  1. Hey this is my first review. I have not been trained by The Academy but I thought some of you might want to see this set. I found it last night at a Fred Meyer in Boise, ID. Building this set and listening to the new Cheap Girls record helped my hangover exponentially. Price: $49.99 Pieces: 336 Minifigs: Cyclops, Storm, Wolverine, Magneto I don't have a fancy city light box or a nice neutral backdrop, so you'll have to make do with my iPhone 5 and my coffee table. I did do my best though. Here is the box: It's pretty big! Here are the contents. 3 bags, 2 big pieces, 1 tiny sticker sheet, 2 mangled instruction booklets and one GOTG/X-Men comic thing. It was pretty incomprehensible and phoned in IMO. Here's a closeup of the comic: Okay, so let's take a look at everyone's favorite part-- the minifigs. I love all four of them. They're in their Claremont/Byrne outfits and I couldn't be happier. I'd also like to note that while Lego portrays Magento as an antagonist in this set, he's dressed in his 80s 'good guy' attire. It's kind of a goofy costume but I love it. Here they are: Let's start with Wolverine. The new mask is fantastic. As you can see, one head features "goggles" so the white eyes make the mask look complete. Works better than Batman's sweat band. He also comes with hair and claws. I love this costume and I couldn't be happier with this minifig. Magneto is next. He comes with a nice red cape, awesome white hair and his traditional helmet. As you can see in the group shot, he also gets a platform to ride around on (way better than the one he had in the Deadpool set) and a clear cylinder brick to carry his helmet with. Great attention to detail. He has a stoic face and an angry face. I'm also super glad they went with white hair instead of grey hair. Here's Cyclops. He's my favorite X-Men character and I'm thrilled to have him, but true to form he's a bit boring compared to the others. Still I am really happy with the end result. idk what's on his back in this pic but we will all have to deal with it/blame Obama. And the best for last-- Storm! Her cape is a bit thicker than your average Lego cape, but it looks great. It easily fits over her wrists. She has two faces and some lightning. Sorry this pic came out like amateur hour, I am not good at planning things out. I am, however, good at liking Storm. I am super impressed. Great character, great minifig. Okay, bag 1 builds the Sentinel, Wolveroonie and Magnus. Lots of pink and purple pieces. The Sentinel's chest and head are printed. They look great. Here's our friend the Sentinel. He's gotten some flack but I like him. He's quite articulated, the new shooter piece works well as his hand laser, he can hold a minifig by the legs and his flick fire missiles aren't obnoxious. I know someone will MOC a better one with these printed pieces but I'm pretty happy with everyone's favorite racist killer robot. Here's bag 2: And what happens at the end of bag 2: And here's bag 3: And the finished product! I loved the build. It's super smooth, sleek and swooshable. It used very little in the way of technic pieces, which is a huge plus for me. There are only 4 stickers and they're all easy to apply. It also fits 4 minifigs! No Blackbird toy has ever been able to fit that many figures before. The old Toy Biz one fit 2 and the X-Men movie one, while it was a beautiful toy, only held one figure. So it's already a winner. Here's the cockpit: And the little War Room section in the back, where Storm and Magneto are looking at a picture of a Sentinel on their iPad: And here are the rear "hidden" shooters. They shoot well and work fine, but I'll probably leave them unloaded as I don't care about missiles. Kids might like it though. There's also a toolbox in the War Room which I forgot to take a picture of. Oh well! Here's one last shot of everything. Okay. So yeah, 336 pieces is pretty absurd for $50. The body is made with 3 pretty huge boat-type pieces though, and it ends up being a good size. And it just looks so sleek-- it's infinitely fun to swoosh around the room. It fits 4 figures and has some cool features. The Sentinel is really fun and the minifigs are superb. The price might be hard to swallow, but there are a ton of good basic bricks, slopes and cool colors in here. I'm very happy with my purchase. Thanks for reading!

I'm sure it wouldn't be too hard if you took out the tool cabinet. Let me know if you do it!

    Review: 76022 - X-Men vs. The Sentinel

I wouldn't say mine is well written or photographed, but I enjoy text/photo reviews more than videos as well. Mostly because I can consume them at my own speed and not wait for someone to try to remember a word for 30 seconds or whatever. Which happens to everyone, it just doesn't make for a compelling use of my time.

Nah, you're not stupid. You're just up on your X-Men comics! That's a good thing.

    REVIEW: 21108 Ghostbusters

Thanks for the review! It looks pretty nice and I've always liked Ghostbusters. Now if only someone would make a version of this, post it to Lego Ideas and get it approved: http://www.tomopop.com/ul/10955-toys-of-yesterday-ghostbusters/FearsomeFlushComp1a-550x.jpg

    Review: 76022 - X-Men vs. The Sentinel

I'd love to see everyone you listed, but Sprite IS Kitty Pryde (though I guess there's a modern character who took the name). Thunderbird is kind of obscure but I don't think the Giant Size X-Men team is complete without him, not that we will ever see him! Sunfire is essential too. I'd love Bishop, Cable, Gambit, Domino, Warpath, Sunfire, Rogue and Jubilee. The X-Men are probably my favorite superhero team as well. My pleasure.

Thanks. I'm sure someone else will come up with something way better, but that's what I found and used.

