My one hope hinges on the "regular knights" part of this rumor. This theme is sounding more and more like Chima with castle-style heraldry (and not even that much is certain).

[MOC] Welcome to Gaza (Banksy Cat)
Ardelon replied to TheBrickAvenger's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Very artistic. It must have taken a lot of work to position the parts just right. I like the flag as well - its all very revolutionary!- 14 replies

Wow, what a monumental build! Awe-inspiring as a temple should be. And the details, like the portico floor mosaic and the doors, are lovely and emphasize the grandeur.
-
A great series of MOCs! The horse is particularly well built, to avoid any blockiness. But I also love the ornateness of the buildings.

Kind of weird the link leads to a petition for money for Down syndrome... Oh well, good luck to the 27 petitioners, whatever their cause may be.

I can only say one really good thing about KK2 – at least it had an epic-style storyline with multi-year continuity. I have no problem with Chima so long as it stays out of the Castle theme . Never seen the series, so I dont know how that would skew my opinion. Considering Nexo Knights, I wonder how the steampunk rumors will play out. Honestly, the logo evokes more dieselpunk, maybe even cyberpunk. Steampunk in itself could be pretty cool, though still not ok for a castle theme - unlike some here, I dont find steampunk siege engines any better than steampuk modern vehicles, in the context of a Castle theme. But still much better than robotics and eletronics. So I guess the best way a robo-horse can turn out is indeed a steampunk Trojan horse.

LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 14 Rumors and Discussion
Ardelon replied to Robert8's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Nah, I couldnt bring myself to modify LEGO this way. Noted on the Fly movie, though it still bugs me (pun intended). But I guess one new claw piece per fig is better than none. -
Well, compared to these Nexo Knights, the 2013 theme is starting to look positively outstanding. The touted „originality“ of this theme is pretty worthless if the „original“ bits are unusable in a castle setting (to the extent that this really is a Castle theme). Of course the theme may still be a pleasant surprise – the LEGO movie Castle Cavalry set was OK, so a something similar could be good. But Im not holding my breath, with Robo horses and all. I hope they will tone down any jellybean aspect, at least. Color-coded could be fine, after all, all previous factions used faction colors on their torsos or sleeves or legs. Apprehensively waiting for pictures.

LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 14 Rumors and Discussion
Ardelon replied to Robert8's topic in Special LEGO Themes
I must say in my view that this series is tied with the Simpsons series 2 as 2nd „worst“ (as in unusable); the no.1 spot goes to the Simpsons series 1. Here are a few observations from the final pics. * Wolfman: A better werewolf than the previous CMF or the MF one, which, as someone above noted, rather looks like a bear. And nice to get the tail piece. * Zombie pirate: The beard really completes the minifig, but i do wish the splotches on his coat were a more natural brown than dark bley. Now I cant help thinking he splattered hmself with wet cement. * Fly: Im not a fan of the imbalance of the figure having only one claw. I guess its meant to be an incomplete transformation. Not to mention that flies dont have claws. But its a clever way of making people buy two of them. Not a fan of the green hairs either – it just messes up the black-and-red scheme. * Cat lady: looks more like a woman in a suit than a „monster“. Unless a kinky furry fetish girl with a whip is seen as monstrous. Reminds me of this pair of custom figures. * Gargoyle: One of the better figs, but still, I never associated gargoyles with shortness. Normal legs and bigger wings would have looked better. I wonder why they made the small wings at all, since they look much too small on any minifig. * Banshee: Intriguing fig, with the light sandgreen color. But not attractive for me. * Spider lady: The detail on her beehive is nice, but it makes the hairunuable in a normal setting. -
General Pirates of the Caribbean Theme Discussion Thread
Ardelon replied to Oswald the Rabbit's topic in LEGO Pirates
Nice! Just so long as you spend the difference on more LEGO... -
Wonderful work on the facial expression (It looks like the eyes were made for this)! And on the entire build of the captain too! My one little nitpick is thatthe knees look toobig. Is it necessary for the posing?

Wow, what a development. I thought that an increase by 16 pages since I was last here meant pics were available. Im among those that are more or less glad that Nekchirs rumors arent legit. tran-yellow armor and helmets? No thanks. Was the fortress on legs and wheels also part of his rumors or is this from another source? Not sure what to think about that logo. Could simply be polished metal, as in weapons and armor, not necessarily anything too futuristic. Although the "font" doesnt give me much hope...

MOC Architecture : The Cathedral of Strasbourg
Ardelon replied to DanSto's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Really cool MOC! Its amazing how youve managed to capture the intricacy of the cathedral in such a small scale. I remember how impressed I was by the cathedral (and not just the spire, but the main body) towering over the old town when I visited... I imagine it was even more impressive before the era of skyscrapers. -
I am in the "keep it simple" camp, to make it as easy as possible for newcomers to jump on the bandwagon. Maybe, if members would want more, they could vote on it somewhere down the line, but it should start simple. But having said that, I dont see myself joining anytime in the foreseeable future, so my vote should be weighted as such.

