A Tale of Revenge: Part 1: The Day the World Stood Still Part 2: Heretic! <--- You are here _______________________________________________________________________________ "Hear ye, the honorable Magistrate Dumond presiding over the court" loudly stated the clerk, as the town magistrate Charles Dumond slowly walked up to his bench. The small courtroom was filled with only necessary people....the judge, clerk, three soldiers, two clerics of the Order, along with a shackled Ragnar and his family. "Concerning the charges of kidnapping brought against you" said Dumond, looking at Ragnar, "based on the testimony provided by your wife, as well as other statements, the court sees no evidence of foul play, and hereby drops the charges against you". Hearing this, Patricia heaved an audible sigh of relief. Gerard Bertrand gave the magistrate a menacing scowl, to which Dumond continued....."however, concerning the charges of paganism and heresy against the Order, Cleric Bertrand has jurisdiction, and full authority under Royal decree. Cleric Bertrand walked to the front of the courtroom, turned and faced everyone, "based on the testimony given, and from the sworn statements of upstanding citizens of Oleon, I Gerard Bertrand, a faithful servant of the Order, do hereby find you Ragnar Halfdan, guilty of worshiping false gods, along with sharing your poisonous beliefs to others." "Furthermore" As he said this, a malicious sneer came across his face, and he raised an envelope in his hand. "....based on your wife Patricia's testimony, The Order charges and finds her guilty of heresy as well. You have been found to be practicing pagan religion, and of forsaking the Order." As he said this, Ragnar uttered a cry, and attempted to leap over the rail to get to Bertrand "I'll kill you! You hear me?!?!?! You're a dead man!" The other Cleric and a soldier moved to restrain Ragnar against the wall. The other soldier held back young Corwin, as the Sergeant pulled another set of shackles, and placed them on Patricia. Bertrand continued almost visibly smiling, "having been found guilty of these crimes, The Order of the Faith hereby sentences both of you to death, to be carried out by Baptism of Fire. Your execution will come in two days time. Your child, as he is still a young boy, will become a ward of the Order, and lend his life in service as penance for your crimes." Having finished the sentencing, Bertrand and the Soldier exited the courtroom, with the prisoners in tow. As he was being forced from the courtroom, Ragnar turned to Corwin and said "remember all that I have taught you son....be brave. You are stronger than you know.....and your mother and I will be with you always." As everyone left, the Magistrate stood up, and muttered to himself "the damned Order has no integrity. I remember the days when they actually stood for something, now they just endlessly pursue this witch hunt.....that poor boy, he is going to lose his family because of this. I wish I had the power to do something....but with Order's actions supported by the King himself, my hands are tied...." This concludes Part 2 of the series. Stay on the lookout for the next chapter, dropping soon!

A Tale of Revenge - Part 2: Heretic!
Corweena replied to Corweena's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Like Keymonus said (and which I mentioned in Part 1), this did occur 20+ years ago, under a King obsessed with the Occult. So its not so far fetched, considering it is historical fact of how much power the Order had under the monarch at the time. And to give credit, the current King is a much more fair and moral ruler. I doubt these things would have occurred with the frequency they used to, in current times. And yes, planks should be coming in future builds. slowly adding to my collection with every bricklink order. We will see.....but I do suspect something is afoot. Exactly what I going for....I read all the background and history threads, and based on the information on the previous King Stephan and his obsession with the occult, I found it was reasonable that something this terrible could have happened under his rule. I'm working on my brown tile collection....every Bricklink order i'm adding on and buying up all that available shades of brown tiles....pretty soon I should have enough to make a decent size floor. Most of my Brick collection is pre-2005, so I lack a lot of the pieces used to make some of the more realistic bits. Slowly expanding my collection with bricklink orders though, for the parts I find I want. That seems to be case -

A beautiful build and fantastic discovery Professor! I love the various stages of uncovering the skeleton. Well done. -
Beautiful. I'd love to see more detail photos of the bridge and landscape from different angles. And Terraversa seems to be moving closer and closer to outright revolt. Which I can speak for every Sea Rat in hoping it happens!

