    Marvel Superheroes 2023 - Rumors & Discussion

Yeah, Nothing in the original comment, Legocentrico's post history however..... Also not a lot of actual facts dude. Lots of speculation though. Lot of Echo chamber speculation at that. I mean who would have thought a global pandemic and recession would stop people from going to the movies? Wild! Lots of speculation. Again. But the price really won't help sales, you are right about that. Top ten movies this year have both of Marvel's releases? If it does even average? It's still better than some of the dross released this year, Meg 2 being a solid example, I liked the first one but that less jumped the shark and more rode it into light speed....woof..
  2. Honestly? Tough. I mean it's not like you can't source an OG head. And since yellow heads are white-coded, you have a whole lot of other options as well, maybe the head colour on a redux can be different?
  3. Why would a redesign need to have a yellow head? I mean, it's been a LOOOONNGGGG time since Basil was out, Monster Fighters & Nexo have both shown the range of making mystical faces and colour ways. I'd be happier with a more "monstrous" Basil.

And? I mean it's not like theatres are busy right now my dude? Hell, even Scorsese's latest critical darling, Killers of the Flower Moon, struggled in its opening weekend. Not to mention strike action (UNIONIZE) means no promotion for the film, no convention hype. I mean Five nights at Freddy's was the biggest movie since the summer? Tells you everything you need to know about the current state of cinema. Now is the Hoopty overpriced? Yes. Grossly overpriced. But you're derailing discussion in a thinly veiled attempt to bash Marvels. Why? For internet clout? Brie Larson personally victimized you? Maybe your masculinity is set to Cotton Candy mode? But back to the actual interesting discussion Mutants in the MCU! So as noted by more than one person, the MCU has shown latent powers being activated by the Mind Stone, which easily leads into a little hand wavey but plausible idea that Thanos snapping half of the planet out of existence, activated a whole lot more mutant abilities than were in existence before the Snap, leading to Xavier and Magneto coming out of the woodwork. Kind of a reverse House of M storyline. Now who we get out of that outside of the main X-Men cast? That remains to be seen. Magic solidly exists, so Juggernaut, Magik, Nightcrawler etc fair game, Forge is the Tony Stark of Mutants and would make sense, then you get into new gen list Polaris, Armor, Husk, X-23 etc, Which given the age of Pat and Ian might be something people are considering, Not bashing Mike and Jim's performance's but the OG thespians are a bit hard to follow. Honestly I'd just like to see a more modern take on the uniforms, Wakanda does seem to share a lot of the more basic tech, so robust fabrics seem like an easy win, without sacrificing colour.
  5. You pair sound exhausting. It's what you *want*. It not being what you want isn't good criticism? Instead of apologizing for a want, but then throwing out your non-constructive criticism, instead focus on what you do like? We don't know what TLG are choosing as a design brief for CMF's, so it does make it harder. I'm glad to see a goat herd, and the return of a much missed animal. The Mushroom is a little cutesy but there are ways to change that. The Harpy is lovely, printed animal legs and all, Basil the Batlord getting a redesign is very cool. And the homage to Conan is fun and uses new molds from Dreamzzz. No reversal on boxes is lame, but that is a rollout that could take a while.
  6. You aren't wrong with some of the ideas, I mean indigenous farming isn't the same as western. As for standalone in CMF's, I think LEGO could easily bring in representatives from each nation to advise, and then they get a whole bunch of designs. "Chinese New Year sets, we have classic Viking sets and cmf figures, same for some Pacific Islander figures (classic pirates and modern cmf figures), we’ve gotten Kabuki girls (CMF Series 4), Bavarian girl/boy and so on." Hitting these one at a time; Chinese New year sets are well-researched and celebrations are fairly common even in the West. Vikings sets take some liberties, but over all are accurate to mythology, which is mostly what people know, but it is ancient history. I also feel Polynesian cultures should also be approached given the reductive and insulting way they have been represented so far. It's not like this is hidden information after all. Kabuki is an art form. The Kimono Girl CMF is culturally accurate. The depiction of a culture that had an aggressive and focused effort to erase it, exists nowhere else in the world. North America is unique in that. https://www.canada.ca/en/canadian-heritage/campaigns/national-day-truth-reconciliation.html It might be uncomfortable for them to talk about/with but the TLG are attempting strides in representation.
  7. My dude! "A Western setting where ingenious people and Old West civilians (cowboy or not) come together in harmony." So a fictional world then? Because it's that or you're just supporting revisionism. Much like "Chief Seattle’s friendship with white people" Chief Seattle isn't exactly who you should be holding up as some sort of ideal. If you want some history of why this is a myth, William Abruzzi is a solid start chrome-extension://efaidnbmnnnibpcajpcglclefindmkaj/https://www.humanecologyreview.org/pastissues/her71/71abruzzi.pdf
  8. Nah dude. As Karalora said below, it has to be viewed through the lens of time. Fictional knights are fair game as the system that supported them is long gone, no one is affected by the system in this day and age either. And as said "the treatment of black and indigenous Americans in the 1800s absolutely affects the quality of life for those demographics today." Just look at the murder of George Floyd, and residential schools having mass graves being found decades after the program stopped. And before you leap in with some romantic, disneyfied example of what could still be on the table, (we'll ignore your use of "Islanders or Indians") "because Lego is a building toy and not an accurate model." I mean, have you seen the level of detail the Marvel and Star wars sets have? They could easily depict traditional indigenous dress. And as for the "islanders" I mean come on Māori culture is pretty distinct from Marquesan which is just as distinct as those from Kama'aina culture. You can't just mash them into one blended homogenous pile. And some of us work within these cultures every day, so maybe lay down your bias when it's talked about. Respectfully "I believe that everything is political, and as such it should concern all of us." Elena Poniatowska But you hit the nail on the head talking about depiction, the expansion west by colonials was easily one of the worst era's of human history, multiple peoples enslaved, active germ warfare and cultural genocide on a staggering scale, let's not pretend it was a time of illumination and heroes.
  9. That is a Disney IP and given that it's held up as a prominent example of how not to rewrite history nearly 20 years later? Little different from a renowned European toy maker making cowboys and Indians. Also it did have a magical tree and a sentient racoon in it. Which being said, let's get some more fantasy stuff, the moon Guardian and the Orc were awesome, sticking figs let's have more of that type of design!
  10. Yeah, and? You enjoy clamoring for "cowboys and indians" While ignoring progression. Oh and Islanders? After the Bionicle lawsuit "The Lego company will seek to develop a code of conduct for cultural expressions of traditional knowledge." I wouldn't hold your breath. You can't have historical-type characters, without acknowledging the time they existed in. And that's a PR nightmare TLG don't want.
  11. So series 1,3,15 and 11 for the Islander, so 2015 at the latest....and Western as a theme is always a bit.....😬 not exactly a great time in human history, given the whole slavery, active genocide and early germ warfare of the period.
  12. Oh "Western" as a theme will never happen. I can't imagine any of the First Nations being quiet about Cultural appropriation. Same goes for the Islanders theme.

