LEGO Star Wars 2021 Set Discussion - READ FIRST POST!!!

Regardless of if it was minifigure scale or not Lego isn't adding in more than 2-3 Clone Troopers, especially since it presents the opportunity to sell even more 501st BPs. -

It looks to be a straight PC-to-Switch port like Episode 1: Racer and Jedi Knight were. I highly doubt a Republic Commando set would be considered unless there is a complete remake or retelling of it because the story itself isn't canon. -
Squadrons really doesn't have anything exclusive outside a few minifigures and places, which wouldn't translate that well into sets anyway. Lego is already hesitant to release an OT X-Wing that isn't Red 5, I don't see any Squadron specific paint schemes coming out soon. Newer Battlefront is mostly the same with a few exceptions, however all three (since the Saber tank isn't listed under it... for some reason) of those sets have been only BPs. Battlefront also sold quite a bit better iirc, which poses the bigger question as to why we don't have the Mantis or a small set with Cal since FO also sold exceptionally well.

I'd argue that the exclusion of a Clone Pilot is a bigger mystery than Cody being absent, if this rumor is true. As for his exclusion from the Grievous Starfighter, I think Lego thought Grievous was enough of a set seller, though I doubt it sold well. -

I knew Captain Fordo would win the minifig poll! /s I don't see Lego pushing out a Gunship without a pilot, only reason I can see otherwise is they feel like they can't do it justice with the regular P1 helmet but don't want to make a one off mold for it. -

If its a BP, I think it'll either be an Imperial one or a Droid one. I don't think its an army builder though, more than likely an A-Wing or Snowspeeder. -

An AT-AT and Gunship UCS in one year would make up for any lackluster system scale sets, though I think its too good to be true. -

The only two sets I could see being 11,000 pieces and only 800$ would be a Death Star or mosaic. There's no way you're reaching that part to price ratio on a Lego Star Wars set unless its full of small pieces. -
I thought up of a potential/wishful summer wave for this year taking everything into account (Movies, Mando, etc). Starting off, I think BPs will return. I think the initial wave was built as an experiment wave and I don't think Lego had the necessary production to put them out in time. That being said, I don't see a Clone BP happening any time soon, especially with the 501st one released. Rebel Troopers Battlepack (15$): We haven't had a Rebel based BP in a while and the Fleet Troopers are still sort-of in production. -Minifigures: Rebel Fleet Trooper (3x), Rebel Pilot (1x) -Build could be a small remake of the 2008 BP or something completely new like a speeder Jabba's Henchmen Battlepack (15$): This is the wildcard BP slot, as in recent years we've had more unique/odd picks for BP. In addition, it could work with some of the system sets being released. -Minifigures: Gamorrean Guard (2x), Gran Guard (1x), Weequay Guard (1x) -Build could be a chibi Skiff System scale sets are a bit more difficult. I aimed for around 9, 5 for the main movies, 2 for the Mandalorian, 1 for Bad Batch, and 1 for TCW. Duel Aboard the Arquitens (20$): You would think a franchise that has a description of every background character