A Tale of Revenge - Part 1: The Day the World Stood Still
Corweena posted a topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
This build marks the start of a multi-part story, which will dive into the past of Corwin Ragnarsson, and uncover some of his motivations for his arrival in Terra Nova. A Tale of Revenge: Part 1: The Day the World Stood Still <--- You are here Part 2: Heretic! _______________________________________________________________________________ Not much is known about the history and origin of Corwin Ragnarrson, other than this. His father, Ragnar, was a Vikendi trader of the Amarok tribe, who made his way across the continent to trade with the peoples of Halos. On one such trip into Oleon, he met Patricia, the daughter of a prominent Naval Captain. Their friendship soon grew to love, yet societal constraints meant they could never be together. So they devised a plan to elope, were married in secret, and escaped into the countryside away from prying eyes and anyone that would know Patricia or her family. A year later, they welcomed a son into the world, who they named Corwin. They lived a modest life in the country, and were happy. During the reign of King Stéphan II, the Order of the Faith enjoyed great power and influence in Oleon. While most clerics enjoyed the wealth and respect the Order offered them during this time, the more fanatical among them found power by a different means....fear. They traveled the country, seeking out those suspected of sorcery, witchcraft, paganism, and another other grievance they could justify. More often than not, the accused were given a sham trial, and when found guilty were summarily executed. Among these fanatics was Gerard Bertrand, a cold evil man, who found pleasure in his work or finding and executing those who would not submit to the Order. Year 599AE, Somewhere in the countryside of Oleon It is a beautiful summer day in Oleon. The family has traveled to the local lake to spend the day together. Ragnar and Patricia stand together watching young Corwin frolic in the water, catching frogs. While he plays, they lay out a blanket, and enjoy a meal on the shore. Suddenly, out of the brush step a group of men, heading directly for the family. Leading the group are two men in robes, showing them as clerics of the Order of the Faith. Following behind are three soldiers. Patricia, seeing the group first, turns pale, and stammers "o-o-oh no" Ragnar stands up, and turning to the group of men, sternly states "what is the meaning of this? Who are you, and why have you come here?" The cleric leading the group, a sneer on his face, says to Ragnar "you are Ragnar the foreigner are you not?", to which Ragnar replies "I am Ragnar Halfdan, of the Amarok Tribe from the land of Vikendia." The cleric turns to the Sergeant, who says "Ragnar Halfdan, you are wanted for the kidnapping of a citizen of Oleon" Shocked, Patricia looks at the Sergeant "if it is me he kidnapped, I assure you tha-" "Furthermore..." cut in the cleric "I Gerard Bertrand, as a sworn servant of the Order, and protector of the Faith, do hereby accuse you of paganism, for worshiping your false gods, and for attempting to force your beliefs on citizens of the empire. You are hereby under arrest, and will be tried for these crimes" The Sergeant pulled out a pair of shackles, and looking at Ragnar said "for the sake of the woman and the boy, make this easy". Ragnar looked at his family, and held out his hands for the irons. The Sergeant turned to the other soldiers, and said "grab the woman and the boy". With that, the group turned and began to make their way away from the lake, towards whatever unknown events that may lie ahead. Looking back, Corwin would think of this as the day his life as he knew it began to change, as the Day the World Stood Still. To be continued..... -
The "why did they not put this out earlier?"
Corweena replied to Captain Braunsfeld's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Hmmmm.....maybe if I do a mod of the the set, I'll call it the "They Should Have Put This Out Earlier" Coloration of the set looks great, its a nice neutral color and different from most ship liveries. -

A Tale of Revenge - Part 1: The Day the World Stood Still
Corweena replied to Corweena's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Thank you! Thanks. Hoping to make a nice series out of it. Still unsure how long it will be, but hoping at least 6-8 parts. ....unless you wanted the picnic for yourselves? Yeah, I didn't want to use the Obi-wan head....so Luke it is. You might see some other familiar faces in the future too.... -
Agreed that the junk is fantastic (as are all your ships). Nice use of creating a hull portion of the Oleonaise ship to serve as the background to activity on the junk.