I went and reread Explorers on the Moon after i saw this . Great job in capturing the curves and the details!

Great work on the construction techniques that convey the sense of being overwhelmed! Im sure a lot of us can relate...

LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 14 Rumors and Discussion
Ardelon replied to Robert8's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Well, I wanted to wait until weve seen them all, but what the heck. Not thrilled about the theme of this series; I see this as a weak addition and am looking forward to a non-themed series asap. With that said, here goes: - Cat girl: one of the better executed figs, but not useful to me. Like many others, my first thought was 1960s Catwoman (never heard of the other comics character she was compared to). - Skeleton boy: same as above (apart from the catwoman thing) - Plant guy: Interesting concept and execution. A gaping plant-mouth on the other side of the head would sell it, but that looks unlikely. I might have preferred to see the genie tail piece representing a stalk, but I guess this is meant to be a guy in costume. - Witch: Bit too „fabulous“ for me. I like my witches darker. But I hope we see more of that hat+hair mold. - Frankenrock monster (bilingual puns ftw): Pure meh. Probably the weakest of them. - Zombie pirate captain: One of the top 3 so far (probably the best). I would have preferred brown splotches on his suit, but thats not too serious. Not sure about the hat, though, will probably change it. - Zombie cheerleader: Nice diversity for a zombie army. We could use a non-happy female zombie face, though. I also though of Harley Quinn when I saw that hairpiece. - Zombie businessman: Nice. Not much to say about it. - Spider lady: One of the top 3 so far. Will probably change the hair. - Mad scientist: Not a fan of the headpiece, but the rest of the fig looks good. Still waiting for that red (or dark red) flask... - Werewolf: Nice in-joke with the lumberack (and i prefer my wolves gray rather than brown), but otherwise probably second worst after (or is it before?) the FrankenRocker. - Gargoyle: One of the top 3 so far. Not completely thrilled, but decent. Like others, I wouldhave preferred folded wings andlong legs, but the legs at least are easily fixed. - Bigfoot: Actually pretty good. I dont really mind the lack of printing – it does have foot printing after all. Though of course I wouldnt say no to yeti-level printing. - Spectre?: Too messy for me. Less than the sum of its parts, which are nice on their own. Face reminds me of Casper the Friendly Ghost, not really in a good way. But GitD is cool, I guess. I agree with others that a ghost tail piece (or even this ectoplasm piece) in white would have been better. Looking forward to the fly guy and the banshee. I share the opinion here that the Grim Reaper was a hiccup in translation. -
Some good ideas here. I like the idea of a hospital theme made out of separate wards, or a TV/news theme made out of separate stages of the process. A zoo theme would be Great too, though Im afraid themes like this would go to Friends. But it would be a good way to make the most out of their rarely-used animal molds (like the camel or ostrich from PoP), and reuse some animals from the Friends universe, minus the Disney eyes and eyelashes. A school theme I dunno, seems like kids have enough of school already. Its true that Friends got a hgh school, but it seems to me that girls would play differently with a school than boys, the main target group of City. I heard that girls play is more grounded, with them acting out real life relationships that can be placed in a school setting. Boys play is more out there, with the school more likely used as something to be destroyed by some supervillain. But sure, I myself wouldnt say no to a school subtheme.

Pretty disappointing so far, but the cleaning sets (and maybe the rescue sets) might be a breath of fresh air. And, of course, thanks, legomilk.

Well, it was really hard to choose the best one - as I moved on to each MOC, I kept thinking this one is the best ! But in all, I like the gym the most. Not sure why, it goes completely against my real-world interests (maybe because I feel guilty?) - all the more kudos to you. But what are the maracas supposed to be? BTW, second place goes to the home Office. My favorite feature, though, are the blinds in the living room - they give the room a rather impersonal, office-like look, which Im not sure you were going for, but it strikes me how it changes the feel of the room for me.

I too am put off by vehicles crowding out buildings. Even when I was a kid, I wasnt really a car fan and I preferred buildings, where much more stories and stuff could happen. I guess that TLGs market research says that kids like I was are in the minority. But I do agree with Iaka above that it seems to be getting better. Lets hope the trend continues.

Wow, what a stunning set! Im much more of a show fan than a set fan, so not buying it, but still. Great details. My favorite is the usage of the garage doors as the curved roof. It acutally feels too extravagant minifig-wise ,with all the ninjas, plus Wu, Misako and the mailman, PLUS three more (counting the statue). One little nitpick is that we get the elvish weapons, but STILL in gold rather than some other color, but I guess the gold color was the reason they were used in the first place.

LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 14 Rumors and Discussion
Ardelon replied to Robert8's topic in Special LEGO Themes
I would say shes simply a spider-themed monster, not a vampire. Vampires arent the only creatures with chalk-pale faces or fangs. -
The designers could make the Mosasaurus brick-built, or with molded jaws and a brick-built upper body. Just big enough that a LEGO shark would fit in its jaws. After all, they did a OK job with Smaug, so they could manage a Mosasaurus. Edit: Have only seen the trailers, so dont know if that would be enough for recreating the story.