    Review: 76022 - X-Men vs. The Sentinel

Hope so! I'd love a Thunderbird and a Banshee as well. Agreed. It is small but it's a well designed Blackbird and a fun sentinel with great minifigs. I'm pretty happy.

    Review: 76022 - X-Men vs. The Sentinel

As requested, here are some more photos. Here are some more angles on the Blackbird: Here's a pic of the bottom and what it looks like with some improvised landing gear: Here's Storm from the side and the back: Here are some Wolverine comparisons and a pic of the older Wolverine with the new mask: Here are some Magneto comparisons. Did I miss anything?

My pleasure. That hair piece would have worked well, I agree. It's actually a better choice, but this one is a close second and it looks pretty close to how he looked in New Mutants around the time. I'm just happy that we got a white hairpiece in the first place!

    Review: 76022 - X-Men vs. The Sentinel

Sure, I'll get you covered on that when I get home from work. I agree that he could have had printed boots, but it's styled after a specific Cyclops costume. As daniel gourhan22 said, it's a pretty simple costume and I think they did a good job. It also matches up well era-wise with these Wolverine, Magneto and Storm costumes. Sure, gotta agree there. But that's easy to mod. I would have liked red canopy glass too if we're being honest. Hey, no problem. I love a majority of Claremont's run too so I really like these costumes. Glad you're all enjoying it. I'll be posting the requested pics this evening.

    Review: 76022 - X-Men vs. The Sentinel

I'll take that pic for you tomorrow. It doesn't, which is kind of a drawback. The underside has nothing on it so it doesn't look ugly. No weird technic pieces or overlapping plates or odd colors-- but no landing gear either. It'd be super easy to just put 3 wheels on it though. I might steal them from the recent Batcopter and take a pic for you.

    Review: 76022 - X-Men vs. The Sentinel

I can take some Wolverine and Magneto comparison pics tomorrow when there's more light if you'd like. They're just different costumes and I like both sets. It depends on the look you like best I suppose. The Logan and Magnus from the helicopter set probably have the more iconic costumes though. The only sticker inside the plane is in the little war room area. It's that computer with the Sentinel head on it. I think that area would look dull without it. The controls are printed tiles. There are very few stickers in this set, 4 to be exact. 2 go on the canopy and one goes on the tool cabinet. I like the canopy stickers but it'd look fine without them.

    Review: 76022 - X-Men vs. The Sentinel

There's an X-Men comic (or several? I'm not sure since it makes 0 sense to me) in the later pages. $80? Whoa! I'd say this one is better than the Spider Copter. The Luke Cage, Mary Jane and Ultimate Goblin figs are nice but that vehicle is a bit of a turd. It might look okay in regular SHIELD colors but it's still no Blackbird.

Bootleg Super Heroes minifigs - worth it or not?

According to the new Decool catalog she'll be around very soon.

Bootleg Super Heroes minifigs - worth it or not?

Look, I spend a ton of money on Lego. I feel safe in saying I "support" TLG. I really like these Chinese knockoff minifigs though. I won't buy any character that's received an official Lego fig, but I've happily bought the Fantastic Four, 90s Cyclops, Odin, Winter Soldier, etc. For the most part they're great quality-wise (though obviously not Lego quality). I will buy bootleg SDCC minifigs though because paying $2-400 for Green Arrow or Pheonix seems ridiculous. Those shouldn't have been SDCC figs in the first place. As long as Decool comes out with characters that TLG doesn't, I will totally buy them. And I'll replace them with official minifigures if Lego ever gets around to making them.

    [MOC] Fututron

I love Futuron and have fond memories of it. I think that little spaceship captures the look and charming simplicity of the theme really well. The station looks super cool too. Is that LDD? And if not, can we get some closeups of the inside?

    Review: 30270: Kraang's Laser Turret

I like the Kraang exoskeleton/android body. I think the colors work just fine. I'm a big Krang fan though, so I could be biased. And yeah, shooting the little turtle targets is actually super fun. It's the only time I've ever really enjoyed a flick missile.
  22. I just got Karai Bike Escape and have to say I'm pretty impressed. 2 awesome minifigs (I have all 4 turtles now, which is the best thing to happen to anyone ever), a nice bike, great weapons and actually a pretty decent pack for parts. My mind was racing the whole time I built it-- there's just a lot to work with here. I love the street signs and newspaper stand, too. Those little things really add some character to any Lego world. Price per piece ratio isn't great, but what you do get is amazing. Some really good leftover pieces too. This might be the only set I get from this wave, but I'm super happy with it.

    Purist Superhero Figures

Thanks so much! Thank you. I've been around for a few years. I always lurk but hardly ever post. Well, I got the whole minifig for $3. That's not too bad, considering CMF prices. I only wanted the torso but the blaster, blue police/captain hat and dark blue legs ended up being useful too. Money well spent. Really liking Red Robin and the old school look on Alfred. That Tomahawk warrior head seems like it'd be useful for all sorts of yellow superheroes.

    Purist Superhero Figures

It's a Star Wars republic pilot. I think it came from the Episode I Republic Cruiser. It took me forever to figure out what it was (I saw it in someone's MOC and immediately knew it would be good for Johnny), but it was pretty cheap on Bricklink. And thanks for your kind words!
