offered him to leave his life of crime behind and join her scavenger crew which he accepted. Sabreena now teaches him to live by a code of honor like her and he has come to see her as a mother figure. Vig uses his eye for valuables and his connections to the criminal underworld to sell any parts that the Outcasts salvage. No matter how obscure or illegal the items they find are, Vig "knows a guy" to sell them to. Like many teenagers, Vig is mischievous, rambunctious, and impulsive and often gets himself into trouble. He also loves to blow stuff up, so when the team needs to blow apart some wreckage or create a distraction to get away from the Empire, Vig is happy to oblige with his collection of explosives. Kara Te Kara Te is one of the few Kaminoans who survived the Empire's destruction of the cloning facility on Kamino, and she is a scientist at heart and a clever inventor. After her lab and home was destroyed, she went into hiding from the Empire and continued her scientific research in secret using any scrap that she could gather. For any hard-to-find parts that she needed, she had to resort to buying from the black market which is where she met Vigo. He used to sell her electronic parts, and when the Outcasts needed a medic and engineer, he recruited her for the team due to her great scientific knowledge. She builds all of the teams gadgets such as Sabreena's jetpack, Vig's detonators, and Scrapper's body, and she even invented a device that can detect nearby valuable items to scavenge. Despite what her name might suggest, Kara is not good at fighting and will avoid conflict as much as possible, usually keeping to herself, although she does carry a vibro-blade for defense and is always happy to use her tech skills to get the team out of dangerous situations. She also wears a helmet that she modified with various gizmos and carries a pack of parts and tools wherever she goes. Kara is a calm and rational thinker which often puts her at odds with Vig's wild and juvenile behavior. 5C-R4P a.k.a. Scrapper Scrapper is the team's droid helper. He was built out of various discarded droid parts by Kara Te to serve as her lab assistant. He has the torso of an astromech, the head of a Pit droid, the right leg of GONK droid, the left leg of a cyborg Sith, the right arm of a protocol droid, and the left arm of a battle droid, along with some extra arms with tools on his back. But don't let his size and arsenal of sharp, pointy tools intimidate you. Under all that rough scrap metal, he has a big, mild-mannered heart and he will do anything to help his friends. Scrapper is Vigo's best friend and the two are often seen together. Unfortunately, having only been built recently, Scrapper is a bit naive and often gets roped into Vig's mischief. He uses his tools to tear apart wreckage during scavenge missions and to fix their ship. Gramps Gramps is an elderly Chadra-Fan and the team's pilot. While he's not actually related to any of the Outcasts, everyone calls him that as he has become a sort of grandfather to their family. He used to be an ace pilot in his youth andhas a lot of experience traveling the galaxy, but he had trouble finding work when the Empire took over. Not only are Chadra-Fans treated as lesser beings by the Empire, but no one takes him seriously as a capable pilot due to his age as well. He met the Outcasts when they were looking for someone to fly their ship. He was being kept as a pet by an Imperial officer at the time and promised to be their pilot if they helped him escape, and so they did. He was very grateful and has been their pilot ever since. While he is getting a bit senile and losing his sight and hearing, he has a lot of wisdom to depart to the team and knows all the best places in the galaxy to go scavenging - if he can remember how to get there.

    May the 4th Contest - 2022

I’m guessing the Grand Admiral winner will be determined in a similar way? It’s a sum of the scores of only the entrant’s best entry in each category? Great entries everyone! Looking forward to the results.

    May the 4th Contest - 2022

    My entries:
  11. Hello there! For my entry for the creature category, I chose to recreate one of my favorite mounts from the saga: Boga the Varactyl. She is a beautiful creature and desperately needs a remake in Lego. Here is a reference image for comparison: Here she is carrying Obi-Wan to his confrontation with General Grievous. She is highly poseable, allowing you to recreate various scenes, such as when she rears up. Her beak can be opened and closed, and even some of here blue feathers are adjustable. Like in the movie, she is very long and carries a saddle on her back. Her tail consists of four segments, making very flexible. Let me know what you think, and may the force be with you.
  12. Lightyear is here, and a more gritty and serious Buzz means a more gritty and serious Oky. I'm super serious! :smug:

  13. Yeah, I don't think I can justify $160 for that Justifier. I mean, it's a decent set, but what were they thinking when they came up with that price?! And of course they'd put Cody into a big, overpriced set as well... This on top of the $50 they're asking for a blob of gray with Vader and Kenobi on it just solidifies why I don't collect this theme anymore...
  14. Thanks! And yes, it's a surprisingly solid build! Although the two sticks serving as the landing gear are struggling to keep it upright.
  15. Thanks! Feel free to do so. Thank you! That’s what I love about her; it’s such a unique and colorful design that doesn’t seem to get enough love which is why I chose it for my entry.
  16. Thanks! I agree, if Lego ever makes another Boga, a molded head like the ones on the creatures in Newt's Suitcase would be perfect, but this is as good as I could make it now.
  17. Nice rendition of Boga! Good to see others taking a crack at her. Looks like we had a similar idea with the feet. I also think the limbs are a bit too thin, but the head looks nice. Good luck and may the force be with you.
  18. For my entry for the Dynamic Action Contest, I decided to build a vignette loosely based on the Battle of New York from the first Avengers movie where the Earth's Mightiest Heroes are fighting the Chitauri army in the streets of New York City. I tried to use as many different effects as possible, from smoke and fire to water and energy effects, along with some dynamic posing and motion blur to really create a sense of action. On the ground level, Hulk has smashed a Chitauri soldier so hard into the ground that it created a dent in the pavement and caused a nearby fire hydrant to erupt. Here is a better view of the crater without the figs. I used the "round plates on a net" technique to create the distortion. On the first floor, Hawkeye is shooting a Chitauri soldier below while in mid-air and Black Widow is kicking one through a window. On the second floor, Iron Man is blasting a Chitauri chariot that is bursting through the building while a beloved comic book creator is sticking his head out of the window to complain about the noise. On the roof, Captain America is taking out a Chitauri general with a throw of his shield while Thor is charging up for a lightning attack. I hope you like it and will give it a vote once the voting starts.
  19. Nice entry. I was thinking about doing this scene as well, but couldn’t find a good way to fit such an epic scene into a 12x12 space. You did a fairly good job at it and I like how everything seems to be moving. Good luck!
  20. Ha! Fun idea for an entry. Way to make the best of what you got, and having fun is what these contests are all about. Not sure if it counts as a scene from the movies, but that’s up to the judges to decide. I think you can take it further though. It would be even funnier and more 3-dimensional if you added a confused/disgusted janitor about to pick up the hand. Also, why not add some greebled walls as well?

    May the 4th Contest - 2022

Makes sense, thanks! Good question indeed. The U-Wing really pushed the limits of how big an alphabet fighter could be. That thing was a whole gunship! Seems fair to limit it to 2 pilots and an astromech though.

    May the 4th Contest - 2022

Begun it has! And what great prizes! The themes aren’t as unique as last year, but that just makes this feel like a classic contest. Definitely gonna try to enter a few of these categories. Grand Admiral Oky would have a nice ring to it. One question: Can the minifigures be of made-up characters? Also, do brick-built droids count?
  23. So… Where are the details? Has the contest been postponed?
  24. Might be a bit late to give feedback on this, but here is my thoughts: I think it might be better to have a small category along with a large one, like a small speeder, droid or vignette. This might make the contest more accessible for people who don’t have enough time or bricks to build an entire ship or scene like in last year’s contest.