would be bothered to give Gideon's cruiser a name, but nope. Here's our duel set that was absent from the Winter Wave. -Minifigures: Moff Gideon, Din Djarin -Build could have half the set be based inside the prison room and the other half in the hallway A-Wing (30$): Shocked this ship doesn't get as much flak as Luke's Landspeeder or Snowspeeders, because it gets just as many remakes. With a new scale for ships, an OT version is inevitable. -Minifigures: A-Wing Pilot, Mon Mothma, Mon Cala Mechanic -Build is very similar to the ROS version, maybe scaled a bit down in line with the recent X-Wing and Tie Fighter. A small cargo train could be included. Imperial Troop Transport (40$): Initially appearing in the Rebels Storm Trooper BP, I think this vehicle is overdue for a system scale set. -Minifigures: Imperial Tank Driver, Storm Trooper (2x), Cara Dune -Build is, well, ya know, the ITT. Scale could be similar to the TX-225 tank from the R1 wave. Naboo Starfighter (40$): Haven't seen it in a while, same story. Now it IS possible we could see the Royal Starship instead since it is appearing in TSS, though I doubt it considering many things outside of sets have appeared in games. -Minifigures: Anakin Skywalker (EP1), R2-D2, B1 Security Droid (2x) -Build is the N1 is the new scale, though I think they should scrap the extra side builds for a more detailed craft. B-Wing (50$): The one of the few OT ships I would be happy for a remake. I think its also inevitable since it has not had a remake in years and has been added recently to Squadrons. -Minifigures: Ten Numb, Nien Nunb, Lando -Build is only the B-Wing, scaled in the new style. I could see the wings being the main areas of improvement. First Order AT-ST (60$): Lego can now redeem themselves with this set. Jokes aside, I really can't think of any ST sets that would remake well or haven't been made outside of obscure ones like the UA-TT. -Minifigures: FO Snow Trooper, FO Walker Pilot, Resistance Trooper (2x) -Build is the FO Walker, but with a head this time. Jabba's Sail Barge (90$): Haven't seen one of these in a while so I think its likely, especially with a MBS Jabba's Palace being possible next year. -Minifigures: Jabba, Boushh Leia (I don't know the rules on the "Huttslayer" Leia now, so I'm going to avoid it), Boba Fett, Luke Skywalker, R2-D2, Max Rebo -Build is a bit smaller to the 2013 version, maybe with a few parts removed to keep the price down. AT-TE (120$): If the rumors are true, we're getting the Republic Gunship this year as our UCS. In every wave, however, a gunship has been released with an AT-TE accompanying it. I think its been long enough for a remake. -Minifigures: Captain Rex, Ahsoka Tano (S7), Darth Maul (Siege of Mandalore), 332nd Clone Trooper, Mandalorian Supercommando -Build is based off the S7 appearance of the AT-TE, which indeed looks like an AT-TE. Build could be a bit bigger than the 2013 version, maybe with an expanded interior and spring missile feature. Bad Batch Shuttle (130$): If a Bad Batch set happens, it will likely be this. Not much to say on it. -Minifigures: Crosshair, Tech, Hunter, Wrecker, Echo (5 isn't a lot but they all require new prints or molds, so I can't see there being any beyond the 5). -Build is the shuttle, of course with no nose art because it was cut from the show.

