    [LEGO IDEAS] Ray the Castaway

OFFICIAL LEGO IDEAS CONTEST - WINNER!!! Ray the Castaway has won the LEGO Group's "Do You Want To Go to the Seaside?" contest. Here is your chance to vote for another Pirate themed set in the LEGO Group's "Do You Want To Go to the Seaside?" contest. HURRY! Voting is from May 18th, 2021 until May 25th, 2021. ---------------------------------------------------------------- Hello guys, Some weeks ago we designed a deserted island MOC for a Lego Ideas contest. The theme was related to the coast and there was a limit of 250 bricks. We decided to create a MOC based in a deserted island with a castaway, and include a ton of details and accessories to make it fun and playable. We got the inspiration from an old screensaver that had this theme. So far this is what we came with: Visit the Submission Webpage on LEGO Ideas. Today we are pleased to say that our build has been selected as finalist of the Lego Ideas contest, which will decide the next Lego purchase gift. At the moment the contest is open for voting and, the next week, the design with more votes will officially become the next Lego purchase gift!. Here is the link of our entry if you want to take a look: Submission Webpage on LEGO Ideas. Best regards. DadiTwins

    [LEGO IDEAS] Ray the Castaway

LOL! Not a niche question at all because that is right. We played Disney Infinity for over 3 years during which we buillt a ton of worlds and levels for the community. During those years we used the nickname "Erdadi3". We never liked that name (autogenerated by Disney) so we evolved to DadiTwins that better describes us hehe. We have been Lego fans since we were 4, but it has not been until the last few years (that Lego digital tools have evolved a lot) that we decided to start creating Lego digitally. What a nice surprise to see old Disney Infinity players over here!

Hello guys, We are pleased to say that our build has been selected as finalist of the latest Lego Ideas constest, which will decide the next Lego purchase gift. Our entry is called "Ray the Castaway", and as the name indicates it is based on a deserted island. We have included a lot of elements and details to put Ray in different and funny situations in his deserted island. The next week, the entry with more votes will be officially the next Lego purchase gift, and it is up to the public to decide it with their votes. Here is the link of our entry if you want to take a look: https://ideas.lego.com/challenges/52673310-3aeb-400f-a313-11924fee54b7/application/3ff0bc1c-870a-4ebe-b583-7de5bf1e9282/ Best regards.

That is what I thought at first, but nope, it affects the 15 images you are allowed to upload!

I just noticed that now, all the pics you upload for a Lego Idea must match 3:2 format, otherwise you are forced to crop them... I had all my renders with 1920x1080 (16:9) this really hurts... Does anybody know when this changed?

I think we have to differentiate two groups of ideas here. One group are the ideas that you submit to Lego Ideas accepting an agreement in the process by which you give TLG the rights of your ideas for 3 years and, if you make any money out of it, TLG removes it from the portal. The other group are the ideas that reach 10k supporters. When you hit 10k, you receive a set of papers and contracts you have to physically sign and send back. Between those papers there is a copyright one which is very explicit about what you can do and what you cannot do from that moment with that idea (involving sue and legal issues). That is the the contract I am refering to in previous posts.

I am not saying TLG is the bad guy at all, I am just saying that they do not offer any kind of protection against this even when the idea is now owned by them. I am just saying that they should play fair and, in the case a chinese company steals and reproduces your design, they should free you from your legal contract because it cannot be stopped. It is clear that if TLG is not even able to protect their own in-house models ad designs, we cannot expect anything from Lego Ideas designs protection. So, to be fair with the designers, they should the least break the contract and let you do whatever you want with your design because others are already making money out of it.

Man, this is very surprising and strange to say the least. If you take a quick look at recent approved ideas, there are several with 7+ minifigures: https://ideas.lego.com/projects/2e98bb20-f510-405b-bdf2-ab4d385d2d48 https://ideas.lego.com/projects/f85a10b9-df51-45af-82e5-eb0c83fd0e9d https://ideas.lego.com/projects/9f4241ba-b7d4-4642-9c51-1a7c72842fc0 What is going on? There must be something else that they do not want to explain. It can be very frustrating to deal with rejected ideas submissions, as you get little to none explanation about why your project was rejected and, in some cases, just generic and poor sentences. ALL our submissions to the portal were rejected 2-3 times, with no explanations. We had to contact directly to moderators using non-Lego Ideas mechanisms to get information of what was wrong and what to change. Your minifigures message is just shocking, the only thing I can think about is that you are using non official parts in the minifigures or accessories, but if that were the case, you would get a different answer. Really weird... please, keep us updated.

Glad you could fix your issue. To be honest we were expecting more professionality from Lego. It is weird that they allow a chinesse company to clone their Ideas portal designs with total freedom, but it is even worse that they do not have any kind of conversation, agreement or compensation with the designers. If a third party company is breaking the contract they have with the designers and they cannot avoid it, the least Lego can do is to release the contract with the designers. Lego feels very powerful if they have to prosecute individual fan designers, but they are useless if they have to go after chinesse companies. Lego should start thinking on a Lego Ideas designers protection initiative, with clear rules and statements. We fan designers should feel protected at every moment, we do not deserve this kind of frustration. Thank you. Well, I think we could still be able to sell the instructions of the design without the minifigs in rebrickable for example. We cannot sell/produce a set based on an IP, but we can sell the instructions of our own design.

Interesting question... The answer is that it has even more possibilities to be created by Lego. Happened with the last 2 picks, the Earth Globe and the Starry Night. Both ideas were copied and sold by Vonado way before reaching 10k. Both of them were then selected by Lego as new products. You are right. If they continue doing it is because there is not punishement. Lego is probably not doing anything as they also have their own in-house designs cloned and being sold. What really pisses me off is that we cannot make any money from our design as it is owned by Lego, but chinese companies can. We cannot sell instructions, inventary or productize the idea using a third party company, but we have to see chinese companies making money out of our hard work while Lego does nothing. The fair play here would be that, in the case our idea is cloned, Lego releases us from our contract inquirements and let us monetize our idea like chinese companies do. I can see Lego going after us if they see our idea in rebrickable with paid instructions, but they won't move a finger if it is a chinesse company...

I think Lego Ideas is becoming more strict with the submissions. They also removed the Orient Express with over 3k supporters yesterday because of the amount of bricks. So they might be reviewing now all ideas that are becoming popular looking for issues with licensing, bricks and so.

All winners were notified days/weeks ago, so... :( Also still 3 interviews missing to publish, 31 minutos, Discworld and Sherif's safe with combination. Could that mean something? ;)

    LEGO Ideas Discussion

January has been a record breaking on projects reaching 10k, all of them incredible projects, but... I think something needs to change in the site. The social networks and media are playing a more important role around Lego day after day. A lot of new Lego content is appearing on them lately, including Lego ideas, which makes it easier for new and already existing Lego fans to access new ideas and content. I am not saying it is wrong, because it is awesome the popularity Lego is getting lately and all the new Lego fans and afols that are appearing! But I do not think Lego ideas site was sized for the amount of new fans and projects that we are seeing during the last year. First review of 2021 can be a crazy one, 36 ideas was already a hit, but this one could reach easily 50!
