Buying Pirate LEGO - where to buy, advice, tips and questions
2maxwell replied to Mr. Smee's topic in LEGO Pirates
Consider though, how hard is it to complete the admiral? The only thing more than a dollar would be the decorated bicorne, right?- 502 replies

Brethren of the Brick Seas?
2maxwell replied to Admiral Croissant's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Ah he got me! I was even on the watch for April Fool's jokes, but I guess I let my guard down after seeing DisneyBricks. Well played Kolonialbeamter with that "rumor".- 318 replies

I can't see that being true but, if it is, count me out as well.- 318 replies

Excellent as usual. Love how the sails unfurl. You seem to also have gotten one of the alternate faced admirals. Has anyone gotten the correct one yet?

Thoughts while building The Brick Bounty
2maxwell replied to Captain Fortune's topic in LEGO Pirates
Its certainly true that the new sets focus on playability and, dare I say it, functionality over form. The big captain's cabins in particular bother me, even on the imperial flagship. They dont fit the look at all imo, and I much preferred the older style of narrowing sterns a la galleons. I really dont have that many problems with the modern ships otherwise. That being said, I understand the change and am sort of ready to deal with it. -
Wow, this is really nice. I love all the details. One thing though, I can't shake the feeling that this is like a pirate themed modern restaurant. I think it's the doors and just how nice the bar is haha.

Brethren of the Brick Seas?
2maxwell replied to Admiral Croissant's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Actually, by the late 18th century, America, Prussia, Britain, and Portugal, among others, had dedicated light infantry and rifle regiments that wore green jackets for camouflage.- 318 replies

Brethren of the Brick Seas?
2maxwell replied to Admiral Croissant's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
I dont own any of those torsos, so thanks for taking some pics! Yeah, it certainly isnt ideal, but I do like the two on the outside. Is there any chance you could take a picture of that torso with light bley legs and a shako? I've been wondering if it could be used for generic riflemen, but I cant visualize it. The thespian obviously has a very nice torso, but it seems much too intricate for your average trooper.- 318 replies

Brethren of the Brick Seas?
2maxwell replied to Admiral Croissant's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
One option is the Russian (?) torso from the Indiana Jones and the Crystal Skull line. It doesnt have the right "feel" necessarily, but many nations were experimenting with single breasted jackets in the latter half of the Napoleonic Wars. It was quite common as an undress uniform for French and American officers, as well as for American and Portuguese infantry. Privates in some regiments, such as the King's German Legion, wore a uniform almost exactly like the one above.- 318 replies

Thanks everyone. Does anyone have any suggestions/critiques?

It looks a lot like a brain bug from Starship Troopers. Well done!

Loved this. Short and sweet (though I imagine it took a long time to make it haha). I really love this set and plan to buy it once I get some disposable income.

Thank you all! Thanks! When I started with that figure, the helmets as pauldrons were pretty much the only thing (aside from the parrot) that I knew I had to incorporate, so I'm glad you like it. I look forward to seeing your parrot mech! The color scheme happened on accident at first, but once I noticed it, I decided to play it up. Oh do they not make them anymore or something? Because those used to be pretty common. Either way, I'm sure you could pick up a bunch for not much on bricklink. And thank you! The figures only took a few days but the backstories took some more time haha.

Thank you both!

Brethren of the Brick Seas?
2maxwell replied to Admiral Croissant's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Well put. I'd tried to broach the matter earlier on, but you've gotten to the core of the issue much better than I ever managed. Personally, I'm still disappointed that the only "real" factions are going to be colonizing powers and pirates.- 318 replies

Brethren of the Brick Seas?
2maxwell replied to Admiral Croissant's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Or perhaps the further one sails, the stranger they become! Are the stories real, or all the sailors just suffering from delusions? Are the delusions because of malnutrition and heatstroke? Or is there perhaps something more sinister afoot? WHoooOOOOoooo- 318 replies

Wow this is really amazing. I really like the idea of building the one side. It allows you to build something on a massive scale without it having to actually be, you know, massive. Did you actually manage to get the barrel opening to lead down to the cavern? Because I couldnt quite see it in the picture.

Brethren of the Brick Seas?
2maxwell replied to Admiral Croissant's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Interesting thought. Such an 'enchanted region' could be a limiter. After all, we are not talking about the spiritual middle ages here, the world of BoBS would be much more enlightened, imo. But beyond the sea, in the still unknown, all kinds of things could be happening. I just have a little trouble seeing a bunch of Chima based characters or whatnot regularly walking through the capital of Corrington. But it's all a matter of explaination. Now this I like. The closer you get to civilization, the less magical everything becomes.- 318 replies

Brethren of the Brick Seas?
2maxwell replied to Admiral Croissant's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
There is Tormak/Panthar, which has a black tiger head. So that would prolly work, Assuming the faction leaders/organizers havent made a rule, it might not be a bad idea to play it by ear. Fantastical elements are cool for sure, but if every other moc becomes ghost ships and skeleton crews (which I doubt will ever happen), it might be worth addressing. Until then, we (myself included) might just be blowing it out of proportion in our heads haha.- 318 replies

This. Yeah I'll admit its not the best chess set ever, but its still far from a pointless set (which is all I was saying).
-
Considering I already own 2 chess sets and don't have a lot of spare cash on hand, no. If I did? Yeah absolutely. I've always wanted a lego chess set (though I'd personally prefer a castle chess set).
-
For anyone who cant see the point of this chess set, consider that maybe the point is not for it to be an army builder but, you know, for playing chess.