With how much content is coming out, I think LEGO wants to gear its waves to address what's relevant for Star Wars. PT doesn't really have anything relevant right now outside of TCW last year, which got 2 sets. When Bad Batch comes out soon, I think we'll see a few more PT sets based on it and the movies it relates to. No ones is denying that there aren't PT set choices left, there's a mountain of them, but the question is would they sell at the moment? -

Looking at some older Star Wars mocs and comics, I decided to make a wave based solely off the original 2003 Clone Wars show. I tried to go for more specialized sets in the wave, however there's a ton of overlap with canon ships because TCW took a lot from the older show. Battlepacks: Clone Battlepack (15$): Biased here because this would be my dream battlepack, but I think this would have appeal to anyone who likes the PT. -Minifigures: P1 Clone Troopers w/ Ponchos (3x), Arc Lieutenant -Build is one of the clone lancer speeder bikes Droid Patrol (15$): A droid battlepack based off of the first few episodes of Clone Wars, where all B1s had the sand red Geonosis colorscheme. -Minifigures: Geonosian B1 Battledroid (4x), Gunmetal Blue B2 Battledroid (2x) -Build is a scaled down Geonosian Fighter Microfighters: Azure Angel (10$): The only vehicle from the 2003 show that had a set (and 9 years after it finished), I think this model could work as a microfighter. -Minifigure: Anakin Skywalker -Build is a chibi version of the Azure Angel Fanblade Fighter (10$): Pretty obvious counter choice to the Azure Angel. -Minifigure: Asajj Ventress -Build is a chibi version of the ship Core Sets: Duel on Yavin IV (20$): Probably the best fight in the entire show and one of the best in Star Wars, I think it could be a great duel set. -Minifigures: Anakin Skywalker, Asajj Ventress -Build could be a small Yavin IV temple with a collapsing floor mechanism. Manta Droid Fighter (30$): An odd pick, but there aren't a ton of reasonably sized unique CIS vehicles here. I believe this one appeared also in TCW during the Mon Cala arc (which was inspired by the 2003 show). -Minifigures: Kit Fisto, P1 Scuba Trooper (2x) -Build is the Manta Droid Fighter, nothing really to it. The Scuba Troopers could have small built backpacks. Mace Windu's Jedi Starfighter (30$): An ETA-2, but this time purple. -Minifigures: Mace Windu, R4-M6, Saesee Tiin -Build is an ETA-2 but purple, probably closer in style to the 2020 one. Battle of Hypori (60$): The first time Grievous ever showed up, as well as our short introduction to Jedi Padawan Sha'a Gi. -Minifigures: General Grievous (new mold), Ki Adi Mundi, Shaak Ti, Sha'a Gi, Gunmetal Blue B2 Battledroid (2x) -Build is a wrecked Acclamator, with several play features to knock down walls and pipes V-19 Torrent (80$): This ship first appeared in the 2003 show and hasn't had a model since 2008, so I think its warranted a set based off its legends version. -Minifigures: P1 Clone Pilot, P2 Captain Fordo, K'Kruhk -Build is a V-19 Torrent, around the same size as the 2008 one with a different colorscheme. SPHA-T (110$): I was tempted to go with an AT-TE, but I think the SPHA-T could be just as good. -Minifigures: P1 Clone Trooper (2x), P1 Clone Commander, Durge, IG Lancer Droid -Build is the SPHA-T, which would be scaled down to around the size of the AT-TE. The main play feature could be a spring launcher on the main gun. Could include a speeder bike for the lancer droid. Arc Gunship (140$): Can't have a CW walker without a gunship. -Minifigures: Captain Fordo, Arc Lieutenant (2x), Arc Pilot, Arc Gunner, Gunmetal Blue B2 Battledroid (3x) -Build is the ARC Gunship seen during the Battle of Hypori. Functions could include dropping bombs, a rappel system, and medical bay.

Magnets were awesome back in the day. Only way I had a Scout Trooper and ANH Princess Leia were through them. I remember also picking up one of the older Jango Fett pens as a kid thinking it contained the actual figure. Suffice to say, I was a bit disappointed. I think its great that a lot of previously hard-to-get main characters like Mace Windu, Leia, and Lando have become a bit easier to obtain in recent years. -

Stop being ridiculous, we've got to have a rescaled Landspeeder before the Snowspeeder! In all seriousness, Luke is essentially the main character of Star Wars. Lego probably wants him available in any wave. Not to mention, kids will recognize him over someone like Jek Porkins. I don't think Squadrons, unfortunately, has enough power to warrant specific versions of their vehicles as well. -

I really want to believe that the subpar wave is the result of Covid, especially since the previous Star Wars waves weren't that bad. Of course, there is also the fact that Star Wars is in a slump right now, with the Mandalorian being the only relevant project (Squadrons too but that's not specific enough to make sets on). -

The least they could've done is thrown in two Storm Troopers for the shuttle. This feels more akin to G1 Bionicle's last wave than a reboot wave. -

I feel like anyone expecting more than two minifigures for the gunship is setting themselves up for disappointment. Lego isn't going to give away Clone Troopers so easily, especially on a set designed for display purposes. -

The novelizations for 1-6 are not canon anymore, which is massive shame because 3's is nearly perfect. Was there another microfighter rumored or was it only the MF and the Tauntaun/AT-AT? -
Looks like a cross between a Dark Trooper and Centurion from 40k. I love the Empire Trooper's weapon.