It's *literally* a Marvel Studios CMF line, not a Marvel comics CMF. It does exactly what it says on the tin.

    Marvel Superheroes 2023 - Rumors & Discussion

Stealing the format as it's not bad layout Agatha: Solid fig, and Kathrine Haan deserves a mini for easily one of the best villain arcs in the MCU. Moon Knight: Agreed, Looks perfect and the MCU costume design is great. Mr. Knight: Given he is an entirely separate personality, he isn't redundant, Moon knight was created in 1975, Mr Knight was introduced in 2014. The difference is important. WBN: If you haven't seen the short, you don't get an opinion. I loved the pulp feel and the very 'The Mummy' vibe it had going, as a one shot (so far) it was great and I'd love to see more Figs from it. She-Hulk: Love the comics, Loved the series, 4th wall breaking, DD smashing, the whole shebang. Solid mini upgrade from the comic version as well :D Baby Owl (featuring Hawkeye): Meh figure, aside from his shirt, Bows are a hard thing for Lego to do well but I do like the new bow piece. Lucky the Pizza Dog (featuring Kate Bishop): Halee stanfield killed it as Kate and my dog looks like lucky so it's a win for me. Goliath: Looks good, but context will be needed to see if it's worth it. Echo: Hell yes, Comic Echo is a great character and The show seems to be sticking to it's roots. Beast:The mug is great, shape of the hair is great. Storm: Storm with a mohawk is featured more in the comics than the show, but it's a great look to differentiate it from the Blackbird set and it's in keeping with her current look. Wolverine: Might feel a bit redundant but better printing and a more '97 look is good.

