Happy 55th Anniversary! Since Star Trek premiered on September 8, 1966, I’d like to celebrate with a picture from one of the shows finest. As a kid I didn't like "City on the edge of forever" that much. My love for Star Trek was about the future, not the past. But now, as a (hopfully responsible) grown-up I view things a bit differently. Besides that, the dialog with the guardian is meme-gold. To get the curves close to the original took me quite a while. Also tried to get rid of as many "steps" as possible and smooth the outline. ST: Discovery is not my favourite Trek show. But I do really like the USS Discovery. It's based on a design by Ralph McQuarrie - yes, Ralph "I did all the famous Star Wars designs" McQuarrie. I've already seen great Discovery MOCs in different techniques, like with stacked slopes or tiles . So I tried something new for the secondary hull, I haven't seen yet: the smooth cheese slope ramp Turned out, the angles matched pretty well with the original model! Just had to connect dozens of headlight bricks and make all sturdy enough, that the nacelles don't drop... Star Trek: Prelude to Axanar is an awesome piece of fan fiction. You can see and feel the love and effort, they put into this. Besides that, the starship design is stellar. So, this is my take on the USS Ares, NCC-1650. This is like a Defiant of pre-TOS era, for sure a tough little ship "The Ares class was a Federation Starfleet battle cruiser that first saw service during the Four Years War. It was the first purpose-built combat vessel constructed by the Federation since the Earth-Romulan War." They are held in the same style like the data sheet above. Partlist for bricklink is also included. *Ferengi-mode off* Anyway, I'm very pleased you like it! At the end it's just a lot of reversing stud direction and checking if it holds together others have made great similar MOCs, which inspired me; tried to make it as round an sturdy as possible. As you wish (it's a pretty mess of colours though) I always do a test assembly, to see if it works (it's always embarrassing if not). Connections are not always as tight as expected I used the old-style clip mainly for style purpose, to smoothen the area a bit. As you can see, the new ones are working as well, through the sheer amount of clutch power I guess The model is pretty sturdy, even swooshable!