Surprised we got decent quality pictures so early compared to the usual 144p watermarked images of previous years. The X-Wing looks surprisingly good for 50$. I'm genuinely shocked on how it looks to be far better than the 2012 despite remaining the same price. The Tie Fighter still doesn't resonate with me, I would've rather that scaled up the wings a bit for 50$. The Falcon is another falcon, though the Hoth Han is a nice grab. The Tauntaun looks fantastic and the AT-AT is alright, still a great pack for minifigures. Resistance X-Wing looks bad even for a 4+. If Lego is looking the scale down and simplify some sets, I don't see much point in there being a 4+ personally. The Lambda looks great with the exception of the loading ramp?? underneath the cockpit. Considering its a magazine though, its probably just down for looks and closable. The X-Wing was a nice surprise given how many we get and the Lambda could turn out great. Otherwise, this wave still just feels bland to me. Really hoping there's a better distributed summer wave, especially with how well the two Clone Wars based sets sold. -
Decided to make a wave for 2015's Battlefront. Most of the game's unique stuff was limited to either weapons or star cards, so making fully fledge sets that were unique got a bit difficult. Hard to believe the game is almost 5 years old now. Battlepacks + Microfighters Bespin Cloud Car: Surprised we've never had this considering its a somewhat recognizable OT vehicle. -The build would be a further scaled down version of the Bespin UCS version, though in orange this time. Maybe one side could be rigged with stud shooters because of the 1 mini-figure limit -Minifigures: Cloud Car pilot Slave 1: I don't think a blue version of the Cloud Car would do well in the same wave as, well, the Cloud Car, so this is the next best option. -Its a micro fighter Slave 1, unfortunately not in Jango's color scheme -Minifigures: Boba Fett Sand Troopers Battlepack (15$): I don't think we've ever had a Sand Trooper battle pack, despite how many imperial BPs take place on Tatooine -Build is crashed escape pod and a buildable probe droid -Minifigures: Sand Trooper (2x), Shock Trooper, Shadow Trooper Outer-Rim Rebels Battlepack (15$): A Rebel battlepack with a bigger emphasis on species variety. -Build could be the extraction cart from the game's extraction mode, though with a small turret to give it a play feature -Minifigures: Male Rebel Soldier, Female Zabrak Soldier, Male Weequay Soldier, Female Twilek Soldier Core Sets Infiltration on Scarif (25$): A small Scarif set based on the infiltration game mode. Think similar to the scale of the Battle of Saleucami set. -Build is a small tree build, E-Web turret, and two orange crates. In one of the crates would be a security tape -Minifigures: Shore Trooper Captain, Shore Trooper, Ishi Tib Rebel Soldier, R5 droid Death Star: Power Sector (30$): Probably the most unique idea I could think of for the battle station game mode, plus it has some elements from the older Battlefront to differentiate itself from previous Lego builds. -Build is a more fleshed out generator room, with two energy pylons, a ramp, and a collapsing walkway feature -Minifigures: R2-D2, Rebel pilot, Shadow Trooper, Storm Trooper Cloud City Turning Point (50$): Unfortunately Battlefront 2015 was devoid of any unique vehicles or locales we don't get a lot of. To closest thing to vehicle we don't either have or get enough of would be the Cloud Car, which in game has a blue recolor. -Build is a blue imperial Cloud Car, a small fountain, and an indoor build with a door (Think something similar to part of the original Cloud City set) -Minifigures: Storm Trooper w/ Red Pauldron, Dengar, Bespin Wing Guard, Bespin Cybernetic Soldier Tie Defender (90$): The first real piece of Disney canon to feature Tie Defenders, I think a remake is warranted. Build could be a bit more upscaled compared to the previous Tie Defender with a more modern cockpit -Minifigures: Tie Pilot, Imperial Officer, Storm Trooper (2x) AT-AT Assault (160$): For once, an AT-AT set that's NOT featured on Hoth. -Build is a less tall but wider AT-AT. I mean, I don't really know where to improve on the 2020 model for system scale except for a bit more bulk in the legs. In addition, the build could come with a ground-level Turbolaser and Y-Wing beacon station -Minifigures: Magma Storm Trooper (2x), Death Star Trooper, Sullustan Rebel Soldier, Nien Nunb GR-75 Transport (180$): This would be a hard sell considering its a background vehicle for all of the OT movies, but its featured enough in the game to warrant it as a big Rebel set. -Build is a massive, bulky ship around the same size as the Republic Frigate from 2007. The main play feature would be a crate storage system, along with two spring missiles hidden in the frontal area. A side build would be a loading ramp and terminal area, seen in the Dune Sea Exchange map -Minifigures: Storm Trooper, Scout Trooper, Leia, C3PO, Rebel Honor Guard (2x), Rebel Pilot

It looks to me like the Tie's wings will be the same ones used on the 4+ set, obviously with some more detail.