[SR - Challenge III - Cat D] No Survivors
Corweena replied to Corweena's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Thank you! I was really happy with how it turned out. While I can see how it could be seen as an Oleonaise uniform, upon closer inspection you can find it is but a simple blue jacket over a striped red and white shirt. But, any conclusions that may be drawn concerning said uniforms cannot be helped, especially when such barbaric actions have been taken Thank you! Took me a good while to considered some sort of naval encounter that didn't involve larger ships. Thanks! And I just got in a Bricklink order with some clear studs. I was limited on time to finish the build, but now with the deadline extended to July, I may go back and retouch some parts and edit with new pictures. Any conclusions that have been arrived at concerning the uniforms are solely placed on the persons drawing the conclusions...... That being said....such rumors will not be denied Precisely what I am going for....while not Pirates per say, these men prefer the freedoms offered them by the Sea Rat faction, while still maintaining a sense of order and heirarchy. Many of them were indeed citizens of other nations, who grew tired of the laws (and tyranny) imposed by their governments. With the deadline extended, I'll probably re-shoot the scene with a few improvements in a few days. I can neither confirm nor deny that was the intention....but by all means, spread the word! -

Thanks! Pretty happy with the boat. It was kind of a proof of concept for me, will probably build some class 1 or 2 gunboats and sloops using this technique in the future. And you know how the saying goes.....Dead Men Tell No Tales -

June 620, El Oleonda With their contract to hunt down Lotii forces fulfilled, the remaining Black Fang Rangers rendezvous at their predetermined rally point, and begin the trek through the jungle back to the western shores of the island, where their transport ship is waiting to return them to New Nassau. Each Ranger carries in his pack the canine teeth of every Lotii soldier killed by their hand. While more civilized people may be appalled by such an action, the Rangers do this to provide proof of their kills, for both each other, and for any possible benefactor, in this case the Carnite empire. Unit: Black Fang Rangers Type: Rangers, specializing in guerilla and irregular warfare Uniform: Black jacket with yellow trim, green undershirt and trousers, brown wide-brimmed hat. Officers substitute black sleeves for green. Equipment: Brown/black/gray packs, latest model of flintlock muskets, hatchet or machete for cutting through brush and jungle, secondary melee weapon such as a cutlass or knife. Unit Description and History: The Rangers are the only unit of the Black Wolf Company comprised solely of native Vikendians. Its ranks are filled with skilled trackers, forestmen, and guerilla fighters among the Amarok people. Each member was hand selected by their leader, Gunnar Haraldson. Haraldson is widely regarded as the best tracker in Vikendia, and is a brilliant tactician. He still dresses in traditional Vikendian ranger garb. Haraldson's reputation commands a deep respect from his fellow rangers. All of his men are devoted to him, and follow without question. For Ragnarrson and the Black Wolf Company, the Rangers are the most trusted and valued unit in the company. With only native Amarok soldiers, they are above reproach and cannot be tempted by meddling imperialists to spy or otherwise divulge valuable information. The Rangers operate independent of the rest of the Black Wolf Company forces, often deploying ahead of the main forces, or on side missions to distract the enemy. Their guerilla warfare skills make them exceptional at disrupting enemy supply lines and convoys, along with planning ambushes and sabatoge missions. Although recently arrived in Terra Nova, the Rangers quickly acclimated to the warmer climate and jungles, as other than temperature, they are very similar to the dense forests of Vikendia. Many of the Rangers are veterans of multiple wars in Vikendia. Because of the tribal makeup of the continent, there was almost always some sort squabble occurring at a given time between the many clans. For the Amarok, the most recent conflicts were the Great Nordian War, and the Invasion of the Laikan Peninsula. In both cases, the Amarok had to defend their homeland or property from a larger invading force, and utilized many ranger and guerilla units to wreak havoc on the invading enemy, eventually cutting off the bulk of the army leaving them without support to face the main Amarok forces. Haraldson forged his reputation during these conflicts, as a fearless warrior and tactician, fighting alongside Ragnarsson against their enemies. Being so far from home, without a reasonable supply of reinforcements, Haraldson has been keenly watching the training of the new recruits, looking for any that show promise to become rangers.... ___________________________________ The whole unit. Gunnar Haraldson standard Ranger The Rangers were first seen here, although I have since made a few small changes to their equipment

