  1. Where did we get confirmation of Anakin's starfighter? Maybe it will be another Eta-2 instead of a Delta-7. I prefer the Delta-7s and just bought the one currently on the market, so I think I'm good for now.
  2. Pretty much every model and illustration shows that the cannon being shorter not hanging over the front of the vehicle, so the 9m is the length of the body. The 26 stud count is also of the main body of the set. I found *slightly* different numbers for the width and height but they're all close enough. Thanks for doing those calculations more exactly. I suspect the difference has to do with making the model actually stand up straight at a large enough size. diagrams of the tank show quite a severe overhang in the rear that probably isn't possible at a large size with the complexity (and thus density of the rear part) of modern builds.
  3. *27 cm The problem isn't the length but the width and height. The dimensions of the tank are approximately 10m x 8m x 4m. The length of the blue AAT is 26 studs and the width is 24. The width of the tanks *should be about 3-4 studs shorter, which is basically the surrounding dark blue dish if that makes it easier to visualize. For proportions, the center cab then needs to be brought back down to a 6 stud base instead of an 8 stud base and the side cannons need to be brought way in as well. I don't have the set on hand so I can't measure, but I'd estimate based on the build instructions that the set is 10-11 bricks tall at its highest point. Meanwhile, a ~2m tall battle droid is 4.5 bricks tall, meaning the tank should be about 1-2 bricks shorter than it actually is.
  4. Really happy to hear that a CIS AAT is likely. I loved the 2015 version and was actually just about to order that one just before I heard about this. I know it was a smidge too small, but frankly the 2009 version was far too large. Not that this is true of people in here but I've definitely seen some people who dogmatically stick to "larger is better", even when it's totally out of scale such as in the case of the Republic Fighter Tank sets.

THE PIRATE BAY IS GOING TO BE AN OFFICIAL LEGO SET!!!!

Oh my god, it's finally happening!!! Edit: anyone have any idea what the piece count is? I couldn't find it in the Ideas page or in the post he made here when he first added the project.
  6. Frankly, I've always preferred when pieces are reused within reason instead of creating so many *almost* redundant pieces. Leaves me with less to have to sort through.
  7. The printing on the bounty hunter just looks muddy overall. The color choices were very poor.

    Future Castle Sets?

My concern with the new shield is that it's far too intricate for it to be a print they'd do for the shield of an average soldier over the course of an entire castle line. Those shields tend to be simple and graphic with only one charge occupying the foreground. I'd be ok with some kind of one-off high quality castle set, but I'm much more worried that this is going to end up in some modern build as part of a statue, like many of the more ornate lego shields have been.
  9. I like fantasy and castle themes the most, but I don't really have any issue with how many city figures there are. Not everything is about me; I'm happy to collect the few I want and save my money. I do appreciate that Lego is moving towards more gender balance across their lines,
  10. They're not, but they do plenty of minifigs that are specific to different countries.
  11. Interesting choice for the fright knight to use a more traditional type of helmet instead of the distinct bat-winged helmets used by the Fright Knights, especially since he's using an updated version of their shield.

    [LEGO Ideas] The Pirate Bay!!

Wow, I've been out of the loop for several months now and I'm stunned to see this- not only that it exists but is already in review. I would buy this in a heartbeat, but the raised baseplate makes me very worried about its chances.

    Pirates Minifigure Head Index

For soldiers, I make a rule to avoid double sided heads. You can't block the back face with a shako.

    Bluecoat Governor torso color?

Hey everyone, I was wondering if anyone was sure what color the yellow portions of the 2015 governor's torso were. I'm hoping to use them to create some Hessian troops, and I want to give them matching legs. I'm certain it's not yellow, but I don't know if its closer to orange or bright orange, and I don't have the pieces on hand to compare them. Anyone know? Thanks.

General MOC-Discussion, WIP-Help, and Teaser Thread

Hey guys, I just ordered a few bearskin hats and I was wondering if anyone had any experience with using them with various backpacks. I never see the combo; do they not fit together?

Useful Pirate Pieces from other Themes?

That's tough. The Bounty is a far more interesting build with much more detail than the IFS. I can't stress enough how impressive most of it really is. However, the scale of the Bounty's sails really throws me off, and the IFS is a much more beautiful ship in that respect. That, combined with the playability of the IFS (both "swooshability" and ease of accessing the insides) tips the balance for the IFS for me.

Useful Pirate Pieces from other Themes?

I'm surprised it's only 15%. From first hand experience, it feels like a lot more than that. The Flagship was pretty easy to "swoosh around" and play with, but I gave up trying to do that with the Bounty pretty quickly. The ship really does have some heft. It's really a shame they didn't make the sails larger, or it would have been almost perfect.