    LEGO Videogame Tie-Ins - Rumors & Discussion

Ha! Overwatch and the studio environment is WHY Lego won't work with them again. Can't be promoting a game where the studio leadership is accused, multiple times no less, of sexual assault, misogyny, bulling etc. Sony have a strong catalog, Nintendo as well, lots of first party locations and characters. Just needs to be seen how they market it.
  17. Nah man, it's not about "winning", But FPS's are always brought up, The Video Game thread has so many good suggestions outside of violent FPS's, I mean Sony could do a complete CMF with no problem.
  18. 1. Almost every gun in Apex is based on a real world weapon, Ryan Lastimosa was pretty open about the design process. 2. Apex is at best a blood sport and a direct consequence of the Frontier War. TLG is heavily anti-military/conflict for sets not tied to a huge IP like Star Wars. Also Overwatch burned the shit out of Lego so I don't see them looking at FPS's for a while. 3. Why focus on any FPS? Narrative and Retro easily give more idea's. The Sonic sets will sell well, Zelda (if it ever appears) would be a much better choice for a CMF series, And the Tallneck sold well, Sony are in for other sets and have tons of studios to pull IP's from.
  19. Except for all the guns. And the war aspect. I could see a TF2 set much like the Horizon one but yeahhhhh..... Can't see it happening bud.

You mean Doctor Helen Cho, world-renowned geneticist and the leader of the U-GIN Research Group, not to mention the inventor of the Regeneration Cradle? I mean... Not to mention probably the best hope to repair White Vison.

    Marvel Superheroes 2023 - Rumors & Discussion

The lines give additional focus to create the flow of musculature, I mean most of the MCU costumes follow that rule. Comic book suits have the luxury of not having a real person in them. Even in your example of good costume design, Deadpool, Still has a ton of lines for flow and movement, not to mention they have to mocap the eyes in. And even Reynolds gets odd fabric snags and pulls. Zombie hunter Spider-Man has quite pronounced black sections to his suit And the the 838 mr fantastic suit? oh, you mean the suit that was completely developed through CGI, because of COVID travel restricions? That is basically Deadpool's costume in blue? Oh and even the designer is critical of it, as one would expect given COVID messing with the world. "at the end of the day it's still me and MANY other peoples' opinion, you can like them if you want, we aren't trying to force you into hating them, just making points against suits like any ant-man suit after civil war." Harlan Ellison once said “You are not entitled to your opinion. You are entitled to your informed opinion. No one is entitled to be ignorant.” Ignorance in this case obviously isn't an insult, just a state of being. And therein lies the rub. Valid critique is based on sensible reasoning. Since Marvel has teams of artists & designers who have design documents, fabrication resources, and costumers means almost every layperson who has an opinion about a design choice, doesn't have enough knowledge to have an informed opinion. How well does something translate to Lego? That's harder since the Lego designers, while having access to Marvels files, have to tread a very careful line to produce a good physical product.

Adam's creators in the MCU are The Sovereign, His costume reflects the...ahem..subtlety, of the race. It also tracks with the cosmic part of the MCU having a root aesthetic in Jack Kirby's work. And,much like Vision, Adam Warlocks first encounter was with Thor, I mean you can literally see the similarity. You can have a preference for an particular aesthetic, but if you wish to be critical of a choice, you really should educate yourself on why the design choice was made.

They don't "over design"? The costumes have to work as functional props. That 'busy' look you dislike hides panels for stretch and movement, not to mention fabrics have texture and structure. with a few exceptions like Spider-Man and Black Panther, So the Hero costumes have weathering and detail in spades, because otherwise it would all look like JJ's 'Jewel' costume. If the The Marvel: Universe of Superheroes exhibit is ever near you, you should check it out, the design process is shown for more than one of the exhibits.
  24. Given the internet's love for the misadventures of aristocrat-turned-pirate Stede Bonnet and his crew aboard the Revenge trying to make a name for themselves as pirates, I had to do a liitle MOC.