[SR - FB] Black Wolf Company Warehouse
Corweena replied to Corweena's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Yeah, that's actually something I mentioned in my "Docks of New Nassau" build. I currently have very few gray tiles. At some point I'll be making a Bricklink order with a nice selection of tiles so I can create textured floors. I've currently been doing a good amount of army building, and most of the minifigure sellers don't have a great selection of other parts. Yeah, those base plates were my inspiration for the ramp. Particularly the Imperial Trading Post set, which I drooled over in the catalogs so much as a kid. -
With the success of Lock, Stock, and One Smoking Barrel in New Nassau, Ragnarrson and the Black Wolf Company have deemed the settlement suitable to expand their operations on Isla de Barro. They have further expanded the Docks, to now reach their newest property, the Black Wolf Company warehouse. The warehouse was built to be the trade hub of New Nassau. While Flintlock deals in weapons and arms, the warehouse is where individuals and pirate crews alike can go to purchase stores for voyages, or to maybe procure some imported products from Halos. Here is a little closer look at some of the details in and around the warehouse.... BWC sailors unloading their boat to restock the warehouse. Crew members of a certain notorious Pirate ship waiting outside while their comrade concludes a purchase inside A few Natives stand outside chatting, while two BWC soldiers guard the front gate. Gate open, with the warehouse workers bring in barrels Obligatory photo New Nassau's resident drunkard, Capt. Ironhook, still living his best life Wrapping up a transaction.... Gifts from the natives in honor of their trade agreement What's through the gate? A secondary exit, and some chests of booty. That's about it for this one. This is probably the biggest project I've taken on thus far, and it definitely stretched some of my brick collection with certain colors. This is also part of the reason why the white roof isn't complete all the way to the back, as I ran out of white flat plate pieces. But, it also makes viewing the interior easier. C&C welcome as always!

"The secret of the lake" Episode 4 ~ The Grotto's of the Rock
Corweena replied to Fraunces's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
The Grotto is absolutely fantastic! An amazing dual layer build. They way you got the underwater portion to appear teeming with sea life is spectacular. -
I originally built this as property for the Brethren of the Brick Seas section, but I figured it would be worth posting here as well, as I'm pretty pleased with the final result, and its my largest build I've attempted to date. I'm a sucker for the classic pirates era, and the color scheme of many of the original sets was my main inspiration for the build. I tried to find a balance in the building of including nostalgic color combinations, but with some newer techniques more realistic details. In addition, I wanted to tell a story with the minifigures of dock area teeming with life, without it being overcrowded or cluttered. Ironhook, still enjoying retirement and living his best life Wrapping up a transaction.... Gifts from the natives in honor of their trade agreement What's through the gate? A secondary exit, and some chests of booty. That's about it for this one. This is probably the biggest project I've taken on thus far, and it definitely stretched some of my brick collection with certain colors. Corweena replied to Corweena's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Thanks! I definitely put a good amount of thought into this one, over multiple iterations to finally get it right. Especially being something this large, I wanted to make sure it had enough detail so it didn't look "empty". Thank you gentlemen! I was initially worried about size for licensing, then I remembered the Sea Rat 50% discount . And being able to add all that extra detail definitely improved the overall build tenfold. -