    LEGO Nexo Knights 2018

I really hope its not insects. While I liked and owned a number of sets from the old insectoid theme, I really was not a fan of how they did spiders for Chima. I'm not a fan of bugs, and it was pretty gross to be honest. I think there will be at least some portion of kids who feel the same way, and that gives me hope that they wont choose to do that for NK. It's harder to avoid those kinds of figures when there are only two sides and a few are usually included in every set.

Useful Pirate Pieces from other Themes?

Here are some quick snaps I took. If anyone wants more specific comparison shots, I'd be happy to provide them. General impressions: the Destiny's Bounty is shorter than the Imperial Flagship both height and lengthwise. The difference in height is mostly just the sails; the decks are at about the same level. However, the Bounty's deck is wider and much easier to work with than the Flagship, and the sterncastle is higher. The inner space of the Bounty is much smaller and more cramped than the Flagship. Otherwise, I'm very impressed. The Destiny's Bounty was cheaper than the Imperial Flagship but has ~600 more pieces and it shows. The build is very impressive and absolutely packed with details.

Just got and built that set. If people are interested, I can take some pictures of it next to the Imperial Flagship.

[Thrill Ride MOC] Pirates VS Kraken Ride

Wow this is incredible! I love the entrance. Really captures the feel of a theme ride.

    Pirates vs EITC

Both the Black Pearl and the Flying Dutchman are galleons. Galleons are a much older variety of ship than the above ship of the line, and were typically smaller, carried fewer guns, and carried smaller weight guns. According to the PotC wiki, both galleons are about 160-170 ft long. I was recently on El Galeon Andalucia, which is about the same length. It was docked next to the USS Constellation, a sloop of war comparable in size to earlier American super frigates (about 10 feet longer than British frigates of the 18th century), and was much smaller in comparison. The guns and deck were all much lower. Frankly speaking, if the movie was remotely realistic and not about ghost ships, not only would Beckett's ship have done significant damage to the other two with its first salvo but, even if it had sat there and taken fire from both ships for a short amount of time, its unlikely that they would have done much damage with their ~30 guns. Galleons are fine ships, don't get me wrong, but these were weapons perfected hundreds of years apart. That's not to say they wouldn't also have a few advantages. I haven't found too many sources on the mechanics of operating both sides of guns simultaneously, but what I have read usually says that, in most ships, each gun is serviced by the crews of both the gun being fired and the gun opposite it, for a total of about 12 guys (6 per gun). I don't know exactly how essential each man is to reloading/firing, but that would seem to suggest that Beckett's men wouldn't be able to reload/fire both sides simultaneously with much ease or regularity. Also, because of how much lower the galleons are, their fighting tops (do galleons have fighting tops?) would be much closer to the opposing quarterdeck. That's how Admiral Nelson was killed in the HMS Victory's fight against the Redoubtable (a 2 deck French 74). Basically, smaller ships can and have beaten much larger ships, but it would need very different tactics than what we saw in the movie.

    LEGO Ninjago 2017 Discussion

I personally felt that the previous ninjago minifigs were too try-hard. They were trying to be cool while these are more relaxed and silly. Kai's might be a bit over the top, but I prefer these versions of the characters by a mile.

    Lego Ottoman Army

Thanks a lot! I'd certainly like to, but there are difficulties haha. Here are some ideas I'm toying around with: The Qajar Persian empire, which had a quite professional and uniformed military, would be very easy but the black fez pieces I'd need for their hats are incredibly expensive :/ The Safavids or the Mughals, but they're a bit early for the period I'm most interested in. Edo Japan, but the Japanese military didn't seem to evolve at all from the Siege of Osaka in 1614 to the 'opening of Japan' in the 1850s. I certainly could make an Edo period army composed of ashigaru and samurai, but they may seem a bit dated next to my redcoats and bluecoats. I'm sure I'll get around to this one day; I already have plenty of samurai from the old Ninja sets. The Qing empire is an obvious choice, especially in light of the amazing junk TLG is putting out for the Ninjago movie, but I'd need some help from TLG with regards to pieces haha. I have ideas for light infantry, but I have no idea how to recreate the famous banner army outfit. If you have any thoughts or suggestions for ways to do them or other armies to look at, I'd love to hear them! Regardless of what I do next, it will take a few months; I like to do extensive research before I start. In the meantime, here's an Iroquois war party I made in the past, if youre interested. Thank you! I may do that, but as you said they were very richly decorated. That can be very difficult to replicate in Lego form haha. As for the janissaries, that's certainly true for the early period (15th-17th century). However, by this point (18th century) membership had changed significantly. Because of the prestige and lifestyle being a janissary afforded (especially compared to being a peasant), it became increasingly common for families to convince recruiters to take their boys. This was quite common among Muslim families as well.

    Lego Ottoman Army

Thanks everyone! Yeah I kind of set out to see what was going on in the period outside of the major European countries, and the Ottomans seemed like a natural choice considering they were involved tangentially with a number of the European powers during the period. I hope that this can act as a bit of inspiration for people who want to model conflicts other than just Redcoats vs. Bluecoats.
