    Combining two Caribbean Clippers (WIP)

Personally I prefer the black. I think it maintains the "outline". That being said, I have to say that the black looks like dark blue in the image, and I think dark blue would look really cool.

    First pirate ship?

Are you okay with used? If so, you can find most of the best pirate ships for under that price on BrickLink. As for which one, I'd suggest the Black Seas Barracuda. I've never owned it, but it's widely considered one of the best Lego pirate ships. Skull's Eye Schooner is also quite good, but its a bit more than your budget, used. If you want something new, both the Red Beard Runner and Brickbeard's Bounty can be bought new at just under your budget. I like the Brickbeard's Bounty, but I've never been a fan of the Red Beard Runner

LEGO Ambassador Project: Design a NEW Pirate Sub-Theme

This is a great idea! Tragically, I don't the resources to MOC right now or other useful skills. Did the lego group decide to never use the old hulls anymore? I personally think bringing those back would be better to create smaller ships and keep prices/piece counts reasonable. Combined with a small port town with either Islanders or whoever else, you could make a decent large set. Take the old Imperial Flagship for example: it was ~300 pieces and cost $50. Meanwhile, most of the larger pirate, islander, or soldier/guard hideouts had between 200-400 pieces and cost between $30-60. Taken together, you'd have a 600-700 piece large set that cost about $100. Sounds reasonable to me!

    Combining two Caribbean Clippers (WIP)

I think this is really good so far, but I'm not a huge fan of the sails. The aftmost sail doesnt seem to have the right shape to be a spanker and gaff sail. I also feel like it would be better if it were flipped around to be like a proper lateen shaped mizzen course. I've never seen a skylight like that, but I dont think it would be out of the question by any means. I like it.

    REVIEW: 6285 Black Sea's Barracuda

Great review! Man, I am jealous of that collection.

    HMS Bulldog

It's definitely a bit stout, haha, but that ram is just awesome. Really have not seen many depictions of age of sail naval rams, Lego or not.

ahhh ok. Well I wont be doing that then. It's a shame they dont make the CMFs from the regular stuff.

It's cool! I do like brick built sails in general, but I'm not sure I like the pieces used on the edges of the sails.

    Revolutionary War Militia

The king george's soldier torso is accurate for british guard battalions. For americans you'll want Hobbit torsos. A few of the HP torsos work as well. One of the bandits from the Lone Ranger stagecoach set has a good torso as well. Wiley Fusebot from the new CMF line is pretty close to frontier riflemen. The admiral's torso from the 2009 line also works as an officer's torso obviously.
  14. Honestly couldnt tell the difference at first. It wouldnt bother me, but I can understand how it would bother others. I've only gotten Wiley Fusebot so far and everything is on point. Its better than most of the other CMFs i've gotten to be honest.

    LEGO Collectable Minifigure Accessories Wishlist

Honestly, there are far too many things that could be made that its hard to come up with just a few that I really think are necessary. I do think a few more instruments would be nice. I'd really like a drum that could be attached between the torso and hips. I'd also really like a shako that came with a different plate design and plume color. Why do you say that? I quite like the printed pizza tiles. It's actually one of my favorite pieces from when I was younger.

    Bluecoats ship l'Hermes

Very nice! Love the closure on the stern. One question, how are the arms on the admiral? I've considered making that swap before, but with the bad quality of the CMF arms, I've been afraid it won't turn out well.

To tumblehome or to not tumblehome...

Hornblower is a great series! Have you ever read the books? Anyway, the Hotspur is actually a sloop of war, which are usually larger than tradition sloops. Larger sloops of war, with their longer hulls, typically had 3 masts, and this became the norm after the 1750s.

To tumblehome or to not tumblehome...

From what I know, most sloops of war did have tumblehomes. Every cross section of one I've seen has featured one. However, in many of them, the tumblehome is fairly slight. Many times, you can't really tell from paintings, so clearly the tumblehomes on them weren't drastic. If you're not happy with any of the tumblehome designs you've come up with, don't beat yourself up over it; I don't think its necessary.
  19. Really like this! It reminds me a lot of the orc villages in Skyrim.

    Arriving

This is really nice! I'm assuming the figure with the black pants and white epaulettes is the translator? Any chance we could get a full shot of that figure?

    Lego Imperial Flagship Review 6271

I've been looking to get this ship to complement my 2009 Imperial Flagship. I really dig the ship, but I cant seem to find complete sets under $100. Not sure if I can spend that much right now haha. Good review though, and welcome to the boards!

    Iroquois War Party

Hey everyone, I've been interested in Indians of the Northern US and Old Northwest for a while now. After a fair bit of research, I decided to try to put together a purist Iroquois war party. Things I'm still trying to get right: How to make a ball head warclub. How to make a gustoweh. I've been using the red head wraps but they dont carry the same sense of gravitas as those worn by Thayendanegea or Teyoninhokovrawen.

    Flesh Pirate Crews..

The Hobbit torsos are great because they all come with waistcoats and jackets. One of the Lone ranger torsos from the stagecoach is good too. The collar is messed up so you cant tell that its turn down and he has an ascot. I havent used it myself yet, but the Series 4 Sailor minifigure's torso is a lot like ones used by American and Commonwealth sailors from the 19th century on, possibly earlier. The henchman from Ambush in Cairo and chief guard in Temple of Doom from the Indiana Jones theme also have good torsos.

    Spanish court life

The use of the yellow arms as sleeves is a clever way to turn the yellow torso into one suitable for fleshies. I may try the same thing to use fleshie torsos with yellow heads. Also, great moc! Edit: Consider crossposting to historical, as this certainly fits there as well.

    Iroquois War Party

The medal is from the GB olympics minifigure series. But I just ordered it from BrickLink.
