Excellent. This is an awesome homage to The Wild Wild West, an almost exact likeness to the original train! I don't recognize some of the parts in that engine though... wait a minute, are those brickarms grenades?

My thoughts exactly. I really don't have an issue with any of the new dino's, with the possible exception of celeophysis they are all just accurate enough without being too accurate to be Lego. I'd like to get a clearer look at that base, it looks right now like a must-buy for me. Actually they all do except for the plane. Someone mentioned getting a Jack Stone vibe off it, and I'm bound to say that thought occurred to me as well. Even so, this is one of the first themes that I have felt tempted to buy in its entirety. Its interesting to note that in Dino Attack the focus was mostly on the vehicles, (for good reason) whereas this time around its the dinosaurs themselves which are the main eye-catchers. Its also kinda weird that there is only one herbivore in the line-up, although I guess kids may think the carnivores are more interesting.

I think a lot of the disappointment with molded dinosaurs stems from the fact that many AFOLs tend to look at dino's as monsters, and as such expect them to be brick-built like PQ statues and ninjago dragons. I think of them as animals like the horse and cow. And since I certainly don't interchange parts for crocs and cows etc, I don't think dinosaurs should be interchangeable either. Hm, that's a good question! It looks like it might fit two. They really should advertise the "minifigure gobbling action"!

Finally! I must say, this is one theme that exceeds my expectations! The dinosaurs are magnificent, especially the triceratops and pteranodon. They are poseable like action figures while retaining that classic Lego look. Everything I could have hoped for. The vehicles are okay, the only one which really stands out to me is the triceratops capture truck. Is it just me or is that t. rex bigger than the helicopter that's supposed to carry it away? Speaking of which, red works for that rex. I didn't think it would, but it did. Man, this brings back memories of looking at Jurassic Park figures in toy catalogs back in the nineties.

Well, Dino 2010 was substantially different from Dino Attack. In Dino 2010 the focus is on capturing the mutants, rather than sending them to oblivion.

I realize that may be a downer, but I kinda prefer one piece dinos to the mix-and-match variety. Cautious optimism would seem to be the motto for all 2012 threads at the moment!

Wow, this theme sounds incredible! Amazingly detailed and colorful eh? Man, I can hardly wait for 2012! Looking at the descriptions I'm sort of surprised at TLG for including such a relatively obscure dinosaur as Celeophysis. I was sure they would just stick to the usual suspects; T. Rex, Velociraptor, Triceratops etc.

LEGO Star Wars 2012 Pictures and Rumors
Mikeosaurus replied to XimenaPaulina's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Well, I've always thought that both TLC's Y-wing and A-wing surpassed 6212 in accuracy. There's no denying its a decent model, it just leaves something to be desired and I think many people were hoping the new X-wing would be completely redesigned like the TIE. -

Hmm, I hadn't noticed all that at first glance. It does seem somewhat sleeker than previous versions, although that canopy still bothers me. We don't get a very good view of the wing laser cannons in that shot, I wonder if they've been elongated? That would certainly be a welcome improvement. -

That X-wing must be very preliminary, I can't imagine why Lego would completely overhaul the TIE fighter but do almost nothing for the X-wing. A few pieces have been changed, but that's basically 6212. I'm guessing (And hoping!) it will be changed a lot during the final stages of development... Thanks for the pics Bane! -
I'm not sure dinosaurs were even capable of smiling... But the general idea of a non-violent dinosaur theme is a good one, just rather unlikely. Like all dino-related themes before it this new one probably involves people hunting dinosaurs and vice versa. Depending on the setting of the theme, we may even get new ancient plants. I'm guessing (hoping!) that they may try for a primeval jungle setting. I'd also be interested to see if Lego would tackle molding a giant sauropod, they seem to have avoided those in previous themes. Well, except for 6719, but that's hardly a proper brachiosaurus as its the same size as all the other figures!

That prehistoric world idea sounds great. Maybe some giant dragonflies or centipedes... I do wonder what time period this theme will be set in; the present, the future or the thirties (If tied to PQ, which is admittedly unlikely).

Hello all! My name (as you have probably guessed) is Michael and I hail from North Carolina. My Lego interests are town, action themes such as Adventurers, trains and Star Wars. I'm particularly interested in TLC's molding of complex pieces such as animals. It seems the company walks a fine line between making creatures look realistic and looking like Lego... I first came across this site in 2004 and have been using it as a resource for info on new sets and just about anything Lego since! I have found EB's tremendous pictorial review archive to of great help in analyzing the finer points of Lego sets. Especially the reviews by the masters from the academy. Keep up the good work!

Post about Cartoons and Anime you like

Gargoyles was indeed awesome, how about that finale! I used to watch it whenever it was on in those bygone days... A few other favorites of mine were Monster Ranchers and Shinzo. Regular Show seems pretty good, a fact which surprises me. Cartoon Network has been steadily declining over the past decade, but it appears to have at least a few watchable shows. Any body else watch Adventure Time? -
That's actually a great point- those dinosaurs were indeed good for customizing monsters, but as far as looking like actual dinosaurs went, they fell a bit short. This is the central problem with the interchangeable parts system of that line, the pieces did many jobs, but few of them well. We don't have interchangeable universal parts for cows horses etc., so I would hope not to see them used for dinosaurs in this new line. But maybe that's just because I'm a bit of a finicky paleontologist at heart...

Actually I've only drooled over catalog images of the trains. But with the release of the Maersk train I've started thinking perhaps now is the time to actually, y'know, buy one!

A new dinosaur-based theme is the best news I've heard all week. I wonder what the dinos will look like though... I hope they're at least semi realistic, resembling actual dinosaurs rather than the mutant monstrosities from Dino Attack/2010. TLC's earlier attempts were only so-so; the dino island saurians were well molded but way too small, and the 2001 transforming dinos were just weird looking. I hope they get it right this time!

Lego Jurassic Park

Wow, that's awesome! I really like how you did the long grass scene and the main gate. The minifigs are also well done.
